Osrs made rs2 even better, a lot of awesome mini games to help the crazy grind for some skills. Lots of quality of life improvements with Runelite too..
I mean, RS in a nutshell got way easier. One of the reason Peter (zezima) stopped playing. But I think the game got better as well, feels less like the labor simulator it once was.
Been asking myself this question. Finally have all the gear I want in the game except tbow and ely, I got all quests done, and now it’s just a race to get 95 slayer and get the hang of the bossing mechanics and eventually do raids 3 when it comes out. Wish you all the best in your gaming ventures. I’m playing on 2 accs, but me doing slayer and another one getting quest cape to be a a main alt for bossing my my future ventures. I’m having a blast! I love osrs!
Could you use wise old man to produce some statistics on at what levels or stats accounts have when they go dormant for a period i.e. what levels do people get bored and take a break
Addictive/Addiction and Engaging are not the same thing. Thinking about a game and/or wanting to play when you get home, is engaging. If you can't go more than 1 hour without wanting to play every single day, that's addictive. You stop all your responsibilities to play, you have an addiction. Addictive/Addiction are long term and Engaging is short term.
It's really the goals that can take weeks, months or even years to accomplish. The feeling when you get there and realising that if you really want to and are determined, you can reach goals you never thought you would. Just like irl, and it motivates me. Currently on the maxing grind, 13/23 skills done and 2163 total level.
i personally think this game is so addicting because a lot of people that play it, have anxiety/ adhd/ depression or even just frustrated with life. when you find goals on here that are so easily obtainable and clear path ahead, it feels good. real life is not always so clear for everyone. at least for me.. i feel like everyone has a owners manual to life that i never received and runescape helps me feel clear headed.
when i got 3rd age on my ironman im pretty sure my reaction was stronger than any drug could release. if thats what meth feels like then sign me up tbh
Simple. There's tons of things to "accomplish" and 90% of the content requires almost no real effort/skill besides continual clicking. It's the perfect dopamine chase. Bossing and Fight Caves/Inferno is about the only thing that requires real execution of knowledge.
My buddy had sold his 6-7 bill bank cause he said he’d never return if he didn’t have anything, and this game was taking up to much time. He didn’t last 6 months lmao
Slow maxing here level 97 zerker with max str magic and ranged, and my original runescape account I made 17 years ago is a maxed 60 atk pure that got 3 def from the fucking dragon claws because they were set to defensive first time equipping? Which is a bug if you ask me but anyway got 200 days played on both and still alot more to go hahaha i like to play tho so taken it slo
My clan member is almost at 1100/1409 items. Lookup Lagg Also, who doesn’t love good ol’ dopamine? I’ve won several speaking awards on the subject of the American Opioid Crisis and as someone who “seeks” his own dopamine rushes. I can tell you, after long periods of time, it becomes progressively more difficult to be satisfied. I assume by my old age I’ll be screwed xD
I’m glad I never got into this game, I tried it and thought it sucked. But I know people who have basically put the only life they will ever get entirely on hold to play this piece of shit game. It’s so destructive and sinister how it exploits your neurochemistry to suck you in and chew you up
Its like dark souls in its replay ability. Alot of max mains make different accs, specific builds, and just keep playing. Myself my main is at a set 109 Cb 99str 75attdef 77 pray 99ranged 96mage. Anyways It makes the game way more challenging while still enjoying high level content. The dopamine release from hitting 95 slay was nice, you should’ve seen my face when i saw not 1 but 2 hydra claw drops! You’re basically playing lottery while doing everything and sometimes you just luck out. Im sure I’m not alone in my experiences we just cant help but to login and keep spinning that wheel lol
osrs is addictive because the people who play it only have something going in life on runescape and so they feel relevant in the game and feel like they are a worthy person because they have 99 attack, unlucky
thats the feeling of accomplishment that almost any online game has, mmorpg as their levels, gear, collections and stuff like that, and mobas, fps, other competitive genre games with their range/division you can show to the rest of playerbase, some just care more than others
Honestly I took a break and haven't touched the game in almost 2 years even though I still keep up to date. Considering coming back to max because I'm only like 80 levels away 😂
I am currently stuck in a sort of limbo. I’d consider my account “high level” but have no raiding experience. Bosses I feel comfortable killing include sire, Cerberus, vorkath, Zulrah, haven’t touched a single wildy boss minus scorpia, very few GWD attempts, but I want to raid! So my video idea would be “what bosses to learn to get you raid ready” if other bosses are even comparable to cox/tob bosses. Or if mechanics from a particular boss are harder or similar to a boss in cox/tob that can be used to practice x mechanic. Thanks for all the great content. Cheers!
