Ever wondered why some of us choose to embrace the simplicity and charm of living in a tiny home or a van, car or RV? Well, today I'm diving deep into the reasons behind the "live tiny" movement and exploring the personal experiences that led me to this captivating way of life. This talk is from the 2022 Tiny House festival.

I was almost in tears. My divorce ended me up at a friend's house who had turned into a hoarder after his divorce where I slept on a dirty couch with trails to walk through the house. The upstairs had the working shower and downstairs had the working toilet and the only clear spot on the kitchen counter was the area where the microwave door swung open. I was a FAILURE and would not let my children see how I was living. I moved everything I had left in a Mitsubishi Expo to a 320sf studio apartment. When finances got better bought a 1,300sf house, but felt like it was too big and slept in the second bedroom using the smaller second bathroom leaving the master bedroom and bath closed or for the occasional guest. Almost all my kitchen cabinets were empty. I ended up renting the house out and moving back into the 320sf apartment. Years later I am traveling full time riding My Royal Enfield motorcycle with everything I own in my saddlebags with a 56sf tent strapped on top, except for like this winter in a cheap motel in southern Texas. I am happier than I've been in years. For a long time, I felt I was the only one. Thanks for caring enough to share!

@@MrMoneyHelper Good on you for considering the Royal Enfield. Mine has been extremely reliable. I had a speedometer problem. They have an amazing warranty and because I travel full time they replaced the speedometer, cable, and sending unit in Tulsa and no problems since. I did have a catalytic converter rattle. The Jacksonville FL dealer got warranty approved but before it came in a friend who took his off for an after-market, gave me his. The Albany Royal Enfield dealer was very busy when I needed two new tires. I asked if he would consider letting me take my own wheels off so all the mechanic had to do was replace & balance the tires and I would reinstall the wheels. He was excited that I wanted to do that. My Royal Enfield experience has been great. I sure appreciate your asking. For you, I just went out and checked the mileage on my 2020 Interceptor 650, 43,081 total miles. Maintenance on Royal Enfields is dirt simple. I do all my own maintenance mostly with the tools in the kit that comes with the bike. I do have more tools in my saddlebags cause, well, I'm a guy 😁 The KOA in Canaan Maine let me change my oil & filter in their maintenance shed. On occasion I let a dealer do that if it's not convenient for me, no drain pan and such, and to support Royal Enfield dealers. If you go to my channel I have a maintenance playlist you may find interesting. Last, I was going to buy a 2020 Triumph Bonneville T120 SE when the INT650 came up on my radar. Maintenance was simpler and cheaper but when I got to ride them back to back at the dealer, hands down the Interceptor 650 was way more fun to ride. I've never regretted it. I didn't put money in the equation because it might be my last bike but, $6,000 vs $12,000. Feel free to contact me Anytime.

My disabled wife, 3 cats and I just moved into an RV last November. I didn't want an RV, I would have preferred a van or a truck camper set-up, but I needed more room for them. However, I still love it! After being my mother's sole caregiver for the last 7 years, (she passed in July last year) I am now loving the freedom, the simplicity, and the lifestyle of being nomadic! I found your RU-vid channel in 2016. Thank you for passing along your knowledge to the rest of us!

You're an honest and very transparent guy who speaks the truth! You are not in this to make money off people, which is a far cry from almost every other channel. I've been full-time rving since graduating college in 2006. I started with a huge 5th wheel, now live in a small nucamp tab 400, and could go smaller and be even more happy. I buy good quality things that are necessary, but feel overwhelmed if I have too much. Being a carpenter and plumber by trade, I have lots of professional tools, but my truck is outfitted for them and my RV is outfitted for me. I will never own a house after building and remodeling them for people, as I don't want all those headaches. It's so nice to lay my head down at night and not feel the burden of stress created from the "normal" life we are brainwashed to live. Thanks again Bob!

My brother in law stated to me yesterday that my vehicle was the only thing I owned, meaning, unlike him with his house, truck, other truck, yet another truck, camper, suv, trailer, Jeep and snowmobiles, that I don’t amount to much. He said this to demean me, and I would often accept being demeaned, and feel bad, but for the first time ever, I didn’t let it affect me, because what I materialistically own has no value, what I’ve experienced does. We must escape the world of haves and have nots with material things. It’s stupid. My brother in law and most others will always look down on me for what I have not. That’s ok. I have kids, and family and friends and memories and experiences that I keep adding to that he and others can not fathom. I’m 60, and I’m hiking the John Muir Trail this year. Yeah!

