Who here gets ear symptoms? Tinnitus, ear pressure, dizziness and sensitivity to sound? Soon I will be getting an orthotic and I am just praying that it helps these symptoms reduce. My face muscles feel very tight

I had a night guard made in October 2020 and now it has a hole on April 30,2021. The dentist told me that this guard should last me two years but it never did. The dentist underestimate my grinding . So now I am stuck with a night guard that has a hole and can’t afford to replace it . So sad. Still using this guard with the hole.

Very few dentists make high-quality night guards. It takes a lot of time, attention to detail, and skill. And it's not very profitable compared to other dental procedures. I'm very excited about the potential longevity of some of the 3D printable resins!

Me too! I had new crowns put on most of my top teeth and I got a guard that keeps my front teeth from touching and I am now waking up with headaches and clicking on the left side of my jaw. Not likely. They are few and far between. Regular dentists are doing what they think will help but there is little to no research and they are not trained in TMJD treatment but are using trial and error. Often making situations worse. At your expense. Some like to make a guard for your lower case teeth. Some think an upper case teeth guard works better. Some like to use a soft guard, others a hard guard. They want your feedback so they can figure out what to do next when it doesn't work out. Then you will pay again. And again. It's unethical. If not immoral.

Can you please help me? I'm a 14year old boy, I have had Jaw clicking (painless) for a bit over a year now. It's really anoying, I just want to make the jaw clicking gone, because it REALLY affects my life in a bad way. Please, any help is appreciated. Thank you for taking your time! :)
@BuffaloTMJ

Most important thing is to find a TMJ specialist in your area, and have your jaw evaluated to find out exactly what is happening and why, to the best of your ability. If you can't do this, then watch my videos on "How to cure the clicking jaw" parts 1 and 2, and see if they help at all. And here are a couple tips for you: Set an alarm on your phone twice per day, and when the alarm goes off, notice if your back teeth are together, or if your jaw muscles are tight. Also notice your posture, and your breathing. Then take a few seconds to sit up straight, take a deep breath in through your nose with your lips a little bit apart (and notice where your tongue goes), out through your mouth (like you're blowing ON a candle without blowing it OUT), and swallow. Repeat this 2 or 3 times, and go on with your day. When you repeatedly and consistently TEACH your body good posture, breathing, and swallowing habits, those habits EVENTUALLY become your nervous system's automatic patterns.

Prolotherapy for TMJD stops the clicking permanently. Injections with a harmless sugar solution irritate loose, damaged ligaments and tendons, making them regenerate. They become strong again. No more clicking! I had Prolotherapy done twenty years ago, because my TM joint was clicking often. My TMJD specialist said it would never stop. He was so wrong! The injections stopped the clicking, and it never returned. The joint became normal. It took three injection sessions. There were gaps between injections, but I don't remember how many weeks the gap was. Some people only need one or two injections. 🌸

That's a rather misleading title. You ended the video by explaining the benefits of having one custom fitted in a dentist office, not that they dont work... did i miss something? I clench my teeth all the time, and no matter how much I try, it continues. I especially cant work out or drive without clenching. So after killing a tooth and grinding sharp holes into my teeth, im going to get one to protect my teeth from further damage. I mean, in the most literal sense of the term, they do work to protect teeth from further damage, and im paying for not listening to recommendations from when i was a teen.

I have tmj pain at right side Initially I can't understood the pain where I feel the pain in the ear so I go to the ENT specialist he said no infection no ear problem ear is clear After some day I recognize the pain position is inside the tmj instead of ear So I go to the dentist he suggested me to eat slowy , give rest to jaw But after 15 Day Tmj pain at right side and also cliking and poping sound at left TMJ And now I have both side tmj disorder Due to tmj disorder my nekh and head also pain So My question is how I can realize this tmj pain totally and how I can avoid this clicking totally
@BuffaloTMJ
@BuffaloTMJ 5 лет назад
It sounds like your condition/dysfunction is progressing, or getting worse, so I would suggest that you find a specialist in your area who can properly diagnose what is causing the problem, and then offer you treatment options. Based on what you wrote, I would GUESS that an occlusal orthotic device will be very helpful to stabilize your jaw joints. If the problem is that the joints are being overloaded, then the solution is either to reduce the muscle activity, or protect the joints from the muscle activity.
@BuffaloTMJ
@BuffaloTMJ 5 лет назад
When choosing a type of mouthguard for this, my rule of thumb is to find a jaw closure path that flows through a zone of functional neutrality. This means closing and tapping the lower teeth into the device should be easy, painless, and reproducible.

There is science behind them. Unfortunately, most of the scientific research doesn't differentiate between different types of splints. Watch the video I just posted about different types of bite splints from my app. Clear and precise diagnosis comes first, and the type of device selected should then correspond to the objective of the treatment. That is scientific method, by definition.

