The hatred for this show is so forced. It all seems like it’s born out of a strange morality policing reminiscent of the satanic panic of the late 80s and 90s. I can’t recall a more mistaken piece of art in recent memory. It reminds me of Charlie Days’ stale Hollywood satire in Fools Paradise. I dont know how many times people have to tell you all that Jennie signed up for the series when there was a female director. Sam and his changes came later on when she was already under contract. Not to mention dropping out could have gotten her blacklisted from Hollywood. Or she just doesn't care either way.
@@somelikeitposh no stop lying...she wasn't part of the original cast she begged sam Levinson to be a part of it. And she can read the script beforehand
It's sad that the show actually had SO MUCH potential to be good. The message that lily's highlighting truly needs to be talked about (idols getting exploited by companies, idols getting replaced after any messups, idols dealing with both mental and physical issues, idols getting homesick and missing their families etc.), but ofc they had to add those meaningless rape scenes/dialouges that no one asked for. Lily's pov should've been the main point of that script.
I can’t believe people were complaining about the dancing?! That’s the most PG13 part of the show. 😅 it’s also has a reason for the story. It’s a social satire of female pop stars exposing their young “tween” fanbases to hyper sexuality, and how record labels will package this sexuality and sell it to children. They literally say in the show her demographic is 14 year old girls with a straight face….that’s the joke!!!! People didn’t get that?! Media literacy is at an all time low. 😐
Because they don't want to actually give a good message. These shows have their own agenda. The more time goes on, the darker it get's, to make perversion the new normal. They don't even do it subconsciously anymore, they want to desensitize people to topics like r*pe. It is reversed psychology right there. They pretend to then manipulate.
@@nameisamine you can say that again, media literacy is literally at an all time low. ppl have really deluded themselves into thinking art is supposed to teach us moral lessons. it's no wonder that cultural products are so stale right now. it's ironic cos in their attempts to (performatively) consume only 'good moral' art, today's consumers have been duped into glossing over any mildly uncomfortable piece of media that tries to make these consumers confront their complicity in the exploitative culture industry. judging by the hysterical discourse around a show (that has yet to even conclude), it seems ppl think a show about the evils of the pop culture industry should be peachy clean and all girl boss fantasies. and mind u, these will be the same ppl who will be the loudest endlessly waxing poetic about a celebrity suicide.
The irony is that there was another writer who was going to make Lilys character main, solely focused on her, but The Weekend just had to replace her with Sam and that god awful Tedros character😂🙄🫤
i know jennie is an adult and she knows what she’s doing, but considering that most of her fans are minors truly worries me 😭 my little sister is 13yo and she was about to watch the serie because of jennie until i told her it wasn’t appropriate for her age, i had the luck that i’m constantly checking out what is my sister watching on the internet but i know there are many minors out there who aren’t supervised by their parents and are watching this kind of series because of their favorite singers
Their song are all about bullying other women, kids should not listen to BP, in my opinion no one should listen to them, if you know someone who like them you know that you should not be friend with her, only bullies and mean girls like BP.
@@Devi_Seona So i'm a bully for liking Blackpink now 😢😢 welp at least i'm not as judgmental as you. Judging someone based on their music taste only is a bigger red flag than listening to Blackpink. Also they have never bullied other women or anyone in their songs, they had like one song with poor lyrics choice (Typa Girl) but their 40 other songs are fine so you're just reaching.
"Certain people can run poison in your life so watch out who you surround yourself with." Is a good message even if the show did an awful job writing it. It also summarise how I feel about Jennie. I feel like the more she surrounds herself to these famous stars, the more she will emulate them, hence, why I think she accepted this role. Everything you said about her is perfectly said. I find shows like these trashy and vulgar, and I don't think Jennie would need them. However, I also think she is grown and probably chose it to break free from this image that she is pure and innocent. Either way, I don't care what decisions she make. It won't change my view of her since I'm not her fan and never will be.
Break free from an innocent image? To me, personally, it seems that that’s the exact opposite of her true intentions. She often times reminds her fans of how shy she truly is, and how truly scared she can be in public situations. I think this role fits in with her Blackpink image and it has nothing to do with her personal life, other than the desire to work with Levinson. Which is completely understandable for someone her age and industry. Euphoria was undeniably stunning and artistic to watch.
