@@NYCLiveI mean most train lines aren’t that busy, look at the A C and E lines. They aren’t that busy… on some occasions I’ve been on them and they are at least better than the decaying J and Z lines
When Julianne ran new York the trains actually ran and maintenance was carried out. Then democrats took over and started funding everything else with the subways budget. Now they can't even maintain the damn thing much less run it on time.
It doesn’t run infrequently. During normal operation (non-nights) longest it will take is 7 min. It’s only at nights you get those crazy wait time. Most European metros don’t run past midnight (let alone 24/7) Edit: a lot of people don’t know what “longest” means. NYC is one of few metros I’ve traveled on that has express routes too so over all travel is faster.
It's gotten much worse since the pandemic. Before it was uncommon to wait more than 5 minutes ever. Now it's common to have 10+ minute waits on the most busy lines. Trains randomly stop in the tunnel and there are signal problems, disruptive passengers etc taking up time and making everyone late.
As a born and raised New Yorker, I’ve learned over the years that if people need to be somewhere at a certain time, most of them only leave their houses with just enough time to get there on time, instead of leaving earlier so they don’t have to rush. It’s better to have time to spare than barely any time at all.
Many people have much to do before they leave home. Single mothers with children, especially. They often, because of chores sleep late and do not rise early enough. They are always rushing to keep their jobs.
Sorry but that shouldn’t be acceptable. In London we complain if a train takes 12 minutes. Most of the main lines come every 2-3 minutes. This frequency is cause it gets ridiculously packed during rush hour and most London workers can’t afford the inner city and live in suburban towns so they’re heavily reliant on trains.
No. The Archer Ave/JFK bound J often runs less than the L. You can take the AirTrain or whatever but don’t recommend it. The Brooklyn-bound L from Union Sq. is routinely one of the most crowded trains you can catch. They are probably running because the last cab on trains is less crowded, and they spied a tasty seat for the ride home.
@@pingski Union Square’s like a mosh pit fr. 😂 Gotta walk through fkn Coachella outside then square up to rush the train. If you’re carrying a lot, I’ve honestly gone backwards for a stop just to get some room.

politicians want to do the same nonsense here in chicago. CTA service has worsened for the past like 3 years, yet some people who don't even take it think throwing police at it will fix it.
Yeah, the cops that don't arrest ppl anymore, or let them go without bail an hour later, OR lose the evidence so they don't prosecute. You mean THOSE police?
Happened to me yesterday, I missed the train that was 2 minutes ahead of service and had to run home to get my bike to make it to work on time. By the time I got back to the train station, I missed the second train and waited another 10 minutes for the following train. Then once I got off the stop to transfer for the next train, I missed that train cause I missed the traffic light and had to wait for two traffic lights for five minutes. I ended up having to bike the rest of my way to make it to work on time. I was pissed.
@pacifist1360 I feel your pain. Stupid trains, you think you give yourself enough time but nope. I now live in South Carolina, but still work in NY. I stay at a hotel in union Square. Catching one down to South Street is a nightmare. Always so crowded you can't get on. So I started to bring my skateboard to NY. I found out that if I headed over to west side highway and rode all the way down to south st. I made it there faster than the train. And I was in a better mood to go to work. PS. It's a electric skateboard. That's why it's so fast
There is nothing a new Yorker hates more then literally having the train doors close in front of your face and then having to stand for however long to get the next train
@NYCLive I once threw my water bottle at the doors only for it to perfectly get wedged in giving me enough time to get close enough for when the doors reopened to get on. Also once used my backpack because my arm wouldn't reach so I just slung the damn thing by the strap. Usually any limb on the body works well
as a chicago person, its annoying because the sign says incoming “train in 10 minutes”… “7 minutes”…”3 minutes”… and then it says “due” for a minute before updating and going back up to “5 minutes” for some reason 😤

I've personally witnessed two times, when someone was running at full speed to get through those closing doors and ended up full-on slamming into set already closed doors, head first. So, be careful because that sh*t REALLY hurts. Like, those people definitely did not get back up for a while. I've also seen someone who got his head momentarily stuck between closing bus doors. Of course they opened back up again rather quickly but it did leave the guy quite a severe head ache.
holy!! in paris the doors DO NOT open if you stick your limbs or head (jesus) in there. And I’m sure it’s not the only city. So dangerous. Thankfully they have those double doors at many stations

