The lack of a headphone jack has absolutely nothing to do with how thin a device is. Case in point, the thinnest phone in the world. The Vivo x5, has a headphone jack. Removing the headphone jack is 100% a financially motivated decision, there is no practical reason to not have it.
@muddycalendar3292
@muddycalendar3292 5 лет назад
If your phone is thinner than the jack it won’t work. If it’s thinner than 3.5 mm it can’t and vivo x5 is 4.75 mm

It would be an ask to even fit a usb c port on a 3.5mm phone.
@seraphina985
@seraphina985 5 лет назад
@@Erowens98 Indeed the USB C jack is specified as 2.56 mm +/- 0.04 mm so the interior dimensions of a compatible port must be no less than 2.6 mm in order to accommodate any standard compliant jack and that is just the internal space excluding any shroud so you would only have 450 micrometers on each side to accommodate that and any exterior surface finish.

I am part of the 1.6% of viewers, as I am over 65 years of age. I always buy a mid-range phone as it has made sense to me for a long time. But I have found as of late the mid-range phones have gotten better and better. This past month I moved from an Asus Zenphone 3 to a Huawei Nova 3i. I was immediately impressed with the longer battery life even though the Nova3i battery is smaller than the Zenphone 3. As week after I got my new phone it was upgraded from Android Oreo (8) to Android Pie (9). Speed, sensitivity on the screen and the fingerprint scanner are far better. The screen is as sharp as I need it. And I really don't need photos larger than the 11MB JPG files it creates. It is out performing my wife's iPhone 7 Pro as to speed, WiFi signal reading and 4G bars. It comes with 128GB storage and I can double that it I want, but I will never need more. All for a phone I got without cost when I renewed my cellphone contract with my provider. Sure there are going to be better cameras; I don't need it. There will be phones with better displays; wasted on my and my eyes. And the rest? Hey, I'm happy.

Toilet Paper the problem with older flagships is software updates. Normally they get around 2 OS update cycles (from Android O to P to Q) but with older phones you buy it at a point where you can only look forward to a single update. A midrange at the same price, like the Nokia 7 Plus on Android One will probably have more longevity in that respect.
@gngnome
@gngnome 6 лет назад
Toilet Paper Launchers run on top of your current OS version and improvements in the overall performance and system features would depend on OS updates. Security updates matter too. Launchers being stuck on top of the existing UI means they perform slower than they would otherwise. A custom ROM replacing the OS, might run things better for a while on faster hardware. Motorola however isn't a reasonable standard for comparison as it has acquired a very poor reputation because of the lack of updates, particularly to their G5. I am using an old Moto phone but have refrained from buying their products because of this.
@pneumonoultramicroscopicsi4065

I've been thinking the same thing recently to be honest. I got my phone a couple years ago and since then I've been pretty out of the loop in terms of the most recent developments. But I've been looking into getting a new phone in the near future, and I'm just now hearing about how most companies are now getting rid of the headphone jack, and moving from a traditional finger print scanner to a finger print scanner that's under the display. This annoys me because as cool as it is to have a finger print scanner under the glass, ultimately it's just not necessary. If anything, I'd even go so far as to call it a gimmick. It isn't in anyway more convenient than a regular finger print scanner, in fact, in most cases it's actually slower. I personally would much rather have a headphone jack then finger print scanner that happens to be positioned under the glass. Same goes for wireless charging, some phones get major hate for not having wireless charging, and I never understood why. Isn't the whole point of making something wireless is that it's less cumbersome and allows for a more free range of movement? But with wireless charging, you can't move your phone at all.. so what's the point? And the most ironic part to me, the the device you need to rest your phone on for it to charge wirelessly LITERALLY HAS A WIRE. Plus it's not even faster then just regular fast charging. I think as humans we love to see progression and we get infatuated with new tech without even stopping to consider the actual real life applications.
@BronzeLincolns81
@BronzeLincolns81 5 лет назад
other than apple, headphone jack adapters are included in the box, so you can continue to use your wired set if you wish. oneplus' in screen reader is darn good for a first attempt and it's only going to get better and faster as time goes on. even now it's only a fraction of a second slower than a physical reader. i'll take the quarter of a second lag in speed to get the reader from the back which is dumb placement where you have to take the device in your hand or flip it over in order to unlock it. when you hold the device your thumb is already in the place where the front reader is anyway. I agree with you wholeheartedly on wireless charging. it's rubbish. it's vastly inferior charging technology where you basically cannot use your device at all while charging and takes forever to charge. better to not have it and not need it with something like dash charge or superVOOC than to have it and it not be useful.
@JG124_
@JG124_ 5 лет назад
@@BronzeLincolns81 I have to disagree with the first part. A physical finger print scanner positioned on the back of the phone is completely fine for me, if it's positioned correctly. It's super easy and convenient to just use my index finger to unlock my phone instead of my thumb. Plus, it's slightly faster, and allows for the headphone jack. And even though most companies do include the adapter in the box, to me it's just another wire that could easily be lost, or broken, causing the need for a replacement. As if we need more of those. Practically speaking, a finger print scanner that's under the display is going to accomplish a lot less for the sake of convince than having a physical one on the back.
@BronzeLincolns81
@BronzeLincolns81 5 лет назад
if wired headphones is something you'll use everyday you won't lose the adapter just like you won't lose your car keys. put the adapter on the end of your headphone cord and leave it. why not? you use it all the time anyway. if you have trouble using you thumb for a fingerprint reader than do you have trouble using you device overall? your thumb is gonna be the most used finger for your device unless you have the phone on it's back or on a stand where you won't have access to a rear reader(face unlock doesn't work in the dark). we're talking a fraction of a second here as far as speed. that's almost negligible.