@@Evute02 you also forgot the fact euphoria is sexualizing minors and it was made by the same person. The acting saves it but let's not ignore the fact there are actresses in euphoria asking levinson to delete some nude scenes cuz they were uncomfortable and they called him a creep
@@mammonsimp6973 I didn't watch Euphoria but I believe it supposed to tell the reality of drugs and trauma. But from what I hear on the news, it seem like it also goes against their own messages with their actors by overly sexualizing them. It makes it seem like the directors are stuck with showing the "horrors of drugs, sex and trauma" while forgetting the actors are human. Anyway, I'll never watch Euphoria cause I can't stand overly done nudity.
@@mammonsimp6973 I understand your point. However, Jennie likely put her focus into his artistry and work itself, not the allegations or controversies associated with him, since she is herself an artist and in the industry. Ultimately, it was her desire and her choice to be part of the project regardless. So, what she saw is what she got. As far as I’m aware (please tell me if I’m wrong) Jennie was casted before Levinson had even entered the picture, so can we really blame her for making the best of the situation she and her fellow cast were put in?
Her (and others) experience on set was probably fantastic, considering her commentary. In the end, she got to make friends and be part of something as much as anyone else. There is so much we pick up from rumours and allegations to use against particular people these days that there is no open discussion or real discourse about the project. Yeah, show sucks either way (like the majority nowadays) but the people involved are at such a centre of focus that the show itself seems like a shadow rather than the entire point lol. It’s all so one-sided and negative. You see what i mean?
WHY DID JENNIE EVEN AGREE TO BE WITH THAT TRASH DIRECTOR. Some jennie fans are still saying 'omg she is an adult she can do WHATEVER she wants.' Yeah but this is such a vulgar thing. Also why does she like Sam, like from what she said it seems like she and Sam have talked. Like bro what? Sorry but Sam is a bad director. She is a grown woman and im sure she wasn't god dang forced to be in this show. She could have left but i suppose she wants to be in this crap show. I agree alot with you, same opinion as i do.
Jennie wasnt originally part of the cast she was casted by sam after they had a brief discussion this all was confirmed by jennie herself in that interview .in fact jennie wanted to be on the show bec she did like sam's few works. So no she wasnt forced or anything and she won't leave it either bec oviously it doesnt make sense since she already had talked with sam regarding this project. Personally i think she probably took the project to build up strong connection in the industry i mean if the story wasnt bad n all she would have blown up even more. Even now she already got tons of attention and as some say there is no such thing as negative publicity. Just think after this exposure if she managed to land a better role fans would most probably forget about this one or something.
@@syminreed3922 that’s the problem, fans don’t take this seriously as they should. jennie should start taking these vulgar roles if she leaves the group AKA removing her from her cute bubbly idol image completely. she cant have her cake and eat it too. korea being a conservative country means she either stays in blackpink and stays bubbly and cute, or leaves and does whatever the hell she wants. back in korea, this show is affecting her group negatively. if she wants to act in a vulgar show she should think of her members who are also getting negative attention from her actions and make the right decision.
@@cherinyu_shes bringing the groups image down by taking this vulgar role, she needs to make a decision because at this point blackpink is either disbanding, going inactive, or just descending into fire because... this isnt working. 😭 it feels slightly selfish to me.
I can't believe that Jennie tolerated a script that says " being rape-y is cool" She knows her English well and she is a grown woman, and she knows her audience would be her fans who some are minor. She should hold some accountability for this instead of her fans blaming it all to production. At the end of the day, she agreed to this slutty, rape-y enthusiast role, for fame or money maybe? still an L choice for sure.

No she shouldn't. She's an adult and she's allowed to participate in the media she wants to act in. You people don't know what 'accountability' is because you're like 15 years old at best and shouldn't be watching adult content in the first place.

Lily rose depp is doing great in the minuscule parts that are not porn. Her acting had huge potential to show and highlight the struggles of a female singer in the music industry. And honestly I don't even know what to say about Jennie. Her acting is decent I guess but this role... I'm not sure about why in this whole wide world she decided to take this role. I'm just genuinely curious. And that pathetic excuse of a singer (not Jennie but the misogynistic one) should go rot in hell.
Not defending Jennie, because she verbally defended Sam Creepinson, but the contract problem is not between her and the show. It's between her and her company. Korean laws are very lax about contracts, so idol management companies are the opposite. Company want company do.
