I knew Gyrus would come back at some point! One of its deck profiles was the first video I saw on your channel, and I gotta be honest, it's one hell of a beast.
Mono color can be lots of fun. Part of the fun is in the challenge, and it helps to clear up bulk. I'm currently trying to build Rosie Cotton of South Lane, but with no clues, food, or treasures besides the food Rosie brings herself. Instead, I'm running living weapons, powerstones, and incubators as my main sources of token stuff.
Wasn't expecting Ellie and Alan, I love playing them, my playgroup hates them. I've got a fine balance between self mill/loot and some reclamation along with top deck manipulation. They're so good.
Korvold is my most favourite deck atm! I play him turn 2-4 and he bonks pretty fast or when I decide to play slower turn 6 but at that moment he is super resilient! Last 2 times I played him he comes around as a 14/14 and grew to 34/34 in that turn 😅 Thank you mate, back in the days it was your video that inspired me to build him and now he leads my favourite deck! I love these underrated commanders formats! Maybe you could also do a video about kind of "forgotten" commanders who used to be played, but aren't any longer due to meta shifts or whatever. Also, another request, if I may ask, you think you could do a deck tech on Rakdos Lord of Riots? I just love the idea of playing big, dumb and janky creatures with insane cost reduction. And Rakdos does that outside of the common green colour combinations.

I did build a blade wing deck that was based around cycling and other effects like trumpeting carnosaur that will allow them to discard themselves into the graveyard, with some zombie and Knight Lords and synergy
I loved the list and will look to make Korvold. I will add a comment here on Shigeki, I have played vs. 4 variations of the deck, between a few people, and as unassuming as it looks it is always the most powerful deck on the table by "working". All your ideas were spot on with shigeki. The loops being uninterruptable via channel functionally are awesome for brewer but the table needs to shut the deck down first unless they lose. It's a bit of a PR problem, but if the brewer can be aware of it, it can work in metas with repeat opponents.
I play Ellie and Allen cycling. I get away with playing like 24 lands because I have like 15 land cyclers. It runs stuff like Kellan, the Kid and Osgood in addition to Imoti to get even more value. It's also a Primal Surge deck, but also runs Gen Wave and Unexpected Results to have a couple fail safes so I don't deck myself. When you hit Chakram Retriever or Intruder Alarm, you start popping off real fast.
The rani was the commander I decided on when I wanted to make a deck for one of my favorite cards "life of the party" Just crammed full of blink and clone effects
Hey man, I wanted to tell you about a deck I got complimented on at the LGS. It is Kaho, Minamo Historian infect deck. So, there are no Infect or Toxic creatures in the 99. The only creatures are ones who Proliferate and a suite of Clones. The ONLY way for my opponents to get poisoned is for me to cast the blue instant spell - Prologue to Phyresis. It draws me a card and gives each opponent a poison counter. Kaho, when protected, can search it up & cast it. Then we go from there with proliferation. I wanted an infect deck that could kill a table instead of just 1 person and fizzle out.
Funny, I did Gyrus a while ago with creatures that has 0 power but etb with counters or triggers when etb, it was pretty funny and powerful casual deck tbh
As a fellow Gyrus enjoyer, I have to point out that Rakdos wouldn't work with him cause his power is specifically based on mana *SPENT*. Had to learn that the hard way myself lol 😅
Gyrus is my absolute fav commander but I don't run the deck to synergize heavily with him, it's a Jund beatdown deck with resilience and consistency in mind and Gyrus is there to patch holes in your game plan if you need him to. Tap out for him if you don't have something better to do, or maybe you need that Bane of Progress in your yard immediately and damn the consequences of not having it later. There's a few graveyard shenanigans cards like Entomb and Buried alive but other than stuff like that I don't focus on self mill at all. My gameplan is a consistent chug and things will end up in the graveyard on their own, no need to rush. The deck performs quite well and I'm always reaching for it to play.
I am convinced the only reason no one but me plays Enrek Sahr is the at he had for so long (new one isn't great either). Ask anyone in my play group the value that he oozes. My favorite mono black commander by far. Casting a god-eternal bontu with a sac outlet in play and looping it over and over again to itself feels so good.
It's off topic. I watch Caleb once a week. I can't resist anymore. It's clear he showered for this video. It's clear the videos he hasn't. I had to watch twice to absorb the content because it's so obvious
Hey, great for the vid! I'm definitely a big fan of my Gyrus deck and have been needing to upgrade him for a while. I do have a question though. What do you think of a The Rani Curse deck with Lynde, Cheerful Torementor in the 99 as a lieutenant? I think Lynde would help drive opponents to hit each other more, plus the goad effects will allow Lynde's self-cursing more time to not be as negative.
Rani I think isn't played as much due to the limited availability of Dr. Who Product as well as a many universes beyond products not appealing to everyone. Regardless of the capabilities and potentials of these cards. I know even from my own experience, I begrudgingly ran Rick Steadfast Leader in my Winota CEDH deck until they printed a non universes beyond card when I could tear my rick in half because of my distaste for that IP.
Ha, joke's on you, mister! I already have a Rani deck! xD (Ellie and Alan too, but I stole inspiration for that deck from somewhere :p But don't sleep on the synergy with Cycling and these two boring scientists...)
@@decktechsfordecks A-yup, as well as some of the newer basic landcycling critters from LotR and later, they're sizeable beaters with high mana values. Though, admittedly, my version of the deck is super budget, but it can still be scary which is fun.
You’re right it is separate but the wording “ enters with counter equal to the amount of mana spent to cast him” doesn’t care about pumping his x ability 😁 We can even cast Gyrus for just 3 mana and he will enter as a 3/3
4:28 Him dissing OG Jurassic Park shows how young he is, every boomer to millennial loved that movie and the characters. The card is just clunky to play. Have to have a grave with big mv creatures, sorcery speed tap effect and exiles your grave so there’s no cheating things indefinitely. There’s an inherent cap. I think that’s why it fell to the wayside. It’s overall effect in bant is only shared with Tocasia and it’s something bant doesn’t do too often (grave strategies).
He wasn't dissing or insulting in any way, he was simply stating the fact that 2 photorealistic faces of real actors looking at a bone is not going to be loved by most of the Magic Fandom.
@@MidoriNatsume a) dissing doesn’t mean trashing a thing, it means disapproval. B) i remember there being hype around the Jurassic park cards as a whole. No clue what u mean by “fact” that the community didn’t like them. Art aside, i stand by the fact the card is underwhelming inherently to most players as the cost is exiling a card permanently from the grave and at sorcery speed. Now if it was at instant speed or sacrifice a permanent instead of exiling one i guarantee this would see more play.
He wasn't dissing Jurassic Park. He was dissing the art. He said nothing about the movie. This wasn't about Jurassic Park. This was about the art on the card.
I’m not a fan of UB so I’ll never build decks out of them. The Dr.Who cards look weird to me, like super out of place. Same with the Jurassic park cards, I really wanted to build the Sultai Scientist with humans but the art just looks so terrible. Shigeki is an absolute unit. I run him in the 99 and he pops off
