One worker ant isn’t supposed to reproduce like any one mammal or vertebrate in general wants, they just work for the colony and die when winter comes

All the males have to do is get in the air and give their semen to the queen. For this reason the male ants are usually small compared to the queen. Often they are not bigger than workers. As we can see here the life of the male is not too different but it has to get underground to the queen. So I guess more mass is required to make it past other ground dwellers and the workers of the queen. The male also looks different from the worker ants aside from size and wings. Almost moth-like. They were called sausage flies. Males mating with queen with established colonies is also unseen in many ants. The queen also has a huge abdomen. The proportions are unlike any ant that I have seen. When you look at a honeypot ant with a huge filled abdomen it still looks more like an ant than this wormish queen. I looked these driver ants up and they are army ants. The queens never fly so they are pretty different form most ants I know. I suppose because of this the queen is able to evolve more toward egg production and all other features are not as important in it's life. Their subfamily (dorylinae) is over 70 million years old. I don't know whether that's old for ants but I can see how they can be so different from other ants. Where I live ants look much more like bees and wasps compared to these ants.

from what I understand is some eggs are not fertilized and become males.. While queens develop as pupae depending on the colony itself since all fertilized eggs are females if the colony feels that the queen is coming to and end they will super feed a few pupae to become queens.
