8:14 To the point of feeling like an outsider, I think that should be intentional, to some degree. In Fallout 1, 2, 3, New Vegas, your character has grown up in this society, to varying degrees (either on the surface, or in a vault). In Fallout 4, you've basically time travelled to the distant future. What the real disconnect is, is how quickly you do seem to adapt to this new world with bizarre factions, and how quickly you can end up romancing an NPC, when you essentially witnessed your spouse being murder just a week ago (from your point of view).
I interpreted this as more of the "foreigner" feeling. Like how someone who wasnt an american born before 2001 may understand how horrible 9/11 is but they may not understand the specific feeling of seeing the towers getting knocked down. I doubt most people outside of America have seen the footage more than once, if at all. I remember seeing it almost every week for months and almost every month aftter that for years.
@@jeremym4451 Yes, but he barely had any chance to process his previous life being destroyed by nuclear armageddon. He wasn't there to see everything be destroyed up there. He goes down with his family and goes to sleep. Wakes up to see his family taken from him, and goes back to sleep. He fails to experience the full gravity of his situation twice. The fact he adapted so well is astonishing. Not even realizing that his son was 60 years old, he did not even have an identity crisis once. He is unrealistic.

I’ve played one full playthrough of Skyrim and I felt this way. Bethesda gives you the ability to get all trophies without the need for re-play, replayability gets disrespected so much nowadays.
I completed basically everything in Skyrim at this point, and have thousands of hours put into it, and I mean it's a old game, just like every other game, you play it so much and experience everything, you just put it down or play it again occasionally, but atleast Skyrim has mods to keep that feeling of something new even after all these years.

Well... the game did release in 2011.. it's 2024. If you HAVENT done basically everything there is to Dom. Or everything you'd ever care to do by now. Id be impressed. And I feel the same, I can play it for a couple days in small spurts.. but I just get to around level like 25-30ish and then it just falls flat and I get that "old samey" feel and I stop playing. But I always come back atleasy 1 or 2 times a year for the shizz.. and I still love it dearly. But yeah.. on to other things. I will patiently wait for Starfield to be a Finished Full release (mods and all DLC) before I make a real assessment of its quality. I have high praise for it and see the loads of potential with only a fee trivial gripes to be honest. I expected Fallout in Space.. and we got.. Fallout in Space (basically) I'll patiently wait for ES6.. and I'll give that the same time I gave Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Starfield. Between 3-4 years. Before I make a true assessment of its worth. The people judging Starfield.. before it's first official DLC.. is just mind boggling to me. They co.pare ot to a game that's been officially complete for nearly a decade now, and another game that's been complete fir 5 years, with mod support for YEARS now. The level of asinine stupidity in that position is beyond my ability to rationalize.