Hello doc.. I first felt this problem 2years back and it was not that severe.. But about 7mths back my face swole as i started chewing gum daily.. I consulted dentist and got relaxant and antiinflammatory and it subsided.. Now just 7days ago i started realising that my upper and lower jaw have been closing too forcefully and it felt so heavy and 2days later my right side swole all of sudden.. I consulted the dentist he gave me relaxant and antiinflammatory and advised for follow up after two days.. The swelling didnt go so i visited and got low dose intra articular steroid injection yesterday.. But the problem doesnot seems to be going or is it too early to judge.. My face swelling has not gone.. I feel spasm all over my cheeks.. There is pain over my jaw.. Clicking jaw is something i have been experiencing from two years.. What do i do?
@BuffaloTMJ
@BuffaloTMJ 5 лет назад
True swelling can indicate infection, or edema. It could also be blocked parotid gland ducts, or swelling of these glands, like what happens with mumps. The cause of the swelling needs to be determined, so that's a question you'll need to ask clearly. "What is the cause of the swelling?" Sometimes people come visit me with a complaint of swelling, and I won't see any indication of infection or edema, and in these cases I find that what is perceived as swelling is actually increased tension in the masseter muscles and sometimes facial muscles. Chewing gum will often increase the SIZE of the masseter muscles, and make the face look swollen. For now, the best you can do is try to relax your jaw, try to relax your mind, breathe, and perhaps apply a cool compress to the sides of the face. Consult with your physician to see if there may be a medical cause of your facial swelling, and see if you can find a TMJ specialist in your area.

@BuffaloTMJ
@BuffaloTMJ 3 года назад
Simple answer is, if it got worse, stop wearing it, and return to the dentist who made it for you, and perhaps he can figure out why you're responding that way to it. Hard for me to know the answers via RU-vid!
@EH_888

See a neuromuscular dentist. You'd need a neuromuscular orthotic not a mouthguard or splint.
@janebond8342
@janebond8342 7 месяцев назад
Your dentist is not a TMJD dental specialist. Dump that dentist until you see a specialist. How dare a dentist who is not trained in TMJD practice on you?! And have you pay for their misadventures?! TMJD is all new to dentists, they don't know what they're doing! Very little research done, very few specialists, they do more damage than good. At your risk. And cost.
@susiem44
@susiem44 3 месяца назад
The horseshoe splints don't work. The masseter muscle can't relax, because the splint covers the molars. The type like the OTC Brux ($59) only sits on the FRONT teeth, allowing the masseter muscle to relax. Watch this RU-vid video for an explanation: "Why Choose Brux..." There's another splint that works the same way as the Brux: Smart Guard RX (about $30) I've worn this type for ten years at night, and I wake up with relaxed jaw muscles.

Hello, I'm sorry to interrupt you again, so I have spotted that the right side of my jaw is shifted lower than the other one, it wasn't like that before, another thing is that I have had a mouth guard before, but I threw it out since I thought that my jaw was OK, now I really regret it, should I get a new one and is jaw shifted to one side normal? P.S. I can feel that my jaw isn't normal by pressing the finger on that area. :( Thank you for taking your time.
@BuffaloTMJ
@BuffaloTMJ 5 лет назад
Definitely have a dentist take a look. What you're describing could be perfectly fine, but you might benefit from an orthotic as well.
@BuffaloTMJ
@BuffaloTMJ 5 лет назад
Asymmetry such as you describe is common, but not normal. There isn't much you can do to correct true skeletal asymmetry short of orthognathic surgery. If you are comfortable and can chew food adequately, then there is no pressing need for treatment. A clinical examination would be needed to discover the cause of the asymmetry, so that is the next step.

Wearing my lower mouth guard for teeth grinding. Feels horrible in my mouth like I’ve got chewy sweets stuck in my teeth. I know it’s psychological but I’m struggling to get to grips with it. Also I’m very conscious of my front teeth like the guard makes more more aware of the occlusion between my upper and lower front teeth and it’s distracting so it’s hard/impossible to sleep. 😔

can wrong jaw position or jaw dislocation lead to migraine
@BuffaloTMJ
@BuffaloTMJ 5 лет назад
It isn't the jaw position or the disc dislocation that leads to headaches. Rather, it's the response of the musculature and the nervous system that seems to trigger pain. Relax the musculature, and calm down the nervous system, and the pain tends to fade.
@BuffaloTMJ
@BuffaloTMJ 5 лет назад
That being said, sometimes you CAN'T relax the muscles or the nervous system, because these responses are autonomic and reflexive. So utilizing some type of orthotic device, physical therapy modalities, and palliative measures are helpful and often necessary tools.
@wolverine417

@@BuffaloTMJ a author and a expert in migraine told me that 80% of patients with jaw pain know as TMJ puts pressure on trigeminal nerve have migraines.... so basically i wanted to know in case of jaw clicking (popping sound) is possible in any way that we would be putting pressure on our trigeminal nerve... that would lead to migraine
@BuffaloTMJ
@BuffaloTMJ 5 лет назад
@@wolverine417 it is an interesting theory, but only a theory. I'm not sure where the 80% number comes from, but I'm not aware of any conclusive evidence verifying the validity of this theory. The truth that we know is that the afferent branch of the trigeminal nerve which comes through the TMJ is the auriculotemporal branch. If it were "pinched" (a term I do not accept as applicable related to the TMJ due to the dynamic nature of this joint), then one would expect to experience tingling or numbness above and around the ear on that side. This is what happens elsewhere in the body, like when a nerve is pinched in the spine, or when you bump your funny bone (ulnar nerve).
@BuffaloTMJ
@BuffaloTMJ 5 лет назад
Migraine is a complicated topic, and many things are thought to contribute to it. I agree that it is possible, maybe even likely, that many patients who suffer from migraines also suffer from some level of TMJ dysfunction, but coincidence does not prove causality.
