Perhaps, on day, Hannah should collaborate with a brand for the sole purpose to make a lipstick as a Maybelline Gone Griege dupe (and then maybe make her Old Gum blush shade as well)
So if muted is too orange and moonwalk is too purple.... theoretically you could pull a safiya nygaard, melt them together, and make the ultimate gone greige franken-lipstick
I am pretty sure they were both gifts, so it’s not the same thing, but it *is* making me chuckle to think about mixing up a $70 dupe for a $7 bullet. A true labor of love.
True, but I can relate to you, Hannah. I had a great lipstick from a drugstore brand that cost ca. 3 EUR. It was discontinued and I was unhappy until I found my dupe from ... Chanel. 😊
This was so fun! And it made me respect how invaluable of a service the Bite Beauty Lip Labs really are. Finding the exact shade you're looking for is SO HARD, and it can be really expensive and frustrating. I hope they are able to expand to more cities (so we can all find our Gone Greige). 🌷
I have vampire pale skin and I have struggled with finding correct undertones for twenty years. Thank you, Hannah. You are the one that made it all click. The reason why foundations look like calamine lotion on me and the reason any shade of pink in a lipstick goes neon. I am so pale that I never considered the possibility that I might have olive undertones. But thanks to you, I now have foundation that matches and a whole new collection of lipsticks that I love. Please do a vid on how you pick blush for your undertones. Vampire olive toned people face special makeup challenges! Love you!❤❤❤
I am also a very light olive, and blush is definitely the category of makeup that I find the most challenging! I've basically given up finding ones that suit me, and taken to almost exclusively using eyeshadow as blush. I have a tiny Make Up For Ever magnetic palette where I keep 4 neutral, single shadows that I use as a little custom blush palette. The struggle is so real! lol Even though we're both pale olives, though, I have very different coloring than Hannah. Shades that work on her absolutely do not work on me. It's so interesting how nuanced undertones are!
I use most of my lipsticks on my cheeks 😊 , please give it a try , or go and match one of your lipsticks to a powder blush ! I'm tan & olive , I always thought I'm gloden and I've released that just before Hannah did 😬 🤭 and I don't have many BLUSHES , I only have one powder blush ( Oden's eye little jasmine which is bronzey rose , ive heard they're being discontinued )
re: blush, nothing shocked me as much as the color-mixing experiment in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6HnMCxK3pnA.html the custom shade I mixed legitimately looks greenish in the pan. I apply it to my face around the 11 minute mark in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qvay40M6DEs.html and it just looks neutral, like...the only truly neutral blush I've ever worn. I just don't think that there are "real" blushes out there that look like this. Probably the closest we can come for powder blush is eyeshadow, as Belle is using, and for cream blush, lipstick as Fuyuko suggests! Gone Greige makes a great blush :)
Can we have a part 2 of the journey to find a gone griege dupe? Of course after you comply more lipsticks reminiscent of gone griege. Love these videos that really researches artistic concepts ❤
Really reminds of a tiktok painter (unfortunately cannot recall the username) who tries to match the exact color of a random item using paint. It would be interesting to customize your closest gone griege with a lipstick palette!
I was hoping you were going to mix Moonwalk with Juvia's Place Muted! In my mind, that would be the perfect combo. Such a fun video, and now I'll be keeping my eye out for the perfect dupe!
I have a bunch of grey toned lip products which are all cooler than what you are trying to dupe: Fawn by Melt, Cold Smoke by Kaleidos, Grim by Black Moon Cosmetics It’s my favorite color family to wear. Definitely look at indie brands for grey shades
*immediately goes to look up these items* Thank you! I struggle to find lip and cheek products that are cool and muted enough to look “right” with my skin (vampire pale, cool-toned). Even products labeled “neutral” tend to look too warm with my skin. ✨
I'd be curious to see what happens if you add a little blue color adjusting balm to correct the warmth in the juvias lipstick and desaturate it a little ...? Since the formula was so close and you would need very little blue, maybe it wouldn't mess with the formula itself
Also, I saw another RU-vidr (Melissa55) use a company called ‘Three Custom Color Specialist’ that specialises in popular discontinued colours and allows you to send in a lipstick sample to recreate if it’s not in their catalogue.
