This is an important conversation prompted by the increasing noise to signal ratio in the public conversation about sustainability and regeneration. Too many of the keen consultants and "change makers" that have recently joined the trend towards using the word 'regeneration' without really taking the time to develop a nuanced understanding about the relationship between sustainability and regeneration are now calling 'sustainability' an outdated approach or goal - far from it.
Bill Baue and I have more than half a century of combined experience in the field of sustainability and have also contributed to the increasing interest in regenerative development. Various long exchanges on Linked-In made it apparent that in sound bites it seemed we were disagreeing but we both knew we were deeply aligned, so this conversation was in part to clear up our social media friction, but the topic is highly relevant to all those working on sustainability AND regeneration.

More about the amazing work of Bill Baue - co-founder of r3.0:
www.r3-0.org
"As an internationally recognized expert on ThriveAbility, Sustainability Context, and Online Stakeholder Engagement, Bill designs systemic transformation at global, company, and community levels. A serial entrepreneur, he’s co-founder of a number of companies and initiatives: ThriveAbility Foundation, Sustainability Context Group, Convetit and Sea Change Radio. He works with organizations across the sustainability ecosystem, including AccountAbility, Audubon, Ceres, GE, Global Compact, Harvard, UNCTAD, UNEP, Walmart, and Worldwatch Institute."
Bill Baue on r3.0
“What excites me most about working with r3.0 is the opportunity to collaborate with other ‘positive mavericks’ who see that efforts in sustainability reporting and integrated reporting to date - while laudably setting a solid foundation - have yet to deliver the needed transformation to true sustainability and beyond. So r3.0 is needed to help actualize the promise of a really regenerative & inclusive economy.”

Important discussion 17m30s Are we overstating Agricultural Revolution though? Dawn of Everything by Wengrow and Graeber hypothesise that humans have existed in multimodalities and polycultural organising patterns throughout our existence. There was no single, simple transition to an agricultural mode, rather regional variations of food gathering based on a variety of factors including place, seasonality, effort, etc

Great that the technical and ethical narratives and getting together! It's SO! important. We need to know technically how humanity went so far off course to help it find a path forward!

I think you missed what happened to the Brundtland Report... It stated the right principle, but then the OECD perverted its meaning in defining the metrics for steering the system, which,... actually steered the economy to growth the threat ever faster.
