Never even thought is was possible. Jason left Metallica because he wasn't allowed the freedom he needed as an artist. Can't see how anyone would think he would have that freedom in Megadeth. I'm sure joining Megadeth would've been even worse.

I am pretty sure he meant that he couldn't play long shows and a full tour with that intensity because of his injuries, he can still play all the music just not for 3 hour sets every night for months while running around stage, Newsted was/is a monster on stage 🤘

Why would anyone think that Jason would want to join Megadeth? It seems like dealing with Dave would be 10 times worse then when Jason had to deal with James. Besides he probably makes a hell of a lot more in Metallica royalties then Mustaine would ever pay him.

I stated it yesterday on Rockfeed, Newsted won't take shit, he and Mustaine will not click. There is a reason Mustaine was booted from Metallica and it was more than just alcohol/drugs, it was Mustaine's attitude. He was aggressive and violent. He admits it to Lars when he talked about breaking the guy's limb over bullying Lars. He had come to blows with Hetfield on more than one occasion; and even Kerry King talked about Mustaine's attitude and everyone agreed... ...It's funny, because if James or Lars says something, anything, they get hate, but, if anyone else says the exact same thing then everyone agrees. If James or Lars said "Mustaine is an asshole" then everyone gets mad and says "Fuck James and Lars, look how they treated Mustaine. That's why he is bitter." But, Kerry King says "Mustaine's an asshole" and everyone are like, "yeah, he is real metal shredder but he is a prick fuckin' asshole." Anyway, I called it. Newsted and Mustaine won't mix. Newsted's a straight shooter and Mustaine has a bad attitude that Newsted will not tolerate.

Jason is a beast of a bass player, I always loved his work with Metallica. However, for those who don't already know, he expressed that he is unable to play like that anymore. I'm sure when he was he'd be great for Megadeth, but not now. Rex Brown is also an incredible bass player, it would be cool if he played for Megadeth.

Mustaine is a scary guy. He's over 6 ft tall and holds black belts in martial arts. He used to be a drug dealer too so he's not the kind a guy you mess with. He'll literally kick your ass. He made the wrong decision with Junior though which has brought unnecessary attention to himself as well as the whole scandal which is now being blown out of all proportion. Should have kept quite and let it settle down. I still respect him as a guitarist and songwriter but he's difficult to work with. Just ask the dudes who've all passed thru his band. Its more than just drunk n drugs. The guy's a piece of work.

I know he's in TESTAMENT, but Steve DiGiorgio would be my pick. Or do something really wild and get Les Claypool!

I remember the Megadeth/Newsted thing in 2014, I believe Dave mustaine later put out a statement saying he had nothing to do with newsted not doing the shows.

This is a no brainer IMO. James LoMenzo is the guy for the job. Great guy and fantastic bass player. He recorded two great albums with Megadeth (United Abominations & Endgame). He already knows their past catalog as well from touring. He would be an easy transition for the band.

What happened between Jason & Dave to cause such a serious rift?? It could over something really petty. This whole situation is like a bad soap opera & takes the focus off the most important thing: the music.

Jason never said he cant play the bass anymore. What he said was he is getting older and cant get up there and thrash around and headbang for 2-3 hours every night like he did in the 80s and 90s when he was a young man.

I think that has more to do with Newsted pulling out of touring at that time. As Jason has stated in the past that the cost of keeping his band touring was costing hundreds of thousands of dollars out of pocket and for whatever reason, he didn’t want to make that investment. He may have been spending more than he had coming in. So I don’t think there was any bad blood between him and Mustaine, it was Jason withdrawing from touring.

Mustain has always been a difficult guy to work with and always will be!

Ellefson composed a lot of stuff when he was young that's hard for even him to play in his 50's. He was already struggling with it in his 40's when I talked to him. That's the downside of this type of music; it's not sustainable. It's the bright flame of youth that dies in middle age. This is particularly true of bassists, who have to do a lot more physical work than guitarists. It takes a bigger toll on your joints. There are songs I simply can't play any more due to arthritis and nerve damage. I also started getting hip, shoulder, elbow and back problems from playing down low and from playing in the seated position. I also started getting neck and head circulation problems from it when I played strapped up high because of my muscularity.

Just give it up! Rex Brown would be killer!

Chris Poland , Jeff Young , Chuck Behler , Marty Friedman , Nick Menza RIP , Al Pitrelli , Jimmy Degrasso , Glen Drover , Sean Drover , Chris Broderick . Even Ellefson had left the band once prior . If Dave tried to get Newsted he'd be "All your bass belong to me", meaning anything Jason wrote while in the band would be Megadeth property, he'd never go for that. It's the same reason Jeff Waters turned down Dave in the 80s, he wanted to own his own music and formed Annihilator instead. Jeff Waters > Dave Mustaine

I wouldn't join too if you're going to work with a big high profile guy/band but the royalties from previous job are already coming in for life. Remember that even if it pays bigger, it's not worth wasting your life working with toxic people. A lifelong peace of mind is one hell of a treasure.

Well just like Dave Ellefson, Jason plays with a pick. So he'd fit right into Megadeth and him and Dave Mustaine would complement each other perfectly in every possible way.

Working with mustaine seems like The most challenging thing in the world. He should be grateful ellefson stuck with him throughout the years.

Rex would be the best fit IF he had the health for it. He's laid back enough to keep attitudes at bay and even growing up basically as a PanterA member, he still chilled and stayed away from all the politics of it. But again, his health just ain't up there.

The Soundwave thing is not quite right. It was the side shows that Newsted wasn’t going to be on due to issues with the promoter ( resulting in both band’s withdrawals from the actual festival)

The best part about Newstead not playing Soundwave was they were replaced on the bill at last minute by local band @RedBee and they were amazing.

Jason and Megadeth? To hell with that. I want to see Jason collaborating with Ellefson and Frank Bello for Altitudes and Attitudes.

It’s going to be a revolving door of bass players from now on and every one will be the best Dave has ever played with. It’ll be even more frequent than the guitar players.
