Finally got the Surface Pro 7+. Let's unbox it! But a couple of questions arise... Why is this not Surface Pro 8? And why is it a business only model, not available in the stores? I discuss the answers in this video.

This is the best video on the Pro 7+ imo. I just upgraded from a Pro 4 that I've had for years to the 7+ because of the increased battery life which is the main thing I'm looking for. One reason I love the Surfaces so much that I never hear much about is how physically durable they are. I've accidentally dropped mine countless times and it has functioned good as new all these years. I hear many folks complain about the physical design, but I don't worry so much because perhaps the durability is due to the current design; why mess with it.

I can attest to that as well! I had it in my purse one day and the purse fell off the bar area in our kitchen! I thought instantly that that had broken the screen but no... To my amazement it's still intact and brand new!

THank you for the review, very informative clear and engaging. I've just bought a refurbished Surface 7+ and am looking forward to using it as a complement then replacement for my trusty Surface Pro 7 which still works very well after 4 years. I liked your point at 6:30 about the Surface Pro 7 i5 (the one I have) poor performacne while on a video call. Usually my Zoom ends up freezing due to overheating whenever I'm on a Zoom for a considerable amount of time or when I try to multitask while on a call, which is very annoying. So I'm looking forward to fewer or no freezes while on Zoom on the 7+!

Nice video! I had a Surface Pro 6 and sold it. I've been using the Surface GO, and recently upgraded to the Surface Pro 7(reg, not business model) Current pricing made it irresistible. And I love the Surface pen. I like the Office Suite (I know MS 365!!!) I have the Studio 2, GO, and now another Pro. I couldn't be happier! I think that the naming suggest that the SP8 might be redesigned... My guess is that, in addition to what you said about corporate clients, one of the reasons for MS to wait on a redesign à la SPX is not to kill the ARM brother before it's good enough... They are trying to buy some time for a faster ARM chip and improved Windows on ARM, otherwise if they made the SP7+ a SP8 with a SPX design, who would ever buy the SPX?

I had a Surface Pro 4, then a Surface Book 2. I was looking forward to the Pro 8... for me, the screen size of the Pro 7+ is too small. I also want LTE (or 5G) + 32 GB RAM + 1 TB disk. Also, the battery life of the Pro 4 was poor, so I'd accept a slightly thicker/heavier Pro 8 to get good battery life.

Your the Go-to for Surface Pro/Pen latest info........thanks for breaking this down. "...a form factor (industrial design) change has to happen eventually..." I've been repeating that montra as my rational for holding onto my SP5 (3 yrs now) & not switching to Dell? If MS doesn't either blow-away all expectations on the next SP or just cancel it & make the SPX "truly adoptable" as a PC replacement, I believe MS is going to see A TON of Surface Pro fans/users jump ship for other 2 in 1 laptop/tablet/hybrids.....sadly.
@notfound_63
@notfound_63 3 года назад
What other real options are there anyway? For better or for worse, Microsoft basically still has full control over the Windows tablets' market. There aren't too many products that are able to compete with the Surface in terms of quality, stability and reliability. And for some reason, some brands still insist in 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratios, which I believe makes a lot of potential buyers discard them (myself included).
@chrysopylaedesign
@chrysopylaedesign 3 года назад
@@notfound_63 Yes, in the end MS created a new PC category, paradigme w/ the SP (certainly by SP4). It's what made me adopt an "MS computer???" back in '16 w/ the SP4 & never looked back. But, ".....change has to happen eventually" has been striking like a church bell for at least the last 2 iterations of the SP.

these are too different devices to be compared... the S7+ is the best media consumption device in the market, but you can't do anything work related, even less than on iPads...A SP7 is a laptop first, definitely not the best media consumption device. The only thing where they are close is pen usage, but the added battery life of the Samsung gives it the upper hand, unless one needs a pro app like photoshop... And for browsing, mail etc. any device will do, including a $300 iPad...

surface pros in m y opinion are actually the best two and one hardware available on the market today. Why I had to shell out all the extra money to get the 7+ instead of the 8 is because I was one of the people who paid for the Kensington Docking station, several keyboards,pens and stuff that I would need to replace with the 8. Most of you can go as low as the surface pro 4 and would be ultra happy but being able to easily swap out the ssd was something I needed i my life. If you find the surface pro 7+ and want the rest of the components on the cheap then go wiht the 7+. I only regret paying for the Surface Pro 7 as my Surface Pro 5 lasted way longer. I got stuck on the window logo screen and while removing the screen to get to the ssd I I created some lines in the screen :( everything was soldered on so I wss unable to steal many components due to this but kept the donar board for when I get some flex and fire up my soldering iron.

