Careful study shows that three "heavens" are actually discussed in the Bible. One is God's dwelling place-the place of His throne-and the heaven where the resurrected Jesus is today. Speaking of Christ, who is our High Priest, the Bible says, "We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens" (Hebrews 8:1). Heaven is specifically called God's dwelling place (Deuteronomy 26:15). The apostle Paul calls this heaven the "third heaven" (2 Corinthians 12:2)-showing, as noted, that there are two others. It's described as the "third" because, being in the spirit realm, it is beyond the other two, which are in the physical realm. Another heaven discussed in the Bible, second in proximity to us, is what we call outer space. It is the domain of the moon, planets, comets, asteroids, sun and stars. David spoke of this when he reflected on the awesomeness of God's creative handiwork, which he described as "Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained" (Psalm 8:3). Many scriptures mention "the stars of heaven" (Genesis 26:4; Deuteronomy 1:10; Deuteronomy 28:62; Isaiah 13:10). Yet another heaven, closest to us in proximity, is the envelope of air that surrounds our planet, consisting of oxygen and other gases. This heaven-earth's atmosphere-is mentioned in such passages as Genesis 7:11-12, which describes the great flood of Noah's day: "The windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights." The Bible also speaks of "the birds of heaven," those that fly overhead (Job 35:11; Jeremiah 16:4). To determine which heaven is meant in a Bible passage, we must carefully consider the context. God had earlier told Elijah he was to anoint a man named Elisha as a prophet to succeed him (1 Kings 19:16). Later, as the two men walked together, Elijah said to Elisha, "What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?" (2 Kings 2:9). This led to a discussion of God's gifts to Elisha that would allow him to fill Elijah's role. "Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven" (2 Kings 2:11). Elijah was now gone. The former followers and students of Elijah were now to look to Elisha as their new leader. "Now when the sons of the prophets who were from Jericho saw him, they said, 'The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha'" (2 Kings 2:15). Many readers assume that Elijah at that point was made immortal and taken to the heaven where God resides. This was not the case. The sons of the prophets knew otherwise. They knew the whirlwind had simply removed Elijah to another location on earth. They exclaimed to Elisha: "Look now, there are fifty strong men with your servants. Please let them go and search for your master, lest perhaps the Spirit of the Lord has taken him up and cast him upon some mountain or into some valley" (2 Kings 2:16). The disciples were concerned for Elijah's safety, so they sent out a party of 50 men to search for him. The 50 searched for three days but did not find him (2 Kings 2:17). Another passage proves conclusively that Elijah was not taken up to live in heaven. The Bible records that Elijah wrote a letter to Jehoram, the king of Judah, several years after he was removed in the whirlwind. Notice the sequence of events recorded for us in the Bible. Elijah's last recorded and dated act occurred during the reign of the Israelite king Ahaziah when Elijah told the king he would die for his sins (2 Kings 1:3-17). Ahaziah's reign lasted only about a year, ca. 850 B.C. Elijah's removal and replacement by Elisha is then recorded in the next chapter, 2 Kings 2. The story continues with incidents from Elisha's life, including an encounter with Jehoshaphat, king of Judah (2 Kings 3:11-14). Several years later Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat, succeeded his father as king of Judah, ca. 845 B.C. (2 Kings 8:16). Jehoram proved to be a wicked king, leading the nation of Judah in rebellion against God's commandments. A few years into Jehoram's reign, and several years after Elijah's removal, Jehoram received a letter from Elijah warning the king of dire consequences because of his sins. This letter is recorded in 2 Chronicles 21:12-15. This letter proves that the prophet was still alive and on earth some years after he was removed by the whirlwind and replaced by Elisha. God had chosen Elisha to succeed Elijah as His prophet, so He bodily removed Elijah to another place, where he continued to live for at least several more years-as his letter to Jehoram demonstrates. The Bible tells us nothing more about Elijah's life following his writing of the letter. But he eventually died, just like the other prophets and righteous men of the Old Testament, who all died in faith, not yet receiving the eternal life God had promised (Hebrews 11:39). Again, a careful reading of the Scriptures shows that Elijah's miraculous removal by a fiery chariot involved transporting him to another location on earth, not to eternal life in heaven.