I read that the emotional scenes Lily did that people like, are the ones that were filmed by the female director, who was making a thought provoking show and not an incel fantasy.
I actually read somewhere that Jennie got casted AFTER the female writer and director got fired.. So she probably knew the script that got rewritten by Sam Levinson and TheWeeknd

The day people stop glorifying the western culture ( sex, drugs, booze), the beauty of art would emerge. Jennie accomplished everything by herself and she should be proud of them. Rather than pleasing the western world , all artists should focus on promoting their own country and culture. Even Bollywood people lost their creativity and credibility due to such western fetishes.
Western culture and sexualization of female celebrities in particular is disgusting people don’t look at talent they look at how little they are wearing and acts they do 🤦♀️
Sex, drugs, and alcohol isn’t a feature unique to ‘western culture’. It’s no surprise that since Hollywood and other western companies have such influence, of course other countries are going to imitate them.
Nowadays role's like Jennie's are considered cool and the actors get a lot of attention (she did get it but in a negative way) cuz of such roles maybe that could be a reason she didnt back off from this show or maybe cuz she is entering Hollywood or maybe its western validation. Personally I didnt like Jennie's acting, I didnt get any villain vibes from her while delivered that line(I know its her first time in acting she will definitely improve if she takes more acting projects). On a positive side her expressions while dancing were really good. I dont have any problem with that sexual step she did but yeah a lot of blinks are minor.
she literally did nothing and her role was a joke that anyone could fill. I blame that more on the director and producers (not Jennie before yall come for me) because they wanted Jennie from blackpink to advertise not an actress.

The show was originally meant to show the exploitation of women in the music industry, but it turned into exactly what it was trying to demonise. The original director was fired when 80 percent of the film had been completed, so they had to completely start from the beginning with a new head director. The OG director was fired because she was making the perspectives too ‘womanly’. Under her control, the script went into detail about the cult and less significant characters, which added depth to the storyline. It also apparently showed Jocelyn to be more of a victim of exploitation (rather than the official version, where she literally was very open to the idea of being used).
Yeah I mean lead actress is a bit much. Her acting abilities aren’t very good but I see potential that she can improve. But I agree any other show would’ve been better for her debut
4:47 I do not think it’s unfair because of the fact that she willingly acted in a tv show that praises and idolizes rape, misogyny, S/A, and the list goes on. also, she literally said that she’s a fan of Sam’s work, and that even when she knew that the show was going to be like this she decided to play part of it and insisted Levin-whatever his name is to add her.
I wouldn’t make a big deal about praising a director or producer’s work. What else is she going to say? She can’t criticize because she runs the risk of being blackballed or coming off as having a big ego. Her role on the show is so minor that people will forget about this in a few months.
Do you expect her to talk badly about him in a interview? When victorious was airing all the actors said positive things about the director, when the show ended the actors spoke about how shitty the director was. Another huge example is dove cameron, she used to talk positively about disney when she worked with them and when she left she also spoke negative about disney. It's not something difficult to grasp

Preach. Only two episodes have been released and right from the get-go, thing aren’t looking too good for the actresses that are apart of this show. People love to speak on Jennie’s regards and how this show is doing nothing to give her a morale boost, instead it’s tarnishing the idol persona that she’s always been known for since the start of her career. However, I’d like to speak more about Lily. Her dad is arguably one of, if not the most renowned actor, and yet all she gets to do is to play some exploited bimbo in a soft-corn show? As if this isn’t the worst female lead script that she could’ve received, but she had to act along side someone like The Weeknd as well? People are surprised Jennie's company didn't pull her from the project entirely, since kpop idols have such strict rules with what they can say/be involved in, etc. And I feel like that's even more telling of her as a person & and how much she's gotten caught up with the seemingly glamorous but actually disturbing nature of this industry the moment BP gained fame in the west. But it's literally not just her - it's a problem with all of the actors, and they should be held accountable for partaking in this shit.
I mean how do Blackpink's current or new contract look like? They could all leave YG and have successful solo careers based on their insta following (70mil+) alone. So I think they must have more freedoms than they used to have.

