I just bought one these and I absolutely love it. The 5-cylinder engine is the business and the unique sound that it produces is music to my ears every time I drive it! Thanks for the informative video
You just bought a 2020 and are happy with the sound??? I bought a new 2019 RS3 (loaded, incl perf exhaust) and it sounded nothing like what I expected. Found it later that Audi changed their cars to tune exhaust flaps closed due to WLTP EU requirements. Sounds a little better now but still nothing like what you hear online. Very disappointing in RL as far as the sound. And yes, I do cycle the drive modes back through to Dynamic + Sport.
Troy Muni get some carless midpipes - US cars don’t have any difference in exhaust from 17/18 aside from the overrun/burble coding. Tune will bring those burbles back.
@@Pheil Correct. Mechanically, US cars are identical. The changes are all in the tune, so the flaps are shut. Even the emissions output is the same as the prior years, so I was surprised they tuned them shut when my car was delivered. The catless pipe will work as far as giving you a deeper sound, but the flaps are still closed and it won't preserve the entire warranty. They gave me a long list of parts that would be voided from anything I mod on the exhaust, but it's not the entire car (not a TDI flag). Audi is very strict about anything you do to the exhaust because of the emissions scandal. Mine is my DD (never mod my DD) and stock aside from some CF trim and BC wheels and tires, so I left it all alone. There's one other option that they sell in Germany, which you can buy online. It plugs into the exhaust flaps and you connect the ECU to it to fool it into thinking it's closed. Your exhaust vacuum pressure will change though and Audi will see it go out of spec when you bring it for service and they connect to it. Don't ever just unplug the flaps either btw... you'll get a hidden CEL and I've heard it cuts power.
If you have "more money than you know what to do with" you'd be driving a Koenigsegg not a little Audi TT - but hey you can say anything on the internet
Just told my wife you, Joe, is my favorite car channel because you talk about brand history and do your homework...not to mention your remarkable public speaking skills!
I saw that car at the dealership. I thought it was cool looking, but I wanted the beast. For 5 K more I bought the 2011 Audi R8 spyder V10. The thrill is like a roller coaster ride, you just want to get in line and go again.
What people don't realize is that this is the ultimate European tuner car with simple bolt-ons. A TTRS is faster than platforms such as the F8x M3/M4 that I've had extensive ownership experience with. It takes the potential of the RS3 (which can trap 125-130 in the 1/4 mile on just a simple Stage 1 E85 tune), and adds to it because of the significant weight reduction. What's even more amazing is TTRSs have achieved high 5 and low 6 second 60-130 times on the stock turbo... For reference a Mclaren 720s runs 60-130 in ~5.1 second stock. Something that is insanely fast like a F90 M5 is ~8.2 stock. Normal performance cars such as a Mustang GT 10 Speed are easily over 10 second in the 60-130.
Done with Audi. Owned 3. My 2012 TTRS been in the shop every other month I owned it and most recently in the shop for over 8 months and going. Waiting on 1 part from Germany. A fuel control module. Audi does not stock parts to repair or maintenance their cars. No car in their line up has manual anymore.
Yeah that manual transmission in the mk2s where suspect for sure and the moment you added power it increases the likelihood. However for the mk3 TT RS I’ve had mine day 1 2018 nowadays it’s a stage 3 on e85 and I’ve had not one issue thank the lord!! That DSQ500 is what makes it fast though honestly I believe that’s the same Transmission they put in the lambo Hurracan however you spell that word lol and a few other super cars share it as well. Audi makes all of it anyways lol!
The greatest thing about this engine is how easy it is to throw more power at it. A simple ecu tune with no other mods gets you up over 500hp and is night and day over stock power obviously. Then the fact with just a few Bolt ons and a stage 2 ecu flash puts you over 600hp and over 500 tq is just insane in a small capable car like this with already great handling. The amount of power on stock engine and stock turbo is really impressive. One of if not the best engines audi has ever built in these regards. And not to mention the sound from these engines are very unique and just awsome with an aftermarket
How's your evening Joe? Good review as always! Those roundabouts back to back was like whoa! That G didn't want any today. Hope that you can do more reviews like this. Keep dropping those 🔥 reviews.
