I really don't know anyone else who likes it, I've not really had one in years because the smell annoyed my family. I'll have to see if I can grab one :)
My wife hates anything 'coffee' (and marzipan for that matter, but's that's another story), so she does not go for tiramisu. I made a brownie tray the other day, and I told her I put 1tbsp of espresso in the mixture, and she nearly freaked. She had already eaten 4 pieces by then :)
Setting that boundary with your fans is so awesome! I see so many youtubers put all of themselves into their relationship with their fans, and it is clearly an issue for them. The worst is when they're involving their partners and/or children in the content... just no respect for their own or their loved ones privacy. I admire that ability to set that boundary.
HazelBite I do agree, wholeheartedly! In this world of everything in your face, I think we have abandoned tact and respect for TMI! I know it is unheard of in this day and age, but some things are just none of our business, and I am thankful for that as I don't feel the need to know all about everyone---it can be way too scary! I enjoy James info in that he is G-rated so to speak as well as I can enjoy his reviews without having to know ALL about him....He is not a deity folks, so don't worship any human!
Please do the aeropress! And as a side note, I really support your decision to keep firm boundaries and keeping your private life private. I think that it's awesome that you share your passions online, but conversely to then keep the most important bits about yourself just for those who are the most important to you, your friends and family. Love your content man, keep it up :D
I think square mile is referring to the city of london. It's one of the nicknames of the city of london, which was originally around a square mile. Not to be mistaken with london, where the city of london is located in.
I'm surprised people were asking about your personal life at all, and I appreciate you setting that boundary. Your channel's whole ethos has always seemed playful yet professional to me, and part of professionalism in my mind is precisely about setting those boundaries. To start subjecting people or places in your life to public attention & scrutiny from your platform would just be completely out of step with what I enjoy about you and your content so, thank you for that.
I barely care about the private lives of people in my own private life. I hope James's is happy, because... well, why not? Other than that, none of my business.
haha. Probably a bunch of girls asking if he's single not realizing he's gay. :D I'm just waiting for him to make Turkish coffee and see him make various coffee drinks with it..
My last girlfriend once was so frustrated with her cheap handmixer while making tiramisu, I bought her the nicest model the local store had - a Kitchenaid 9-speed - for Christmas. She absolutely loved it and still uses it all the time. True story.
Hi James. Just wanted to leave a short comment. As someone who doesn't drink coffee or tea at all, I find your videos oddly enjoyable to watch. It makes me even want to drink coffee sometimes! Everything is so informative yet entertaining. Thank you for enlightening me with your coffee knowledge and experiences!
You're not alone! The difference is, James' video DID start me on coffee recently. I already have a V60, aeropress, weighing scale with timer, hand grinder, kettle...omg I dare not even entertain any thoughts of espresso creeping into my head. And what's even odder, is that I put your videos on play and your soothing voice puts me to sleep (unfortunate insomniac here). Of course, not that you're boring, EVER!
1:25 I love how you use every chance you get to diss the US measurement system. I am with you on this journey till the end of this arcane measurement system!!
If we went full metric in the UK buying car tyres would be complicated... for 1 time I need to buy replacement tyres and learn what size in CM my wheels are.
@@jameshoffmann I think this is true for the Brits but it for sure is for the US, the pound (weight) and yard are defined using the kg and the metre. So you are using the S.I. system, except for a conversion factor.
Id rather to just want to know the stuffs that James is comfortable of sharing to the public, completely respect the boundary. Respecting boundaries, is one of the qualities of Mr Hoffmann that attracts me to continue support his platforms. Keep up with the passion and the great work👍🏼
Can I just say James, I went back and found your music project from ages ago - unnamed because I want people to work for it haha - it's such good music, and it explains your amazing taste in music! :D Edit: turns out you named it - King Seven!
Woke up, fell out of bed Dragged a comb across my head Found my way downstairs and *drank a cup* And looking up I noticed I was late Found my coat and grabbed my hat Made the bus in seconds flat Made my way upstairs and had a smoke And everybody spoke and I went into a dream
Congratulations for getting 250k subscribers James. That's such an awesome feat and dedication just as how you're dedicated towards coffee. Your book gave me the key to enter the world of coffee and to see you succeed is a blessing. Keep doing you, you're amazing.
