just start with the pH, then check the water, the amount of sunlight, check the roots, fertilize every couple of months, and treat for pestes before you ever get them, prophylactic rather then reactive.

So happy to find your channel. Learn a lot 💕Im in zone 7A and this is my second Calamansi plant ( yes im a Pinay)! Fall 2021 was the first time my three year old plant( from the time i bought it) started to produce fruits…lots of it ( just like what you said a lot of blossoms/ small fruits fell). I have it indoors now since we have Winter. I still have the ripe fruits in it ( so gorgeous to harvest).Do I have to harvest all the fruits now to get it ready for Spring ?

Great video, with good citrus growing information. Correct me if I got this wrong. Lack of potassium can cause young leaves, newly formed fruits and blossums to drop. If your pH is above 7.0, certain minerals, especially iron, is not available for the citrus plant to utilize, since they like a slightly more acidic soil, such as around 6.5. Question: In one of your other videos, I believe you said that during the summer, water your citrus tree three times a day, morning, early afternoon and late evening, and to give the plant partial shade during the afternoon. Wouldn't that make the soil overly wet, causing lack of oxygen to the roots? I am confused, because in this video, you say to use the finger test, 2" deep into the soil, to check for moisture. If I was to water deeply more than once a day in the hot summer, the soil mix in my container would be too wet, especially if I have mulch (pine bark) in the top inches of the container and moving it to partial shade, as you suggested, during the hot afternoons. Also, sometimes, I can stick a soil probe down 4" into the soil, and it would give a reading of 8, which is wet, but with my finger insert 2" deep, it is slighty dried to the touch. Can you please clarify if I misunderstood something in your videos? Also, what do you think of using distilled vinegar to lower soil pH, especially, if I have a highly alkaline outdoor tap water source? I really enjoy your videos and would appreciate any suggestions.
@marcelinanoss8825

YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THE Ph ..IF YOUR Ph IS OFF YOUR PLANT IS NOT ABLE TO ABSORB MANY NUTRIENTS, NOT JUST IRON. also, during the summer if your citrus is in full sun and it is extremely hot, you may need to water more often, 3 times a day is not a rule but in my plant's case, i need to water them more as they are in milk crate pots with have excellent air circulation to prevent root-bound with very good drainage. If your plants are in a more soil environment, you may need to water only once a day. Also use a good chelated iron when you need to give your citrus a feeding :) Great question!

if something is eating your branches and buds it sounds like something larger than an insect,, What kind of rodents do you have? Groundhogs? Try putting a wire cage around your plant and observe,, also if you put neem oil on it,, animals and insects wont like the taste, I use that for deer and that works until the rain washes it away.

Hi…I’m new to your channel. Thank you for this video. I’m a new gardener (2 yrs). I just purchased my first Meyer Lemon trees. Both are in their own containers and appear to be doing well. My question: When I make my pest solution (Neem Oil, BT) how long can I leave it in the container? I try not to make too much but always have some leftover. So I save it for the next spraying. I’m not sure if it’s still potent.

wow. your a new gardener and you already know about BT?? impressed. Actually i dont use BT as it is not as effective as Neem by itself and i have never heard of any insects that have grown to become immune to Neem Here is an article for you to read that really gets into the practical use of BT. Lots of water? Other vids say citrus prefer drier conditions with one deep water about once per week. I have two dwarf trees in my greenhouse in containers (plastic) and the container sits on top of wood within the saucer so they don’t get wet feet. Should I remove the wood so that the pot can wick up water that drains through? The GH can get to 90* even with fans running. The Clementine mandarin is doing well, the Meyer lemon am concerned about. Aphids have been attacking it but i applied DE..
@marcelinanoss8825
@marcelinanoss8825 3 года назад
yes,, you are right,, you can easily over water your citrus..however when you water your tree, thoroughly water it. You want to make sure the deep roots get water as well and not just the surface roots. Your plant needs water when it is producing fruit.

Awesome video. I have a lemon tree in container/pot and I live in New York. I keep it outdoor during summer and bring it indoor during winter under the skylight. My tree only flowers in January (winter) and didn’t fruit until this past January for the first time in 10 years since I had the tree. Unfortunately, all fruits fell off, which was very disappointing. Do you suggest that I should use a fertilizer all year around? Also, is it possible for my tree to flower in summer or will it continue to flower only in winter? Any advice will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

each citrus tree blooms at its own time of the year, they do not all bloom the same, My Meyers bloom in late fall and bears fruit the end of the coming summer, Calamondin blooms all year long and Key Limes bloom about the same as the Meyers, Fertilize every 6 months and water a little more once the tree has fruit bearing. Follow my instruction on the video and you will do well.. thanks for viewing my friend!

the only thing mineral oil would do is possibly suffocate the pests, however Neem em is a insect growth retardant, meaning it prevents the insects from going through their growth cycle and kills them from the inside out.