One of my favorite things about my Genesis Coupe when I had one was it was a 2 seater with the look of a 4 seater. Those backseats were for no one. I loved that, perfect solitary car.
coupes all day long! or a 3 door hatchback. FC3S RX7 and Golf R owner. But i love these TT-RS's as well. I'm following a few 8J TT-RS's on car sales, considering selling the 2011 Golf R to buy one. Surely there are kits or you can modify the nose/tail to look like the gorgeous 8S that are available. Can always get the interior retrimmed and change the seats if you want. Retrofitting a custom digital dash as well if youre that way inclined.
Mark 3 TTS vs Mark 2 TTRS vs RS3 in your opinion. I'm looking to move up from my MX-5 and these three are within my price range. Can't afford a Mark 3 TTRS.
@@paulklp8262 I would recommend going with the newest of the 3. My Mk3 TT S was just fantastic - no complaints. And with a stg1 tune was around 365hp. Just sold it and my 2021 TT RS is being delivered this week 😃
That engine is a potential future legend and it sounds savagely sublime. That's a Beetle I could get behind. Biggest issue is the price point. Car should be mid $60's fully loaded at RS level. These will sit on the lot because they are $10k over priced. Joe suggestion: Have a comparison/point of view to the car that you are driving currently.
This car is a deal for the money. The engine is already a legend. They easily make 600hp with very little mods. 1000hp if you build and get wild with it. Look into Iroz Motorsports.
@@tat2erik If you have to mod it and void the warranty to make it worth it, it's over-priced. The TTRS is fast, no two ways about it, but fast is not the same as fun and there are cars that are as or more fun for the price...which is damn near $80,000 USD fully loaded. I love the TT, but that's just absurd.
Engine would be better if it was fully forged. Even if you get the drop in kit, it's still not a fully forged block - which is what really would've made this engine a beast. Personally, I think the DCT is what makes this car special.
@@RaitisRides no doubt! I'm getting one delivered this weekend so been binge watching reviews. Did not realize Audi was ending production. Going from RS7 to this so excited to try more of their lineup
I have a perfect 20 yo Mk1 that has not aged due to the quality of the build. Just got a Mk2 as I know it will be just as good. To complete the set the TTRS will be on the shopping list a few years from now.
@@RaitisRides hahah one of the funniest comments on a armrest I've heard yet!!!! Love your channel so much cant wait for your shelby to get reviewed!!!!!!!!!!
Great video man. You've done this incredible machine justice. I'm the proud owner of a 2012 TTRS and I can vouch for the pedigree and heritage behind the RS badge on the TT. The 2020 model is on my list of must have cars.
such a great motor (I have a 2019 RS3 with the same power train). Unfortunately Audi applied an ecu change in 2019 and removed some of the extra exhaust crackles. Still a fantastic engine and exhaust but toned down from 2019+ when they implemented the particulate filter in Europe and applied the ecu change to the US even though we don't have the filter... Still one of the best point to point (stop light to stop light) machines available today.
Exactly same situation as me. I was livid when I found out. You'd have to get a tune or those plugs to fool the flaps. Problem is that exhaust vacuum pressure will be different and they will know, which will kill the warranty on a long, long list of parts. Not everything, but a lot. It doesn't sound anything like this video in RL either, but it gets better after putting on some miles. You have to cycle the drive modes too btw. Great car to drive up in the North East though, especially with Alpin snow tires in winter.
Love your vids! Would like to see that in black. Really really love the attention to detail inside and out. Audi knows what they're doing . What I don't understand is they are making these great sports cars with NO STICK! Will not own a sports car without that stick. Such a disappointment.
Just bought one. Fantastic car. Sounds amazing and unique. I like in a city of 300k people and I've only seen one other one. Corvettes and Porsches are a dime a dozen. Also, the interior is fantastic and very comfortable. Best part, If I drive it like a normal car, it's smooth in comfort mode and I can get 32 MPG on the highway.