Haha! I feel exactly the same about specialty tea - it's another rabbit hole that I'm very interested in but can't afford to obsess over. I've spent waaaaay too much in coffee already 😆
I really respect your drawing the line James. That shows your tremendous respect for your family and their personal lives. I am glad to hear you are doing as okay as can be right now. It is indeed a crazy and weird time. Thanks for keeping the videos coming. It gives us a little break from reality!
Hey James, you know for me the boundaries thing is actually essential. I enjoy the mystery and i remain highly respectful of that. About the high expectations you give yourself for your video productions and contents, thats the very reason most of us are here every single time your videos are up and liked the video before the first 60 seconds punched in. At least to me that is.
Lol I’m sorry to say, that is how I found your channel - because you made the dalgona coffee. 😆 went down a black hole with that ever since just watching 1-2 videos. But thankful because then my feed introduced me to your channel!! Love quality coffee and hard for me to follow someone just for coffee, appreciate your expertise and insights!! Also appreciate your dry sense of humor! We all need humor these days!!
desormais22 lol that’s exactly how I got introduced to mr Hoffmann too! I’ve binged so many of his videos in the last 2 days. Now I’m keen to go invest in some good coffee making items
Hello James! Just bought the same V60 decanter as you have... Just brewed my first coffee with it half an hour ago and it's amazing! Such a difference to be able to swirl the coffee inside like in a Chemex, give it some air and just have everyting in one device... Also as an avid whisky tester, it's amazing to smell the coffee from an expanding neck of the carafe. Damn!
honestly kudos for drawing a clear line with respect to your private life, so often when it comes to people in the public eye these boundaries get blurred & fans/followers overstep
I haven't watched this, but just the fact that I'm excited about watching a video title which says Why Jimseven... should tell you I'm literally a sucker for anything James posts.
James, I started watching your videos because I really enjoy your voice and demeanor. It's really relaxing and it's just what I needed in these turbulent and anxiety inducing times. It's not that I wasn't interested in coffee before -- I was -- but now I've accidentally learned a lot about coffee. So thanks. I'm always looking forward to the next video. No matter what you talk about you always make it interesting.
Fair play to you on the private life stuff. Completely agree with you. Your life is your own and you share what you want to share. I find your content interesting, you make me laugh and you talk about coffee. That's all I care about, and it's all anyone should need to care about. Congrats on the 250k.
In a time when content creators seem to think more is more and share everything including their bathroom schedules, it’s good to see someone who separates their personal space and doesn’t feel the need to post every 5 minutes. Your videos are well thought out and enjoyable for the user!
Love from Taiwan! Been here almost five years and have been drinking the tea for even longer. The "Phoenix Mountain" oolong tea you mentioned is category of rock tea grown in Guangdong province, the same mountain line becomes Wuyi mountain in Fujian. Their variety of rock tea is robust and mineraly. Hard to get the real, quality stuff but worth seeking out. Can't go wrong with a nice Taiwanese high mountain oolong.
i love that you love even trash tiramisu because i am that way about certain processed "nostalgia" foods from my childhood, but i find that i can't abide tiramisu unless it's made with really nice coffee. then it is a treat for the gods.
Unfortunately, some people on the internet feel like whoever they watch is obligated to give them whatever they ask. It's disgusting. We need more people like you.
@@jameshoffmann i hate the culture of milk in tea, working in the hospitality industry and watching tourists put milk in things like chamomile tea or drowning even a lemon verbena in milk because "it's what the english do" kills me inside. Milk in tea is fine for Twinnings dust "Tea" and nothing else.
@@alexc7367 oooh no! 😱Have to admit that I still have an English Breakfast tea with milk, but I grew up drinking tonnes of it. Often I struggle to find loose leaf tea in shops and I was strong armed into getting instant coffee and pg tips and it is horrible. I tend to have Earl Grey teabags and pick up loose tea in smaller quantities. I bought some chai tea, but I think that it is not the spices of Indian tea I was expecting.
You’re on track to pass 300K in a couple more days at this rate! Kudos to you, you deserve a million grateful addicts who need a little more knowledge AND culture in their daily dose!!