@@BronzeLincolns81 but then, you can't play games while charging, because of the headphones occupying the charging port
@BronzeLincolns81
@BronzeLincolns81 5 лет назад
that might be for the best as charging your device while in use, especially if you're gaming, is bad for battery health. the heat generated by rapid charging as well as high power consumption will damage your battery making it hold less of a charge over time. even if you're able to do it you shouldn't. even worse if it's something you do all the time. BTW, how will you play games while charging with your headphones sticking out of one end and the charger out of the other? even if they're both on the same side, how are you gonna hold it?

Honestly speaking, i dont find attraction in flagships anymore now a days. Why?? 1. Price vs performance is not 3 to 4 times as midranger 2. Midrange processor is way more than enough fo run any high end apps as well as games smoothly enough. 3. No difference in ram rom area than basic flagship models. i.e: 4gb ram and 64 rom is basic in flagships, so is in midrangers. 4. After seeing camera perfomance of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, I cant justify flagship devices for camera anymore. Whatta beast in that tiny price. 5. Battery Backup is poor in flagships in my opinion, did u see Zenfone Max pro m1's Battery??? 5000Mah and price even less than redmi note 5 pro and performs similar, just camera is slight let down than RN5pro. But that beastly battery backup blows me away. 6. Midrangers are People friendly, Flagships are Showoffs friendly. I really dont see the point getting flagships in this era. 200-300 dollar range phones performs way better than flagships if you measure price to performance.

Here I am with my OnePlus 3, seeing no reason at all to upgrade 2 years after I bought it. I mean any phone from today does not have a single feature which the phone from 2 years back does not have. It's not like a 2008 when if you don't upgrade you miss out on a ton of stuff, literally. Hardware including memory, display, storage all have reached a certain point where they have stopped evolving. So is the phone design. Speaking of phone designs, for almost 9 years, the phones have had a singular design philosophy. In the world of tech, such stagnation is surprising to say the least. Unless you are the person who wants their photos to be 24MP instead of 18MP, there is rarely any reason to upgrade these days.

Well, my opinion here before watching the video: Because flagships are focusing on being a luxury thing, bold design to make a statement that there is only one of it's kind. While the mid-range is focussing on usability, making the smartphone better tools for our daily use instead of a piece of shiny slippery curved glass with sliding cameras and idk what more.

One major issue I have right now with Nokia is that they're launching one too many phones and they want to get fast updates, because of which the quality control of these updates get overlooked. Good example is the nokia 7 plus, the 8.1 june patch update makes it unusually laggy and gets other bugs too and I had to go to the service centre to roll it back to 8.0. I'd like to add that even cheap phones are catching up with the "midranges". I use a Moto G5S, which cost me under £200, but has everything that I'd want from a smartphone. When compared to the 7plus you used in the video, it is a little lacklustre, but still stands on its own as a great phone
@TheRailroad99
@TheRailroad99 6 лет назад
Colonel Crow I wouldn't consider £200 to be "cheap". For me " cheap phone" means around £150 or even cheaper. £200 to £ 300 mid-range £300 to £500 high-end Anything above that is a rip off in my opinion and way to expensive to carry it around everyday. Phone manufacturers have artificially made phones a lot more expensive over the past few years. 2013 the Nexus 5 / LG G2, both flagship, cost around 400€ in Germany.
@asingularcheesepuff6383

