The Multi Axis Trainer, or MAT, is an icon of space exploration and astronaut training. But other than spinning round kids at Space Camp: what's it actually used for?
Thanks to Moriah and all the team at Space Camp! You can find out more about their programs for kids and for adults at www.spacecamp.com/

@@yvrelna Not necessarily. External events are not in the computer's control. And the physics of a space craft interacting with its external environment are tough. It is quite possible that a series of unexpected, low probability events led to this scenario, and then after a point conditions become favorable again, for the computer to regain control of the craft. Computers are not God like beings that can handle everything. But a computer can definitely do these types of calculations way more effectively than a human.

Regulary watching citations needed i come to the conclusion that mr. Scott and and his peers are educated beyond usefulness potentially leading to a greater variety of subjects they talk about. Example, Scott and friend talk about great thing friend has heard of but not the majority of people, scott goes and visits great thing, meets people there or talks with people later on about the great thing that spawn a discussion about another great thing, repeat. If this goes on then at some point Scott covered all great things and starts covering not so great things becoming an influencer.

Gemini or similar small "canister" spacecraft have low mass and inertia. When something goes wrong it is very possible the spacecraft could rotate violently and the astronaut could get disoriented or become unconscious. The risk of the fast rotation is much less likely with large ships like space shuttle due to high inertia.

it's a sleepaway camp for a week, in which you and your team of 15 people do challenges against other teams and learn about space. super fun, I've been there.

disappointing, I think a spacecamp should at least be on the height of the Karnan line...

I wonder if Neil Armstrong ever used the MASTIF aka the gimball rig? It would have certainly helped him cope with the disorientation when OAMS thruster 8 stuck open and spun Gemini 8 at nearly 50 rpm.