I've purchased from 3C's own collection of shades, but never tried their color-matching services. I have a handful of items that I would LOVE to have recreated, if they're accurate! It would be cool to see Hannah try 3C.
NYX 1999 is closer than any that you've shown. I have both shades and have swatched them side by side. 1999 is indistinguishable from Gone Greige and in the vegan "Shout Loud Lipstick" formula.❤
Maybelline do not make all of us write you a very serious but meaningful letter demanding 760 Gone Griege! 😂 Did it change packaging on Amazon? 🤔 Thanks Hannah! 💗
Hannah: have you ever considered going to a custom lip company to dupe it for yourself? Like Bite Beauty is gone but I think they still have Lip Lab where you can get a custom lipstick
She’s done some custom colors with Finding Ferdinand, so she is definitely aware of the option, but I feel like (for the reasons she outlines at the end of the video) she probably won’t go that route!
Two suggestions: MOB beauty just came out with a Collab greige lipstick with Jessica haze that's very cool toned and has a similar formula. Ritual de fille also has a shade called lilium that is very cool toned greige but the formula is different, it's the more sheer formula in their collection. Lilium isn't always in their collection but they bring it back during their resurrection sales.
Careful! I’ve tried to buy it twice from Amazon. The first time I got an already opened tube that was expired and the second time they sent me a totally wrong color!
Not a bullet, alas, but I feel like ABH liquid matte lipstick in Sepia could be close (I came across it while searching for a Gone Greige dupe myself, but I don't own the original lipstick to compare so cannot be sure.)
The data nerd in me and the beauty junkie are both clamouring happily together thank you for this. These shades make me look like a corpse but damn do I love your overhead comprehensive lip comparisons!
I'm SO sad that OCC Cosmetics disappeared, their Lip Tar in St.Sebastian was a perfect cool greige. I've found nothing like it, but that's what came to mind when I saw Gone Greige. Maybe Black Moon Cosmetics "Gloom"? or Kaleidos "Cold Smoke"?
Great way to spend your RU-vid budget! Your are the review queen imo and, like you, I'm also filled with curiosity so I'm glad you are willing to do this type of research video. I'm certain there are many of us that have being glacing at these products debating if the swatches are accurate so you're really doing us all a service 😁 Now I just need someone to review all the supposed muted/grey red eyeshadows because I've been burned so many times by online photos! (Simular gray undertone that means everything looks so bright on me)
Oh, you just made me very curious 😀. Do you have some examples of muted/grey red eyeshadows? Or those that appear to be this way online? Muted colors or eyeshadows with a good proportion of grey in them are harder to find, especially the reds.
@@stefn9980 desaturated is a better word. And sadly I don't! The closest I have to a de-saturated red is memory leak by crow and pebble (I love their eye primer too) I tend to reach mostly for is red giant in the club nebula palette which is more a plum red but has some desaturation and it's beautiful. I saw Angelina Nykvist use a Juvia's place palette that I'd been eying but her skin tone is so different to mine that red will probably be very bright on me. Sorry I wasn't more helpful!
Playing with makeup should be fun, and it shouldn’t lead to over spending. True, makeup cost money. I remember staring at a $4.99 drugstore eyeshadow not being able to pay for it. Now I own all Pat McGrath mothership pallets and buying them did not stress me out financially at all. But the bottom line is, makeup should be fun, it should be constantly seeking whatever is working for you, and your life style, and your needs, and make you feel good. It’s such a tricky balance, but I appreciate so, so, so much that you put so much effort into trying to find this balance, instead of slapping a popular title “trying new make up at Sephora”, “huge Ulta haul”. You create content that attract people who truly echo with you, and these subscribers will sure stick with you way longer than quick fashion cosmetic RU-vidr’s subscribers.
