Nobody really cares because they're not disputing others territory. Of course America or other nations won't get involved. China, unlike Japan, is claiming a huge amount of territory of so many other nations, and to enforce their claim, they are building and expanding the islands. Of course this would get people interested and involved, because this is a conflict unlike Japan. For china to then try and identify what is and isn't a rock, despite they themselves using reclamation to enforce their territory, is hypocritical. There's no protest against Japan, because they're not building it on disputed land. There is protest and rightful resentment against china, because they are using these island claims in disputed territory to agressively further their agenda.
