whats europe actually even do for the world tho? besides cause world wars every once in a while when they want to argue over who the master race is this time
I'll never forget going to a virgin records store in Berlin when I was 16. The rap and R&B section was labeled "black music" and they had a massive poster of...Eminem 😐
He is just the perfect stereotype of the arrogant American that still thinks the US is really better than other countries and everything coming from old Europe can't be good. Any European could make a video the other way round - showing some wacky US bands and comparing it to much better bands from Europe (yes, there are plenty of good pop and rock bands in Europe).
@@torstenscholz6243 Indeed, England alone gave the world The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Bowie, Queen, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and tons more. You know, the BIG BOYS.
Ich sag mal so, die Zeit von mumble rap ist auch wieder fast vorbei und Deutschland ist immer noch komplett drin. Funny video, I think I - as a european - have a few things to add to this: The singers of Siberian Meat Grinder are wearing masks, because they're leftists in russia, that had to deal with a shitton of neo nazi violence and government repression (remember, Russia is a country where journalists critical of the government regularly just get shot in some back alley), so they do have a good reason to cover their faces. SMG is basically a side project of the political rapcore band Moscow Death Brigade, and they were guests in Hoya's (Madball) podcast a couple of months back. Wolf Down broke up a couple of years ago, because Larissa (the singer) accused some of the other bandmembers of seuxally assaulting her. She now has an industrial-metal something project, which is pretty interesting from a musical perspective. Since this probably already is the most european comment ever, I'll just shut up now.
Actually Wolfdown broke up, because one of the guitarist raped three of his Ex-Girlfriends. When this came up, Larissa also said, that they were misogynist assholes. And now i stop being so german.
Larissa’s now in Venom Prison, who do have some industrial elements on their new album, but otherwise lean more towards hardcore infused death metal (without being deathcore)
As Russian, I'd like to comment on this. Nobody banned left here. War censorship affects mass media like news portals only. Many people of art and journalists do criticize actions taken by the government in their social media. MDB wearing masks because of their style or maybe excessive paranoia. If government would really want to take left down, they would start with someone bigger than underground rapcore band Moscow Death Brigade music is pretty awesome though
I try _really hard_ to spot the differences when Finn says something is "bad" versus when something sounds "good" but to me they sound almost identical.
@@silentrevolver4600 this is pretty superficial. I'm pretty sure, that the guys from fist of the north star are exactly hat they show in their vids, a french band, that plays hardcore and has a nack on japanese culture. I mean, they are definite.
It's quite apparent that Finn has terrible taste in music, but a broken clock is right twice a day. Of course he likes some good stuff but man, nine times out of ten, when he says a band is awesome I know I'm going to hate it 😂
What culture? There's a reason brits and other European actors and even regular blokes can all put on a clean American accent at will and not the other way around. 💀💀💀
I remember walking thru Baltimore with my family about 20 years ago, and as we approached a group of people listening to some sort of street comedian, I overheard him saying "how you can you tell the difference between Americans and Europeans? The Europeans smoke". Annoyingly, me, my mother, stepfather, were all smoking cigarettes.
Weirdest stuff in the harbor people get permits for. One day it’s drumming, next day it’s someone riding on a unicycle while juggling, apparently comedians too. I have only Americans ask me for cigarettes in Bmore though. That comedian didn’t take into account that most Americans can’t even find Maryland on the map.. so it’s not super often I run into any European tourists.
My mother and stepfather hold joint US/UK nationality, and I was staying with them in Alexandria, VA, where they were living at the time, so it was a day trip. Maybe it's due to not living in a large city, or not going to bars much, but I see far more people vaping than smoking cigarettes now. I had forgotten how often I lied about smoking my last cigarette.
Not totally wrong, In Italy they have ash trays in the school desks, and their cigarettes (aka coffin nails) have no filter. I had a few friends and extended relatives that are Italian.
Finn in 2021: *tries to be a force of positivity, even kind of apologizing for his black metal video* Finn in 2022 after a full year of viewer growth, and having to deal with internet assholes: “Fuck europeans” 😂
That German "psychobilly" band is part of a huge subculture here in Europe where people cosplay as "rednecks", we have a few of those types of bands here in the Netherlands but Germany absolutely takes the crown. It's always so cringy to see those kinds of people.
I know in Scandinavia and to some extent Finland they copy american greaser culture, they're usually called "raggare", like greasers but way more trashy.
I mean... It's not like us europeans haven't roasted every part of US culture and politics and whatever yall do over there for years so I think we need to suck it up, these are some well deserved roasts!
Dude! After living 9 years in the states, the only thing the US has a leg up on Europe is music and movies. We can take rightful criticism to our cringe music.