Enjoyed the video , i really like and respect the James's Boundary lines , that's what elevates him for me from my most favorite coffee personality to most favorite youtuber
I can't recall if I ended up on this channel via a late night YT-rabbit-hole or a random YT rec but I love this channel. I find it immensely enjoyable with excellent quality and variety of content, oh and let's not forget a good dose of dry humour. Also you have a very calming voice and presence. So thank you
James, I want to say thank you to you for helping me to get into coffee brewing. I am a young man in the US drinking bitter office drip coffee. Now all of a sudden I cannot go to my office anymore, and I needed coffee to keep me motivated. I have been stumbling on buying a USD 500 espresso machine for a couple of years but I know I would not enjoy using it or dialing it in. Thanks to your Aeropress Go video I learned about coffee isn't bitter when brewed right and the Aeropress. Now I am grinding my beans every morning and brewing with a regular Aeropress. Your work on the internet is appreciated! I wish you safe and sound.
If you’re into Ted Chiang, his short novella “The Story if Your Life” is Fantastic! I highly recommend; it was also made into a movie entitled “Arrival” with Amy Adams a few years back. I also recommend that-great film.
Tiramisu! Ah. A small pastry shop in the Finger Lake region of upstate New York. The serving was taken out of the freezer and microwaved for maybe 20 seconds. The filling was oozing out between the layers. Fresh cream, chocolate syrup and cold espresso was mixed and then poured over. It was a Sunday afternoon and the server was fascinated a couple of people from west Texas had come in her place and knew what tiramisu was. The coffee served with it was some restaurant brew served in a china cup heavy enough to do brain damage if you hit someone with it. This has been 15 years ago and I remember the sweet/bitter taste of that fresh mixed syrup over that exquisite pastry.
So guys, we did it, we reached a quarter of a million subscribers, 250,000 subscribers and still growing the fact that we've reached this number in such a short amount of time is just phenomenal, I'm-I'm just amazed. Thank you all so much for supporting this channel and helping it grow. I-I love you guys... You guys are just awesome.
Still rocking a gaggia classic over here. Two small kids, not a lot of time and budget for hobbies and horror stories about more modern espresso machines reliability wise kinda made me stick with this for some time now. Thing is old as can be, but built like a tank and i don't see it breaking apart any time soo either haha
I don't know how or why this channel popped up in my recommended, I am indifferent about coffee. Don't love it, don't hate it. But I am very glad I've found it. I really enjoy watching these well made videos.
Love James Gourmet and Peter. He is such a lovely guy - he did a coffee for my mate's Kickstarter when he was pressing his own LP! We had such a blast down at his roastery cupping coffee and chatting and chatting...
James I love the shout out to James Gourmet. The coffee that first opened my eyes to speciality coffee was a James Gourmet natural Ethiopian that I had at The Plan in Cardiff when I lived there 5 years ago. It's honestly the one coffee that I can pinpoint as my intro to just how different coffee can taste. Since then, I've had loads of advice from RU-vid channels like your own, as well as the UK coffee forums, but that first James Gourmet coffee will always be that turning point!
Hope you have a great day too James! I get the feeling that subscription grows exponentially, so you might hit 1 million in the next year or so if you keep it up. Not sure how that idea makes you feel, but I hope you'll keep making wonderful videos for us ❤️
I love James Gourmet coffee, they’re always so reasonably priced as well. Was put onto their coffees by Lee Gaze back when he did a brewing class in Silhouette Espresso.
I don't know why I watch your channel. I don't like taste of coffee in any form. One could say that I hate it. But I really like your content. You are so chill and calm.
Is it weird if I say that i listen to Mr James in the evening before sleep?:} so relaxing, calming and geeky! so much you can learn about the world of coffee here. Totally in love with this channel.
The Jimseven story is just perfect! I was sure it originated from you winning in ‘07. But the fact that is has something to do with casinos is just so much better
I just discovered and instantly subscribed to your channel, it's the perfect combination of informative, nerdy, calming and good quality I look for. It definitely brought to mind the adage, 'the more I learn the less I know.' Thank you so much James.