for people saying "its not idol's prblm kids are watching the show", main thing is we see kpop agencies debuting even 13-14 year olds as idols, and for that they need to be trainee even before that age, so ofc younger kids are gonna be part of their target audience even if in small %age and when idols take part in individual projects those kids will automatically watch that. So it should be the responsibility of agencies to decide the target audience for their kpop grps not like at times they are doing kids stuff and then completely straight up adult shit and parents should be equally responsible for what their kids are watching.
i agree. its not just jennie, its every celebrity who should be held responsible for what they decide to participate in, especially if they have younger fans. "they do whatever they want" shouldn't be an arguement here, since kpop fandoms usually consist of underage people, who can easily be influenced. i also agree with your point, that if they were aiming for a younger audience originally, they shouldn't be surprised that people are shocked and disappointed over a role like this.
you're wrong, it should be the responsibilities of the parents, besides the show is r rated, the parents should teach the kids that r rated shows is not for kids
I watched only the first epi and every lead actor acted awfully apart from LRD. Like I had the least acceptation from her but that she acted decently. That was my last epi from this series. And I think jeenie choose to be on the show because she thought it would be something like euphoria where every character became so popular that they all went to the top and she needed west validation and didn't care about the msg it's carrying. Very few actor think about the script msg and feel responsible for possible impact on their followers. And jeenie isn't one of them.
If you would have said this this a month ago I would have fight with you with my whole soul. Now when I heard she decided to be on the show in a dinner with weekend I realize everything she dose isn't controlled by yg. She choose everything and yg don't control her. So there's no way I can defend her. She's facing consequences for her bad choices just like she get praised for her gd choices.
People need to come to grips with the fact that Jennie wanted this And that regardless of what she did, People have no idea who these people are and what motivates them Branding
And plenty of women have broken into Hollywood without associating themselves with people like sam A role like this is not necessary to get into Hollywood
Spoken as a non-blackpink stan: I think people are overreacting with their "she destroyed everything bp has built up" or "i don't like her anymore after this". I think this show had potential when it was still about the female point of view, but we all know that's history now. I personally highly dislike the show, but that doesn't make me hate jennie or troye or whoever else. Like please ... some people really should act like adults or touch some grass.
First part I agree. She hasn't destroyed BP's rep. People forget that Jennie is not the most famous member everywhere the way she is in Korea. Yes she's big but the other BP members are also big. They'll be fine. I do disagree with your second point though. If people don't like Jennie anymore after this, that's their right. I personally find her less appealing as a celeb to follow now too. Not because of her doing some adult role but because she knew the type of show she was getting into and this show is extremely problematic. It's also why Abel has also fallen from my graces (more so than Jennie, he's actually vile for this).
Nah girl i think that since bp have ALOT more younger fans and minors,,…… this can actually influence them. Since shes one of the it girls there. But anyways yeah wtv
@@pinkxcute Hey! Maybe I came across wrong. Everyone's feeling about this situation is valid, so I don't want to invalidate your or someone else's opinion. I just wanted to make clear that malicious hate towards her and other actors involved are unfair.
Great review! the hate jennie is receiving is so unnecessary BUT as much as I love her, I think people are allowed to be disappointed. just not put it out publicly in a hateful and revolting manner. disappointment can be portrayed online via constructive and polite criticism. now you might say "oh jennie doesn't give af about YOUR disappointment" which is true. but still, as a free human being, we are allowed to be, provided that our public display of it doesn't cross certain lines. moving on, the reason I'm disappointed is that, no matter what blinks tell us, no jennie did not read the original script. she wasn't even IN the original cast when there was a female director. she was casted in AFTER Sam was made director and produced a new script. it was SAMS decision to cast pop stars and influencers (jenie, troye sivan). so yes, jennie read a script about an oversexualised, misogynistic, creepy, problematic, gross show, in which she has little to no importance (other than being someone jocelyn sees as a competition) and agreed to be in it. there is no message or symbolism or metaphor her character portrays other than "pretty asian girl who's good at everything the mc isn't". maybe as the show progresses we'll see more depth to her character? but as for now, there is absolutely NO reason for jennie to have agreed to be on this show. especially since her character gets no more than 5 minutes of screentime (the third episode is out as of my writing this, and she gets 10 seconds of screentime 😐). jennie, as an actress and as a human being, has so much more to give and portray and the idol is ruining it for her, and the fact that SHE chose it, just makes matters worse..