As a European I can agree that some of these are actually really wack, just like I've seen so many American bands being equally cringe at this amateur/intermediate level. But if there is a genre where Europeans have always managed to stand out worldwide is Metal. Influential bands like Meshuggah, Rammstein, Opeth, Iron Maden, Gojira, Black Sabbath, etc made it as big as many Americans. There will always be good and bad stuff everywhere at the end of the day. But yeah, I understand the humoristic side of the video.
I feel like British metal is more of its own thing and can’t be lumped in with all the other European metal. The UK has countless iconic bands that sold millions of records and have had shows in America and all around the world. It’s probably because they have an advantage being an English speaking country. The UK has cringe stuff too, but many bands sound similar to American bands.
@@Not_Sal that is also true. let's not forget that it is exactly a british band called bring me the horizon who are the ones at the top of the modern metal scene these days. but there's still a huge space for non-British Europeans who play a huge role in some metal genres, like Black Metal, Symphonic, Melodic Death, Viking, etc.
So many people don't understand that America is very culturally different across it's (roughly the same size as continental Europe) area. Especially most Americans.
lmao it's not worth the flight if you don't hit at least seven countries. It is quicker to say "I'm going to Europe" than "I'm flying into Paris with a layover in Dublin, then I'm heading up to through Belgium to Amsterdam. Then we'll migrate southwest towards Berlin, where we'll rent a car to experience the Autobahn and drive through all the weird little mountain countries between here and the Italian border." It usually starts in North Western Europe and ends in Greece. So yeah, we aren't really exaggerating when we say "going to Europe", pretty much everything but Eastern Bloc countries are on every tourists agenda.
The whole German Mexican-influenced cholo style is not far off considering the ridiculous amount of cringe-worthy, Mexican Rammstein tribute bands. It all comes around
That cringy Rammstein tributes all are over the mexican scene, I mean, every fucking bar in this country have a Rammstein tribute with bad accents and bad impression of Till Lindemann, lmao.
ROTNS actually has a close relationship with Japan in their own way. they even raised money for the crisis after the recent tsunami. they are also very heavy into japanese pop culture and anime etc. they grew up watching the french dubbed imports of popular anime tv series. over all they are not bad guys at all. pretty stand up.
Jokes aside, it is funny how two European bands like At the Gates and Meshuggah saved contemporary metal influencing watered down US trends like metal-core and djent. The US had their chance with Mastodon but guess what? They ended up not taking themselves very seriously.
Man do I love European music: Powerwolf, Alestorm, Insomnium, Amaranthe, feuerschwanz, Rammstein and so on (from the top of my head and at work.) It's okay to not like that kind of music (obviously.)
European metal, metalcore and hardcore scene is very active and absolutely on par with the American scenes, if not even way bigger and better. Yes, true, in terms of rock there are only few bands that can compete with American ones and many tend to be wacky and cringey, but it's not like US band cannot be very cringey and wacky as well.
I fucking lost it at the moment the german disclaimer popped up xD Great job as always Finn! Edit: I think the fact that a lot of the cliches that finn brings up are same stereotypes we use in europe to shit on our neighbours just underlines his credebility in this subject xD
i'm norwegian and this is hilarious, i don't understand why people get so triggered! it's just lighthearted fun, based on cultural stereotypes. we make fun of ourselves all the time 🤷🏻♀️😂
Nasty are hilarious, and I totally agree, one reason why this works is that they are fully aware that what they do is inherently ridiculous and they go all in on it (Nanowar of Steel are another example, terribly european, but so over the top...). Best example is probably the end of the "At war with love" video, the singer spinning the basketball on his finger, menacing stare to the camera, the ball drops to the floor, and he just stands there, finger raised, staring at the camera, doesn't even blink, like nothing happened... 😅 though from what I heard (primarily on this & the punkrock mba channel), it's probably a bit tougher for european bands to pull of this "tough guy" image when neither they nor their audience have any background in that. I don't think I ever met a single aggressive person at a concert. Especially the hardcore/beatdown shows. There is blood, not everyone leaves with the same amount of teeth that they come with, but everybody is happy... I got so confused when I heard you talk about people starting fights at shows on purpose, that is something I'd never ever expect to happen. EDIT: Being German, I think the most European thing to do now is to totally overdo it and make part 2 :D
As a central European living in america I absolutely love how on point this is. Especially with how much shit so many Europeans talk, they never seem to be able to take it.
A lot of great metal bands up here in Canada are heavily influenced American bands. Which, of course, makes a lot of sense. You should definitely make a video on Canada’s Metalcore/Deathcore scene and react to bands like Threat Signal, Comeback Kid, Ion Dissonance, and Despised Icon.
