+Name Here ....AND credit card information, texting and location information (including but not limited to when you are home and not home, who you are talking to, anything you think should only be between you and your friends or family). Technically speaking, this is a weapon they're being asked to create. once that genie is out of the bottle we're looking at a global power grab. Governments knowing where you are 24/7, who you talk to, your health information. With this they could push governmental sensorship, DENYING PEOPLE HEALTH BENEFITS for reasons they choose to withold when its all information they took from your phone. And then what about hackers? The governments get hacked all the time, and getting their hands on this technology would put EVERYONE with a phone at risk. Its not an isolated incident. Once the FBI sees that they can step over a boundary with apple, you can bet your ass android is next, and then all technology. Its a matter of setting the boundary and protecting our american rights.

If it's proprietary, which Nokia phones were, then it's not trustworthy. Non-GSM/4G devices with only Wifi and Bluetooth are more trustworthy, but they, too, still have issues. Mass surveillance is endemic, unfortunately.

Ангелина Суворова Theres nothing wrong with adblock itself, but on youtube i disable it because the youtubers that i watch otherwise won't get any ad revenue, now for a channel like watchmojo or something i dont care, because in my opinion watchmojo is more just a business. Channels like NerdCubed or Game Theory deserve the ad revenue in my opinion so therefore i disable my adblock, i also dont have much money to spend so if youtubers miss some income they might step over to paid services which i dont want to happen, some youtubers already promised his/her viewers that they will keep their videos free for everyone which is lovely, but thats not necessarily all of them.

@akiflyer
@akiflyer 8 лет назад
+titanslayer Same reason as it has always been, status. Back in the day everyone knew apple's shit was overpriced brand garbage, the only reason you might get it is if you're a graphics designer since it had plenty of programs for that or of course, you had nothing better to do with your money. But other than that it was expensive, incompatible with most external programs and games. Same thing with the ipod, it was exactly the same thing as an MP3 but 4x the price... But around 2010 there was a hipster trend, where ironically being a hipster was popular... and what did the stereotypical hipster do? Hang out a starbucks with their macbook and their ipod. iphones came out and since people already knew them from the hipster trend but no one knew what android was, they got that... The new touchphone technology was a big hit and since most people got an iphone, and all the students had a macbook, apple's shit became more and more popular... and people seem to have forgotten their stuff is still overpriced garbage... I'm gonna say what my teacher once said... "You're paying double the price to advertise someone else's company."
@devoywilliams5549
@devoywilliams5549 8 лет назад
+akiflyer Windows 10 is disgusting, so many back doors and spying software. Its a reason why business prefer macs over Windows. iPhones are simply better than android, I had a galaxy s5 until now never owned a iPhone now I do.
@devoywilliams5549
@devoywilliams5549 8 лет назад
+akiflyer it's just better all around, that's why business use iPhones and macs. It's more secure and less likely to get hacked and very difficult. Windows 10 is a spying machine and a ton of back doors for hackers to steal your information.

I can tell you how they most likely did it and it would be mostly hardware and not software and would start with actually taking the phone apart.
@Afitz200
@Afitz200 7 лет назад
The problem is, the phone was an iPhone 5c, which has outdated and non-top of the line encryption tech for the device. Since the 5S, all phones come with an "enclave" portion of the CPU which is not possible to break into by outside attackers. If the criminal were to have used a newer phone, the FBI would likely have been out of luck.

@masterimbecile

So to summarize, the Apple encryption consists of: The original data, the 128-bits chunks of data generated from the original data that are then scrambled, a 256-bit key that's inserted into the scramble to jumble it some more and is also "baked into" the hardware, a PIN code (set by the user) to scramble that even more, and a soft ware and hardware delay to make it tough for other computers to "brute-fore" guess the pin code/ hardware key in order to even begin brute-forcing the 128-bit scrambled data. Hope I'm not missing anything.

Even if they remove the software delay and automatic wipe using custom firmware, there would still be a 80ms hardware delay and if you use an alphanumeric password with 6 or more characters it would take yours to brute-force it.

The thing I'm worried about is quantum computers. Right now they're' in their infancy, barely being about to do 2+2, but what happens in 20 years from now? It would render almost all encryption obsolete. Government's and big companies that could afford one of these computers could break any kind of encryption thrown at it.

My question is can a copy of the encrypted phone data be cloned in a virtual machine (like running android in windows like bluestacks) if so, then can we get a million Raspberry pi's to run the pin code once., and see which one works. I remember a chinese team broke the old iphone OS and made a VM of it. Or why can't Apple just let a neutral party that the Government and them use a VM machine "like" to decode. Apple already has a VM version they use. Or is the first half of the encrypted Pin stored in an off site server.?.

Between password & fingerprint, which is highest security for my phone?
@Afitz200
@Afitz200 7 лет назад
Your password is used to encrypt the key used to encrypt your entire iPhone. This means that so long as you have a long and secure password for your iPhone, you likely won't have any attackers able to break in. The fingerprint is just a faster way unlock your iPhone, it still requires a password in place for file encryption. When the phone verifies your fingerprint, it just set the phone to an unlocked state and goes to your home screen. You still get the benefits of encryption. So long as you can trust that no one will use your thumb while you are sleeping, or force you to unlock your phone with your thumb. (In the US, the government can force you to use fingerprint tech to unlock a device, but not force you to reveal a password. As the password is known, and the finger is physical.) This is why when you first turn on your iPhone, it informs you that you must enter your password before the fingerprint will work, this is because it the iPhone must use your password to retrieve the key to decrypt your files. After 4 failed fingerprint logins (or 48 hours without use of your iPhone), the phone automatically removes the keys from it's memory, requiring the password to be entered again.

My attorney just recently told me that the US government has passed a bill allowing them to track utilize anything that is ran off your phones data. Messaging apps, etc.... And since you have to authorize downloading the app with Apple ID password.... Authorities can technically prove in court that you personally authorized the app... Which proves that whatever the content may be discussed in that data app.... Is You! Not sure as to what specific bill this is... But might be worth some research. Now another situation I've heard recently(could be myth)... Is that the local police here in Las Vegas have been using a device that they plug into your phone that allows them access. I truly find it hard to believe, even though this is supposed to be a free county, that Apple would able to deny any government agency access toooooooo anyyyyyythingggg. I just feel naive to believe that we have any privacy whatsoever with technology at this point.

How about not giving the government a way to access our phones without permission? It should work just like real life... Want what's on the phone? Get a warrant. Refuse the warrant? Go to jail. Simple... How is this any different from accessing someone's house?

Our privacy is still more important than their cases. They will have to find alternative means. We will not sacrifice the privacy of everybody so they can get information on a deceased suspect. Cellular devices are in effect extensions of ourselves and our constitutional rights apply to them just as much as anything else. They cannot force you to give them the password, but they can confiscate your phone. Never give them your password. Always use at least six characters. Never make it just a word or just a number.

For all we know they already have the means to crack it, but want the public to have a sense of false privacy. If true, however, Apple should keep the means to unlock any of their devices in certain cases where it would help authorities solve an investigation where a serious crime has been committed. To cross their hands and decide not to help when in reality they would be able to sounds a little irresponsible. I wouldn't give a damn about the privacy of a killer, child abuser or a terrorist. And if violating their privacy helps solve a case or can put them in jail then by all means Apple should do it. But only in these cases where an event has occurred and there's evidence and ground to do it, not just give the government a tool where they can do it freely anytime they want to anyone they feel like it.
