The only reason you would do it this way is because of the stainless steel nails. You can’t floor sand them or hit them down enough to floor sand. Moral of the story only use screws that can be countersunk so you can floor sand down the track if needed.

There's a sander you can hire that uses a brush type sander which is safe for nail/ screw heads poking above the timber

I didn't install the deck, I bought the house with the deck. And a big gazebo on top of the deck. Deck was 2 years old then. I thought many times about ripping it out, but I can't afford to either replace the wood with composite or totally remove the deck and put down stone hardscaping. Just replacing the wood with composite is going to cost over $5000 in just materials, I don't know how much the labor cost is going to be, and I'm also going to have the labor for dismantling and reassembling the gazebo too. It's a mess and I'm basically paying for it yearly with my labor by cleaning and sealing the entire deck. I hate it

Thanks for the video! At least in the US, to do all that yourself is not that expensive, at least in terms of equipment; the most expensive things will be the pressure washer and sander. To rent a pressure washer will run you about $70 for the day and for a sander about $90; plus you have to get sanding pads and other things for the main equipment but still not too bad. What really gets you is the time! You have to make sure the deck hasn't been rained on or wet for a few days and is completely dry before you start, during the process and for a few days to a week after you finish. It's also a good idea to tarp and tape off as much as you can that is not what you're working on. To do all that, and especially sand, etc will take you awhile, but in terms of cost, it's not that bad. Of course, I mean for materials and equipment it's not that bad. In terms of what is your time worth, that's up to you. It's kind of like painting. The actual painting part isn't too bad. The real time suck is clearing out the room, taping things, removing things, spackling holes, sanding holes, etc. Once you do all that, the painting part is actually pretty fast...

@@CrazyDog1907 Don't buy trex like that other guy said, trex is facing class action lawsuit for mold issues. Staining a deck with clear penetrating oil once a year is a way better option since you don't have to deal with peeling paint ever again.