@@geordiewishart1683you are right when you said that we should study the scriptures carefully but I disagree with your conclusion. Elijah was not taken somewhere else and experienced death. He was literally taken up to heaven. Elijah was still on earth when he sent the letter to Jehoram and the prophets only thought that he was somewhere else. When Elijah appeared to Jesus on the mount during His transfiguration, he represents those who will still be alive during His second coming and Moses represents those who died in Christ but will be resurrected when He returns. Let’s be careful that we will not be misled. We know from 2 Kings 1:17 that either Ahaziah or Jehoram was king of Israel when Elijah was taken to heaven. We also know from the same verse that Jehoram of Judah was reigning in at least his second year as coregent with his father Jehoshaphat (when compared with 2 Kings 3:1). So we know that Elijah lived at least until the second year of Jehoram of Judah’s coregency and quite possibly longer. We have no idea how much time took place between 2 Kings 1:17-18 and 2 Kings 2:1. It may have been a few months but likely not much longer based on 2 Kings 3:11-14, at which point we know Elijah had been taken to heaven and Elisha was prophet in his stead. But we know that Elijah would have witnessed Jehoram of Judah as a prince and a coregent with his father. Perhaps Elijah had noticed a tendency in young Jehoram of Judah for evil, and based on this he wrote the letter (likely giving it to the prophetic schools of the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel or Jericho (2 Kings 2:3-5)). Elijah must also have received some prophetic insight of the murderous deeds of Jehoram upon his ascension to the throne (2 Chronicles 21:4) and his death after eight years of reign (2 Chronicles 21:15) and recorded this in a letter before he died. You just pointed out the very thing that I was getting ready to point out, as it concerns Elijah. Great catch on that! That's why I'm not giving any real credence to sites like this, for this very reason! They have most of it right...but not all of it. There are only TWO People that have never died, that being Enoch and Elijah. God took them into Heaven, alive...and he has a specific reason for that. These are the two Witnesses, that the Book of Revelation speaks of. They will come during the time of The Great Tribulation, and will witness to those that they come into contact with. After that, they are killed, and their bodies will stay right where they met their death. Then, after 3 days and 3 nights, the Spirit of Life from Almighty God re-enters their bodies, and they are, at that moment, caught up into Heaven! There are those, that believe that Moses and Elijah are the two witnesses...but Moses has died, and God buried his body...and, when God buried ya, no one's gonna find ya!☺️ However, at the Second Coming of the Lord, his body, along with all the deceased Saints, will rise at the First Trumpet. The same way the bible was burnt during Middle Ages and the French Revolution, the same it will be at the end with NWO. There is no contradiction between what Moses wrote, Elijah said, and Jesus said.

My intention is not to put down the Bible, it's God's gift to us. It's valuable to this generation. In generations past before the invention of the Gutenberg Printing press, there was very limited access to the scriptures. The people of God had to rely on fallable men. The Spirit of God was essential for salvation. If a man has the Spirit of God, he has the law(10 commandments) written in his heart. So you see, I don't want to put the scriptures down, only elevate the voice of THE LIVING GOD!!!!

Luke adds a part that Matthew misses. Luke 20:38 He is a God, not of the dead, but of the living, for they are all living to him.” The dead are not actually living (Compare Ecclesiastes 9:10). They are living in God's memory. That is how God will resurrect them (Acts 24:15).

Hi Bonny, We are being tested but He knows our weaknesses and limits. Focus on what Jesus suffered. He took on himself our sicknesses and illnesses with the damage done to his body. He won your healing at great cost to himself. So receive healing in your body. God loves to heal His children. He set up the means for us to be healed so we need to receive it. This receiving (through faith) is probably where we struggle. Keep your focus on what Jesus has done at the whipping post and on the cross and meditate on the healing Scriptures (Ps 103, Isaiah 53 etc). In healing ALL who came to him Jesus claimed "I only do what I see my Father in heaven doing" (John 5:19 onwards), so we have absolute assurance that it is our Father's will to heal all of His children. Hang on. Let the Holy Spirit guide you. I speak words to you "Bonny; be healed by the stripes and suffering of Jesus. Holy Spirit, come and repair and restore all within Bonny's body that has been damaged. Restore all organs and tissue to perfect healthy working order. To Jesus be all the glory. Amen. That’s the important question. There were no images preserved of Moses that the scriptures speak of. Neither were there any images of Elijah. God’s servants were very humble people. They didn’t stand around posing for an artist to paint a portrait of them like they were some arrogant self-absorbed monarch/ruler. It’s my opinion that either Jesus explained who was being portrayed by the VISIONS because these images were not actually Moses and Elijah since they were dead. Or, God gave them an understanding, through some miraculous means, of who were being depicted by these two male figures.

And further, even though Simon, son of Jonah, just made confession as to Who Jesus is, he was still willing to make equal "shrines" for all 3. As a type of Israel, Simon Peter shows that the law and the prophets were held in high regard, even equal to the Messiah. The Voice from heaven declares that Jesus is greater than both, and that He is the One to fulfill and complete both. "Hear Him"

What if Elijah and Moses are the 2 witnesses in Revelation 11? Will the people of that time know who they are? A lot of speculation goes into who these 2 men are, and most use the Transfiguration as their basis. But, consider also, that both men were on Mt Horeb in a cave (Exodus 33 & 1 Kings 19), both of them stood before and talked with God, both of them had their faces covered (Moses with God's hand, and later with a veil; Elijah wrapped his head in his mantle), both of them were witnesses for God, both of them had mysterious "deaths"- exits from this world. Asking questions is good. Searching the Scriptures for answers is the reward. The Lord is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

Elijah did dy when consumed by the pillar of fire. It was his ghost (heavenly body) they saw going up. That is why the other prophets asked Elisha to seek for any of Elijah's bones that might have been scattered by the worlwind of fire. Just that confirms his earthy body went up in ash and dust.