is it really even addictive? how are we defining what an addiction is? I love osrs as much as the next guy but we all put the game down for months or years at a time. I play runescape the most when I just don't have anything else going on in my life. I used to play world of warcraft the same way but that became boring and I know one day I will find runescape to be boring and not return.
You dont love rs as much as the next guy then lol, the most ive put runescape down at a time (within 4 years or so) has been around 4 months. There are certainly more dedicated player than i (despite being maxed) realistically, id wager 80% of this community plays runescape, and runescape solely as there only game, and thus, dont take breaks like the common joke we all throw around about never quitting just taking breaks. Just look at the highscores, top 5k players legitimately could not afford to play any other game OR take long breaks, those dudes play 12 hours a day at minimum. 200m skills are fucking absurd.
While it's true you can't "complete" OSRS there's a point where you don't have much left to do. Like I have max gear for every activity, maxed account, maxed POH, like 20 Pets , got 3 tbows and got every niche/QOL teleport there is unlocked. For me I completed the game all I do these days is PK for fun.
Here's a better question: when osrs updates, how many times can you attempt to log in, if you try every five minutes? (Ofc everyone already knows it's INFINITE)
And here I am, watching a video of how addicting OSRS is... while I should be transcribing interviews for my master thesis. Farm and bird runs won't do themselves though.
I think it's a super addictive game if people don't have limits. Everything that is too much is not good, I think the goal in OSRS is to make small goals and fulfill them over time, the game becomes too addictive when we want to reach, for example, a 99 in a skill, it's a simple fact that our brain has a tendency to remember things that are not finished, so if we make a smaller goal and fullfill it over time, you eventually gonna get where you wanna be .
A great video Idea. If you stream! would be teaching beginners TOB and COX on a certain day of the week and your time! Making sure everyone whose on the team mic up on discord! Our community. Even seeing some max mains, some never start raids because you dont learn crap from masses or no one wants to teach beginners unless they have max gear. Not only would it be beneficial to the community but it would make a great video !
I agree with this. The clan I recently joined runs TOB learner Tuesdays which is great way to learn. If more people do this, the gap between learners and efficient raiders will become smaller.
Its a never ending game thats why its so addictive any free roam games ever made are never truly a make your own path while still progressing old school rs is the only game to my knowledge were you can truly do ANYTHIIIIIIIIING you want and can still acheive goals
Well what sucks is seeing a homie go through an addiction with runescape. Me and my 2 roomates, who are like brothers to me since middle school, all play runescape. sadly, over the years, one of them started secluding himself more and more to the game to where he doesnt go out much anymore. he was out of a job for 6 months and played runescape from the time he woke up to the time he went to sleep, every single day. he has a job now, but as soon as he gets home, within a minute hes already back on and chatting with his clan on discord. he barely talks to me anymore unless i go to his room, and even then hes always on his headset on discord. sadly, this has driven me away from wanting to max and i barely play anymore. ive tried talking to him numerous times about it and he seems to be self aware of it but chooses to accept it rather than take a break and just, live life a little away from a screen. this is a bit extreme, i know, but addiction to these types of games is very real. at core, these games are fun and setting goals and achieving them are super rewarding. i still play, if not as much as i used to. but with everything, its all about balance.
