Why does Collin care about tv money? Josh Pate gets this absolutely right. Fans shouldn’t care about that unless it will relegate your team/conference to national irrelevance, which won’t happen to the SEC. Also the SEC is evenly split between two time zones, and I don’t believe for even half a second that your average Chicago or New Yorker cares about CFB because of Rutgers and Northwestern. If they care it’s because of Ohio State or Georgia or Texas, etc. And don’t tell me Texas has been underachieving when you’re sitting there propping up USC. Dumb video.

@Iliketowatchcfb haha your only argument is a hypothetical. Guess what? Every team in football cheats it has little to no effect on the game coaches just love to bitch and moan when they’re losers. The Big 10 has year to year turnover in who can win 9/10+ games because the talent actually shifts from year to year and coaching matters. SEC coasts off the reputations of Georgia and Alabama to uplift their whole conference when every other team looks mediocre on film. SEC teams are wildly inconsistent week to week because they thrive off boom or bust offenses versus lackluster defenses. Big 10 wins more bowl games year after year because they actually have consistent formulas for victory instead of relying on chance and athleticism. Best teams in the SEC this year have 1 to 0 quality wins vs good teams and beat up on the bottom tier of the conference yearly

Look up most watched games per year, bama always has one or two in top five to ten range but there are more fans and alumni in the core big ten so they get higher viewers. Michigan ohio st and Penn state specifically dominate the board every year. Also ole miss is not as big of a program as you think they would be small market in baseball terms, lanes just done a great job out performing and you’re next door so you think it’s bigger but no one really knows about them nationally. Uga vs bama if they played regular season would get less views then Ohio st Michigan which I know sounds crazy to you but it would be by like 7-10 mil at peak. It’s going to prob break a record this year for reg season.

This is such a laughably bad take Colin....I doubt you read your comments section but I'd LOVE to come on any platform and just tear this terrible stance apart and debate you. (1) Any hypothesis that is centered around a college conference excelling due to large metro city markets is critically flawed. You know what people in large metro cities like to watch the most? Professional Sports.....not college and the data bears that out. You know why the SEC has been the best conference for the last 30 years? Unparalleled Regional Support and proximity to high volume high quality football recruits. The south doesn't have many professional teams like your precious large metro markets so all the smaller regional area's live and die by their college teams. (2) It's just insane to say in the last part of the video "if you are starting a new conference today you want to be in the Big Ten footprint." Because college football more than any other sport has a direct correlation from recruiting to on-field success. If you breakdown NFL rosters (which is by far the most unbiased evaluation of regional football talent production) the extended south (basically Texas + traditional south) produces consistently the best football talent in the country both overall and per capita. And the one great recruiting football area the new Big Ten has (California) due to healthy food culture isn't producing 5 ***** Offensive and Defensive lineman at a high rate. There just are less and less large people on the West Coast than other area's of the country. Die hard college football fans know that in modern football elite defensive lineman are the more important position on the team outside QB. So while I actually agree the Big Ten will have a financial advantage over the SEC for the next 10-15 years due to the current TV contracts of both it's highly unlikely that strongly effects the outcome on the field. Lastly, whatever financial advantage the Big Ten schools may have the SEC will always be more willing to invest more $$$ into football (coaching salaries, facilities, NIL) than any other conference. The Big Ten schools just don't historically spend on Football what the SEC does and I don't see that changing even when they have more money then anybody else.
@matthewbrashear1070
@matthewbrashear1070 10 месяцев назад
An addendum to my argument because I'm having trouble sleeping and this helps pass the time......your assertion that starting next year the Big Ten is going to have "all these awesome matchups more then the SEC" is also incorrect. The Big Ten next year is going to have 5 elite college football brands: Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, USC, & Oregon. The SEC has 7: LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee & Florida.

This is a terrible take. Northwestern and Rutgers are going to pull New Jersey and Chicago markets…cmon dude, college football has never been based on cities it’s dominated by college towns. The big10 expansion is cool but let’s be real the top two teams (CFP champion teams) will be the same for the foreseeable future (OSU & Michigan), hell PSU might still even be three, but that’s all it is adding a bunch of schools to finish in third or fourth. This sounds amazing, but it doesn’t sounds right. 1. Apparently Colin doesn’t know that the SEC West is in the Central Time Zone. 2. College football is more of a rural sport. More to the point since I’ve lived in a lot of places in my life I’ll break it down like this. In the south east people are talking about college football and going to 6 or 7 watch parties a season. In the NE it doesn’t get discussed much and it takes Boston College, Syracuse, or Penn State (when they actually beat OSU or UM) doing well to get an occasional mention. Midwest is more similar to South East but it’s more in pockets and not in the major cities. Out West unless a team is on a serious run no one cares that much. 3: The Viewership comparison was dumb. Viewership is more based on tradition than ranked vs ranked. UM vs PSU is a top 3 Big 10 game of the year every year. UGA vs Ole Miss happens once every 5 years. How about this which conference got top Viewership last weekend? Oh look it’s the SEC. 4. If the B1G wants to get the same talent level they’ve still got to recruit in Texas and the South East. The B1G isn’t watched as much there so the amount of resources the individual schools will have to spend to recruit there will be significantly more than the SEC. Also only Oregon of the new blood has facilities on the SEC level. The rest of the the current B1G, outside of the top 3, is going to have to throw down 9 figures to upgrade their facilities to compete in recruiting.

Yeah no one denies the Cream of CFB now is Georgia, Alabama, and sometimes LSU, but to have so many blue bloods in one conference with the B1G is going to pull in a lot of money and eyeballs. SEC is going to regret only having 8 conference games. No one wants to see Alabama whoop on Austin Peay, Middle Tennessee, and at least one other FCS for 3 of 4 non conference games.

The worst part of the Pac12 is the cannibalization within the conference. Week 3-6, talking heads keep saying it is the best conference due to their non conference records. Now most teams have 3-4 losses, and the conversation is "who have you played?" The best thing the B1G 10 can do is schedule a couple of marquee matchups per team, so Ohios State, Michigan, Penn State, Oregon, Washington, etc. Don't cannibalize each other and keep the conference out of the top 5-10.

Nah the SEC already took the only two teams in the big 12 worth having. If anything they’re would go after some Acc teams like FSU, Clemson, Miami, UNC and Duke for basketball. Now that programs can buy players and the legit way to do it is through advertiser relationships, the conference with the most TV advertising dollars will be in pole position for attracting the best players. Yes, the SEC historically has had tremendous advantages: local buy in, warm climate, conference leadership that turned a blind eye to recruiting violations, lesser academics, more talent in region to draw on, etc. In the new economic climate, those advantages don’t matter as much anymore. College football as a whole will benefit due to audience growth and a better TV product, but the SEC is likely to suffer, especially if measured against its dominance in the last two decades.

Cool. Send a team that can compete in January. “When Washington and Oregon have the right coach they can be good”. Yeah when Florida, Auburn, and Tennesee have the right coach they can win titles. That’s the difference. In the new SEC you have 8 programs that at their best can win the championship. (UGA, Bama, LSU, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, OU, Texas). In the current Big 10 you literally have one team that in the last 20 years has shown it can compete on the national scene. Adding the West Coast teams will help but still isn’t enough to close the gap. Cool you’ll win the ratings championship every year. But 18 year old recruits from the south don’t care that Ron from Chicago wants to watch Big 10 football over the SEC. Championships and more importantly the NFL draft will still be dominated by the SEC.