I see your point but reason why some people hate her is cause of Jennie has a lot of minor fans who might watch the show and it too sexual she said some thing she shouldn’t have said but blinks ignore it and praise her for her facial expressions and moaning sounds it messed up an disturbing I expected more from Jennie she supposed to be a role model all idols are to fans but now I see why she the most hated K-pop idol
@@HeidiAndrea-mp8oe I don’t even like black pink, but she literally owes nobody an explanation she’s a grown woman. If she wants that western validation, let her try to get it.
@@Steph489 if she grown leave her to solve her issues don’t be the one to make excuses for her she imature and reckless jisoo is and adult and behaves like one why can’t jennie
@@HeidiAndrea-mp8oe calling her an adult is not excusing her. It’s a literal fact the bitch is grown. If young kids watch it, it’s on their parents. She wants to promote herself as a sex object to fit into the Hollywood crowd. That’s on her. I truly am understanding why they call K-pop Stans crazy. She’s not the only person in the show, saying, and doing sexual things. But it’s wrong because she’s a K-pop idol and she has an image to maintain y’all are crazy 😂😂
I just love it when Blinks create a narrative that completely clears Jennie of any and all responsibility..Even if I accept the claim that the director was changed and the original story was scrapped in favor of this much sluttier version, I think Jennie should not be completely exonerated..She is afterall an adult with not only a massive following but also a major company behind her, and so when she saw that the show was turning out different from what she originally signed up for, she should have taken measures to not only release herself from further involvement in the show, but also have the scenes she has already filmed scrapped from the show that will be aired..I understand that she has very little say in the production of the show, that the choreography (which tbh was downright p*rn) and script (which also sounds like something out of p*rn) was outside of her jurisdiction, but she did not have to participate in either if she did not want to..This show is vulgar and trashy and I really do not understand why she associated herself with it in the first place..She clearly could have done so much better..I know that getting out of contract can be difficult, esp one in which I assume a huge amount of money was involved, but it should not be impossible, esp if some misinformation or deception was involved..I think her decision to be in the show is stupid at the very least and possibly downright irresponsible and selfish..I know she is a grown woman and should be able to make decisions for herself, but she should have also taken into account how this show will affect not only her band’s image and its members but also her fans, many of whom are actually minors..I know many would claim that the fans voicing their objection to this just want to control her so that she can remain the sweet innocent girl in their perverse fantasy, but I assure you, those fans are few and far between..BP’s concept is girl crush and their group targets to appeal to young girls and women who wish to identify with strong female role models, which is why this move by Jennie is really disappointing..Blinks who think she would be losing out if she steps down from the show are belittling her and overrating the show..The show is trash and she won’t be getting a lot from trash unless they recycle it into compost..The show just used her for clout..Tbh, I don’t think whatever she is getting out of it (be it attention or money or a foot into Hollywood) is worth what she possibly gambling away (right now she is already receiving a lot of backlash particularly in Asia which tbh makes up the majority of Kpop fandoms)..Blinks should stop coddling her and call it what it is..She should admit she made a wrong turn and course correct before she completely derails..
Even if she willingly act in corn people will be “corn script is bad but Jennie slayyed😍😍” “she was forced to do it” “YG didn’t protect our baby🥺🥺” “she doesn’t have the choice, she had to do it😭”
It’s not something new , shows are just becoming worse and worse everyday and they’re losing it’s actual meaning of art and tragedy .. even for an adult it’s uncomfortable to watch too much sexual behavior .. it’s always 50% sexual scenes 20% romanticizing drugs and alcohol addiction ( even for f*ing minors) 20% overly repetitive propaganda things 10% of the actual story
Not gonna lie, if the original director wasn't replaced I think the series could've make a way better impact on Jennie's career. Edit: so it turns out that the og ensemble didn't include jennie at all
i was gonna watch it bc of jennie and then i was scrolling down on yt shorts for fun then i saw a clip of this 6:47 dance and i really felt super disgusted and decided not to watch it now ill watch it later THEN I SAW THIS VIDEO AND I REALLY NEVER WANT TO EVEN THINK TO WATCH IT, BRO YOU SAVED MY LIFE THANK YOU
Jennie smoked some weed to accept to this role, or she is a fan of Euphoria and she thought that this show would be good as well. But she probably doens't know that Euphoria season 1 is a remake, so Sam don't deserve be praise by anything in terms of writting (season 2 is the prove, garbage), only the cinematography is something that he do well.