TheRailroad99 That's fair enough. I haven't had a lot of experience buying phones, so I assumed that what I got is low-end. I wasn't aware that smartphones could exist a lot cheaper than that. And you're right - "flagship" phones are really over-glorified mid ranges with a big ol' brand slapped on to double the price. The important things is that companies want to charge maximal price you are willing to pay (similar to car industry) so they make the marginal price for additional features much higher. What's important is that we as customers make this price so high. Manufacturer are listening to customers needs and they push it to such a limit because there is a demand. Hardware gets still outdated quite quickly and prices fall high enough that it is much batter to change phone every 2 years rather then flagship phone every 3.

My philosophy of buying phones is very similar to computer hardware. I typically buy a new GPU when my current one is 4-5 gens old, and I purchase a new card that is 2-3 generations old at that time. This works out great, because a top-of-the-line video card in 2018 that's $800 will be selling for $300 or $400 four years later. Of course, this buying philosophy has been seriously screwed up because of crypto, but that is besides the point. This philosophy can also be applied to phones. I'm not sure how phone purchasing works in Germany, but here in the US it's all just one huge scam. You "buy" a $900 flagship phone from your carrier, and your bill goes up by $30 a month. You're basically leasing that phone until you pay it off. What makes this a scam? By the time you're a year, maybe even two years, into paying off this $900 phone, you've already dumped as much money into it as it would cost you to buy the same phone refurbished or used at that time. So if a $900 phone can be had for $300-$400 2 years into its lifespan, it doesn't make any sense to buy it fresh from the assembly line. You can just wait 2 years and get it for a huge fraction of that initial selling price. Basically, when I'm in the market for a new phone, I buy phones just like how I would buy GPUs. I look for some that are a few generations older, because they are substantially cheaper than any new top-of-the-line phone at that time, and also in some cases *better for me* because those older gen phones may have more useful and practical features than the midrange ones of that time. I'm still using a Galaxy S5. I'm definitely due for a new phone, and I think I might check out the Nokia 7+.