in fallout 4 I only used it as like a platform for mods lol, like it was Gmod or something. I had it as a difficult survival simulator where u would get killed by one hit from most enemies and food is rare, I have 750 hours in the game but have never completed even half of the main quest
I recommend the mod Sim Settlement 2. It adds depth and meaning to the settlement system and adds additional quest and factions as well it's main quest. It doesn't fix the shallow base game itself, but it gives reason to do what you do and you feel like part of the faction you are building.
Seconded. I literally have no interest in playing fo4 ever again without this mod. It, dare I say, makes the game worth playing when I don’t believe it was beforehand.
Yup. And for making main factions less boring, there is a quadrilogy of mods: Depravity, Outcasts, Fusion City Rising and Project Valkyrie. There's also 3DNPC, but it's much smaller than it is in Skyrim, in there it's a must.
The update somehow did something that made it so in my load order all super mutants carry missile launchers. Only mods I know of that would effect the muties is the one that replaced hounds with centaurs (Which doesn't seem to work anymore) and the one that replaced kamikazes with something else (Which also doesn't work anymore). Completely impossible to get through any zone with muties as every single one of them minus the odd kamikaze has a missile launcher now. I disabled both mods, and nothing changed. After doing the newly added Enclave related things (Which were honestly crap, both in terms of quest structure and balance as one section has you come up an elevator and immediately are faced with a wall of power armor lads with top level weapons that instantly melt you as you have no room to dodge nor cover to get behind nor can you sprint through them to a better location) I am basically burnt out as well. There really isn't much to actually do in 4, especially if you like a bit of depth to your games. Everything is so shallow and empty, and with the balancing being so damn bad just in general (Either you get lucky and get a cheesy magic weapon or you don't and have to spend ages shooting everything to make it fall over) it really isn't fun to play. The idea that the game is 200 years after the bombs really doesn't work either, as 200 years is a VERY long time (Thomas Jefferson was still alive 200 years ago). The institute are not compelling, they are hollow self-contradicting idiots who don't have any reason to do anything they do. They are two different entities between their surface actions and the "we're just misunderstood" facade down in their bunker, and the motivation of the facade side completely contradicts their actual actions. If power is a problem why would they throw a million muties topside when the muties are an obviously failed project (And how long has that section been shut down anyways? Judging by the decay you'd guess it has been quite a long time which should mean almost all of the small handful of muties they should have produced would have been wiped out especially with the kamikaze ones)? The fact you cannot pressure them into any dialogue explaining anything (The most you can get is "you wouldn't understand") honestly makes them the worst of the factions. The other three are all shallow and poorly written, but at least they aren't so massively self-contradictory. Mods are the only reason to go back to 4, and they don't fix its biggest issues. Sure you can solve many of them, like the absolutely atrocious weapons and help with some of the balancing issues, but the core problems of a shallow world devoid of depth or sense linger. Skyrim at least has some depth here and there, even if most of the game is barely knee-high. 4 on the other hand isn't even deep enough to get your socks soggy. NV on the other hand is an ocean where reaching the bottom requires a submarine. While on paper I have more time in 4, cut out all the hours pointlessly wasted cleaning up the garbage riddle settlements and fighting to make a decent setup and I'm certain that number would be cut down more than 75% (Seriously, nobody in 4 knows how a broom works).
You forgot to add the game is very badly optimized and run on really old engine witch makes visiting boston area running really low fps. Sone mods tries to fix it by rebulding previs and precombines but it did not fix the fps issue for me even on pre gen update.
I was excited to come back to this game after hearing about its next-gen update It's been a while since I was this disappointed, and I'm on PS5, I put insane hours into the game on PS4, and only stopped after an update made Downtown impossible to explore and caused frequent crashing, I downloaded what mods I could to mitigate things, but it didn't work as well it could've on PC, obviously, I waited years for a reason to come back to Fallout 4, sad to see how little they've done to give us one.
All the towns that could have had interesting stories and quests with npcs to deliver that all were replaced with settlements. Skyrim had numerous towns and villages dotted over the map, while fallout 4 only has a handful.
I play on Xbox Series X and thanks to the new update, I have to save every few minutes or so because you never know when the game will crash, which is why I won't play on survival anymore. You can be just walking down the road and the game crashes. You can be inside a building just exploring and the game crashes. Fast travel to somewhere the game crashes. Never buying another Bugthesda game.
If you play vanilla this update was nice. I used to play with mods but truly love the vanilla experience even if the mods I used back then objectively made the game better. I love playing authentic so the mod problem didn’t harm nothing to the vanilla experience
Since picking up F:NV again and currently at about 29hrs into my new modded playthrough, I have only made it to Novac so far.... But, ive spent so much of that time enjoying the world. Enjoying the plethora of mods that *still work,* even though some are years old at this point, but, more importantly, enjoying the map. Enjoying the world. _Enjoying the people!!_ I'll be honest and say I haven't watched the show yet... I've heard wonderful things, but.... I don't beleive it. I don't think it'll be enough, so I avoid it... But, New Vegas is like a second home. I can explore that empty desert with nostalgia and love. I don't think I could ever do that in F4, even with mods and the like. Though, in saying that, Sim Settlements 1 and 2 is perhaps the greatest thing that could help people wanting to really live in Boston. That, and a start mod that allows you to be "born" there. I never liked that Nate/Nora was pre-war... well, i like the concept, but it was implemented horribly. I think having it way more difficult and have mechanics to learn basic wasteland techniques that developed over the 200 years you slept would've made it _so much better!_ I just felt like we mastered the wastes way too easily.
The game was created for a different kind of audience. Which is what a lot of people are not saying. Fallout 4 is not unplayable. It is just not Fallout anymore. It is something else.
It is Fallout, just under a different company's view. Fallout 1 had a different view than Fallout 2, still the same atmosphere, but different tone. Same can go with Fallout Tactics and Brotherhood of Steel You can say the same with Bethesda's Fallout games, they're still Fallout just different. Can't really expect 2-3 different companies following others ideologies over the past 20-30ish years.

The reasons some people dislike are the reasons a lot of people dislike it. If the lore is what attracted you to previous titles, it truly suffer in this one. This is something else.

I'll never understand why the hell the railroad wanted to blow up the entire institute. The institute made the senfs without them there'd be no more. Not to mention there's all sorts of advanced technology in the institute that would benefit everyone.
The Institute would never allow the railroad to keep existing and would eventually seek to wipe them out as they liberate their synths. So, the railroad would have to eliminate the Institute to survive.

