Just my contribution for everyone: “Every time you get lost in thought-which you will, thousands of times-gently return to the breath.” : keep a couple of seconds paying attention to that though, to that pain, to that what you see, what you hear, what you feel, then return to the breath. You can say yourself “it is pain, it is pain”. And, it is different to say : I have pain (avoid this), than “it is pain”. Hope this make practice better for someone’s. Regards.
Thank you for putting this together. I recently came across Dan's Nightline segment on his journey and the book, and was very interested. I'll still be ordering the book.
Because author wasted his 10 days in meditation retreat. So he thought that's are not actually wasted days.... They makes me happier - not 100% happier, but it makes me 10% happier though.👍👍
Dude, you use "spirituality" like it's a curse word. FYI, the "monkey mind" is a Buddhist term. Btw, you didn't say anything different than any of the conventional schools of meditation including Zen. If you weren't so spirituality-phobic, you might have learned from any number of Eastern religions & "self-help gurus," as you call them, that meditation has nothing to do with deliberately attempting to "clear the mind" of thoughts. Also, just because society calls someone a scientist doesn't make that person smart or even trustworthy. Science changes its mind on the most basic principles of existence at least every 9 years. Don't you remember when science teachers used to tell kids that the world was made of matter & energy until that was supposedly "proven" wrong? Science is a work in progress. And sometimes in REgress. How about you judge a practice on whether or not it WORKS for you, rather than on who is teaching it & what their title is. For example, people in the comments section seem to be getting a lot out of this video & how you've compiled it even though I think you sound like a narrow-minded parrot. Doesn't matter what I think. All that matters is whether or not this practice works for people or not. #powerofnow
Wow, you got super butthurt for no reason. All he said was that we need not use nebulous terms like "spirituality" to explain neurological effects. These are physical, biological changes, not changes to the "soul" or how in-tune one is with the universe. A lot of people get more out of advice with tangible reasonings. For someone who advocates Zen teachings, you're certainly not practicing it well. How do you think your comment affects the people who are reading it after watching an informative video on being happier? Your needless toxicity is harmful and disrespectful. Also, no scientist has ever "disproved" energy or matter... #powerofopeningabook