I had a 2004 tt in blue from 2005-2017/ a 2014 TT Black Edition 2017-now but bought a blue exactly like in video today 7/27/20. I'll sell my 2014 once the blue one is in my garage.
Admiral Ackbar this is depressing, all cars will be the same, cars won’t have their unique characteristics, they won’t have character at all, they will all sound like shavers, they won’t have transmissions.
They 've slightly updated it and keeping it at least for 2021. There is already configurator available. Also some countries are getting limited '40 year quattro' edition (not US). Based on aftermarket experience, this car would even better stock if they 'd finetune suspension better as things like stiffer bushings, rear anti-rollbar and hpa haldex controller makes this one much better driver's car.
tt rs is probably one of my cars to have in my dream garage. I would absolutely LOOOOVE to get a 2010 TTRS with the 6-speed manual. Kinda sad the TT line up is gonna be gone after 2020.
Baddest, For Sure! Better notify my Daughter, she may want to upgrade! 😳 Talk about an all functional front clip! No, "Zonks", there!! Binge watch? I'm trying to keep up with your videos, I've yet to see! 😩 The whole car has clean lines, and the wheel, tire, brake, combo, is off the hook! Perhaps the wing is set to optimum function capability??🤔 You need to come to Michigan and teach people how to use a, "Roundabout"! 🙄 The color may not be my preferred choice, however, another great review Joe, and Tom, too! Thanks! 🏁
@@RaitisRides She currently has a VW Beetle Turbo, w/ manual trans... Not sure of the year! My comments, coincide with your review, and I sometimes hit the enter button, and not the shift key. I'm Old... So when you see the checkered flag, I'm done, with my comments! 😉👍
@@RaitisRides No problem Joe. I use the Spanish version of my name here on RU-vid. Reginald Lamb is what it translate in English. If you was wondering I'm not Spanish. I'm a good ole down South Georgia Boy. It's just I have a fondness for the Spanish language. I worked with alot and currently working with alot of Spanish speaking people.
Joe, I wish you would’ve showed the backseats and also when you lifted the hatch to push the seats forward to make them flat so we can see the actual storage capacity since this is a contender on my wish list for a daily driver.
man that engine such a gem, the only think i kinda miss is maybe just one idea louder engine noice or maybe a bit higher revs, really impressive for a non standart engine!
love the TT, almost bought one 2 years ago, but went with a Miata. i'm afraid of the complicated exotic German components and ridiculous maintenance costs, compared to the ultra-simplicity of the Miata. i think the fun per dollar ratio is higher in the Miata, though of course it can't compete performance-wise with even a base TT. and the TT interior is so beautiful. shame it's going away.
I do not recommend the fixed suspension unless you're tracking or autocrossing all the time. The ride is way too firm and bounces up and down. The adaptive suspension helps a bit along with 19inch wheels.
Sweet car! Love the color, too. You’d have to live in an area with mostly perfect pavement with those wheels and super low profile tires. Gotta cost a lot to replace if one was damaged by a pothole.
Up to stage 2 is reliable on the motor. Long term (3+ years) you'll have DCT issues tho. Change your trans fluid more often, like mid way to the recommended service. Same for engine to be safe...it's an expensive oil change btw and a little complicated, so don't bring it to one of those franchise places. 600hp is where people start blowing motors, even those that are built with the drop in forged internals. It's a crap shoot since it's still not fully forged and has a high compression ratio that can't be lowered. Personally, I'd only go stage 1 unless you're building a dedicated 1/4 mile beast.
Audi and reliable don't belong in the same sentence. All is good while it is under warranty and not modded at all. Any little mod and you will no longer be covered under warranty. I owned a slightly slower cousin, the mkvii golf r. A fun car to be sure, but one I was glad to let go.
