@@EscapementWatch it absolutely does… it takes an already great watch and elevates it to a much more desirable beauty .. do see if u can get a chance to see how well they suit each other …
Gigantic pusher antennae, ultra thick, and I want a Chrono that can tell me more than 30 minutes. I wish we had more three subdial chronos, but without the silly 24hr dial that so many seem to have.
If I were on a budget I’d choose a Hamilton America Intra-matic chronograph over the Seiko. Not only is it cheaper, but it’s also nicer looking. Current grey-market price is about 900 US.
To my eye the dark colour of the sub-dials on the light blue background makes the sub-dials look too small --- a little awkward. On the limited edition with white on white, somehow the proportions work much better for me.
I am a fan of Seiko. Most of my watches are Seiko. But I must say, they were just never able to get the chronograph down just yet. Certainly leaves much to be desired.
Three grand is way too much, let’s see the Tissot PRX chrono is half the price give or take , A Nice Farer Mechanical Chrono is around 2K, so there are options in the 2K zone. For 3K just push a little harder and get a Speedmaster. So no this watch doesn’t fly at 3K
I tried one on. The white dial. Just did not do anything for me whatsoever. Too big and didn't care for the case. Found the end links to be a little weird as well
This is a fantastic watch! Issue is it’s under the SEIKO name, it’s not a King Seiko or a Grand Seiko! So the price point is a big issue. The 8R mechanism is fantastic probably as good as Omega Coaxial and the Rolly Daytona mechanisms. That said this is much better than any other chronograph at this price range out there. The Longines using a modified Valjoux may be the closest and with a pedigree in Lux territory
As good as Rolex or Omega? Are you comparing a Seiko movement with -15/+25 seconds a day to -2/+2 Swiss movements? It's not even a bit close. The 8R movement is way too thick, accuracy is literally on par with the cheapest mechanicals out there and it looks like a $25 miyota. I love Seiko, but they are dropping of a cliff at the moment. $2000+ watches with a cheap 6R movement in it? Come on Seiko. The issue is not the Seiko name, the issue is that it is thick, large, boring, inaccurate and expensive on top.
I don't know if the Hamilton actually looks better than this, I think I like this with it's blue dial but not pay $1000 more like, not even close I don't care if it's automatic that doesn't magically add 1k to the end product. The pricing on this watch is stupid and is the problem with modern seiko, they overcharge on everything.
@@Microwave414 everyone in the watch game overcharges now .. Except maybe Timex, Citizen and a few micros..Seiko knows they can capitalize off their vintage line up being brought back to life..That, and people are paying the prices asked.
Too expensive and not for the most of us who aren't in the SpeedTimer thing. I go for the Longines Big Eye blue dial. To my opinion that ons looks so much better.... And comes with history as well...
8 " L " is the one and only GS movement in high end Seiko's. Spring drive is originally put in a Seiko watch not grand Seiko so therefore a Seiko movement.
The size does not bother me as much as the price. Under 2K I might bite on one 1,500 for sure, but 3K, not going to do it. Will just save up a bit more for a Speedy.
$3000 US and they can't even be bothered putting an emblem on the main crown. They are trying to put themselves in the "luxury" market but they lack the details and QC that just make them seem like they don't really give a shit.
There is an affordable quartz version speed timer that is also out and we did review the black dial version but it does come in blue similar to this watch.
I mean it’s simple. There’s not a $3k price range market for Seiko. The most I go is $1500 for Seiko. And that’s me. Some people would say no more than $3-$500 on a Seiko. Think about it. At $3000 you can get the Longines Zulu time which although a different kind of watch a much nicer watch from a more prestigious brand.
But...why? They make watches at every level of quality and finish. It makes no sense to me that folks will not blink at mass-produced, 4-figure Swatch-group watches but bristle when Seiko competes at that price-point with watches that offer completely in-house manufacturing and world-class finishing. Lose the status-symbol filters and there's no reason a Seiko mechanical automatic vertical-clutch/column-wheel chrono is worth any less than any Swiss equivalent.
Well said David! 100% agree! I have a Longines pioneer chrono coming up in a couple weeks that is 16.5mm thick with a super loud rotor and it cost a lot more then this one. But will sell because it is Longines and swiss!
The Big Eye retails for a few hundred more than the Seiko, and while it's a cool looking watch, the overtly retro "pilot" looks aren't for everyone. It also fits very differently than the Speedtimer. The Seiko also has a more sophisticated movement (vertical clutch), that isn't as loud or wobbly on the wrist as the Swatch/ETA/Longines movement.
Yes this one is a bit cleaner then the Rolex air king I filmed. But most watches are this level of dusty. Red Oris Aquis cherry was also way worse and many more!
I dunno, the huge pushers put me off. And it's 3k lol. No Seiko should be over a grand. 3 grand, I'm saving a bit more and getting a used GS with a Spring drive.
It’s too thick; top heavy. Expensive. Nowadays, there are so many great watches with equal/better quality but more reasonable priced. Seiko/GS has changed so much from the past.
It doesn't sell because it's not a speed timer and I can buy a much nicer chronograph from Sinn, Hamilton, Longines, ect for less money. Make the original speed timers and sell it for 1500 and we might have a deal.
This thing is as ugly as a hobbits foot, and £1500 over priced. Also stop putting see thro backs on ugly movements, Tudor too. The white one is slightly less awful.
Nothing that special about it honestly. The shape and size of the pushers just aren’t it. Overpriced when you compare it to Hamilton. I’m sure it’s premium but definitely not in the tier of the sla055.
Why it can't sell, simply because of that, (i) dial color is awful; (ii) the erectile chrono buttons; (iii) seiko logo finishing is shitty similar to the finishing of SLA033 second hand; (iv) case is freaking thick; (v) finishing of indices is subpar with blunt corners; (vi) there are cheaper watches with NE88 movements which offer tons of value; (vii) overpriced as most modern seiko watches do; (viii) this is not the first time and seiko never listens.
Hamilton Intramati (both the auto and the hand wind) are better in every way than this watch AND it’s less expensive. Seiko has a strange problem with not understanding where their place is in the eyes of the market. I understand going up in price a little bit, but theyre also overshooting watches that they aren’t even more superior than.
They are not better in every way. This has a vertical clutch which is better for accuracy and longevity. Many watch makers do not recommend leaving the chronograph running if you have a horizontal clutch like the Hamilton's. Vertically integrated like this Seiko and the Rolex Daytona you can leave on all day with peace of mind and no amplitude drop. Also, the Seiko has a column wheel the Hamilton had press cheap cam pushers which gives a more mushy feel on the buttons. So it is not better in everyway not even close.