spartan456 I know this is a long comment, but you have to relize, this has been going on since 2014/ allot can happen in four years. Theres a bunch of issues, that Im gonna get to, but this is the phone I want. I want a phone that has a 6.3 inch or 5.7 inch, OLED, 7680×4320P 650PPI Pixels Per Inch, 16:9 Aspect Ratio, Removable Graphine Battery, with a runtime of 1 week, without charging or 5days, Micro SD Card, Expandable Up to 1TB, 8GB or 16GB of RAM, Chipset Qualacomm Snapdragon 845, CPU Octa-Core KRYO 385 GPU Adreno 630, Camera Dual 7K cameras, so one front facing, and one rear facing camera, image stabalazation. Fingerprint reader NFC/Wireless Charging Fast Charging, 15 mins from 0% to 90%. The problem for me, and I hope other people/other consumers as well/ I hope I'm not the only one noticing how bad phones are now days, in some ways, software in allot of ways, has gotten allot better, when it comes to optimization/specs needed to run android smoothly, and in some other ways, but hardware/design ideas/solutions, is a whole other situation/disaster/problem. The other problem is inovation/there hasn't been a real upgrade in a long time, yes chipsets/CPUs/GPUs/jumps in Ram have gotten better,but resolutions in screens haven't, also allot of downgrades have happened as well, due to other issues, such as trying to make phone bezels/phone footprints smaller. The Note 4 was the last real good/upgraded phone, samsung has released, and that phone came out in 2014, and thats just one example. The phone industry/builders/manufactures have made so many mistakes since 2014, I honestly don't know where to start. I was hoping for an amazing phone by now, but to be honest, my TVs display is better than my phone. I never thought I would be able to say that. The way things used to be/should still be, is your phone should have a better resolution/screen, than your tv. My tv is 4k now, but my phone is not, my phone should be 6k, at the least, by this point, but if it followed tradition/ the way it should be, it would be 8k. When I had a 720p/1280x720p, 16:9, this is a normal resolution, and aspect ratio as well, we will get to that crazyness as well, point being is, when I had a 720p tv, I had a 1080p/1920×1080p, 16:9 aspect ratio phone. When I had a 1080p tv, I had a 2560x1440p 16:9 phone. The point here is your phones display should always be a step ahead/a higher resolution than your TV. Now were almost, at a point of no return, for phones, reason being is, because developers are starting to compensate/fix phone manufactures problems, through software, this is a bad sign, because when things like this happen, this makes these new crazy aspect ratios and resolutions a standard, and this also conflicts with other devices, that are designed and built properly, not just phones, but also desktops, laptops, tv screens/video viewing screens. Hopefully, and I think they already have to an extent, but developers/coders/programmers, will help to prevent this from being an issue, allowing you to change resolutions and aspect rations, through software/apps/OSs/Operating Systems and so on, allot of this has been a thing, in windows, for a while, because its needed, for other things as well, but this should still not even be an issue at all. Heres the issue, and this is where it stemed/started from, manufactures wanted to make slim phones, theres nothing wrong with that, if the task/vision/idea is done properly/right. Phone manufactures found out the hard way, that batteries are a certain size, and theres room/space inside phones/cases/housings for a reason, and this isn't just with batteries, computers/hardware need to breath/be ventalated/be below a certain temprature/keep its thermals in check. The result of this stupidity was batteries started blowing up, and catching fire. This was just there frist mistake, it gets worse, then phone manufactures decide to alter the demention of phone screens, and I think allot of other features got stripped out, because of this as well. SD card slots, started being removed/not offered, such as IR Blasters/ infer red/ the technilogy that allowed you to use your phone as a remote for all kinds of devices, such as tvs,Air conditioners, fans, and so on, also batteries were no longer removable, in allot of phones, also manufactures started stripping out some of the mah in there batteries, to make the battery thinner, MAH, is Mili Amp PerHour, the more the MAH the longer the battery life, Micro SD Card slots started to be removed/not offered. Also prices continued/continue to go up, even though phones offer/ offered less. This was just the tip of the iceburge/the beginning of the problem, a phone should have 4,000 MAH, at this point, or more like 6,000MAH, that would be amazing; Also removable batteries allow for battery replacement, in the event of failure/a dead battery, or if you want to buy an aftermarket battery with more MAH/Mili Amp PerHour, to get better battery life, or to bring spare batteries, to switch out/to increase your battery life, by having the ability to have multible batteries with you, and just swap them out; Also expandable storage/micro sd cards are a must have, prime example, I have 578 books on my phone, music,movies, you can't fit that on onboard storage, my books alone are 4GB, plus its good for an OS/Operating System to have its own drive/Hardrive/SSD/Flash Memory,for the most part/as much as possible. So basically every phone since the note 4 has been a downgreade, because of this. Now this is where even more problems start, phone manufactures decide to make phones taller, but less wide and alter aspect ratios. In some applications/uses this is good, like a great example surfing the web/reading is better, because the phone is taller you see more on screen, but the huge down fall is video,and the aspect ratio. When you watch videos your not able to utilize your screen anymore, because, who would have thought, videos aren't shot in that resolution/aspect ratio, so now you aren't able to utilize/use all of your screen, you paid for, so now, not only did they downgrade phones, but they cut allot of your screen relastate out/ now you have black bars on the side of your phone, where the rest of the video used to show/still does on a device/screen that has a 16:9 aspect ratio, and a normal resolution, such as 1280x720p,1920x1080p, 2560x1440p, 3840x2160, and so on. So Basically all of these phone manufactures were doing/did all of these crazy things, instead of addressing the obvious problem. The Problem was there wasn't enough space with in phones, because companies wanted to make a phone, with the least amount of bezel/border/plastic/meatal, around the screen/ manufacures wanted you to only see screen, without a border/if you saw a border they wanted it to be as tiny as possible/as little as possible. Theres nothing wrong with this, as long as its done properly/right. The obvious answer is changing the battery technology used in smart phones, a battery is power, the consumer, nor the phone is gonna care about how it gets power, as long as it gets power, also changing the battery isn't gonna alter how the device works/all the device wants is power, Granted if we started using ghraphine/graphite batteries, we could use allot less material, to generate the same amount of power, which is your/the actual problem, meaning now you could have a really thin battery, that generates more power or the same amount, but has a much smaller footprint/no more catching fire; Technically you could do either one or both, create a battery that is thinner, than a lithion battery, and is also more powerful/can power devices for longer. The answer is the battery, the answer is not stripping off parts of the phone/downgrading the phone/changing screens/aspect ratios, and dementions of the phone. Phone Manufactures need to wake up. Phone Manufactures have been holding technology/the world back for years now/since 2014, its not something to be proud of

