Watch Full Episode - • Jo Koy's Mom is WHITE! Comedian Jo Koy shares why Netflix initially rejected his 2017 special 'Live From Seattle' and how he taped it himself and ended up selling it to Netflix anyway.
As a Filipino, Andrew Schulz is my favorite stand-up comedian other than Jo Koy. Seeing them both together is surreal. Just to add context: I think what they meant by "too specific" is that the Filipino diaspora population in the US is small. Just around 4 million. They may think that Jo Koy's humor will only cater to that crowd. The universal appeal of his delivery is not that apparent yet.
The ‘too specific’ comment boils down to being brutally honest with minority comedians. EVERY minority comic’s material is 75% of their cultures accent, family impressions, and their races stereotypes. I’m NOT saying these comics aren’t funny. What I’m saying is, every time I see a thumbnail of an Asian or Indian comic - there’s a definite chance it’ll be the same old same old material doing accents and family stereotypes. That’s not called “racist”
bec he doesn't bash Pres Trump thats why they didn't like him. Notice most of the comedy show in Netflix starts with bashing Pres Trump... so true about Nurses in TV
I live in Georgia and have worked at 4 different hospitals in the area and every single one has at lease 4-5 Filipinos. No shit one of them is at lease 20% Filipino nurses/workers.
@@artypyrec4186 because last year Netflix executive adopted an “ if you don’t like the content you can leave” attitude and no longer let the dumb shit lie first dictate what is allowed . The tide is changing