@TheCirclekeeper true but it doesn't seem like the railroad has the people to take the Institute or would suffer crippling casualties to do so. Also, the Institute seems like the kind of organization that would destroy everything when faced with elimination.
New Vegas is better, because the world feels so cowboyish, but it lacks the creature comforts of F4. You can get it there with mods but I like playing vanilla. Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games of the last decades because of the settlement building. Many feel its lacking which isn't a lie but I used to build ghose towns in Minecraft so I love being able to populate my settlements and give each one lore only I will ever care to learn. Thats my biggest drawback from playing another save is "losing" my settlements. I simply hope they add more settlements through the creation club. I really was happy with the new update because I was able to build a second Enclave base in my commonwealth.
I don't see people defending the main story or the quest lines. People that do like Fallout 4, like it for different reasons. Same thing with the people that like Skyrim. Which to these people, these reasons are enough for the game to be good. Which basically shows to me that the game is not made for people who liked the previous titles. It is made to be for a more mainstream audience. Game dumbed down in some ways, so that it could attract people in other ways.

Honestly I could care less, I love EVERY Fallout game, sure there are ones that are better than others, but that doesn't degrade one or another, I just enjoy the games for what they are, I don't care about this whole bickering, Tim Cain said it best, "if you don't like the game, then don't play it", and to me, you can express what you dont like about it, and how to improve it, but complaining and arguing isn't going to help.
I started playing fallout 76 about a month ago now because it was $8 and my friend said I should try it. I was pretty against it as I had when it first came out, and after playing starfield as well was pretty put off by Bethesda by that point. But I relented and now have over 200 hours in the game and am still having a ton of fun, the game has come so far over these 6 years, and I would honestly recommend it now.
I honestly don’t understand how people know updates break mods, but they still update anyways. But fallout New Vegas exists. So mod and play that. It’s great
If you weren't prepared to stop steam from updating the game you had no choice, I had it do it to me but I just downgraded the game after it did the "update" now everything is back to normal.
I think you made some strong points, and I still like fallout 4. I grew up playing Fallout like many people, but 4 is my favourite and most played. I think the biggest point you made that i agree with is that the NPCs are dull. It's something I'm noticing much more now that I've hundreds if not thousands of hours in the game, and it's become stale.
When you love a game so much, you start to notice more flaws, and honestly that's ok, personally I've never seen a game thats flawless, and to me Fallout 4 is a great game, but very flawed.

The issue with fallout 4 is its lack of notable characters. If I asked the question, name 4 characters from Skyrim. You could, easily. Name 4 characters from The Witcher 3, and you could, ten times over. Name 4 characters from Mass Effect. You could. Fallout 4. You'd struggle.

It's great how you can still enjoy older games like New Vegas and Morrowind. I adored NV, but I tried to play it recently but just couldn't do it. It's partially because I'm very familiar with it. But I tried to play KOTOR 2 I hich i don't really remember and it was unplayable. I envy you. And great video as always. I always find your content riveting.
Everyone keeps saying how Beth's latest update pushed Fallout London away indefinitely... well while that's true, we need to remember that it pushed EVERY major expansion mod indefinitely. Miami, Cascadia, Vault 13. They all use Script Extender, along with a plethora of other mods that need to be updated to work with the latest trash from bethesda and some of these mods haven't been maintained for YEARS. If you think that Bethesda screwed everythign up, then believe me you don't even realize how truly bad the situation is right now.

"then I realized, like I was shot...with a diamond, a diamond bullet..straight through my forehead.." use mods to make the game harder, quicker enemy respawn mods, more enemy spawn points, avoid perk buffs for weapons and armor, mods where enemies see farther; AND use mods to make things easier, more gold for vendors, boxes of scrap next to every workbench. elianora's 'make vaultsuits at the chem station' mod still works, and those suits have the option for ballistic weave, once it's unlocked. even some of the creation club stuff is worth it, the backpack, f4s sentinel power armor companion, the alien weapon pack. these games are like sculptures, but with mods they're pliable, you can make them what YOU want.

