Per his guitar tech Earnie Bailey, it was because the Crown kept blowing up the inputs from the hot signal on the Mesa Boogie. I ran this same setup and I can confirm. I blew mine up dozens of times when played hard on the Mesa.

im new to all this but what does blown up mean? I just got a studio preamp and i'm looking for a power amp to use with it but if the power base 2 won't work correctly I won't buy it.

It work fine! But it is more easy to have the controls in the front than in the back of the power amp, for that reason I recommend you the Crest 4801 power amp.

How does the .22 sound compared to the Preamp with the Crest and cab?

I think it will sound very different because the .22 is just 1x12 and with the preamp, Crest and the cabinet 4x12 is a big difference. The .22 is cool amp if you want yo have the Mesa sound in a small club playing live without bring the big cab and the heavy preamp with the power amp, even to use it at the recording studio is veru nice.

According to kurtsequipment was changed because It wasn't reliable. Then he used a Carver power and by mid 92 started to use the Crest. Interestingly he went back to Crown for the brazilian concerts. His rack had an open back, so it wasn't complicated to set the volume. When your Marshall cab was made? Did it come with V30s from factory? Could you make a video showing it inside? Well the case it is open in the back but do you think is comfortable if the controls are in the back when you are playing live? I think that was one of the reason as well. About the cabinet are 4x12 Celestion Vintage 30

@@OZKÄRSTALIN Of course it's better to set the volume in the front panel, but after the soundcheck he rarely modified the controls, so I don't think it was a big deal. The Carver also had the volume in the front, so why he changed to Crest? Your answer about the Celestion came incomplete.

@@OZKÄRSTALIN I asked because not all Celestion V30 are the same ( not talking about UK made vs China). There are some reports that the OEM versions were made a little different. Kurt could have used these, although it's impossible to know for sure (probably were replaced on a daily basis for IU tour). Just one more question, do the power amps sound different at high volumes? Take care!

Lei que kurt cobain usaba un overdrive siempre accionado pero no en escenario se cree q era por q no le gustaba el clean de boogie pero siempre queria mas potencia entonces el sonidista admitio q tenia un overdrive todo el tiempo sera cierto? Sera un tube screamer o era un boss drive pero casi o sin gain? Y por eso sonaba mejor el pedal tomate? Que lo remplazaron para el in utero por el gt2 hay si poniendo mas gain. Es que kurt siempre queria mas potencia segun una entrevista y dicen que en algunos conciertos de in utero uso greenback en lugar de celestion? Esto creo que lo dudo. Lo que si es cierto es que silver se grabo con el set up de TAD mientras comian los de la banda quiso grabar NIRVANA eso espero por lo menos ayudar con lo de silver haber si te consigues el set up de silver? Y si me confirmas lo de overdrive?

El Mesa Boogie tiene ese sonido como de overdrive en la guitarra limpia ya de por si ese preamp suena oscuro y como con overdrive. No se si usó un overdrive. Sobre las bocinas usó unas Celestion Vintage 30 y esas Greeback tambien las llego a usar segun lo que sé. Sobre la EQ de Sliver no la tengo. Saludos y gracias por ver!!

Simple! Por que me lo han pedido y por que me gusta hacer videos tambien en los dos idiomas! En Español tengo mucha info sobre eso. Aparte quiero hacer los videos asi hablando en los dos idiomas por que es mas diverso.