JackTar I don't care about price/ getting a cheap phone, technically all phones on the market are cheap, from a builders stand point/there are no good phones out there. The resolutions on phones are terrible, no 4k,6k or 8k phones, there is one 4k phone its a sony phone, its also 16:9, which is good, but I'm not paying a grand for a phone, unless I can get a phone with a removable batterie, micro SD card slot, 4k or above resolution, it would need a normal resolution, and a 16:9 aspect ratio, I also want 8GB of RAM, fingerprint reader, also it would be nice to have a graphine battery, but at the least it needs a battery with 5,000 MAH, this would be a phone worth buying, you could throw an IR Blaster in there too, but its not a must have, Infer Red/ it allows you to control your tv,blueray player, if your not streaming everything, AC/anything that uses a remote. The way phones are today there to cheap to buy, build wise, manufactures slap crazy price tags on them, but with low resolitions,black bars/18:9/non 16:9 aspect ratios, no sd card slot/ expandable storage, no removable battery, if your battery dies or gets weaker, you need to be able to replace it, easily, and if you want an aftermarket battery with more MAH, that should still be an option, the more the MAH, the longer the battery life, anyway phones are cheap and crappy, and way over priced, in 2018/ well I guess since 2014, the note 4 was the last phone that was a true upgrade, it was better than the note 3, the note 5 wasn't a bad phone, per say,but thats when manufactures started pulling everything out of phones, such as expandable storage, removable battery/everything that made phones good, then after that phones/batteries started catching fire/blowing up, manufactures wanted to make phones as skinny/as bezeless as possible, manufacturers found out quickly that hardware/batteries need to breath/vent/ hardware needed/needs space to maintain there optimal thermals/tempratures. There idea was lets strip everything out of the phone, to get a bezeless phone, the more practical aproach to this was/is, graphine batteries, they could be thinner than a lithion battery, but still output/have the same amount of power, or maybe more/ if we used graphine batteries they could have there skinny phone, but also you could have a phone that will stay charged for 5days of non stop use, maybe longer, but definitely 5days. Software has gotten allot better over the years, and processing hardware/CPUs and graphics hardware has gotten more powerful, performance wise, but at the same time they require less power, giving us better battery life, allot of phones have low MAH now, but get good battery life, because of these things. Anyway phones are getting terrible though, we need a new battery technology, and expandable storage,16:9 aspect ratios, anyway hopefully one day phones will start getting better again. Phone manufactures have been holding technology back for a while now, we've been stuck at 4k for a while now, and it hasn't even become mainstream yet, phones have the ability to push video resolutions/to progress tech quicker. The best thing a manufacture could do is, at this point to make up for lost time/ to make up for the last four years, just realease an 8k phone, or even better offer a 6k phone and an 8k phone, this would really push other manufactures of phones to follow suite, to keep up, also youtubers would start shooting in 6k and 8k, and not just 4k, hopefully the new Xbox and Playstation, and definitely PCs would be capable/graphics cards would be available that would allow for 8K 60FPS gaming, right now just to get 4k 60FPS and above, you need two titans in SLI, two 1080TIs are perfect for 1080p, 60FPS and above gaming, you could game at 4k with 2 1080TIs, but to get 60FPS and above you would need to turn down some settings. Video and gaming at 4k, needs to become the standard now, 16:9 as well, then quickly after that 6k needs to become the standard, for video, and then a little while after that 6k gaming should become a thing, and then 8k, 8k needs to become the standard with in the next 6months, for video, anyway were way behind.

one problem with this philosophy is security updates. qualcom typically don't support firmware update after 2 years and android would not support after 2 years too. apple now no longer support security update for iphone 5s.

