Just yesterday, Ace launched their brand new skateboard truck, the AF-1; the most tech-filled skateboard truck so far, they say. Complete with harder metal, and rethreading wheel nuts, this truck definitely isn't one to mess with.
Join us as we do a deep dive into the start of Ace under Joey Tershay, how Ace took a decent chunk of amazing Independent Truck Co team riders (like Jeff Grosso, Julien Stranger, John Cardiel, and Brian Anderson), and how the new AF-1 is making ripples in the skateboarding world.

I skated independent trucks since the early 80s. I bought a pair of the 55 AF1’s And Skated them this weekend. I took a pair of 155 independent titanium’s off and they will not go back on. The ace trucks just felt smoother. The bushings. Smooth with the vibration. I don’t know if that new aluminum process eats up the vibration, but It just feels so much better. Carving is so smooth. This is my new truck

It may be the fact they have the pivot in line with the turning axis as opposed to camming itself into your pivot cup every time you lean.

Ace is the fucking best. I was hella brand loyal to Indy for the last 20 years I’ve been skating. Got interested in trying em out after I saw their team like two years: Julien, grosso, nick boserio, Dane Brady, and Ronnie. I was sold and gave em a shot and was absolutely blown away at how much I loved them. Emailed them and told them that they were perfect, and that i ended up giving kids at my local park all the old pairs of indys I had on other set ups and replaced them with aces. I didn’t expect a response, low and behold they(shrewgy) wrote back saying it made his day and they ended up sending me a box, and that shit made my year.

@@orion7741 Not really. When you take the nut off you aren't rethreading the axle, you are just stripping the nut
@Br4nchy28
@Br4nchy28 3 года назад
@@orion7741 That's not how threads or nuts work... The nut is made of a softer metal than the axle so that it doesn't damage the axle and grips the threads tightly, If you were to try and use a nut as a rethreading tool you're just going to end up with a stripped nut. Edit: That said, loosening and tightening the nut will help a tiny bit in smoothening out the threads at the very end of your axle but you're also damaging your nut in the process and it's not nearly as effective as using an actual rethreader.

I haven't got around to the AF1's yet. I've been riding the classic Ace 22's, 33's, 44's, and 55's depending on what size decks I can get my hands on. I've been riding exclusively Ace since then. Before that I was riding pre-China MFG Indy's with Indy super soft bushings. They were great, but I wasn't able to push them as hard as I have my Ace. What I've learned along the way: Krux, "World's Best Cushions" are the best you can possibly do for Ace for bushings/pivot cups. The high pivot cup clearance lets you really let your shit hang loose without ripping them. Recently, I removed the front/top bushing and replaced it with two of the bushing washers set up like a sandwich. I'm able to push my front truck as loose as it can possibly go, and take it just to the point of wheelbite. My back truck, I keep it medium with very, very, broken in Krux bushings. People who trash Ace have no idea what they're talking about, and are holding themselves back from true progression in control and style. Buy Ace and win.

@@reza_dc2Hi Reza. I never change the stock bushings in any truck. All bushings from all brands have to go through a break in period of about 1 week give or take a day or 2. It sounds like you prefer tight trucks to loose, I could be wrong. Indy bushings have always been Medium to soft stock bushings. I always feel the customers that purchase the Indy's or any brand truck from the shop that I will crank the trucks down 2 turns for adjustment. I advise them to just ride the trucks around for about the first week to break the bushings in and then make them tighter or looser as the bushings should be broke in at that time. Hope this was helpful information as this is my experience with the Independent trucks. None of my customers have come back to change the bushings out on me yet.

been riding 159 indys for years, and got my 2nd pair of venture 6.1s recently since theyre my 159 indy size. Tried bones bushings all hardness, Ride hard. On one pair of ventures, stock on a second set of ventures, and indy conicals on my 159s. hard under baseplate, med-hard(blue) under nut conicals. Ever since the conical indy bushings came out ive been on them, offer the bones turning w.o blowing out within 1-2 months. I may try indy conical bushings on ventures. The kader bushings were wheelbite city softer than the stock 6.1 bushings. Ultimately depends on the deck/concave and quiver/setup/build. Aces are on the list but i still have to ride some 6.1 ventures on my 8.38 and shaped setups. Plus i just found out Real makes wood risers for ventures, ive been using indy risers. But the stock bushing 6.1s have 56mm wheels vs the worn 52mm conicals with the bones hards that needs risers. I dont think bones pair well with ventures. Going to try some indy med-hards. IDK im just so used to an 8.75' axle. With the 6.1 venture and 159 indy.

I need to get some AF1s to try. I've been skating them for a while. I love them. I used to only skate indies. I've been a huge fan of Ace's for a while. I'm excited to hear about the pivot cups. I've been switching them out for the riptide pivot cups. I fuck with my trucks a lot just to see if I can find something better.

I can’t wait for the follow up video after Levi skates these bad boys. For me I never liked the inverted kingpin. I am anal about tightening the kingpins and would lose count with the amount of turns. I count the threads and make them match. What I find genius is that Ace trucks got all these out to the skate shops around the same time. I’m really curious about are the cushions. Normally with Indy or ace trucks since I’m a heavier rider I have to swap them out for a harder Duro.
@ShredzShop

I usually ride harder cushions too, but rode these stock ace ones. They are soooo loose, but then when I tightened them a bit, they felt really good. Gonna have to ride them a little more to have a solid opinion on them, so far lovin them though!

Yea it's funny to see the cult like following ACE has built. Seeing dudes like Bam hyping them up a ton without a paycheck from them is always intriguing to me. I broke my trucks and want to get Ace for the first time but I am not sure what size would be the best. I saw people saying the 55 are too small for 8.5 despite it says they fit that on their website. I ride 8.5 most of the time, sometimes smaller but I might even go into bigger sizes in the future but not 100% sure. I like my trucks ever so slightly bigger than the deck so you just about can see the axle bolts. Should I get 60s?

As one of those 40-something "old school" guys who grew up riding Indy - but swapped in Deadbolt and Grind King kingpins when they hit the market - I have to say this video makes me think two things: 1) Denser = stronger = heavier. I personally prefer lighter, even if they don't last as long... like the magnesium trucks I love. 2) Inverted kingpin just should be THE standard by now. I do hate Indy's crooked marketing, but - like my old Deadbolt and Grind King kngpings - there's no kingpin hangups, even with "low" versions of trucks. So... Bottom line... This just reminds me that Grind King re-launched, and I can get my inverted kingpin fix there, with light/strength, instead.
