It's similar to Animate Dead , to keep the enchantment from falling off.

There's a card from New Capenna called "In Too Deep" which is practically the same but it turns a creature into a clue instead.

on arena my friend took control of my creature who had a cartouche on him (cartouches say enchant creature YOU CONTROL) so since i still controlled the enchantment and the creature wasnt in my control anymore the ench fell off and she learned smth abt magic rules that day

Also useful against shelob, child of ungoliant's food tokens made from creatures killed by spiders that have abilities

It says enchant food for the same reason Imprisoned in the moon says “Enchant Land” and why animate dead’s “Enchant creature card in graveyard” gets changed to “Enchant creature” by it’s triggered ability

This card is going straight in my commander deck for being funny. "I turn your commander into a gummy bear."

Technically there are also 8 non creature artifacts that have the type food

One of the earliest ways I got to understand this lesson was seeing Cho-manno's Blessing. I know there are one or two cards with similar text that predate it, somewhere around Tempest, but I started collecting and playing in January 1999, so I think of Masques as my first real block I got in at the beginning of and really experienced. Mageta the Lion and Latulla, Keldon Overseer were the bane of our early games, spellshapers were cracked XD I even owned a card game magazine that had spoilers for "the upcoming new set, Nemesis" XD

I actually learned this one with Imprisoned in the Moon, which turned whatever it enchanted into a land

i scratched my head with "imprison in the moon" until i realized this

When I play with this card, I feel like Majin Buu.

The amusing thing about this one in particular is that if an opponent has Gourmand's Talent, you can turn a key artifact into just food.

Oh yeah there's a 1 drop white enchantment that turns a creature into a vehicle that says "enchant creature or vehicle." I always figured it was to make vehicles with super high crew costs cheaper lmao

You have a great point and that's definitely the main reason to include it. There are multiple ways to turn things into food now and even special food tokens. Syr Ginger comes to mind as well as Brenard making food golem tokens that are otherwise copies of your creatures. Those can be hit as a creature or a food, although this seems pretty much irrelevant. This seems like a bonus of the card

It's obvious that rnd meant you to enchant some food near the game like a sandwice or a drink you can enchant it then gain control of it with memnarch and then eat the food

Today I learned why Imprisoned in the Moon can enchant lands

Most of these effects say “Encanted permanent is ______”. This card is worded alittle differently so you can enchant non-creature foods that may have become foods from other effects in the game.

Majin Buu has entered the chat.

Another example would be Spectra ward, which grants enchanted creature +2/+2 and prot. from all colors. It states that "this effect does not cause auras to be removed from the creature" so it won't remove itself as a white card. HOWEVER it only allows EXISTING auras to stick, you cannot apply any NEW auras to that creature, because you cannot target it (unless of course that aura is colorless)

I figured it was because of other food cards you can hit, but yours makes way more sense.

I assumed they just thought it made sense to be able to sugar coat food

I had this problem with Giant's grasp and the storm giant land. You can turn the land into a giant creature, which you can then attach giant's grasp to, but I didnt know whether or not the enchantment remained when it went back to being just a land. I had to find out the hard way.

Also, there are cards that have the food type along with their other type, so it would just turn them into only food. Like Ginger Brute as an example.

I already figured that was the reason it said that. It... Seems kind of obvious. Once it turns the enchanted creature into a Food, its no longer a creature, so its no longer enchanting a creature and thus goes away. However, this video made me realize that same ruling can also be used to get rid of other Auras. This... Doesn't come up often, but there are other times this would come up, including one or two other enchantments that specifically account for this same situation. I don't think its something you should count on, don't toss in effects that change attributes like permanent type on the hopes of trying to clear all effects from your opponent's Voltron strategy, but the fact its possible is interesting.

I get why it's there, but it also has me wondering about what odd edge cases there might be where you'd want to actually enchant a food token with it.

also, some cards make food with text effect, you can make the very effective food into a normal food!

I like to imagine the reason it works on food is that if for some reason you did this to a food token it now has a nice sugar coating in top of it

As a joke I'm gonna enchant Gingerbrute or Syr Ginger with it just to make them not be a creature despite them being Artifact Creature - Food Golem and Legendary Artifact Creature - Food Knight respectively

and its not even the weirdest aura card. my favorite is still Spellweaver Volute "Enchant instant card in a graveyard"

Technically it also lets you turn candy trail into a normal food, basically makes the opponent discard a card (not worth it but funny)

Appreciate the informational videos as always. Small critique that most people probably don't even care about: Hearing all the wet noises of your mouth in the mic can be incredibly uncomfortable for some people (like if it wasn't you I would've closed the video immediately). It usually happens when you're really close to the mic. IIRC it shouldn't be super hard to filter out with an equalizer if distancing isn't an option (or maybe just some preset depending on the software you use).

That's actually a pretty neat rule to know.

The white ward comes to mind Enchanted creature is protected from white. Witch would immediately remove white ward! After it had a line of text that said it wouldn’t remove it self but I don’t know if it really works like that.