James, thanks so much for answering several of the multitude of questions that came about...We respect boundaries and are glad that you are aware of their importance. Of course, we knew how tall you are...I mean, when you've taken that many pictures of someone, you establish scale. We enjoy a fine coffee every day or two in front of our James collage that adorns our breakfast nook..while bespectacled in Bold eyewear...in your image...cheers
I use a clever pretty often and used to have choking issues pretty consistently. I realized that the filter you use has a big impact. Some paper filters can make contact with the plunger and gum it up or (worse) tear. I never had this issue with a flat bottom cone-shaped metal filter but prefer the paper filter taste. I now use a paper filter inside of a metal filter which holds the paper away from the plunger mechanism and has made a much more consistent cup and experience. Worth a try!
TIRAMISU! Yesssss. Nutty roasts, fruity roasts. Good to know which is best. The answer is all of them. All roasts. But the journey of flavours is going to be fun.
@@odee126 depends on where Slade lives. If he's in Deutschland, he's quite short. Slade- Do what I did and move to Mexico. You will be super tall here!
I don't know why coffee snobs and culinary snobs as a whole don't usually care for tiramisu...it's so fucking good. Give me some any type of cream with a biscuit-y thing soaked in coffee any day and I'm happy. Love it.
King Seven entered this world 23 years ago as the slightly more humble James Hoffmann. Growing up in Cumbria where watching the rain is considered a suitable past-time for a young lad, the young princeling retreated into his own head where the strange sounds he heard offered some respite from the constant deluge. Escaping to Leeds, a city famed for it’s sunny climes, James buried himself in the cities gambling scene, working night shifts as a croupier, eventually battered by watching bitter men win and lose a year’s worth of salary on the turn of a card, James began plotting. Having left the confines of a proper group, James began experimenting with broken sound machines, battered music boxes abandoned by previous owners for the latest digital gadgets, slowly his make shift studio took shape. Unloved vintage wireless’s sat comfortably next to beaten up guitars and the sort of computer beloved of 1980’s BBC ‘How…’ programmes, it was the chance find of a Akai s-950 in a bin behind a seedy local music venue that finally completed the jigsaw. All that was needed now was a lucky break. Of course we all create our own luck, and for an accomplished croupier and card shark there are ways and means to engineer a successful day at the races. So with pockets full of old men’s money, James decided that he’d probably outstayed his welcome in Leeds. Packing his makeshift studio into the back of the wagon, James headed south to London. A quick name change later, and King Seven emerged, fresh faced and eager for action. A hook up with the fledgling Camshot label resulted in a quick deal and the soon to be released 12” Hidden / Brittle / Simple Folk / Snowfall pt1 (released May 03) and his remix of rising Ninja Tune/Hombre star Hint’s ‘Hinterlude #1’ has been picked up by Deep Water recordings for a spring release. 2003 should finally see the King take his throne with admirers in high places and his first full forays into bringing the King Seven sound to the stage, everything is set for this brilliant new artist to build on his already considerable achievements.
😂 😂 😂 I really appreciate your unabashed unwillingness to share personal details. My mom doesn't even know my birthday and it's gonna stay that way, dammit!
If it makes you feel any better, I (and several people I sent the link to) were watching your instant coffee video several times cause we were all trying to make it on a video conference. You're absolutely right that's it bad, especially when none of us had ever heard of "good instant coffee." After several attempts to make it better I think the best thing we got was shaking up a cold shotglass of brewed coffee, sugar, and an egg white and putting that over. Previously we tried making a meringue and folding coffee into that but that "foam" was just questionable and confusing.
541 other Comments here as I'm leaving mine. Just watched this over lunch and it was everything I hoped it would be. Mr. Hoffmann, you are easily one of my favorite RU-vidrs. Not only because I love coffee, but because your presentation is always exquisite and very often - as it was this time - hilarious. But, that's not why I wanted to comment. I wanted to comment to simply say "Good on you!" for choosing to NOT share your personal, "behind-the-scenes" life with the RU-vid world. If you ask me, that is absolutely, totally FINE. I'm super pleased to hear you say you're not sharing that stuff. Good. on. you. Sir.
