I have an old phone, and I'm proud! Why keep your old one? We're all under a lot of pressure to upgrade our phones, but I love having an older one. I'll share what I get out of my antique (sort of…) model, and you can decide if the same is right for you. Keeping your hold phone has some real benefits. Make sure to think before you upgrade.

I never understood people that spend $1000 on a phone every year. I buy a mid range phone for $300-400 and keep it for about 5 years.

You should install every apps that you want to have, because one day, you won’t be able to install some apps, since it will require a newer iOS update, but if you already have them installed, you'll be able to use them for a long time before they don’t work anymore. This phone is still very fast even in 2023 and I'm pretty sure that you can still use it for 2-3 years (if your storage doesn’t get full).

Currently using an iPhone 7 Plus which will be turning 5 soon and honestly I like it and don't feel a need to upgrade it. In fact I own an Iphone 4 which I use for just calling and texting and I don't get distracted with social media since it won't support new apps. It's better instead of paying a contract to get a phone not much different from the one you already own to impress others, you should use that money in investments or savings etc instead for the future.

As of writing this comment my phone is 7.5 years old. I am using the Galaxy S5 since June 2014. I think I am going to change the battery this year and the back cover (it's a little dinged up). It should look like a new phone again. I will use until basic apps, like yt, whatsapp, google apps (stop working). I can't believe it is still going from my middle school days. :)

The phone was small in size it was working perfectly but it fell in water by me and its display got damaged I repaired it but then it got battery problem and the mic got damaged then I got a samsung phone with a bigger display.. and now 2023 is coming to an end and I feel that I am addicted to social media so I am using my old Samsung j7 prime which I have for a week now.. This phone is small in size it only has youtube in it which i sometimes use in phone and it has alarm ..and phone call only.. it's doesn't have instagram .. and I feel great while using this small tiny phone..I love it! i will use this phone in future for very long time without any problem .. and in future I have decided that I will use the smaller size of the iPhone like 7 or 8 or even any new se series (with no social media)

Been using an S9 for nearly 3 years now. Only pay £14 a month and it does everything I could ever want it to do. "Innovation" seems to have stagnated in the mobile market. The only thing that would convince me to upgrade would be for higher refresh rates but I'm not that bothered.

Hey, maybe you've already moved on but I recently discovered that my Galaxy s8 is not compatible with the 5g standard and will soon be unsupported by my service provider. I'm not sure if the S9 is compatible but you may need to upgrade in the near future in order to continue to make phone calls. You should check the specs of your device as well as your service provider's plans for their 4g towers.

of course its not you would need to have atleast samsung galaxy s10 5G to use it and what country do you live in tho? are they also shutting down VoLTE too? if they dont and only shutting down 3g then the samsung galaxy s7 or up would be fine because s7 and higher than that has VoLTE so its fine but if VoLTE is shutting down your best option is just the S10 5G as the minimum@@SeekerGoldstone

When I buy a new one, i want to feel a HUGE difference, not just the same device that is unnoticable faster and has a camera that is a tiny bit better. Thats why i still use a Samsung Galaxy S7 and an iPhone 8 for work. I will probably get a Pixel 9 by the end of the year, I could get the 8 but i want to wait for an even better one!

I deactivated all my social media accounts for about 5 months now except for youtube and messenger. I am still using my smartphone from 2019 that was flagship at that time. No need to get rid-off of the convenience that you get from having a smartphone. Each person only needs to remove things that give instant gratification. And for the matter of upgrading a smartphone every year: I don't get it. If you have a very capable phone just continue using it until it breaks.

I was really disappointed when AT&T quit supporting the Samsung S5. It was a really nice little phone and you could replace the battery without disassembling the phone. The back just pulled off and then the battery was a pull out and pop in part. Since that phone I have had to replace phones every 3 or 4 years because the batteries swell up and split the case apart. I know I can replace an internal battery but it is really difficult.

@realcartoongirl

just dont download stupid apps from the internet then even a phone that is 10 years old is "secure" enough, in the end of the day nobody wants to really hack that one particular normie individual, unless its just a bot that randomly exploits old devices operating systems to turn it into a botnet. For a pixel 2, you don't really have to worry about security as android devices get security updates from google play services for devices even as old as Android 4.0 ICS in 2021. As you know many manufacturers don't keep up with their android OS updates so google has to do all the heavy lifting. (somewhat underrated because only apple knows how to push ads that promote a more secure device) The only thing you are missing out on is new features in newer versions of android.

He’s got a point because then after eight years of having the SE 2016 and in 2024 you could easily get The iphone 15 and it will be free or so on and so forth you get the idea because it’s so old and I’m gonna give them money for those upgrade them for free that’s what I’ve been doing I literally had an old iPhone 5s and I just got the 14 Pro Max for free because they wouldn’t give me anything for my old phone because it was over 10 years old and I got the 14 promax this year for free or if you’re a Samsung person and you have an old S4 galaxy phone and you upgrade to the S 23 it’s perfect I’ll give it to you for free or even an S5. They will give you a free galaxy S23 ultra or whatever device you want that’s what I’ve been doing for years and I’ve never had to spend over thousands of dollars on iPhones any other phone that I wanted so I literally saved over $10,000 instead of spending that over the past 10 to 20 years that I would use to buy a phone every 4 to 5 years so in reality I’m saving over $20,000 for free