WAIT WTF EUPHORIA IS A REMAKE???!!!! geez am getting to know about this now 😂😂😂 anyway coming to your statement jennie did mention in an interview that she actually is a fan of some levinson's work so maybe thats why beside am pretty sure she knew this would give a huge exposure and connection to the industry which would be useful for future work in Hollywood.
good review, thank you KC. jennie second handedly promoting rap* is fvcked up. i was in the entertainment industry in my teens and did receive severe sexual harassment, i still struggle ptsd in my adulthood. at the time, i thought it was something i had to tolerate. it's sad that this kind of show will make young girls/boys to think that tolerating rap* and sexual harassment is a good/cool thing + way to become a star. i think jennie hasn't experience rap* or sexual harassment in her career since she is well protected in this privileged huge company YG. i mean, good for her, i'm glad she didn't experience it, but it's a shame that it made her incompassionate towards millions of girls who actually get traumatized in the misogynistic r*pist friendly industry. billions of young girls/boys look up to her, and YES it's just a show and not a documentary, but shows do shape people's perception of the world, especially young people. i hope other super famous idols with massive influence will have morals + consider the consequences of what they promote.
I think you guys are forgettting something. Jennie has always been potrayed as the baddie. She's always been the villain, the femme fattale, she was never seen as the cute girl, she has always been seen as the sexy diva and people have continously treated her as a maddona archetype who is two faced, untrustworthy. Therefore, From the outside looking in, i don't understand why everyone is suprised jennie chose to play the exact CHARACTER SHE'S BEEN MADE TO LOOK HER ENTIRE LIFE.
She is a k-pop idol not a western Idol...but Jennie want's Hollywood validation through this. Lol..... She better be in western things ....Her sexy in picture didn't clearly mean letting women in particular down....but this is a series and many are watching which is too much for even an adult..... Koreans are not very touchy physically like this , they don't fuck anyone on their first date or meeting bruh......and Jennie as a character did all 😂😂😂...lamao the hate was evident and couldn't believe she really praised the director 😂
That's honestly what I was thinking too! I thought it's Lisa who has that cute aegyo bubbly girl image and so it really didn't surprise me that Jennie took this role.
I personally don't see the problem with her acting sexy. What i find problematic is agreeing to work on a show that glorifies r*pe and does downright torture p*rn and just degrading towards women. And especially with how she joined the show after Levinson🤮 took over and agreed to work with him because she's a fan of his work. Dude is a serios creep who likes to humiliate women in his movies that look like his mom. Maybe she thought it would be a good idea because it would get her name out there in hollywood but it's just an icky and questionable debut choice
no gives a damn about the character she playing in the grand scheme of things, they care about the fact she not only is a fan of sam levinson’s work but she also chose to be in a show like this knowing what it’s about
4:57 the last sencence in this comment actually hits hard. Jennie can do what she wants but begin part of a girl group that main audience is young girls and playing such an objectifying role is really irresponsible.
Everything you said was so true. I myself am I minor. I just saw Jennie was having a show coming out called idol. I thought it would be about the life journey of an idol and how they got their through hard work. I wasnt expecting that tho. Also im always used to seeing the funny goofy side of you so when you got serious right here it shocked me.
while i agree that jennie taking part in this raised my eyebrow, people saying she dragged blackpink’s name into dirt are overreacting. she still brings a lot of attention to her group, this is a mere minor role and she’s doing pretty well for a first time actor. i just hate the whole premise and the change of plot, sam and the daysoftheweek who can’t act to save his life.
If this was the attention then I don’t think she should’ve bothered because this attention is ugly and disgusting! I just pray Lisa leaves that group as fast as possible, you have no idea how this will hurt blackpink as a group
It's obvious Jennie wasn't forced to do this. She obviously also knows the consequences of taking that role. So whatever happening to her, I'm not saying she deserves it, but I'm saying she was asking for it. So I don't get why people would even bother defending her and even victimizing her by saying she was forced to do it. She's clearly just doing what she wanted, so if you like it then watch it, if don't like it then ignore it. There's no point hating her.
I actually hate it when kpop idols act like child, cute and innocent like they don’t understand anything when they are not. Every kpop group do this. I don’t know what's the problem of showing their true personality. Don’t they feel fake? I was into kpop before but not anymore beacause I felt It was destroying my mind. Korean ridiculous beauty standard, visual (they considered it as talent) and many more. If I leave a comment like I don’t like this song I was expected more.. the whole fandom will come to eat me. It's not normal anymore. Glad I got out from this.
