Why It's OK to Feel Not OK: Finding Strength Through Divorce

If you've followed Grass Roots Gardening lately, you might be aware that I've been going through some big life changes. In this video, I wanted to share an update with y'all to let you know how things are going -- and share some wisdom that I've gained from this experience. Thank you for watching and for being a part of my journey!
If you’re going through a tough time in your life for whatever the reason, just know that people aren’t expecting you to be put together all the time. Nor should you expect this from yourself. You have to know that's it’s perfectly fine to not be alright. Cut yourself some slack if everything seems to be a mess. Life isn't always perfect and news flash - neither are you or anyone else. We make mistakes, we screw up, and we’ll continue to make even more mistakes. Accept that you aren’t perfect, and that it is absolutely OK to NOT be OK right now.
*Give yourself grace.* Treat yourself with the same kindness with which you treat others. Allow yourself the time and space to begin healing. Breathe, take the time to just _breathe._ As simple as that sounds, it’s super important and can be extremely beneficial. No matter what you have to do today, take time to just relax and focus on your breathing. Believe in yourself, you CAN and WILL get through this!
*Perspective* Look at this situation as a crossroads in your life. Take this event as an option to make positive changes to better yourself. How can you use this life changing event to take a different direction that will benefit you in the long run? Don't just look at your situation with gloom, what options are there to help you get where you want to be? Could this actually be a blessing in disguise? If you change your perspective your situation might actually be a positive instead of a negative! Use the momentum of this situation to make changes you might have been scared to make in the past. Could this be time for a lifestyle, career, or significant other change?
*Support system* Use whatever resources you have around you for support. This can be friends, family, co-workers, even self help videos and books. Take advantage of any support mechanisms you can find to build yourself up. Don't try to carry all the weight on your shoulders alone, it’s not healthy and sometimes not even possible at all. Allow others to help you if they offer. You don't have to go through this alone, reach out to whatever mechanism that is within your reach for support.
*Positive change & hobbies* Have you ever wanted to try something new? Now is a great time to experiment with any new things that maybe you've always wanted to try but never did! Whether it be painting, joining a book club, mountain biking, anything that is positively helping you to get your mind off of the matter at hand will help you to build a better mindset. Make a realistic list of things you need to accomplish and work slowly towards completing them. Writing down your thoughts and tasks can help clear up a little space in your mental hard drive. Don't overwhelm yourself with the list, but set obtainable goals to complete them and work at a pace that wont drain you. Keeping your mental & physical energy stored up is very important right now. Don't waste it feverishly trying to get everything done all at once.
*Let go.* This is much easier said than done. It’s important to realize that whatever is happening today it is only temporary. This, like all other things, will soon pass. No matter how big, scary, terrible, etc. it will eventually pass and you’ll be in a better spot sooner than later. There will always be memories from the past. Choose which memories you allow to take up space in your mind, let the others go.
*Forgiveness* Now this is a tough one. You can say you forgive someone or something, but how do you actually give this forgiveness? I think that sometimes to actually truly forgive someone just takes time. Obviously you have to really want to forgive first, but then you just have to let time run its course until you get the true feeling and benefits of forgiveness. It’s not easy nor quick in some cases, but when you are actually able to move past and truly forgive its a great feeling!
Lastly, just *hang in there!* This storm will eventually pass and the sun will shine again. Be strong, believe in yourself, and everything will work out. I hope this was of some help to y'all and I sure appreciate your support by watching this video. Take care of yourself & others!

Thank you so much for posting Ryan. Such a heartfelt video and letting people in on your journey. It's not easy going through a tough time. Congrats on the 15mo being over and much more for your future to come now. Nobody expects to have life changing experiences, but we do. Somehow perseverance, and like you said, grace, get us through. Nobody can do it alone. I appreciate your support to your viewers 🌿

Forgiving and letting go is hard work. Give it to the Lord and He will get you through it. Worked for me. I thought it impossible, but I made it.