I get it, the 7+ is a tech refresh for the business enterprise and government sector, that can handle the common productivity and teleconferencing business tasks. Even with the same exterior form factor though, those bezels need to shrink down the same way the GO2’s viewable screen was enlarged. It’s also way overdue a removable and replaceable SSD was implemented. The surface pro 7 seems light years behind the iPad Pro, but despite the iPad’s advancements, it can never be a business laptop replacement.

@liquidmojo

@@oztabletpc For me, The Surface Pro 4 was the “game changer”. It forced Apple to add a keyboard attachable “Pro” to its iPad lineup and upended the ultralight laptop market. Surface Pro 5 and 6 aside from updated internals and retrofitted SIM card capabilities, they were all essentially the same form factor. The Surface Pro 7 at least has a USB C port to replace the mini HDMI, but aside from the much needed USBC support and the internals it is essentially the same form factor as the Surface Pro 4. All the modern innovations went to Surface Pro X which technically has better features across the board, but it limited by the embryonic software offerings for the Windows ARM OS and severely hamstrung performance for x86 emulation. I do have to admit, the Surface Pro is holding its own despite the near 6 year old form factor. I’m just waiting for my GO 1 to stop working before I consider another Surface purchase.

Yes, this form factor, tablet convertibles, is a bit of a dead-end. Consumers have sussed that the tablet and laptop usage are both compromised and not really worth it for the convenience of an all in one. The 360-degree laptop has superseded the detachable and for obvious reasons is a lot better. In the corporate Enterprise world, MS has an advantage with legacy and although the Surface Pro line sells well I think the truth is those backroom decisions to support MS does not necessarily equate to the Surface Pro line being the best choice? The Thinkpad X12 seems like an all-around better device, and hopefully, that will get some corporate love? As an SP7 user, I can say it has been reliable and a very good experience since I bought the Brydge keyboard. Battery life is not as good as it needs to be so I doubt the SP7+ is EVO certified. It is a bit chunky, look at the Thinkpad to see how it should be done (though that also has battery issues). The SP X is likely the way to go as thermally the Surface Pro looks to be at its end. I think WOA SPX were meant to be bursting forth, but MS has sadly failed in its ARM development roadmap, Apple Silicon M1 being twice as fast and with the M1X likely to put them years ahead of MS Silicon they are now chasing shadows.

If the combination of hardware and software manages to catch up with Intel at some point, sevel issues will be solved and even new form factors will become possible....For me too the problem with convertibles is that they are too heavy for use as tablets, so you just end up using them as laptops. If, thanks to ARM they manage to make a convertible with good battery life that's as light as a Surface pro without keyboard, then yes, this will be the new king.

@@_Digitalguy I agree, just seems like MS and Qualcomm are not really inspiring me with hope that they are doing anything or could achieve it? Maybe they will surprise me later this year!

@@andyH_England I think Apple Silicon has has been a big "wake-up" moment for these companies. No wonder Qualcomm acquired Nuvia exactly for this reason and MS started developing their own ARM chips (official for their Azur severs...) after Apple Silicon. Qualcomm in particular had underestimated the potential of ARM on laptops but Apple Silicon has been, unintentionally, the biggest push for Windows on ARM. But it will take a couple of years for them to be competitive with Intel, but at this point people have realized that x86 has hit a ceiling and cannot grow anywhere near as fast as ARM, especially in thermally constrained devices so, they won't abandon the project this time, again thanks to Apple....

Surface devices in general, are probably the most reliable PCs in general, Dell is alright, but their PCs have problems, like problems you don't expect from a device from Microsoft. If they bought more value with the Surface pro line and give more storage and a better processor than i think the Surface devices with be more attractive for people, although they are good devices.

I gave up on Surface after buying the 6 because it was too much like the 4..... 5 years later nothing changes

You gave up on the line not because it didn't do the job as well as other devices, but because you were bored with the design?

The dystopia is already in place where Apple took over using NLP hypnosis and emotional anchoring. So not sure that a dystopia could happen inside of a dystopia. Nice profile pic.

I don't care about the surface pro 7 8 10 12 because Microsoft will never be a decent company and make a Microsoft surface pro that is upgradable which means every part on the machine is upgradable I'm not dumb enough to spend $1,000 per year on the supposedly new and improved Microsoft surface pro bullshit and all it has is a camera that has a few more pixels or just an extra camera or a touch screen that is barely noticeably faster than the last one personally the things are completely and utterly useless until you develop better software that will allow me to be more productive with the products that I spend good hard earned money on but they don't they put limitations on everything in order to force you to buy the supposed new upgraded fancier models when in reality they've had the technology for the past 30 years and most likely way more that this surface pro 7 should have been obsolete 30 years ago but these big corporations do like to milk you for every ounce of money they can possibly get out of you and it is beyond pathetic

@@oztabletpc i think he used gboard.🤣. and got confused between newer surfaces and newer iphones. i mean more cameras? which surface has more camera? barely noticeably faster, again--thats the thing with iphones and ipads, and the non-upgradability(what a word!)
