Rodman was a three-time NAIA All-American in college who averaged 25.7 points and 15.7 rebounds per game before going on to star in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.
“He couldn’t make a point” That statement couldn’t be any father from the truth and dilutes what Rodman was. Who’s this clown talking? Dude was a phenom athlete and gritty AF.
No shi* he literally doesn’t mean actual points …… what he was saying is he can’t put winning numbers in . But that he was the beast of a rebounder that could be as equally as valuable. Gotta pay attention to the message
@@GnomeRU-vid sounds like you’re hurt cuz that’s not all what he said. Not everyone can be a star player, sometimes they’re just there to play a role and they should accept it and thrive within that role. No one said they can’t or shouldn’t get better.
Saw an interview where they talked about warm ups, Rodman would just watch people shoot, just standing there. Someone asked him what are you doing, he said counting the rotations of the ball. He did that so he would know where the ball would go. Brilliant and crazy all wrapped in one.
I loved watching Dennis play. No matter what, whether he couldn't hit a jumper or was noted as a tough guy,he hustled up an down that court no matter what. Motivation, dedication, that's the way it should be. Words to live by said by my drill Sgt. back in '88
He's a decent scorer. He just chooses to grab boards instead and DR retired as one of the greatest rebounders of all time without having to score like a superstar.
ABSOLUTELY. He could fill the lane like NO ONE . HE COULD SCORE OFF OFFENSIVE BOARDS TOO. HE WAS SO ATHLETIC AND NOT A BAD BALL HANDLER FOR HIS HEIGHT EITHER.
@@markparikh4000 he felt bad for the North Korean civilians. Most were starving. The us had no embassy with credibility to NK. He had heard the NK higher up liked him. He started with great intentions then it just digressed to what the media tells you what it was. Sometimes you have good intentions but reality will change your agenda to fit the needs of the powerful.
No he couldn't he wasn't a good scorer. Don’t get me wrong a bad nba scorer can average 12 atleast pretty easy if given touches. But he wasn’t a “good” scorer That's why he just rebounded instead of being a high scorer and rebounding. If he could efficently drop 20 and 15 he'd do it every game but he just didn't have that ability
Actually MJ was the one that manage him. MJ accepted him and respected him like he was , talent and defects and that made DR respect MJ back and didn’t let him down. Mutual respect
MJ knew how good Rodman was. They both played against each other when Rodman was with the "Bad Boys" Detroit Pistons. MJ knows that Rodman is more of an Asset rather than a Liability.
True story there - this is the period when Rodman became a serious player because he knew MJ counted on him, he put his trust in DR to back him up with Pippen - The Bermuda Triangle! This was truly the most epic period of Basketball ever!!
He was forced to by MJ, he didn't have a say he was told to always pass to Michael if he was in position and with MJ being so fast he didn't have a choice
@@alexbrake3645 he was allowed to score and it wasn't cuz MJ was telling him not to touch the ball it was just his mindset and play style where you started getting way more excitement out of changing a game as much as possible without scoring. The man was just different in the head.
Rodman was a College scoring machine and was a pretty solid scorer in Detroit. He just sacrificed almost every bit of that in Chicago for the betterment of the team.
Exactly! I'm from Chicago and watched it all! When they got Rodman I had no idea how it was going to work. Then I watched him grab 22 boards one night and play lock down defense. I was sold! Rodman a Chicago legend now! Also he could score, but they didn't need that, he sacrificed for the team!
Rodman was not only a great rebounder, he could defend every position. He tried to do whatever the coach asked him to do at a high level. Every now and then, the team needed him to score more, and he would always produce.
Not to mention Roman's hof defensive abilities . Worm could shut down all 5 positions and his basketball IQ was off the charts , one of the reasons MJ admired him so much.....
Back in that Bulls dynasty, a sports writer wrote something to the tune of “Dennis Rodman is one of the only players in the history of basketball who could influence the outcome of a game without taking a single shot.”
Jesus Christ loves you! ♥️know♥️ 1 John 5 KJV 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1 Corinthians 15 KJV 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Romans 3 KJV 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Don’t forget he was also one of the best defenders in the league. He could totally take someone out the game and get into their head if it was a series. One of the most underrated players ever.
He is underrated. He's the greatest defender and rebounder of all time. I promise you he would make wilt look like a role player if they played. Nobody puts Rodman on their top 20s lists cuz people only respect scoring......
Prime example of simply staying in your lane and playing your position. Rodman helped MJ and SP shine bright yet he too reaped all the benefits. His ring’s cannot be argued!💯💪🏿
I think Rodman is better than Bill Russell. Better defender. Better rebounder. Russell Better leadership and blocks. But I would rather have Rodman, assuming I already have a scorer and a leader
Great defense, semi decent passing, tough picks, and mentally (with addition of some dirty tricks here and there) breaking down opponents helped too. And if I am not mistaking he was averaging 20+ last season of college. He wasn't one dimensional rebound hound by any means... Oh yeah, Dennis could run on a wing of a fast break with the best of them.
@@basketballerlover5272 Can't argue with that statement. NBA is on a different level. However, as I see some other people mentioned, Rodman could probably score more. He just chose a different role for himself. I recall him scoring 3 3s in a to row in one game just because he was feeling himself (maybe Steve Kerr's spirit left Steve and possessed Rodman for a couple of minutes? 😀). Dennis was a very unique player.
