Kuch is easily the “most valuable” to his team

not the league though. hes +11.. Mathews is +37. Mathews better contributer defensively, way more record breaking goals, better faceoffs, more hits, blocked shots, all with less time on ice average. Mathews should win it now that hes about to get 70 goals.

Mac & McDavid are on stacked teams. Tampa only has like 7 or 8 guys left from their Cup win, with a decimated D core and bottom six. Kucherov is carrying the Lightning on his back. Kucherov just set the single season NHL record for assists by a winger. He has 88 assists with 7 games left. It's very possible he also breaks 100 assists...as a fucking WINGER.

Hilarious that this guy thinks game winning goals is a component of analytics. My two cents: Only Gretz / Lem / Orr have ever reached 100 points. It should be open and shut but for many reasons it won't be McDavid. Desire to give it to a player for "body of work" and "voter fatigue". These guys seems to be basing their whole argument based on vibes. If you're throwing analytics into the mix, its even more in favour of McDavid.
@chelious1973

Funny you say points. It's assists. And Kuch is looking like the only player to achieve 100 assists as McDavid is hurt.
@747Cone
@747Cone Месяц назад
@@chelious1973 maybe look at points per game or assists per game where McDavid leads Kucherov. Also, way bigger percentage of Kuch points and assists are coming on the power play which is shown to be way less sustainable than even strength points. Also, if you look at analytics Kucherov’s offense barely overcomes his defensive deficiencies whereas McDavid’s defensive metrics are solid. If you’re not into analytics just compare their plus minus. Basically every measure has McDavid ahead. Although like I said, I expect Kuch or MacKinnon to win. People get used to excellence every year and don’t want the same winners all the time. Happened with Gretzky too.
@chelious1973
@chelious1973 Месяц назад
@@747Cone I don't know where you are getting your numbers from but Kuch leads in ppg over McDavid. 1.79 to 1.76. McDavid leads in assists per game at 1.33 to 1.24. But Kuch leads in gpg over McDavid at 0.54 vs 0.41. Two out of three Kuch leads. Kuch is one of the best wingers at defense in the NHL. You cannot compare plus minus a team stat to a center who's job is to back check. A center will always have a better plus minus due to the nature of the position. Takeaways is a individual stat. Kuch has 59 on the year. 6th among wingers in the NHL. He leads all fowards in plus minus on his team. Is second overall on his team. Bad on defense. I don't think so. Even strength points are the same percentage almost as McDavid. I like advanced stats when you understand them. Kuch leads offensely in most of them over McDavid. Their even strength points are 89 for Kuch and 85 for McDavid. About the same percentage of their point totals. Wrong buddy on every facet of your argument.
@747Cone
@747Cone Месяц назад
@@chelious1973 My points per game was from the time of my original comment 11 days ago. Kuch is slightly ahead now on that measure. Kuch is one of the best wingers in the game. Probably top 3 in the MVP vote this year if I was voting but Centre is a way tougher position in the NHL. Centre's do not always have a better plus minus. Usually the whole line (2 wingers and a centre) have the same plus minus if they always play together. Dunno where you got that centeres always have abetter plus minus. Plenty of good defensive wingers like Stone or Lehkonen, Kuch just doesn't happen to be one of them. No sin in that, as his offense outweighs his defects. Just a fact that McDavid and Matthews in particular are very good on defence too (not just plus minus, also using other metrics like RAPM). As for takeways, there's no evidence that that stat is a sustainable measure of defensive performance. If you don't buy that, you might also want to look at Kucherov's giveway numbers. Generally players who ply more, touch the puck more, leading to both more takeaways and giveaways. Hilarious when you say I'm wrong on every facet of my argument when its actually the inverse. Name me which advanced stats where Kucherov leads McDavid. I'll wait...
@chelious1973
@chelious1973 Месяц назад
@@747Cone I said stats. Not just advanced stats. I gave you stats. You just ignored them. Kuch led 99 percent of the time in ppg this year. McDavid led for a very brief period of time. He also leads in points and goals. He led by 7 points with McDavid having one game in hand before he got hurt. So you cannot use him getting hurt as a excuse. Takeaways are a better indicator or a players defensive play. Plus minus is if you are on the ice when a goal is scored you get a plus. Minus when your team is scored on. It is more of a team stat. Not individual. Takeaways is individual. In that they stripped the player of the puck or intercepted a pass. You know actively playing defense. Plus minus doesn't account for individual play. Takeaways does. Explain to me how it's not a measureable stat for defense and plus minus is? In detail. Go ahead. I'll wait. 😅 How can you say he is bad defensively when he is sixth among wingers in the NHL in takeaways? Or leads all fowards in plus minus on his team? Stamkos is a minus -21 so is Point his line mate is a -13 Explain that one. Go ahead. I'll wait. You just don't understand hockey. A centers job is back checking. Playing defense. So yes a center will have a higher defensive foot print to a winger 9 times out of ten. You don't have to wait. I already given you stats. And pointed out how you are wrong. You just didn't like it. Doesn't make you less wrong. One advanced stat. How about PP60? Or goals per 60. Shooting percentage?

Really. He leads all forwards on Tampa with a plus 5. Is sixth among wingers in the NHL with 54 takeaways. Which is a more telling than plus minus in defensive play. That announcer should find a clue. He also leads in seperation between him and the next player with over 40pts. Kuch leads the three with taking part in 50 percent of his teams goals. McDavid is at 45 percent and Mac 44. Yeah. Bad defensively. I dont think so. In comparison Point is a -14 and Stamkos a -23! And Point plays on Kuches line. The center position always has more plus. Its the nature of the position.

@@chelious1973some asissts go unassisted. McDavid is a breakout player. Same for Mackinnon. If McDavid or Mackinnon make an amazing play to get in the zone and make an amazing pass, and then the other players pass it around and it leads to a goal, then that shows how good McDavid/Mackinnon are. Stats arent everything because assists are only the last 3 players to touch the puck. And based on McDavids passes this season, you could tell that not all go credited.
@chelious1973
@chelious1973 Месяц назад
@@milanek1527 You are joking right? You have to be. Kuch makes his living passing the puck. His hockey iq is on a generational level. Like Crosby and McDavid. Mac isnt on the same level as Kuch in the passing game. Kuches passes are missed more than 50 percent of the time. He doesnt rely on speed. He relies on his hockey iq and stick handeling. Mac watches tape of Kuch to add to his game. Said so in a interview. Kuch slows the game down, that is his superpower. He is one of only 7 players in NHL history to have 3 80 plus assist seasons. McDavid has two. You picked the wrong subject about Kuch. And Kuch breaks into the zone as well as anyone. Might want to do your home work before commenting.
