What can I do if my pressure treated deck was painted/stained without letting it cure? It repels most of the paint/stain...and I dont know how to fix this after its already done.
It was a huge undertaking, but after building my 18' x 22' deck I realized my error and removed a few floorboards at a time to stain all sides then screwed them back on. Where the floorboard rest on the joists I placed a sheet, dry/ ice tar paper. Yes, a little overboard but living in the Midwest I've seen too many decks rot out only a few years later. Lightly rough up and re-apply stain over high-traffic areas every year and else every two years. 18years of harsh winters and Hot Days, I've only had to replace a couple boards that warped.
Yes, I applied my paint in direct sunlight. I will use you advice and start early morning and complete in the late evening. This time it around I’ll do better! Thank you.
Nice video. Just one point, 'Wolmanied' is a brand name. It's one of many pressure treated lumber companies. Not all pressure treated lumber is made by them.
This is extremely useful, I wish I had watched this when we got our deck installed. We did "season" our deck, but not just for a few months... we seasoned it for a whole year and just applied sealer this year. I learned a lot and appreciate you sharing your insights!
I had my painter put on one of those thick deck products several years ago. I DO NOT recommend it. It has failed miserably, and now I have to figure out how to get it all off.
So we let our new deck season for 4 full years---We decided to solid stain it. Hubby rented a power washer and deck cleaner, we waited a few days for it to dry. We order over 500 worth of Woodsman brand solid stain from a sale at our local hardware store of buy one get one. Our deck began peeling a month after application..We are heart broken, complained to the store and also complained to the manufacturer but nothing. Please help on what went wrong as it needs to be re-done and we dont want the same thing to happen. It was not humid either.😭 thank you