I was enjoying the base game until the next gen update caused my game to crash repeatedly making it unplayable. So now I'm playing fallout 76 and the mountains and landscape are amazing

Fallout 4 v1.10.163 now referred to as OLD-GEN compared to Next Gen update currently v1.10.980, still exists and is played by a lot of players still. I still play Old Gen and there is a Downgrader mod now to help you just like they did with Skyrim SE when many of us downgraded from AE back to good ole SE. Many of us also saved the URL for the exact version of the Unofficial patch that still works with the Old-Gen, and many mods that work only with Old-Gen are still there. So there is no reason to get all worried. As for the new mods to come, the new F4SE and Address Library is already out and those still in the modding scene are hard at work updating their mods, as well as older mod authors have surprisingly returned to update old mods that gamers love. I am not going to say all the mods we love have or even will get updated cause we all know they won't. That is why I stuck with Old Gen and I'm fine with that choice. All that aside, I still find Fallout 4 fun to play just as I love fallout 3, and New Vegas. I love each Fallout game for my own reasons and don't hate or love either of them more then the other, they each have a special place in my Fallout loving heart.
I've had the same problem with every game I play the past few years.......Fallout 4 MODS bro....mother-lovin' Fallout 4 MMOODSSS. I have just discovered mods and I just don't have enough time in the day for all this content! I thought I was almost done with Sim Settlements 2...wasn't even half-way through the FIRST CHAPTER!! Let alone the other 2 chapters, the side quests and the whole police force questline and starting up new industries while I scout the actual stats and capabilities of my settlers to see who will make a good mayor for this town while I move on to the next settlement. sshheesshhh!.. I'm researching ambient music mods like Blade Runner and Dystopian Synth-type songs to be playing as I stalk through the Wasteland in these crazy new weather mods full of volumetric fog and heavy rainstorms. Then ya bring in 15-20 new weapons mods and all new animations while using said weapons. Also, an environment overhaul where the grass, trees and vines are all grown out and there's more cover to where you can hunker down for a quick rest whilst you play on survival mode, then your right back at it zipping in and out of dangerous territory with a mod that enhances the A.I's battle capabilities. Mixing in something like Sim Settlements 2 (all 3 chapters pack) is really all that's needed for a completely new play style where you don't have to micromanage your settlements and pick up every little freaking object because the settlers do ALL THEIR OWN BUILDING ( and I'm a hoarder on this game, I love collecting!) and with all the new devices, new settlers and NPC's with full dialogue questlines, it's crazy how much content is there to experience in just ONE mod. I heard you say something about the factions feeling dull...look no further mate! There's now mods to completely overhaul the Brotherhood of Steel, The Minutemen, The Institute, The Gunners AND the Raiders. Full clothing, armof and weapons upgrades for them! There's even a crazily in depth Feral Ghouls overhaul that gives them new textures and behaviors and speeds and buffs....freaking scary out there at night now!! And there's always the NSFW crowd...and man, there's more of that than really ever needs to be. Just came across a new recruitable settler/companion who is either a dominatrix or a stripper with full animations and full dialogue and full penetr---jk jk. But she's got like a bordello of chicks with her too...I'm trying to find out where those girls went off to, that was some interesting dialogue! Alright young sir, Robco Industries isn't paying me to dilly-dally, so what is it going to be today? The Robco Refrigerator/deep freeze combo or the riding lawnmower that doubles as a toilet? Everything is already taken care of just initial here and we'll see you back in the wasteland tomorrow 9am sharp! Pleasure doing business with you!
new vegas is best in the series. i never enjoyed playing fallout 3 or 4, every time i tried, i got so bored halfway through the game that i could not continue playing
How could you not enjoy 3? You get to go baby mode, you get the ghoul mask, go to Pittsburgh, be a slaver, make fire ants go extinct, and help vampires start a blood drive
In a sense the main character in fallout 4 is an outsider as they were born about 240 years earlier and weren't in the world for a little over 200 years Having been frozen in vault 114 back in 2077 so although it may be place that they once lived it also isn't
You can just roll back the update with a mod or get the gog version without the drm bs that forces auto updates. Steam is also to blame for the lack of control of our games on their platform.
Before the update I had a 150 modded game with 3 months of game time I had civilizations I had every collectible I had everything the game was so expensive and so immersive in depth overhaul mods everything all on console but the update took that all from me
It's terrible when you're really looking forward to a game and you just can't get into it. And you're thinking "What if I can't get into the next game? Or the next? What will I do then?" I'm really looking forward to several games that will be my second or third playthrus, including Fallout 4 and I'm worried I won't be able to get into them. I mean I can't very well just play Baldur's Gate 3 over and over forever.