Living within my means, not worried about losing my home due to uncontrollable circumstances like rising taxes, interest rates, and rents, not worried about struggling with debt... gives me peace of mind so uncommon in today's society. I have been living "tiny" since 2019, and NOTHING will ever make me want to go back to what is considered "normal" by society. The whole materialistic disease has made so many insane like the hoarders, workaholics and addicts, etc. I feel like I am among those who are part of the solution, not the problem! But I wouldn't expect anyone to truly understand what they haven't experienced.
@stephenbland7461
@stephenbland7461 2 месяца назад
Agree 100%. In a past life, I worked for a millionaire in their property, who lived in a vast mansion with fleets of supercars and motorcycles, and yet I’ve never found them to be ever truly happy. In fact most of the time they were downright miserable. And that is the rub. When you have every material possession you could ever want, when you have all the money you could ever need or spend…..then what? And then we have the paradox of the difference between wants and needs. Someone did a study in the uk of past lotto winners, and how their lives changed. Very few ended up happier than before. Well done for exposing the inconvenient truth. More and bigger, doesn’t always make you happy. And yet every day, the governments and media talk about nothing but growth, and if there is no growth that is a disaster.

I love meeting these, mostly young, hikers. It might make a good video to interview a few of them. Hi Bob I have been following your channel just in the last little while, purely by accident. I am also following Carolyn's RV journey. I, now, know you know each other very well. As a fulltime caregiver, now 77 and 56 years married, I find I am desperate to find joy. My husband was stricken with Parkinson's almost 30 years ago and, now, in 2024, he is in the last stage of the disease, completely bedridden. That makes me housebound, by choice. I grew up Motherless and life was miserable, growing up with two step mothers, in a dysfunctional environment. I would spend hours dreaminng and fantasizing about being a Gypsy. I didn't want conventionalism. I wanted tiny, I wanted solitude, in my daily life, I loved nature and, I loved dogs. I can never fulfill that dream but, I can have the next best thing...watching other's follow the same dream, I once had. Your discussion, today, is so factual. We should live tiny, live within our means, have more meaning in our life. With the madness of our world, all we have is fear and dislike of and for our fellow humans. Most people don't realise the value of our land, our natural resources and how when times are tough, we can either stand up and get creative or, wither up and die. Indigenous people, worldwide, get it! Thank you for all you share, on your channel. Life isn't easy but, it can be joyous if you choose to follow your heart and your dreams. Heather Ontario, 🇨🇦 0:39

Bob your an insperation to all of us who right now are strugling to survive. WE need to learn how to just say no, im not going to pay that price. ill do with out. Right when i think I can do this, the market value goes up an takes it far out of my reach.the people selling tiny homes thinks 80 thousand is cheap for a home. I will be dead and gone before I could even pay half of that off. So its back to square one. Building a camper out of my SUV. Thank you.!

I was temporarily homeless for about 3 weeks because my apartment wasn’t ready to be moved into, so most of the time I slept in my car and I can’t lie, I felt so peaceful and I wasn’t stressed out about maintaining my apartment.

I think simple is better word than tiny. People want things to be so simple that tiny is just a by product. I also think having a tiny home is not the same as being a nomad. I feel bad for people cramped in cities. Nomad sleeps in a tiny home but doesn't live in one. And ill say that nomad life is an adventure. Even if a forced adventure, life is going to push you to other places. And its glorious!

Hello there Mr. Wells, I have been watching your videos for about six years now. It it's always a good feeling to hear about your life and the amazing journey that you have been on. I am my 93 yr old mothers caregiver . I am taking notes and learning all that I can from you # 1 and # 2 other tips and suggestions from a few others RU-vid 'ers living in and or just exploring life in their vehicles. I'm paying down my current debt and I have bought a few things that I will be needing later when it's my turn to hit the road. I am retired and receive a little under $2,000 a month. I also live in Southern California and will never be able to afford California's OUTRAGEOUS PRICES on everything. I'm not sure what lies ahead for me but because of you Mr. Bob Wells, I am less anxious about it and I'm looking forward to a new chapter in my life with new people , sights and sounds. I can go on and on but I'll end it here ... Take Care , Safe Travels and God Bless 😊❤✌

I'm sure many are experiencing and can identify with your current situation. BLM land might work for you later on. Then learn as you go.

I was a volunteer at this Tiny Fest in Scottsdale and sat and watched your speech and met you and your wife at the end of the evening. I live in an 8X16 THOW in Tucson and love living with less stuff.

The introduction of the horse led the plains tribes to expand their tipis from 13 to 18 feet diameter. For a whole family. We evolved to live tiny

I loved that. Thank you. I'm making $150k a year in a job that is boring me out of my mind. All I want is the tiny home freedom. I bought an 08 fird econoline extended handicap van for $5000and it's clean. In the next couple months I'm starting my vanlife journey and sell almost everything I have and use the money I saved to feel thr freedom for a long time if not the rest of my life. I'm going to but a couple acres in east Texas just for a home base. Thank you Bob for helping me get put of my quiet desperation.

The large American homes are such a waste of energy resources unless they are doing solar . I prefer small space, cabin in Alaskan bush, treehouse, van, sailboats, barr land and then built small cabin. The small spaces were the best places I have ever lived, I just bought a Bluetti ac180 after watching your review, it's my future power for my planned trip in my van I'm working on and looking to buy off grid land and build small cabin again and having the Bluetti is a game changer for me
