Most of the "reaction" videos on YT *probably* shouldn't qualify as fair use, because it's just some dude going "woah that slaps" or whatever. This guy is one of the few who actually gives enough substantial commentary about the craft that IMO all his videos should definitely qualify as fair use. His lessons are "transformative" of the work, not just reactions. And as someone pointed out, Zeppelin (or whoever owns the rights) aggressively polices copyright, so the fact that this is still up may mean that other people agree.

Kashmir always makes me think, as with many zeppelin songs do, of a sailing ship on the open sea. Some sounds reminiscing of the tumbling of waves crashing against the body or the gentle rolling of the ocean. Other parts reflective of the birds and clouds overhead. The sails full, the winds strong and whimsical. So much atmosphere and depth.

It illustrated not only the genius that goes into achieving this level of arranging music, but also shined a spotlight on how insanely underrated John Paul Jones has been for ages. I remember the first time I saw this live and it absolutely melted my face lmao, I got chills and was shaking like a leaf after the performance just from sheer intensity of my emotional state post-song. It was around 2010-2011 so I was 16 at the time I saw it live. It was performed by a tribute band but even so it was mind blowing, face melting, everything I had ever wanted it to be lol. Before that, I had only heard it on a crappy 2000s era car radio one time and even then I'm pretty sure it was my first trancendence type experience with music. I was on a long-haul car ride from North Carolina to go back to Canada for the summer. It was around 2 or 3 in the morning and when the first Duh nah NUH ssshhhp hit I was absolutely floored and began drawing furiously, demanding to turn on the light in the back seat because I needed to get whatever it was that had happened in my brain out onto some sort of canvas. All that to say, thanks for bringing me back to that insane moment in my young life!

On this type of vid (which is fantastic) I'd suggest adding notes while you are not speaking. Something that keeps this a "transformative work" which is allowed under the DMCA. Your breaks are important, but doing a call out during a point you will speak about, doing it kinda pop-up video style, but with actual composer stuff. Or even "The tuning/meter change/backtracking here is important, keep groove in mind, will explain later" also gives you the ability to have more script, without a script. It just gives gives you talking points, and makes sure you say what you want to say, without having to stay on task.

I read an interview that Jon Bonham and John Paul Jones were heavily influenced by Motown, and that is why Zeppelin is one of the few Metal bands you can dance to.

I absolutely LOVE this song. It definitely ranks in my top 5 favorite LZ songs and maybe top 10 of all songs.

They are my all time favorite. And this song is in my top 5 of all their songs. Ramble On being my favorite, followed by in no particular order Stairway, No Quarter, Kashmir, and Battle of Evermore.

About the flanger on the drums, I'm surprised you didn't mention the very first note of the song. That first flanged crash hit is so flavourful. It immediately sets a very special mood for the whole song. If you want to listen to a similarly creative engineering on drums in a modern song, I'd suggest Opeth's "Allting tar slut" (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F-fKY1dn-V4.html) In fact, I think you would enjoy the entire In Cauda Venenum album.

I don't know if it's mentioned or not, the strings and brass were all arranged by JPJ, but played on a melotron. An old keyboard instrument using long loops of tape with all notes recorded on each loop.

Whatever strings were recorded on it were also augmented by Jones on Mellotron using string parts from that as well. Some of them sound like that for sure, they have that "tape" feel.

I think the ending of the song is my favorite to be honest, Robert's vocals are really one of his best here.. The ending is what makes this song great for me.

As a guitar player, Page is a great guitarist but my favorite musician in Led Zeppelin is John Bonham. Bonham is my favorite drummer. He played drums along with Page more than John Paul Jones. His fills are like guitar riffs. The timing and rolls...behind every Page riff, is an effing animal on the drums...the man was a genius.