Jennie is asking for criticism at this point. The show being 21+ isn't the problem, the problem is this show is trashy af. She probably has so many opportunities but chose THIS?!?! yeah she is a grown woman that's why she needs to hold accountable.
Ikr. Like u can’t say “she’s an adult and can do what she wants” and then say “I think it isn’t a bit of her fault bc she wasn’t fully aware” she can’t be a grown woman and a naive kid at the same time. Truth is she is an adult and she should be more aware of the decisions she makes, and be held accountable for the wrongdoings. And I’m not her hater, I’ve been a fan of bp and her since 2017, but some fans needs to stop defending her over everything.
@@hmmmk7630 it’s not just this series, it’s most of the Hollywood series nowadays, it’s all becoming pretty bad, they’re either about romanticising drugs, s*x, misogyny, mental illnesses, there’s not many good Hollywood shows or movies these days
When I first saw a post saying it was "worse than euphoria" I knew enough. I watch euphoria for the Rue timeline, the other actors,...what they make them do (nude/sx scenes) is way to much for supposedly "high schoolers".
i have no problems with the nudity, vulgarity, problematic lines and explicit content. i think it's absolutely fine for shows to have all those things. i think the idol made it extremely clear that it was going to be about that and that the show really isn't for children. i don't think they did anything wrong here by deciding to include those problematic lines or the sexually explicit content. my issue is that's it all done extremely poorly. it's unwatchable. those shocking lines, explicit scenes and their shock value are literally the only memorable thing about the show apart from the weeknd's strange acting performance :( i 100% agree that firing the previous director was the biggest mistake. turning it into a male gaze fantasy ruined all the potential it had and absolutely "single-handedly destroyed the show". you can see the potential and it's just infuriating when you see what became of it. i genuinly don't understand why lily-rose depp and jennie decided to stick around.
there is a line for everything , the script is so bad , the show at times too cringy to watch plus too much non necessary nudity and porn is still bad even for an adult
@@pinkpeonies__ I think y'all just choose Whom You should hate. Jennie is not got 1minute Screentime in 3 episodes combine. She's literally carrying that Show despite having No lines
First Jisoo's lead role debut, now Jennie's acting debut - both shows caused controversies. I don't understand why they're not being cautious while shifting from their kpop idol life to a career like acting which is more open to public scrutiny. And to know that it’s their own personal choices & not the company's to choose these projects just makes it messier. Like you're still only in your 20s when you're entering into acting. You basically have your whole life ahead to take up challenges to act in 'controversial' projects. So in your early stages of acting career, your goal should be to establish the fact that you can actually act. Your focus should not be to show everyone how 'different/versatile' you are from the cute idol image being set up by your company. It also should not be wise to stir up uproars among general public/viewers/own countrymen so early on.
@lluvs4noo I am not familiar with Korean politics or history but apparently Snowdrop portrayed misinformation regarding history of North & South Korea, therefore many South Korean tv outlets banned it from airing on their channels, netizens were angry about it etc...
Great review with balanced points of view. Please keep going! (Because honestly, I don't want to watch shows like this. But I want to hear objective opinions.)
I know it was Jennies choice but dan YG could protect her and tell her to go for a safer debut role and seires. A kdrama would be lit Jisoo made it big as an actress already with Snowdrop.
YG has absolutely no power when it comes to decisions like Hollywood. They might have suggested her not to go we don't know but at the end it's Jennie's decision whether to go or not. YG can't hold her back against her for western movies or series. They might have some power when it comes to kdrama but definitely not for anything outside Korea.
Thank you for covering this, I'm really loving the commentary and hot takes lately. I absolutely love your songs and skits, but I enjoy the break down of topics like this. As a western born person, our media is saturated...no, it's drowning in everything being sexualized all the time. From hamburgers to cars, everything here is based on the phrase, "sex sells". So I am confused why she was getting such backlash from a movie roll. I do get it now, but I was a bit like "Who cares? It's a character in a movie....." I hope everything equalizes for the cast and they can move on from this disaster of a show! 😅
No i don't think she is a victim in this situation, she know what she is getting into but i think she thought this would be hit because of the similar aspects of euphoria. Please stop trying portray her as a victim when no one know what goes on behind. And its pathetic you trying to do this only because of the hate if she was praised for the role, you wouldn't throw a pity party
Me being a Jennie stan didn't even watch the shoe but non fans are watching the show to criticise her is crazy, if the show is so bad then don't watch it as simple as that Antis slutshaming her for this is disgusting.