Mods....they address almost every complaint, why would you make your 3rd play Vanilla? I agree NV is better out of the box, particularly in it's story telling, but modded FO4 is maybe better. And that includes countless new quests and characters all voiced. FO4 is kinda like minecraft....it's a canvas on which you put mods.FO4 is one of the most heavily modded games in existence.
Well, read a book. Why expect a post apocalyptical sparsely populated wasteland to have any continuity, modern day real life doesn't. NV is boring, hollow, and linear ; besides rpg npcs are always 1 dimensional, cardboard, and tedious..
Fallout 4, like Fallout 3, shows a utopian post-apocalypse that is very hard to believe. The very existence and way of life of people in these worlds raises a lot of questions. Just imagine that scientists who locked themselves underground after the bombs fell were able not only to survive, but also to create robots that cannot be distinguished from humans. From the fallout, these games have only one name left.
I don't know... I'm playing it now and still enjoying it. Given, I have an older version installed, without the "next gen" update, and a bunch of story mods like Sim Settlements or Outcasts four mods. And even without mods... I really like Cait and Curie and their stories and development. However, everyone is in agreement that your choice of factions sucks even more so than in Skyrim. And no one is playing unmodded Fallout 4 anyway, same as with Skyrim. Instead, this whole video should've been just three words long - "Next Gen Update". Since unless you do some complicated wizardry, you can't refuse it, and it breaks everything while adding nothing.
I played it for the second time a couple of months ago, the vanilla ps4 disc on my ps5. No update, no mods. Got the platinum and had a blast 😂 I'm strange though.
Question: does Fallout 4 crash a lot with no mods? Fallout 3 and Skyrim crashed a bit, but not to the point it became unplayable. I just got a used PS4, and don't have high speed internet, and only play offline so I'm wondering if it's even worth buying Fallout4?
I still play on a regular Xbox one and when I was doing my survival playthrough, it didn't crash too much. For me, it mainly crashed when going through doors (load screens) and downtown Boston
Fallout 4 is great besides Preston garvey annoying dialogue the brotherhood the railroad had a very good quest line and there was a lot of memorable characters u wouldn’t get as many random encounter like Skyrim but I look past it cause certain quest are really good and I personally feel like the DLCs are 10x better then the game especially far harbor it was a amazing story u get sucked into the game will never be better then Skyrim or any other fallout but it by far is a fun game to play with or without mods in my opinion
Well, consider who the head writer is of Fallout 4. The two downfalls of BGS games: The shtty writing and the total stripping and removal of RPG mechanics - making "generic games intended for the simplest of players to be able to play. Anyone expecting anything better for TES VI is self-deluded...
Video idea Where are all the great video games writers? Comparing the medium to early television and movies you had big names like Arthur c Clarke working or talents like Gene Roddenberry emerging from it. I imagine writers are attracted to working in video games. Their are worlds to be built, lore to be created, quests to be designed and dialogue to have fun with. And Yes there are more unique challenges to working in video games. Working as part of team, technology and budget constraints, ideas that can't be implemented as desired but shouldn't we by now have seen a generation of talent who got their start in video games. Will we ever? It might seem like a stupid question but how often do we hear about immersion? How often do we hear about stupid characters, dialogue, major plot holes? On a different note your gaming tastes will change over time. Used to play a lot of paradox games for years until recently till I saw that map of Europe was completely uninspired by it anymore. only started playing Skyrim and New Vegas for something completely different

Last week while playing the PS5 update my PS5 overheated & wouldn't turn back on till I unplugged it. Found out the performance mode is the cause & yes it was clean & well ventilated. Found out its a legit problem. Some say the solution is playing at 30 to 40 fps. So I'm going to try that today while watching a movie.
Because on PC alot of the mods especially the older ones rely on f4se to run, and this "update" broke f4se causing most mods to not work, this was the main reason why a major mod fallout london got pushed back. Which made alot of people upset at the update. And fallout 4 is really boring without any mods
On PC anyway it would have been much easier if certain mod authors weren't shilling for Bethesda. As soon as they decided to upgrade a few key mods the entire thing came crashing down.

The game felt kinda dated trying it out for the 1st time in 2024. I dunno what mods will help w/ that but tired of going through all that. Am trying out Outer Worlds though just cus it's more modern.
I feel like Fallout 4 is there for the gameplay and that's it really. If you play it you don't play for the characters, story or world building but the gameplay. For all the other games it's almost the reverse. I mean I enjoy the gameplay of the others so it doesn't bother me. Fallout 4 has never really sat right with me. It's not bad, it's just not the same or what I want from Fallout
Bethesda is stupid as hell; this should not come as a surprise. When you mod a Bethesda game, it is, as is apparent, not because of their help or even their turning a blind eye, but in spite of them. This is a fixable issue; revert the game to an older version. All your old mods will work. Yes, more issues will arise in the future, as mods start getting made for updated fallout, but the community will make a good game, in spite of Bethesda, as always.
In my opinion, some of the factions like Institute and Minutemen had some potential to be interesting factions. But just like in new vegas, you are introduced to basics of the faction, however unlike new vegas, they never show the depth of what could have been. And it just left me looking at all factions of fallout 4 as different levels of idiots.