I shuttered at the "looking at a $4.99 eyeshadow and not being able to afford it." I remember those days when i wanted to buy a $1.99 Wet n Wild Eyeliner, but just couldn't bring myself because it wasn't an absolute need. Those days are hauntingly nostalgic for some odd reason.
Im curious… have you tried Mac’s lipstick in Stone? Perhaps it’s already passed your mind. I use the lipliner all the time, and my colouring is exactly like yours. I used to own the lipstick but don’t remember anymore just how close it might be to gone griege. Maybe you can swatch it at a mac counter side by side! Side note I’m just as desperate to find a dupe, and am equally as obsessive when trying to find the perfect colour in virtually any product. Nude / neutral lipsticks enliven a special kind of torment, deep in my soul😅
I think there are companies that will replicate your 'Lost' lipstick as a bespoke order, if you can send them a little of the original. Maybe that might be an option?
If you're ever interested in a true neutral grey lipgloss, then check out the Essence extreme care hydrating glossy balm in "Milky Cocoa." The formula isn't sticky and the color can mute any color its put over. It's a lovely and clever product.
I suppose one has to let go of a favourite piece of makeup. As you say, Hannah , there's a constant turn over of makeup with endless colours and tones according to the zeitgeist of fashion and to spend a lot of time and money to find the perfect dupe doesn't necessarily make sense. Embrace something new to replace your favourite piece.
I kind of want a gone greige in my makeup vanity to try that mood now. Got a lot of grungy colours from unearthly cosmetics and I think it will do even if they're not a bullet. Would love to see you post lip swatches of your homemade mix to see how close it went.
You look ridiculously good in gone greige 😍😍😍 i think maybelline discontinued a lot of their "less wearable" shades from multiple of their lip lines. I love their liquid matte, but some of the "weird" shades I can't find anymore
I'm much more brown in skin tone & I also have an olive undertone, I've always looked at that color on their website, but all the swatches were much lighter & ashy , and the models are much more darker than me 😬 even with their white model it is LIGHT ! Although it reminded me of Colourpop 'ca love' velvet blur lipstick that I love the color more than the drying formula !! Peripera day taupe also does that to my eye , both of them are not on the temptalia website to compare 😑 😞Is anyone can confirm a swatch comparison to me ?
Hmmm… There MIGHT be a Gone Greige dupe in Pat’s MatteTrance formula but I will have to go through my collection to double check. But the two shades that immediately come to mind are Venus in Furs and 1995.
This was a fun video. Enjoyed the quality editing too - the way the name labels moved to keep up with your arm position and keeping the Maybelline lip swatch images *on the same side as the bullet colors* really did it for me. So satisfying. Thank you
As another pale olive, the Nyx Moonwalk lip liner is my favorite "contour" lip liner. Because it is so neutral relative to my skin, it makes colors that would otherwise be too much for me look more at home on my skin, particularly for warm-toned lipsticks. It can also act as a "grunge adjuster" shade when layered underneath. Nyx Nude Truffle is a bit warmer and performs the same function very well for cool-toned lipsticks.
Hannah, if nothing else, you found a bunch of new-to-you lipsticks that look absolutely gorgeous on you. Each time you showed the lip swatch I thought “oooooo that looks so pretty on her!” Even if you didn’t find dupe that satisfies you
I have loved the safiya collab with colourpop lipstick in Mrs Norris which is a slightly purple grey toned greige. As mine is very old, I've been desperately seeing a dupe for it. I've just bought a lipstick from Kiko ... no 332 in their velvet passion matte line, which is a close colour but still not the exact grungy tone of Mrs Norris.
Muted with a dot of concealer would probably make a similar color. I used to mix my one brown lipstick with a tiny bit of concealer to alter the hue and coolness day to day. Really fun trick, and I am sure it would tone down any lipstick even besides browns.