Worst show ever🫣 I was expecting it to be bad but not THAT bad and disgusting at the same time Weeknd is so uncomfortable and creepy I can’t even watch photos from set lol Such a good review btw! 🙏🏼💞
Yea, this thing about BP. First I saw Lisa in some reality show which she become a trainer and she is so different. Now is Jennie. So, its true, they are faking their personality to be fit in KPop industry.
Jennie got this role without yg's help. She signed sam levinson's script. Its also interesting to note that she has been a fan of the weekend and is close friends with his girlfriend. Her and LRD are also chanel models. So i think its obvious why she chose the role. But it also shows how weak her morals are. Its disgusting. The backlash she is receiving is very valid but i think she is dismissing it thinking its just double standards of kpop industry when in reality the show is HIGHLY PROBLEMATIC. She is celebrating the show posting pictures and doing interviews. Its even more crazy to see fans defending her and spreading fake stories about how she signed the original script when its not the truth. She was casted by sam levinson. Honestly its every pathetic on her part i hope she realizes how disgusting and problematic this show was but i doubt cause she is happy in her own bubble and probably thinks she did a great job. Some one said it in the comments that once you lose respect its very difficult to earn it back and i have lost all my respect towards her. She is also extremely problematic I think thats why she didnt find any problems with this show.
I only watch Jennies part on tiktok. Also SHE was the one who said okay to it not YG. Jennie didn’t need this for her image n YG wouldn’t put her to it themselves. It was her conscious choice to do it.
I watched just the initial 2 episodes that too hitting the fast forward button a gazillion times. The show legit made me feel sick in my gut. We understand when someone wants to portray the dark side of something. But this show didn't have just a dake side it was dark to the core! Not something you expect someone as popular as Jennie to get into. Many anti-fans have been pointing out it's just what Jennie wants to do in this phase of life. She wants to get rid of the perfect cover girl image and portray herself as more mature and bold I guess. I also discovered the concept of yachting wherein individuals who wanna land better opportunities end up sleeping with so called influential ppl who in return give them a gig to climb the ladder of money, power and fame. According to the sources of yachting, girls specially choose to promote themselves in an overly sexualized way so that they can let potential connections know they are open for business. The way Jennie had been seeing partying and twerking at concerts, it surely does point in that way. But who am I to judge? Maybe it's just her preference to conduct herself in that manner which in a way is the reality of the world of fame. These are just things I have observed, I am in no way implying it as a fact.
As an American I love how wholesome and uplifting K-Pop is. American entertainment is sliding into vulgarity. Jenny should have known better and should make better choices going forward
if you read the articles she has already signed a contract with a different script mind you she signed a contract so that means she would have to have paid millions if she chose to break it off. The weekend changed everything! There are many theories once again it's her life she is an adult let her make her own decisions at this point she has received so much hate even before the show so it really doesn't make much of a difference
Very good review! You took the words right out of my mouth also a side note: I really love the direction your channel is taking ^-^ keep up the good work!
i read somewhere, i think the concept of kpop idol in Korea is to be an inspiration for young generation, so kpop have that kind of strict "rule" like you have to respect your senior, focus on your career and work hard, so young generation can see the idol as their role model and they can learn good attitude. so in this series i see that the idol is from different culture (west culture) and i think this "comparation" didnt match (sorry for my bad english), and about jennie, is she representing the kpop in this series??, i think its not :D let her do whatever she wants because she is grown woman, as adult kpop fans i think we must protect this kind of content from other minor kpop fans by giving reminder
Lily can actually she is like actually good and most of the supporting cast as well but I don't think most of those supporting cast people will be promoting bcoz of the problematic messaging
In my opinion the idol is not good is vulgar and obscene, the only reason Jennie was in the idol was because she is friends with the girl dating the weekend. The weekend and Jennie acting is not good. Jennie new exactly what she was doing fame got in to her head sad to say it but it’s true since when did Jennie wanted to act? I saw an interview where she said she wanted to be a professional ballerina and she loves ballet why because at the time she was dating Kai? And now an actress why? Because she is dating V what the hell and then I saw an interview where she said she is shy that she is shy when speaking English Jennie has a fake personality and is so sad that people don’t see that but oh well 😂😂😂