@@FinnMckentyPRMBA oh man you haven’t seen italian ones. Our constitution literally says “founded on work” and yet there’s no job availability for anyone under 25 lol
@@erikbritz8095 America has Manowar, though, as well as cringe bands like Velvet Cacoon and Ghostbath (who completely made shit up), not to mention the nu metal scene...
Funfact: After Larissa (singer of the last band shown here, now in Venom Prison) left band, they portrayed themselves as some kind of social justice warriors which was pretty successful for them until they turned out to be a bunch of rapists. Was a huge thing in the german hc scene.
Pop punk sucks. I'd rather listen to a Viking themed metal band than Green Day. EDIT: My husband is a European nerdy metal fan and I love him to death! At least Europeans have free healthcare.
If you wanna avoid cringe European music, two things you gonna do: 1. avoid all those America influenced music genres, 2. do not listen to eurodance by all means necessary.
This video is honestly a contender for the best video on this channel right next to the black metal video. Would love to see you do more of these, genuinely hilarious highlights.
As a Norwegian. I would love for you to do a segment on Scandi-Rock, Kvelertak, The good the bad and the zugly, The Hellacopters, Combos, Lut, Death by Unga Bunga, Blood Comand, The Dogs, Turbonegro. Just to name a few
As a mexican we love Morrissey and the cure and brit pop groups definitely as opposed to other European artits are not known here .We love american music obviously we're close and mexican music is inspired by many other. We just love music We don't care where it came from or who Invented music is for eveyone ❤❤❤
Style-wise, Europeans are 10-15 years behind us, and it takes about 10-15 years for Americans to adopt European style, and neither gets it right; it kind of evens out.
I love that you have not mentioned Austria at all. You would not believe the insane amount of cringe that this tiny country was able to bring into this world up until now and i really mean that. Besides that, the main problem with European bands, as we all just witnessed here for the past 20 minutes, they REALLY WANT TO BE AS COOL AS THEIR U.S.AMERICAN IDOLS! So very few even dare to sing in their native language. And it is somewhat okay when the singer's English is above average but man, when it is not then it is ear bleeding time. Now say that with the heaviest Austrian accent you can and you're getting close. The difference between U.S. and EU bands is so big, sports and art, when i was living in the U.S. for a year in 1990/91 i met some cool people and they would practice every single day after school, just like the athletes, over here, when we started to get serious, in my case with my 2nd band when we were 19, 20 years old, and we would rehearse 2 to 4 times a week, we got the "uhhh, you guys really mean business, hu?" comments from our friends and families..... I have been working as a live sound guy in 2 small venues in Vienna for really interesting, niche, extreme or just off label music, and let me tell you, when there is a bill of one band from the U.S. and a local band opening for them, even if they make basically the same music, just the attitude is miles apart, like the Austrian band would almost be asking if it would be okay, if they were to play one more song, you know? That would never, ever happen with a band from the USA. Having said all that, there are some incredible musicians here and all over Europe obviously, but due to the lacking support system, which for sure got better thanks to the internet over the past 2 decades, but still, it is just not the same and you have to be so lucky to get some publicity when you are not trodding along in the same old boring major label garbage cringe crap they can put out to the drunk masses and rake in the cash, small labels are usually "you have to pay for the record yourself"....and i am now getting off track and this is way too long already..... you said to not send you good European music, so i won't, but i sure would like to see you make a video with some real bands, musicians instead of this copycat garbage but thanks for the laughs, i nearly lost it at "Stinky", haha...."'ello...vee arree Stinky, frommm Toulouse and WE GOT NOTHING TO LOSE!" yeahhhhhhhh!!!!
Austria has contributed some great music to the world though - just think of Falco, and today there are some Austro-pop and rock bands that are pretty great as well, like Ja, Panik, also some good metal bands like Visions of Atlantis.
@@torstenscholz6243 I am a musician and live sound guy myself, so i am quite aware of what Austria has to offer to the world of music and there are some brilliant musicians and bands here, i also know the guys in Ja, Panik. Another awesome band is Radian for instance, myself of course.... ˘J˘ And yes, Falco and probably Georg Danzer in his formative years, Ludwig Hirsch, but those are a handful of individuals, compared to other countries, we have so much cringe and truly awful music here, a large majority just trying to be like some of their musical heroes, without any identity what so ever. Just copying what is already out there and top it of with a singer who is not fluent in the English language.... and the attitude on stage...the difference between a band from the states and from Austria, it is so vast, so immense, even going so far as the Austrian band would ask if it's okay, if they were to play one more song, i have done hundreds and hundreds of concerts, but i never once heard that from a band from the U.S. Although things have gotten better here through the internet, pre internet it was so hard to even get a good gig here, no infrastructure at all for small bands, nothing, so now that all that has changed, more and more bands get a chance to even get an audience, all this of course plays a huge part in this dilemma.