The Mented Cosmetics shade looked very unique to me, so I clicked through to see their other choices, what a nuanced group of nudes! I have an olive undertone but more that classically understood olive NC-30 light tan kind of shade. I resonate with you a lot in that a lot of so called nudes are just very pink that end up just going to an orange place on the lips. Cool to see Mented has much more variations on Brown
HANNAH, Jessica Haze has a collaboration lipstick with MOB Beauty and it may be the shade you’re looking for! M102. I just ordered it and I’m hoping it’s a wearable greige
You might want to check out Three Custom Color Specialists in New York who copies lipsticks if you send them a small sample. They are fantastic!! They have a full range of colors that they made for others you can order.
Hannah, this might bit of a difficult video suggestion, but do you think you could do a reflection on having been there during the makeup boom of 2016 and forward, and now having drawers full of expired makeup we don’t want to let go of, and having to mourn the deterioration of our collections? I know you don’t struggle with this, you are good at decluttering, and you can easily get new makeup, but that’s not the case for most of us who aren’t influencers. Many times we can’t afford replacements, so we cling for dear life to the relics of the past. Can you empathize?
Hi Hannah, I understand you'll survive without this favorite lipstick but I'm in France and can still get Maybelline Gone Greige here and I would be really happy to send you 1 or even 2, as gifts. Just say the word 😉
UD vice Bun bun was a match. But it's gone also. Second best Divine flesh by Necormancy cosmetica. Buff in the old ABH matte bullet formula is similar yet not as close. Also try I'm daddy, Jeffree star
I love Gone Greige. I have a couple of them. I think it is similar to Bite Beauty’s Thistle. Years ago, I swore they were dupes. I have not compared them for a long time. I just saw that Bite Beauty is no longer…? I have not been keeping up with make up for the past year or so. 😘🌞
Nyx Suede lipstick in shade Butter I think is similar. I haven't swatched them side by side but they are both ones I reach for for the similar vibe. I'll swatch them side by side a bit later (not at 2 a.m. ) lol you may give that a try.
Your overhead-filmed content style has grown by leaps and bounds, and they are some of my favorites videos from you. The B-roll/lip swatch footage was extremely helpful here👏👏 (side note I recently ordered a nyx lipstick that, according to online imagery, was an earthy, browny, muted nude and it turned out to be a straight up bubblegum pink. Super deceiving. Makes me resolve to never buy a lipstick online again🤷♀️)
Brava, Hannah, brava!👏🏼 That was one of the most enjoyable videos of yours I’ve ever watched - and I’ve loved ALL of your videos. The in depth examination of the colours is something I find endlessly fascinating 😊. Love from Brisbane, Chaq 🧡
I wanted to say it's the NYX one that's the closest, but you're right. It's because I have deep skin and it has the same purpose for me like the Maybelline has for you.
What you just did, was a little my journey with lip liners. I was searching lfor a neutral deep brown. Over the years I bought a few affordable ones because I didn't want to pay 18€ for MAC Chestnut. But deep brown ones are always either cool toned or reddish. When it was on sale, I took the plunge. It's perfect and versatile and goes with almost every lipstick I have. When I used up the others, I won't buy a different one.
I've just started the video so this may already be said (but I needed to say it before I forgot): Korean brands often have these desaturated tours of shades; usually with names having ash(y), dusty etc in them ❤️
This quest to find a Greige dupe was so therapeutic to watch. It's such an enjoyable challenge, comparing online swatches to the bullet and then your own swatch, wondering how close it'll be and being bemused by the contrast. Loved hearing your musings on the differences in shades, I'll definitely come back to this video when I need to relax. Truly a joy to watch, cheers!
I think a fun video especially for someone with a curated collection is trying one of those businesses where they make you a custom lipstick where you can send a discontinued item
So impressed with your ability to see UNDER the color. I am working on my undertone-vision, but it's work. I have a neutral undertone that skews warm if anything, but tbh, I like the way cooler colors look on me. It's all so counter-intuitive. Anyway, cheers on your WIN with the mix! Those colors are sooooo 90s!