+spartan456 I don't think your philosophy is good because smartphones especially have been developing very fast. A 5 year old flagship is worse than a middle range phone. Personally i buy a new phone almost every 1.5 year or two and instead of giving huge money buying a flagship i buy a a $200 one. So i can be upgrading for 8 years and still not give as much money as i would give buying an Iphone X and i bet you that my middle range value for money smartphone in 8 and 10 years time is gonna be a lot stronger and better than an Iphone X in every category. Hell even my current smartphone has a lot things better than an Iphone X. Bigger screen with no notch, a much bigger battery, a headphone jack, an IR blaster to control my devices etc. I find such thing a lot more useful that talking emojis and better cameras. I am not a fucking photo expert, i just need to take a few photos every now and then and they are more than good enough. Cameras now are so good that differences are just for those photoshop analyzers which is pointless for someone no bothering with extensive camera work. So when it comes to money i spend less while also upgrading all the time and getting better tech and battery life(not only because is bigger but because the battery is never too old). Also sometimes it fails for graphics cards too. I bought a 1050TI more than a year ago and it pretty much plays everything great unless you want 4K(which is pointless for me since my screen is still 1080p). That card is in the lower spectrum and was quite cheap, only $150 when i bought it and is better to buy that at the time than a flagship card of 3 years ago and give $300 to buy and has worst heat management and more noisy fans etc. That card does what that old card does while being cheaper, silent, not needing extra supply connectors and having more advance support and software due to being newer.

I am a student and i cant afford a 1000 euro phone. I bought the Nokia 7.1 when there was a 50 euro cashback campaign paid initially 224 euro for the phone - 50 euro brings down the price to 174. I have been using the phone for 3 months now and the phone is really impressive pretty good battery life, `screen isnt bad at all and the camera is decent enough. It's actually pretty crazy how good the phone is for only 174 euro's. It's pretty fast. I have had budget phone a few years ago and performance was awful and bad screen. All these bad things are not present at the Nokia 7.1 it just feels like a quality device.

I think you overlooked something and is the fact that now flagship phones are focusing more on software than hardware for example you can see the example of Apple who is focusing more on Augmented Reality than improving any of the hardware because they see the future there. Also things like updates and compatibility are important especially for the near future and what’s to come.

MUST KNOW TIP FOR MID RANGE PHONE USERS !!! It is basically MANDATED that you use Gcam you need to sideload it as it's not available on the play store, but if you stick your downloads exclusively to XDA your already low chance of getting malware is NON EXSISTANT you might want to begin with the latest version and if it says (app not compatible with your device) just work your way through the older versions if you have a more popular handset, good news : there's probably a custom gcam build optimised for it it might take a full day to get it working ... BUT once it DOES WORK, you will be able to take photos with Pixel-like quality, i shit you not then you can go taunt your flagship using friends with your photos on instagram ... if you're into that kind of thing ( I know, I am)
@mihailazar2487
@mihailazar2487 6 лет назад
note that this will not work if you have a very very weak processor ... anything over a SnD 415 is a PASS for this, with personal experimental evidence anything under a SnD 415 ... and you can still have the Gcam around for the better panoramas and 360 photo sphere ... but regular photos will end up looking worse than on your main camera most of the time
@mihailazar2487
@mihailazar2487 6 лет назад
anything over a SnD 600 and you get very very good photos with HDR+ and anything over and including SnD 800 and you get PIXEL grade photos (which are now the best in the industry and can beat unedited DSLR photos ) and there's a high chance portrait mode will work too YES, on selfie cam too and Yes they will look as good as on the Pixel (the only difference will be the longer processing time)

Agreed, my Pixel 2 was stolen when I was on holiday last week. Ended up buying a $100 budget phone to keep me going for the time being, from a Korean company I'd never heard of. For $100 I got a 5.5in display 2.5Ghz quad core processor, 3GB of RAM, an ok camera, and an all aluminium body, with stock Android 7.X which I upgraded to 8.0. While not on par with the Pixel 2, I don't think this thing will hinder me in terms of performance, and I could comfortably use it for the next year or so. Only thing I wish it had was USB-C.

SirGarmaples Are you saying for you, theres no point in being able to have a 4k,6k,8k phone/tablet, or are you saying its not possible to build a phone with a 4k display? Theres already one 4k display on the market, sony has a 4k phone. Honestly I agree 4k is pointless, but once you get to 5k/6k or 8k theres a big difference. The reason this should be a priority/higher resolution screens need to be a priority, is, because to get tvs/movies in 8k, it needs to be main stream/used allot/a demand/ have an audience, phones are the cheap way to get the ball rolling, the more 8k/6k phones, the more youtubers start shooting there videos in 6k/8k, then once that becomes more mainstream, TVs will become available in 6k/8k,but if no one has a 6k/8k 16:9 phone, then theres no need for the youtuber to get a 6k/8k camera/ upload high quality vids, if the youtuber cant do that/doesn't have a reason to do that, netflix will be stuck at 4k, not 6k or 8k, its a domino effect.We will get 6k and 8k tvs regardless, but smart phones are a way to fast track the procsess.