Exactly. EVERY NBA player can score….being able to score is a prerequisite to even be in the league (Rodman would’ve looked like Olajuwon against non-NBA competition). It’s just that whatever a player’s best talents are, they master and stick to those talents because that’s what makes them most valuable to the team. If they try to force something that’s not exactly their best strength, the NBA competition is so elite that they’d get exploited.
Dennis Rodman was a scholar of the game his tenacity was unmatched and Jordan recognized and respected him and that gave Rodman a stamp of validation he needed at the time
Cause he was the guy from Detroit that shut Jordan down. Probably the only dude Jordan met that had as much dog in him as he did hisself. Greatness recognized greatness and knew what they could do together. Historic run. They were damn near unbeatable
Jackson recognized that he, in his own way, is also a student of the game, He understood Triangle Offense and ball bounce angles before Jordan did, yet due to pride or whatever, he acts disinterested in team film sessions. He'd rather self-study.
Rodman is the epitome of "hustle on the court". He was never the biggest, never the strongest, but he was willing to try harder than you to get that rebound, and he did 👌🏼.
He was a specialist. He knew what part of the game he did best and focused on that. There's so much more to basketball than scoring points. Someone has to do the dirty work.
Chamberlain and Russell both averaged close to 23 rebounds per game. Rodman isn’t even in the top 10 of career rebounders of all time. Rodman played college ball so he played ball for years before the pros.
@@johntobin3235 lol uneducated take as hell lol. Rodman was 6 foot 7 and wilt is 7 foot 1.. Wilt played in the 60’s Rodman in the 90’s.. the competition wasn’t even close in the 60’s compared to the 90’s.. there was no goaltending or a 3 point line lol. Centers were 6 foot 7 white boys in the 60’s.. And all time rebounds is about longevity not who’s the best all time. Is Lebron the 2nd best scorer of all time just because he’s 2nd on the all time list? Come on man..
I love Jordan, been a bulls fan since the 90's, but people forget it takes an entire team to win championships, not just one man. He had Rod,Pippen and the rest of the team with him. I love how this guy is getting the other player's recognized and not letting people forget the other greats that were there too.
Rodman was a animal I was 13 or so when I remember thinking 🤔 "jeez that crazy dude with the bizarre hair gets every loose ball, offensive rebounds, and gets in the head and stops greatness at times like Karl Malone" Rodman = Winner
JORDAN like him Bcuz he knows RODMAN was a very smart player And know the basketball more the others. U can see how JORDAN give a hug to RODMAN .. Thats whay u call respect..alot
Also all time great paint defender since he is one of two or three players in the league who could guard a prime shaq. All time great defender overall i would even say top6-7 defender of all time.
@@ButterBallTheOpossum bro that’s an entirely different era where nobody was even tall enough to get a rebound over Wilt and there was a lot of missed shots. Rodman had to get rebounds in the best center era
@@defendathadon7148 Nahh, i actually just don't give a fuck about his "point", Rodman could score with ease in his era. Thats my point, stick to stealing Shannon's takes boy
@@defendathadon7148 exact he not saying he couldn't make points he s saying he never put up allot of points cus he was so dominate at rebounding he didn't have to.
@@wondering_hand0985 yeah sure but it's because he had a bigger assignment. He knew he could rebound like nobody else so he did that. He averaged 25 ppg in college so he had the ability to score fs.
Just because you saw him hitting shots in practice, doesn't mean he could have been a good scorer or shooter. That's some casual level thinking, smh. Rodman was never a scorer, he was a putback guy or cut to the net and get a layup player.
Aw dam why do folks use this kinda logic about a player not being talked about enough? First it's dumb logic and this dude in his prime was a major Star on and off the Court from a marketing and promotion standpoint
Rodman has been talked about a ton for a guy who was a big part of the 90's Bulls and his celebrity antics off the court lol. Anyone who knows basketball knows he was a legendary defender and rebounder.
@@citypopFM yes tell them he was in movies tv commercials publicity stunts and huge part of pop culture with dating Madonna and Carmen Electra and other starlets
He could also guard all five positions, and was one of the greatest defensive players of all-time! Nobody else could shut Shaq down, but Dennis Rodman could! He was a phenomenal athlete, and he always gave 100%!
Gary Payton called him The Fuck-Up Guy He said "The plays that were working, as soon as he checks in its like he can read our plays and fucks everything up"😂
Rodman a legend made on his own perseverance an challenges. Rather see Rodman playing under the rim than LeBron playing at all . You’re DA’ man Rodman ✊

The most energetic, high octane, hustle defensive guy I have ever seen.He probably was the most well conditioned athlete, with all his antics.Early years was a Impala, then he transformed to a Mustang !!!
He left to go to san antonio first though? Seriously nobody talks about his two years there. Everyone assumes he went straight to chicago. He always had a career resurgence in chicago because his last few years in detroit and in San Antonio he wasn’t nearly as productive. He helped on boards but defensively and offensively he wasn’t performing at his peak. That phil jackson system rejuvenated him
