I never knew people would be worried for them to be on the ground. Ever since I moved Delta to her full sized enclosure, I have given her the option of food on the floor and some on the ledge. I did cheer when I saw she climbed to the highest point and was chilling there on the bamboo stick. She sleeps in different places and usually changes after a few days.
Thank you for this video. I just got a crestie and she decided to dig under the moss layer. I'm still in that new parent mode where I'm paying super attention to everything. This really helped.
@@fallencyano9015 She's doing well! I've added some curtains to the sides of her tank to reduce her feeling of being exposed and gave her more stuff to climb on and hide in. She mainly goes under the moss now to hunt for stubborn crickets. Thanks for asking!
as a first time pet owner with a crestie, thank you so much! my baby lobster has been hanging out of the ground and not climbing a bunch so i was worried, so thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I’ve been worried for her a lot in general, and she had heating pads that are under her enclosure and attached to thermostats, so the bottom of her enclosure/ the substrate is usually pretty warm and it gets colder in my room at night. So i was soooo confused when i found her burrowing a bit and like “girl what are you doing” but you have eased my worries 😊. sorry for the word salad
I have some geckos that do the same thing lol. They will randomly sleep in the soil and be digging around, checking things out. I always get surprised when people are freaking about asking if their gecko is okay. Because like you said, they can just be getting more humidity, checking things out, cooling off, or finding somewhere next to sleep. It good that people care about them enough to ask what’s going on with their animals. But I feel like a lot of newer keepers are told that crested geckos should only be up high and I’ve found and it’s not the case as I see all of my guys switch all the time from their ledges/branches to walking around and doing stuff on the ground lol
My 5 year old male has been ONLY burying his nostrils / snout in his bioactive moss/dirt -- like every day all day! The rest of his body is stuck upside down on the glass... I live in MN so it's cold and super dry this time of year. I have automated ceramic heat (keep the temps from 68-70 at night and 70-75 during the day). But to get those temps it dries things out even more... I added a little pond with a waterfall plus an automatic mister that runs every 2 hours for 5 minutes (those things only get the humidity around 30% much of the day). I HEAVILY spray morning and night so there are windows of higher humidity 80% then dropping. I can't tell if he's putting his face in the ground to get more humidity, keep from having to breathe in the mist when it goes on... or just because he's weird and it's for fun - maybe looking for bugs!? Ugh. Any ideas? I'm debating turning the humidifier off to see what he does but it's SO dry here. I read that they really like spikes then drops, but without the mister I think the humidity would drop to the teens. I'm open to suggestions from anyone. I enjoyed this video!
Bourbon is looking awesome! My little geck is usually only on the ground when it's feeding time, probably checking to see if there are bugs involved :P
Excellent Video I feed my geckos on the ground as well they also just love exploring and hunt the cleanup crew and maybe lay eggs in the substrate all normal stuff
Hey there man, so glad to hear that my gecko is alright, he keeps sleeping in the substrate sometimes and sometimes in the middle of the enclosure, I keep my crestie about 26c and at night time it is slightly cooler around 22-23 is that in the ideal range for geckos? I always stress too much bare in mind the 26c reading is the little temperature gauge is on the top of the enclosure so it’s reading temps from right under my light souce so it’s probaly around 24-25 but even at that are these still acceptable temperatures? Thanks
my crested ive had 5 and ive never ever seen my gecko burrow to the point his heads sticking out only and this has happened twice. took him i believe and not a her but who knows.. anyways i took him out and was cold. i put the purple heat light on just for about 20 minutes to have the temp rise because it was at 69 and he was under it. hoping he was jsut cold. but ya!!!!!!! and very tiny and i dont have my other males anymore if it was a female because i dont think they generate there own eggs without males. if they do i would love info
I have a heat lamp because my room is cold. His temperature in the tank is 71-73 degrees which my room itself is 68-69 degrees. It’s connected to a thermostat and if the tank gets above 73 it turns off and if it get below 73 it turns on. Is that okay?
Mine still doesn't really like to be held. I know you say repetition, but he doesn't like going out of his cage. Doesn't mind me petting him, just not picking up.
