Why Jinnah Became Governor General And Not PM? | Dr Ayesha Jalal

Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah became the governor-general of Pakistan because Lord Mountbatten's impartiality was questionable. The only way to keep Pakistan together was for him to become Gov-Gen. He was the only unifying factor, says Dr Ayesha Jalal in response to Murtaza Solangi's questions

Being a student of history I haven't found any historian in Pakistan particularly the liberal lot that matches the stature of Ayesha Jalal. I love the way solangi got disappointed by Miss Jalal' s answer regarding Jinnah.

Don't agree with logics Mam. Also is she trying to say that he was not courageous enough to take bigger role to make Pakistan a success???? Maybe that's why they say that you can reach on top somehow but staying there proves that you are a champion

Jinnah Shb would have appointed someone else as Governor General as suggested by Mr Solangi. I don’t agree with A. Jalal’s logic. Jinnah Shb was not very democratic.

Wrong analysis! Jinnah was so big a personality to Pakistani Muslims that he would have retained his authority under any circumstances. It is stupid to think that Pakistan would break if Jinnah didn’t become Prime Minister. It was his mistake, alongside many other mistakes. Such a shallow analysis by Ayesha.

Jinnah knew about his health status yet chose to be GG with the intention of 'consolidating' the nation. What about the the intrusion into Kashmir in 1947 itself? Was he for it or against it? Or did he miscalculate his strength or under estimated the Indian Army response?
@dourbeen
@dourbeen 5 месяцев назад
Jinnah ordered that intrusion.. and it was a success. The whole Gilgit balitstan and Azad Kashmir ( signed off to india by hari singh) was captured by Pakistan

What Islamic invasion achieved in 800 years was flushed down the drain by Jinnah. Some defeats are more important than victories. Muslims lost a subcontinent & Hindus gained a country. Jinnah is Father of India.

dr Ayesha Jalal is below what she seems to be when she said that Jinnah wanted to solve the current issues of Muslims ,Jinnah has never been a strong practicing Muslim then how can he have such a strong affection for Muslims

Once i used to consider Ayesha Jalal an iconic figure but her unnecessarily tilt towards undemocratic steps of Jinnah and her partisan rhetoric manifests little concerns about basics of democracy..most of her talk is based on fears and assumptions " ye b ho jata ye ho jata"... Worshipping Jinnah is not service to Jinnah

But M.A Jinnah knew that he was suffering from a fatal illness and his biggest enemy was time....he did not have time to lay strong foundation for a stable political framework of Pakistan....which led to the political chaos till 1958 when the infant Pakistan was suffered with the first Martial Law.... Also it was some kind of devine help that congress leadership of that time became more interested in separating muslims due to the role that Liaqat Ali khan played as Finance Minister in coalation Govt of 1946 M.A jinnah and leadership of then were struggling for freedom for 7 years...and there was no homework done in terms of planning for the resources and manpower required...and even though we already knew that InshaAllah Pakistan would become a reality yet very little was done in terms of any post-independence sop and planning and that resulted in a disabled independent state that has not yet been recovered and was also broken half....

Aisha Jalal totally biased !!! "Jinnah became Governor Gen. Just to hold the Power of the Country, as Liaquat Ali Khan was the PM but all the Powers were in Hands of Jinnah, he was presiding Meetings instead of this PM should to Chair that Meetings, but Jinnah was going that!"

Jinnah Sb did what was good for Pakistan and most of the terms used for political bargain with Congress. You were slaves in India read Congress Raj 1937 to 1939. Secondly the killing of Hussain R.A is known by all of us. So Jinnah Sb told catatonically that State has nothing to do with it and you are free to go to any place of worship you want. Please 🙏 don't malign your leadership like Jinnah Sb.....
