Why is no one allowed in this strange old missile silo in Colorado?

It's not easy to find. You have to drive down the road and past some fields until you see the "No Trespassing" sign. Then, you have to hike along some strange-looking concrete things until you get to the graffiti-covered opening.
in the early 1960s, when the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Cold War were at their height, missile silos in this country were on alert. There just happens to be one in Arapahoe County, Colorado that no one is allowed into.
There are so many rumors swirling around about what's under Colorado. Many residents have heard about a secret military city under Denver International Airport, even a government project on aliens down there.

It’s not the owner’s fault and in my opinion, the owner shouldn’t have to seal it up. The no trespassing signs should be enough. The boy got hurt because he made a poor choice and broke the law. The boy needs to take accountability for his actions.

There was (is?) an abandoned triple silo complex SE of Boise ID. Me and a few friends went there 2-3 times a year back in the early '80s. Looked very much like this, dirt on the ground, silos filled 1/4 full with water, broken steel pipes protruding from the depths... Lots of fun to explore, but we learned early on to not use highway flares for lighting...about 100 yards in and there wasn't enough oxygen to keep them lit! Never encountered anything flammable or explosive (which we never thought about at the time LOL...stupid kids, 18yo or so) Oh well, I still have my pictures. We had a rule: Before starting an adventure, everyone trades cameras...that way, we have pictures of ourselves!
@kenosabi
@kenosabi Год назад
..bro if there's not enough oxygen to keep your flare lit that means there's not nearly enough for you to breathe. Under ground/confined places are extremely dangerous because of things like lack of oxygen, hazard gasses, etc. Confined places are considered one of the most dangerous places on a ship, anywhere industrial, etc. Be safe.

We used to party there as kids in the 80's. Usually went at night and took roman candles, bottle rockets, boom box and had a war down there. A lot of the area was flooded and parts of the floor and steps were missing and if your flash light batteries gave out you were in trouble. For fun we would turn off the flashlight and see if we could get out. Had a lot of fun but looking back it was very dangerous and I was pretty reckless when I was younger. Lesson learned.

And so now, May 4, 2024, eight teenagers got caught in this silo, one of the teens fell down 30 feet and is critically injured. Jerry is probably in legal trouble right now, as the owner who didn’t seal this up.

Any lawsuit should be negated and tossed. He has it posted no trespassing. He did weld the entrance shut a few years ago. Looks like someone cut the bars. All 8 of these boys and girls should be cited for criminal trespass.
@elstongunn4277
@elstongunn4277 Месяц назад
@@hannahtaylor1205 it depends on if lawyers can argue whether or not it was “adequately” sealed off from curious teens. Or that he should have done regular checks on it to make sure it remained completely sealed and impenetrable. It does appear that it was a well-known destination for hoards of young people and tourist-types. There are a few YT videos on this site-as well as other silo sites-that have been posted by “explorers” over the past 8-10 years.

OMG, my parents took me to this silo in the early 80's. That was a dirt road back then. Can't even believe anyone other than locals would have EVER found this place. It cracks me up that there's Columbine graffiti here, do you know how far a drive down I-70 (c-470, Bandimeire and THE GREATEST OPEN AIR concert venue ever RED ROCKS) this is from Columbine? And it made me laugh even harder when I saw it's owned by Jerry Linnebur (I drank in a field with you😂😂😂). If you ever grew up here back then (maybe even now) there are 2 names that everyone from Watkins to Limon and all the tiny towns in between (shout to my Bennett, Strasburg, Byers and Deer Trail fam) knows... Linnebur and Kalcevic.

My father worked on the Elizabeth Titan facility as a young pipefitter. I was about four or five years old. We -- dad, mom, and and my younger brother -- lived in Castle Rock, about 15 miles west of Elizabeth. Post-script: I worked as a young journalist for a small newspaper in Strasburg and I covered events in Strasburg, Bennett, Byers and Deer Trail. I met several members of the Linnebur family and enjoyed my acquaintance, though they didn't have much use for newspaper folks.

If it's a titan 1 site (which I'm guessing it is by the power dome the showed), then it IS the property... thing is the size of several football fields. Guy is a complete idiot for either not developing it or selling it off, given they fetch several million dollars. I understand he might not want to put in the time & effort to renovate it (seriously, Titan 1's are HUGE), but closing it off is just fucking stupid... you're destroying the most noteworthy asset of the property. If you aren't going to do anything with it then sell it for fucks sake.
@franimal007

The owner is playing victim. So sad that I have this on my property, poor poor me. He could close it off if he wanted to, but chooses not to. That would put an end to the publicity thus end the 15 minutes of fame. If he does install a strong opening so only he and whom every he allows in, that would be the waste. Not hard to see that he likes the attention, from what I have read on this site, lots of parties and people have been inside it. I say Good for them! If you are so unhappy, sell it. Heck sell it cheap, like 900K, that would be enough for you to invest it and retire. To the people saying bury it, the word, "Snowflake" fits you perfectly.

Someone dug down 35 feet to an access corridor then broke/blasted their way in. The usual way in is much harder after the USAF filled the shaft in with cement. I would guess that our farmer's dad got in, and found a flooded tunnel system he couldn't afford to fix up so he just left it as-is.

Matthew Davies there was a massive fuel storage tank where that pit is now. When the site was decommissioned they dug the tank out and left the pit open.

@@Homeskillet-mk6bj Yup. Big tank. Still, that entrance shouldn't be there. Somebody created it.

@@matthewdavies2057 this is a tour of a titan 1 site just like this one. It is a series of 4 videos and you will be able to see where this entrance is and why its still exposed.

I understand that there may not be a large local population. Clean out the scrap metals to start the next adventure. I can see this area being utilized for many purposes!-_• survive may be my first thought.

Waist of real estate could be good for a winery storage centre .wine storage is expensive in the USA as more people drink wine there no good storage centres.

Sell it! Thing like that cost million of dollars to build (near billions today)! Sell it to someone who could restore it. Shame really, if owned one of those I'd spend my life fixing it up... I'd be the care taker and would have a clan. The clan could live there with me if they payed dues to help keep the place running.

This is a titan 1 complex and they are massive. If the owner doesn't want sell, it needs to be sealed because they are very dangerous. Toxic lead paint and chemicals everywhere. 3 55×180 ft silos. The risk and the liability of someone getting hurt is to high. Watch ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-19J8FSIM4nE.html she takes you on a tour of a titan 1 complex her dad owned and is still in excellent condition for it age.

I'd restore it maintain it as a secure bug out location if government sold it that is

A secure bug out location that the entire county knows about? Very bad idea. The USAF stripped all the A/C, heating, power, wires and anything they could sell or reuse. You just bought a huge, cold, wet cement hole. Not very secure. That's why there are so many missile bases on sale half finished. Sooner or later the owners realize it's just a bad idea. A very bad idea.