You should definitely react to some german medieval rock. Guys who do medieval-themed LARP and play some kind of cringy folk rock. You're gonna love it
if that was his goal, then he did a pretty bad job, he should go full on racist like on his video about japanese metal where he got a big backlash and had more thumbs down than thumbs up
Brother, I'm a Brazilian dude that has been living in FInland for the past 7 years, I laughed out loud at many things you pointed out there as they are extremely accurate, and specially Finland of all countries gets to be even more extreme with their Europeaness (nordic countries in general are more like that), and music wise, damn, that's something else. I was watching Euro-fucking-Vision with my wife yesterday and for sure the existence of that show as it is proves all the points you make in this video haha. And I 100% agree that if they would embrace their dorkyness and cringe worth vibes that it would make everything better already haha.
dude we are cringy in music for you as you to us. for us Americans are like you are trying to overdoing everything, oversize in food, in ideas, too much explosions in movies, too much humor, everything that is put in something doesnt seems natural but done by force. too proud of america like nothing else exixst in this world, thinking you are superior. Thats how you americans seems to us. and yes you are right in something but that is stupid mentality of this world that says only america is cool nothing is better, so as you would expect we try to put ourselves up. like music or movies if you didnt came from west noone would care about you. It is stupid nonsense but its true. Anyway will you do video about the good music from europe?
As an American, I can %100 confirm pretty much everything you just said lol. I'm just here to talk shit and I'm sure Finn is too, you Europeans are pretty cool 👍
Well, no wonder Purgen got 1.5m views. They're like one of the oldest functioning punk bands in Russia. They got a lot of respect from the scene. And a few laughs along the way. Purgen is pronounced like "poor-ghen". Purgen is also was a pretty common laxative back in the soviet days.
The joke is: After WW2 Germany was split between USA (West Germany) and Russia (East Germany). So West Germany was heavy influenced by the US. But the only german band the Americans like are Rammstein from East Germany.
I get this is a joke but I found this video overly negative for no reason. I've been watching this and waiting for you to talk about some actual good music. I mean, yeah... I laughed at some jokes but it became quite repetitive after a while, definitely not worth the running time of 34 minutes. At least in my opinion, sorry.
When I was 11 or so I used to write lyrics in English and show them to my cousin who had just spent 3 years in the US. He'd spend minutes trying to make them grammatically correct, and even then, they'd still sound trash. The thing is, European English, even when proper, sounds very wordy, EU documents tend to be much harder to read than official documents from English-speaking countries.
As an American who has been living in Poland for almost 20 years, this has completely destroyed me! I damn near pissed myself laughing! Although, I DO actually like Siberian Meat Grinder, especially seeing them live, but that's another thing. Keep it up!
I have to admit, I was a bit butthurt at first. But then you showed Die Dorks... Now I understand everything. I'm sorry we released this into the world...
I didn't realise that Americans invented hats *and* wearing them backwards. This channel is always so educational. Listening to these bands reminded me of listening to the century media comp from '98 that had loads of euro hardcore bands. It was a simpler time.
Der Pott is a german term for "der Topf" (engl.: the pot) a region in the biggest german state Nordrhein-Westfalen and includes cities like Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen or Bochum. The Pott is known for their coalmines and their workers mentality. The region got great social issues because we close all the mines. I think that's one of the reason why they try so hard to look tough like in the gangsterrap videos we grew up in the 90's.
I'm from Germany and all I have to say is: Thank you for another entertaining video. You've picked some real awful bands for this. Anyway, there are countless awful american bands and one could easily make countless videos about them. So what? There is one big misunderstanding here: European hardcore bands are not cosplaying as american bands. American hardcore is as cringy as Manowar. European hardcore bands are just parodising american bands. That's all! To my fellow Europeans: Just relax if Finn is making fun about us. We are making fun of Americans as well, aren't we? About their "We are the center of the universe" attitude, about their system of measuring lenghts and weights (no logic at all), about the way they elect their president (again no logic) and about the horse piss they call beer... But who knows? Maybe Finn is just pissed because rock is only dying in America while it's doing very well in Europe? Cheers, Finn!!!
yo about the beer.. you must have your head in the sand. the craft beer industry in america is mirroring the marijuana industry in the revolutionary varieties being created. and europe has been copying their craft brews for years now.
@@ahfkajhfk Lol, stuff your craft beer, it's in most cases awful :D There is a reason why words like Budweiser or Pilsner represent beer worldwide, they originated in the Czech Republic, the kingdom of beer, Europe for the win mate...defo beer-wise :D