@@ragnarrooikat am I out of touch? I’ve never had to wait 4hours for the gautrain or even seen anyone run let alone stop the door with their foot and I last used it maybe a month ago
Except in London you do a respectful olympic speed walk to the platform and ONLY run when the train is in sight. Then you sprint for your life only to sit down/grip and defend a pole like your life depends on it just to find out there are signal failures and the train is delayed....😅 Unless its rush hour then it turns into a disaster movie level event of gymnastics 😂
It does even faster. During rush hours there's a train pulling in every 5 min dam near sometimes 3 min intervals. Each train stops for 45 secs and on to the next.
Interesting. I don't live in New York, so I'm mainly just speaking in general, everywhere, all throughout North America. 15 minute intervals should be the longest anyone should have to wait for public transportation. And it should be done before, not after, there is a demand for it. It's a chicken or the egg problem. People are just going to choose to drive cars, even if it bankrupts them, before they use an inconvenient public transportation system.
And if you say that it's not feasible everywhere in the less populated areas, then I agree with you. But that's also part of the problem. We need more areas with a more dense population so that those areas become more affordable.
@ex0stasis72 those 30 min waits are only from delays( stalled train, homeless person being choked to death, track fires, power outages rare) .here in NYC u can get around faster underground than above.i have a car as well but I don't commute with it( too expensive) so the car stays home and I bus and train for work.
Broadway junction be oding. 52 mins, never mind, let me see the next bus when it leaves, which will be a shorter wait time. But still, 52 mins! God dam, yeah, f*ck this social anxiety, I'm getting on.
@Malachi L for sure. Joint comes every 3-6 minutes going to Manhattan. Prob cuz canarsie is not far away. C comes every 12 mins, but yeah it be on some bullshxt at night and weekends when they got work going on.
Here in Berlin the subway comes every 3-5 minutes and people tear the doors apart and run forever to get on it. Edit: Wow I like that I reached so many people so I would like to add the actual information I wanted to give with this: If you give people the opportunity to always be in a hurry then they'll always be. It is the same with all the other issues we have these days. If you give them the opportunity to be offended or to be worried or to be hateful... They'll always be. As a psychologist I can tell you why. Because the human mind can't comprehend the negative. Don't think of a pink elephant... 😉 And always remember that period stress is one of the most dangerous and yet most undervalued sources of illnesses. Be in peace from time to time. 🌹
As a Greek who lives in Athens and takes the Metro frequently, it's absolutely absurd if a train takes even 15 minutes to arrive (Metro trains here run on approximately 6-8 minute intervals, depending on congestion). I also spent a lot of time growing up in the American Northeast, between NY and Philly. Whenever one of my mates complains about the Metro being late, I have the distinguished honor of telling him about the insane timetables of subway systems in the Northeast US. Needless to say, they're always shocked.
here they milk us for money and run a monopoly on transportation with their little bitch pig lapdogs. They constantly raise the fare but never raise quality of service. The big issue now is fare evasion the issue is never shitty service though. Never come here.
@@scenicdepictionsofchicagolife , can confirm. Usually it is around 1:30-3:00, but there are days when on the shortest segments roughly 75 seconds shows up on an arriving timer. We never look up the timetable, bcs when you go underground you expect yourself getting in a train roughly... instantly.
Most Indian metros have trains every 6-8 minutes Mumbai Suburban Railway has 2 minutes between each train and Delhi metro has 5 minute Rapid Trainsits. Never a delay unless theres an emergency.
This is me on the metro north. Running for my life. At least if you miss the subway there will be another one coming ten min later. You miss the metro north - you better reschedule whatever you had to do until next week lol
Nah dude. If you miss that train the next one is 7 minutes away. Then you have to make a connection to yet another train. Force your foot in that closing door. Missing that one train can be the difference between being ON TIME for your job and being TWENTY MINUTES late to work.
They do it because their bosses and companies don’t give a crap about their stressful commute. All they care about is you being there on time even if the subway is a mess. So we run, because the alternative is to get written up or talked to by your crappy boss.
Never been to NYC so Idk. But it’s quite similar to ppl in H.K, every minute every second counts, I been there and only gets to see the ppl “always rushing” and as if I’m the only one in slow motion mode😂🤣
Even tho the mtr is on time 99% of the time and only is actually late when theres a test train or incident I still try to get to the train before it departs because i dont want to wait 4 mins (tml) but i wont try to screw the door open
I live in Wales, our trains have 3 hour gaps and buses average 1-2 hour gaps unless you’re in the city’s where you can get a bus every 30 minutes😅😂 sometimes it’s quicker to walk the 5 miles instead of waiting for the next form of transport, or pay £15-£20 for the said 5 miles in a taxi😶

I haven't been to NYC in years and I still know, dont miss your train. Thank God whenever I'm there I'm not in a hurr, but that walk is not fun if you miss your train.
I use the trains everyday to and from work and this is the norm daily. If you miss one train your chances of getting to work on time is 50%. Trains are delayed very often because of broken rails, police activities, train traffic, sick passengers and many other excuses.
The main reason why all the trains are delayed is because people keep opening the doors when it’s supposed to depart. The train can’t drive when the doors are being opened. If one train is delayed, the whole railway traffic becomes delayed. This doesn’t just affect the passengers, but it affects the loco drivers as well. They miss their lunch time, and they can’t get home on time.
It happens with buses after a full day of work. You finish at 9 p.m. get home around 10:45 . Miss the bus stop as metro don't time well , wait 30 minutes then a 45 minute ride in Quebec
That is why we need barriers like in japan so people wont do this... and then maybe people wont fall or get pushed onto the tracks and maybe trains will be more accurate.
Or the city could implement actual good urban planning and decent public transport? But hey you’re an American looking for a bandaid to fix a problem that could totally be prevented with decent social services
7 minutes is still insane. Even in new Delhi, the trains show up every 3 minutes at the latest.
