To me the whole place has an air of sadness, you can almost hear the echos of happy lives once lived there. It reminds us all of the beauty and the fragility of life and just how fleeting it is.

I believe the sad music has much to do with this. No music would be better, then the true atmosphere of the house can be appreciated. Some places evoke happy times, others are nostalgic or sad, with no music to influence the mood. I felt sad watching, and at about half way through, I realized it was the music. lol It kind of too over, so I muted it and appreciated the scenes on their own merit. Missed the commentary, though, so can't have everything. lol

In a lot of places, if the basic utilities (water and power) are turned off for whatever time period determined, then the property can become subject to being condemned and eventually torn down. Pay the taxes and un-used utility bills and the property is left alone. Sometimes much easier than the hassle of selling, etc. Especially if you are loaded. :-D

People need to quit with saying this. Do you even begin to understand what it would cost to restore these places? Not worth it. Do realize, you will be paying for it? Further, why the hell take in so many people you cannot house, then bi_ch & moan about it? Start with yourself. Invite homeless person to live in your home. Just one extra mouth to feed & house. Rich & famous in your country multiple residences, nothing to restore - pressure them to take them in, after all they cry out about it all the time.

When the first signs of dementia appear, people allow their house to take over. They become more reclusive and cleaning & reg house maintenance become unimportant. Usually a loved one finds them and makes the decision to either hospitalize or move them into a care home. They are left with the cleanup that sometimes starts with the best intentions but then life takes over and the task gets placed on the back burner. This place reminds me of my beloved aunt.

This is a very sad place. When I was a teenager my friend and I were on our horses and we went into the woods. There was a dirt road so when we got probably halfway in we saw an old cabin. So we get off our horses we walk around it and it looked abandoned so we saw a window open and we went in. There were a bunch of stuff.. so we're checking it out and all of a sudden this huge man is standing in the doorway. He says "WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON MY PROPERTY?" I'm looking around for a way out. Then I said " We didn't mean any harm. And we really wasn't going to steal anything sir." And he says " If you leave now, I won't tell your parents." We left.. But it was so fun. I love to explore... I've got to say this while I have it in mind! I'm so glad to see you wind the clock! I'd have done the exact same thing! And why shouldn't what ghosts who linger have a grip on the correct hour! 😍 I hafta say, Dave, you use the best music as background for all these exploratory vids and it really adds an air of nostalgia to every object, every photo, every keepsake. Oh, but DO when you scan past a bookcase or shelf with objects on it try to do close ups so we can see each of these, I'm sitting here (in the States) saying No, go back! I wanna see the pattern on that plate! Or in that fabric! But seriously, you do these structures and the lives that graced them a great favor in filming them. You put them permanently into history where they'll never be forgotten. And your own deep appreciation and empathy shows thru in your reticence to take anything and in your care to cover things that are exposed, and close drawers that've been left open. You leave an example for others to follow, and for ONCE it's one that the rest of mankind can take solace in--- in other words, Dave, you do your genre and your country proud. There should be an award for these types of films! Gotta go watch the rest, brb...okay, back again. You did such a fine job. If possible, could you hover a bit over the pottery pieces when you come across them? In that last sequence I noticed three medium sized blue vases and I couldn't tell if they were model2030141728ed after an oriental or a Wedgwood theme. I know exactly how feel, wanting to sit down and just sort thru all the boxes and start cataloguing all that can be found. The feeling throughout leant itself to a reminiscence of what highs and lows transpire in a life, and what transgressions arise in those small spans wherein we measure out the madness of inquiries denied and grace given. So looking forward to your next video, Dave! God bless, and stay safe!! 🙏💖🙋

I wish he'd looked at the expiration dates on the diabetic test strips, they look like the ones I was using just a couple of years ago and they have a fairly short expiration time, would have given a better time frame. The house seems so much more decayed than it should be

Thats what I was thinking, wouldn’t have thought they’d be that much decay in 10 years, such a shame really as this would make a beautiful home and its just been left to get in this state.

05:24 I recognize that Lion stuffed animal. It appears to be a "DREAM PETS" toy that were popular in the 1970's. They are filled with sawdust or something like that, so they tend to be very hard to touch, but they were stylized animals. I have a few of them from my childhood, that's why I recognized it!

We're born, we die. Everything between those two events is life. Amazing place, estate, compound . . . . All of that life, once vibrant, now just gone and forgotten like rain drops in the ocean. Book titles, authors, calendar and mailing dates . . . . So sad and so one day shall you and I, and all that lives. Well except for maybe trees. Some trees live well over five thousand, 5,000 years, and that's a long time. I don't feel quite the same sadness for the passing of a tree as I feel for the passing of a human life. Sad and strange that is.

Makes one realise how mortal we all are. We think when we are in our 20s how invincible we are and life just lies way out ahead and then with what seems a short time we are in our late 40s and approaching mid life. The. We are at the end and everything we strove for for so long suddenly becomes no longer important and we embrace death. This is the most natural thing, the circle of life no one escapes it.

@@hannahwebster5606 That's what I was thinking too.. So many personal items in each room, just left there. Most people, when they leave a place, would at least take some of their personal items with them. The condition of the place seems to be abandoned. I can't imagine anyone staying in that building with all that mold, rotten floors, leaking ceilings, etc. Plus, nothing has been touched in a very long time, as indicated by the amount of dust and cobwebs.

Ok. What I am feeling with this one is that yes many many years ago it was a school. This in more recent times, 1970's, a family home. He an English teacher and she a music teacher. The family diminished. Their son left home, even feeling loss but only child. Lot of their parents things were brought in like the older stuff, like older typewriter and photos. Wheel chair was the gentleman's that lived there and sat with his wife on an evening etc. Once he passed she was on here own. She still taught music, but as she deteriorated she ended up in the bedroom next to the bathroom where she was cared for by home help. I feel no family left. Something happened to the son.
