Netherlands: 3 exams. One theoretical, you need to get 41 of 50 questions right. One exam in handling which consists of a slow section cornering/slalom, braking section with three different styles of braking including emergency braking with full ABS. And a fast section doing fast slalom and handling. And one part walking with the bike. Then on to the traffic exam. All in all about 20-30 lessons costing around 75 euros per lesson. Total cost is around 2000-3000 euros.
Sounds a lot like Sweden's tests. A bit of difference in the emergency breaking, that's where we have our mandatory risk assessment course. We also walk with the bike in the slow maneuver test. Interesting to hear how it's like in the Netherlands! Ride safe /Pontus
How was the total cost calculated? Was renting a bike perhaps included in that? I don't support this kind of over management but you know where motorbikes are concerned there is definitely some merit in ensuring that people on motorbikes can actually ride a motorbike properly. Anyway we don't want the next ghostrider to be incompetent.
The cost is an estimate of everything together like lessons, learning permits, risk assessments, exams and also renting the bike from a school. The cost can vary depending on how many lessons you take of course. But you are totally right that this ensures that you become a safe rider when you get your license. I don't regret paying what I did because I felt very experienced when I was done with my license, but it was a hassle. Thanks for watching / Pontus
@@4wheelsaligned I'm moving to Sweden from the US and I have been riding for a while already. Can I go straight to the exam to get my license, reducing the cost?
In norway, it's not that different, I spent about 6,5 k total, and about 1/3 of that was a '97 mid weight bike. i couldn't practice privately. however, I didn't have a car lisence so some of that was trafic related and the total cost includes riding gear.
Just a question, does international licence works here. I have international motorbike licence from my country, would i still need to apply a fresh license in sweden?
It depends on which country you have a license from. Typically if you have one from any European country you can use it in Sweden too. As a tourist from outside of Europe it may be a bit more tricky. It depends on which country you have your license from. If the license does not have a picture you need bring your passport to complement it. The license also need to be in either English, German or French. If not then you need to bring papers with translation in either Swedish, English, German, French, danish or Norwegian. You can use an international license in Sweden for a year, but then you need to send in papers to get a Swedish version if you are staying longer than that, or if you become a citizen. If you don’t then your license will be revoked and you need to apply for a new one according to our video. You also need to follow the Swedish laws so even though you may have a licence from a country where you get it at a young age, you need to be at least 18 years old to drive a heavy motorcycle in Sweden.
It’s definitely worth it! The cost of insurance can be hefty if you choose a super sport bike, however the cost for touring or cruisers it’s not that high. And even though the Swedish weather comes with a lot of rain it’s also often the perfect riding temperature. Especially for those with full racing gear that are otherwise sweating their butts of in other parts of Europe. 😎
You can, however, if you do, you can only ride motorcycles with automatic transmission, and the tests are pretty much the same, so it's more worth it to get a regular license. You can convert your license to a swedish one if you are permanently living in Sweden. As a tourist, you can ride with your license for as long as you want. Thanks for watching / Pontus
Romania here. You need 40h of moto school and then pass a legislation exam you need 22 questions out of 26. Then slow maneuvering exam and then another test where you have to ride in traffic with a police car following you for 30 minutes and make less than 2-3 minor mistakes there is a points system but I don’t know exactly how it works. Its cheaper though, around 450-700€.
cool... polish license for motorcycle at least do not require you to have one, there are schools with own bikes and national examination bikes are present in every exam center. Cost is also much lower but, well our income is not even in €. Beside theory exam, we have city ride where a lot of people fail and slow maneuvers that include: motorcycle knowledge, motorcycle "walking", fig 8, slow slalom, fast slalom (30 kph avr speed), avoidance left/right (50+ kph), uphill start, emergency stop, stop at point. Stalling, riding on white line, touching cones, touching ground with feet while riding - fail exam, see ya next time.
Sounds similar to the Swedish test, if you touch the ground with your feet while doing the slow manoeuvre test it’s game over. Nice that it’s a bit cheaper for you guys in Poland :)
Here in switzerland I just dropped to the traffic office, signed up for a learning permit. Since I have a car license, I don’t need to do a theory exam and a first aid course anymore. Then I had to do a 3x4h “basics course” with a group that cost me like 300 euros. Now that that is complete I have got 1 year to do whatever the fuck I want on the bike as long as I stay in switzerland and don’t kill myself. You can still take lessons and courses at your own discretion, but I’ve already ridden 15k km and gone through a bunch of mountain passes before taking my exam.
I wish we had the same system in Sweden. It is so expensive to complete learn here, and the logistics of it is even worse. Then add on that getting an exam time if almost impossible without buying a alert bot
It doesn't have to be hard if you're a decent driver. I did the two compulsory theory/driving risk lessons, then the theory test and driving test, without taking a single lesson. Cost me maybe 6000kr (~$550) in total.
I've got mine in Sweden a year ago. 15000 sek in total, no friends or own bike. The biggest problems you didn't mention: theory test is done in swedish ONLY. There is an option to do it with an interpreter, but the waiting time is crazy long, like half a year long. And tbh, the interpreter was not the best at understanding traffic specific questions:) One more waiting pain - if you fail the practice test, the next available time might easily be two months ahead. There are some online helpers that monitor time though.
Thats crazy! Yes, there's a big problem with finding times for the tests. I was worried that if I failed I would have had to wait until the next season. Nice that you got away with just 15k! Ride safe /Pontus
@@Checkyoursix77for the same reason Sweden has car theory tests in multiple languages:) Sweden is attracting foreign workforce from all over the world. Foreign licence becomes invalid after 1 year. 1 year is not enough to learn the language to the extent where I'm able to pass a theory test. While working full time and passing through other bureaucratic hurdles. I'm grateful to Sweden for the opportunities I have, and for the interpreter option, which is given for free. Just highlighting possible issues. The video is in English, so it's oriented to external audiences.
It wasn't crazy hard, but it sure was expensive in my case. I like to take my time when learning new things, so I came well prepared to all of the tests. Was quite nerve wracking tho.😂
Is it really that hard tough? Took my license at the minimum cost, dont remember but maybe 6000 sek ish? No lessons at all, own bike. Only "övningskörning" on street
/Pontus
Because they hate motorcyclists here in Sweden and is doing anything they can to limit riding. And if you fail on the test there’s no slots to retake the test since they’re fully booked. And if it’s been over a year you have to retake the written test. It’s bullshit ans I would recommend anyone who can to try and take the test in another eu country.
@@HeyAddieImTojo That’s not what anyone has said, just that if you fail there’s no chance of taking the test again. Are you saying that people should only get one shot at testing per year? And lol at that making bikers better here than anywhere else, I hear idiots going 250 kmh outside my window every night in the summer, so yeah right that hard tests make safer riders.
Thats kind of intimidating. Can't you say a little bit sugarcoated? Bro cmmon...a lot of us really wanna do this and this video is equally discouraging and encouraging at the same time!
That was the idea for the video. It’s a tough process BUT it’s still worth all the money, time and effort. When you get your license you will be so happy that you did it. It is truly freedom on two wheels. Good luck! 😃
1 i trafik.
Trafikregler. inga problem. Så man fick plugga en del. Sen kostar det extra pengar oxå.
@@Cloudberry84 precis min poäng. Just därför ska man göra teoriprovet igen.