I feel like Lavish from PMG (luxtrance formula) have something similar, but a bit more on the purple side. But you know, it's this kind of colour, when i wear cool toned eye makeup, it looks warm, and when i do the opposite, it looks cool, mauver. Fascinating colour and i LOVE the formula, it's really sad that it's also discontinued, as your lovely one. I feel your struggle 😔
In some ways, I feel like A Royal Scandal with a teeny bit of Moonwalk might have been a closer match. I may be completely wrong, but I was so curious about that at the end! Loved this concept, especially because you weren’t trying to dupe Pillow Talk or Black Cherry or something-Gone Greige is so much more YOU and way more interesting!
It's a beautiful shade. I wonder if underground by gerard cosmetics is any closer as it's a cool grey with a touch of pink. thanks for your video, it's so easy to find some colors and others are just so unique that does take us to a rabbit hole. :)
Have you tried mixing A Royal Scandal and Mented #5 together on your lips? It clearly wouldn’t be a dupe in terms of price but perhaps, for when Hone Griege is a distant memory it could give you the vibes.
Perhaps Bite Beauty Lip Lab might be an option to make a custom colour. If you can't go to a location in person, you can book a virtual appointment online. Also, lippy related, Amanda Z tried a lipgloss recently that reminded me of you. In her "New Affordable Makeup of 2023" video she tried the Essence Extreme Care Hydrating Glossy Lip Balm in Milky Cocoa that looks like "Old Gum". Have you tried it?
Have you looked into melt? I think I have the color tease (which I just tried to find, but failed miserably, so I went back to bed to finish the video, because Sunday). It's a lovely grungy brown, you inspired me to wear it today! But melt in general has interesting lipstick colors 😊
I would have loved to see Velvet Sorcery lipstick from Lisa Eldridge swatched with this group. It has that 90’s neutral brown with a hint of cool pink in it. It’s my favorite lipstick currently and while I don’t think it’s an exact dupe I would love to see it compared to these swatches.
@@ElleEmm It totally lives up to my expectations, it is a truly versatile color that goes with any eye look while also not being a boring commonplace nude shade.
I was oh so hopeful for Sorcery to be my everyday but bold lip, but unfortunately it goes super, super red on me. It’s still beautiful, just not what I was hoping. I’m still waiting for a LE shade that is more of that lavender-leaning brown, but I’m not sure that’s really her aesthetic.
Love the Rituel De Fille Prey color- but I already have a Beauty Pie lip product that also looks like that- and it’s already in my stash! Yay!!!! Great job! Love this video!
I live in EU, Greece, and gone greige is still available the number is 893 and you influenced me to buy it so I just did. I know that it wasn't the point but still I had to try it ☺
I’m sure I’m not the first to suggest this. It it’s 1am and I’m too out of it to read through all the comments you have here, however, if you want to dull the shine of your mixed dupe, after applying the lipstick, place a face tissue over your lips and dust a translucent powder over the top. This really helps with longevity as well!
Necromancy Cosmetica makes a matte lipstick called Divine Flesh that I really like and i always think of it when you talk about Gone Greige. I think it might be more orange, but it's still a rather cool dusty brown. They have a few others that might be close too.
Nyx has other Lipstick that is more greyish/greenish, I think, in the bullet Suede Lipsticks and in the lingerie original line. Also L'Oréal had a collab with Balmain and I think that one of the colours, or maybe even both, are what you are looking for
Hannah! I love all of your videos. When I saw the title of this one, I couldn’t believe it! I felt like finding the perfect grey toned- leaning lavender lipstick was my personal makeup mission. Haha. I’d really suggest Moody from a makeup line called Silk Naturals. Beautiful, grey- lavender earthy color. Obsession from the same line is closer in depth to gone greysh :) and I use Prey all the time. Also, NYX violet smoke lip liner is a super light, mostly lavender (touch of grey) color. I love ‘em all!
What a labor of love! I just so that Kaleidos Makeup lunched a collection called Sound of Winter, and it includes a shade (Echo Valley) that really looks like of GG by Maybelline by the swatch. Ps. GG reminds me of Nothing Hill Nude by Rimmel (also discontinued). It was the nudish creamy everydaylook sister of your punk fav