Ye, thats so wierd. I have been using my sony z2 since late 2014 and still have no reason to upgrade. I have even downclocked it for less performance but more battery. And here people are buying 3 phones in 2 years :D

The only flagship I considered when buying my phone was the S9, because all the others were missing crucial features. But in the end I too settled on the 7+ because I got a slightly used version from Amazon for 330€ while the Samsung would have cost more than double that. The battery is freaking insane. My old 3T would run out of battery by the time I got to bed while the Nokia usually still has about 60% left. I once forgot to charge it and after 36h and 6+h of screen on time I still had 15% left. And the black copper version looks sexy af too
@MiGujack3
@MiGujack3 6 лет назад
I'm sure you used DASH charge a lot on the 3T, fast charging fucks the battery and that's why it barely lasts now. If you do it again with the 7 Plus I already see you complaining about the same thing in 1,5 years. Use slow chargers and don't discharge it completely.

I have an Honor9Lite and it's actually brilliant. I had an HTConeM8 a few years ago and that was good but my new phone only costed £170 and it's full HD, comes with 32GB of storage, great battery efficiency (I'm talking atleast 6 hours of battery life) and dual cameras on both sides of the phone. I would recommend it to anyone in need of a phone but also doesn't want to splash out on cost.

I use my 5s iPhone because it's tiny and really very usable as phone, and has nice camera, but it's small screen and low battery makes it less usable as internet browsing/gaming/entartainment device. So I've spent some 180$ for Redmi Note 5 and use it as pocket tablet, without the simcard, getting wifi from iPhone. Yes, camera is shitty, headphone sound is shitty, but I need just it's big screeen, nice battery and very decent cpu to get nice flow. Perfect duo for me.

Agree with you midrange is great sensible design durability no over the top specs and gets the Job done like the metal design of the redmi note 5 pro or the plastic back of my Moto G3 the main things for me are custom roms a headphone jack, sd card , better battery life only disadvantages would be screen quality,camera quality and overkill hardware. which is definitly not worth paying 3 times the price e.g I can get a Redmi note 5 pro and a 128gb sd card for $360 AUD flash a rom which is updated quicker than most flkagships and I'm good to go compared to paying $1500 AUD for a Pixel 2 or s9+ and get unsupported within a year.

I just bought The new Sony A55 Walkman because I got so sick of using iTunes to transfer music to my iPhone 7. I’ve listened to my music collection more in the last few days than in the past two years since switching my last iPhone. When you have AAC Lossless files, there just isn’t enough storage on an iPhone and I refuse to pay $2000+ to get the storage I need. The Sony Walkman with a SanDisk 256 GB MicroSD memory card cost me $320 AUD. Plus I can now use the 3.5m headphone jack with my nice headphones. When my iPhone 7 dies, I will look at buying something like a Sony Xperia mid range phone because I have been thinking exactly the same as you recently....

1) they sometimes have more features like a headphone jack, microsd slot, and more durable material 2) they are like 600 dollars less but not that much slower than flagships 3) some of them don't have a notch or hole punch, which some people will really like (especially those who watch movies on their phones) 4) they sometimes come with more accessories like a free case or screen protector

Trust me, the Sony xperia xa2 ultra is the best midrange phone in the market at this date. I found the phone even more and practical than Galaxy s9 and iPhone X trust me. Sure it is not the better phone but it cuts out performance that is actually the most negligible. I am not a Sony fan, but this phone is the most practically best phone out in the market. If I had to choose the best of the best then it would be Google pixel 2xl

I have an ASUS Zenfone 4 Max (€200) and it's everything I wanted it to be. It has dual sim, an SD-card holder, a HEADPHONE JACK (which I think is very important and even a unique feature these days), good camera quality and a really big battery which means that battery life never pressures me. One of the primary reasons that I wanted to buy this particular phone was because on the pictures, it looked like it had a physical, clickable home-button. Turns out it was actually a non-clickable button/fingerprint reader but I've very quickly grown to like it because I now don't have to insert my code every time I want to use the phone. My only complaint is the video quality.