@@thetacticalape8852 True to a degree. When I got my RS3 I was so angry that they included the E'U's WLTP tuning changes that closed the exhaust flaps, since we don't have that regulation in the US. My friend is my Audi Service rep, so he gave me detailed info. The only way to fix my issue was via a tune, which gets my flagged (no warranty). If I change out a pipe to get exhaust note a different way (leaving tune stock), there are list of parts that this mod would deactivate from warranty coverage. It's extensive but not the entire car. Wasn't worth it for me in the end since it's my DD. However, as you say, the car runs best leaving it stock. No issues for me at all and I pound it. Only changed wheels, tires, and CF exterior trim. Audi's not as unreliable as they were 5+ years ago though. I was skeptical as well, but I've owned an S3 and now an RS3 and haven't had even a momentary blip of a problem. The RS3 is the funnest car I've ever driven. I even sold my 700rwhp+ gen6 Camaro with a manual transmission because I loved the RS3 so much more for my purposes.
Finally you review my car....sort of. I have a TTS. By the way, you just press down on the gear shift in Drive twice and everything is Dynamic including AWD.
Sad, the interior alone will be missed. To sit in one is something else. I even like the blue. T-Shirt matches car. 😉 Rear seat delete. Great visibility. Sound!
The T.T. race is an annual motorbike road race on the Isle of Man. It’s not a car race and Audi never entered. TT stands for Tourist Trophy. That car is just a work of art plus performance. I have the Mk3 TT and it’s a great machine.
I purchased a 2021 TT, and it is a fun car to drive, but don't expect to be able to use the Audi app. The TT has NO compatibility with the App. You cannot check any service of the vehicle, doors, windows, fuel levels. NOTHING.
Nice video but ultimate performance for Audi is RS with the letters ABT after. I have a A 2018 TTRS ABT with a new turbo and endless upgrades making around 600 HP with drivetrain switched to 70% back wheels 30% front. Nice video though ! Just ordered an RSQ8 ABT
Not quite full-time awd. It has the Haldex Quattro that sends power only to the front wheels until the others need it. The Quattro on some models is still the full-time version, with 40/60 split as standard. You can tell which version the vehicle has by the way the engine is mounted.
Joe, your enthusiasm is incredible. How can I not want to buy every car you review? I would like to buy a 2018-2020 Mustang GT Premium out of all the cars you have reviewed. If anyone has knowledge as to why I shouldn't, please tell me I'm wrong. P.S. I work at an Audi dealership.
Missed the ability to play Movies on the digital dash while waiting when picking someone up. And the second fold down cup holder in the center arm rest.

@@RaitisRides Wonder if my space saver spare I bought for my 2014 TT will fit my 2019 TTRS rear? Living in the west it feels good to have a working spare when take a trip? I sprayed it with clear lacquer so it has no rubber smell. Stays in my garage for local driving. I'm hopeful it will fit. Less luggage space on trips but still have plenty of room for bags.
It's the "final year" which means either (1) it doesn't sell which means you shouldn't buy it or (2) a newer and better model will replace it which means you should wait.
The origins of Audi TT It's a good question - and the official answer isn't anything like 'Twin Turbo' or some other engine-related term, so it might come as a surprise. In fact the Audi TT is named after the Isle of Man TT motorcycle race, which
Great, I'll tell my wife. The girl will fit. My sons going to be taller than me by the end of the week 😆 I'm totally going to hang onto my old pickup truck and get a sporty something for weekend get aways. Great review as always 👍
These don't have the traditional Audi Quattro system, it's a Haldex system...same as the other models with transverse mounted engines. That said...I LOVE the TT. Always have. Now with a 5 pot under the hood, it is my favorite sports car, period.
I was looking on my local Audi dealership's website and they had an S4 in the same color and it was called Turbo Blue. I think the darker blue is called Navarra.
Ray Kielsmeier Congrats on the car! Where did you purchase? I am picking up a Turbo Blue this Saturday. Has the blue interior with OLED tails & all other available options - its the only one I could find fully loaded with the interior blue.
Beautiful car buddy. Very sharp aggressive lines. The heart of the beast is strong. Revo tune the TTs MK3 gives you the same performance as the RS model mate. Obviously the sound track is different 👍
I think they only made them for 19 and 20 probably not a lot of sales do to the price of a small car I think the redesign was 18 it took a year to get the RS here and nobody bought it now the discontinued that's very disappointing truetrac Focus engineering
