10/10 - a really well build character. I would love to see him somewhere in the RE-World again but I he won't reappear since he died in racoon city... :(
For some greed is a powerfull ally and for others it's the worst enemy you can have. It works perfectly for almost every villain. Not only does it fit in Nicholai's case, because UBCS is concidered a bunch of mercenaries, it's also one of the purest or should I say corrupted forms of evil.
Money as motivation for the villain should probably always be a lower villain tier. If you want a simplistic drive for the big bad it should be a form of power. Like joker in dark knight said "gotham deserves a better class of criminal" Or something like that... forgot exact line, but i love how it initially looks like he just wants money but then swerves ya
Most of RE villains mutated into B.O.W to prove that they're the strongest. Nikolai is the proof that you only need to be yourself to become the most evil villain in the series. This is why I like him as a villain.
My favorite RE antagonist. Former SPETSNAZ, He's the only one who took on the heroes, villains and BOWs and came out ahead of all of them since the canon ending of RE3 is his stealing the chopper and escaping(even in RE3R there's a second chopper seen behind him when Jill and Carlos leave him). He got the combat data, killed the other Supervisors(Monitors), stole the helicopter and sold the data back to Umbrella and later on the Black Market, making him exceptionally wealthy enough to vanish-and he didn't even need a super virus injection to do it. He is a rival of HUNK as well as they both share a similar success rate-and lack of their team members coming back. I did like the Nicholai in the original RE3 better than Remake as he's much more subtle and professional, you get the sense that it really is just 'business' to him rather than the Remake's blatantly obvious over the top evil. I wish we knew what happened to him and HUNK after Umbrella fell, maybe even a game of Carlos trying to track Nicholai down.
He's a former russian soldier who joined Spetsnaz. That's all you need to be the most badass motherfcker besides Wesker. I also prefered his cold, calcculated and professional personality in the original game over the "I'm an asshole and proud of it" approach in the remake.
You can’t compare hunk and Nicholas though… hunk was devoted and loyal to umbrella. Nicholas didn’t give two shits about them. He was all about the money and greed
Gotta love Jill's unnecessarily passive aggressive sarcastic tone in the og RE3 idk why people were saying that she was such a bitch in the remake, shes always been angsty.
No shes not, she is always portrayed as caring, responsible and principled character from RE1, RE3 in PS1 and in Revelations. Many have no problem with her new character model, but her sudden bitchy, mean girl, feminist nonsense traits given to her character
@@rdu239 can you explain how in the hell she was "bitchy" or a "mean girl" in the remake? Because I did not see it at all. Swearing doesn't make you bitchy. Also what does feminism have to do with this
@@cuthuluxd5814yeah he's really salty about something and he's really telling on himself. 🤣 Jill has always had strong pro feminine vibes to her character. She came out during a time where female characters would barely be playable main characters and she even headline a title by herself, and she was just as equally capable as her stars peers. She even predates Lara Croft. Jill was always an icon to feminist.
Only bitchy in 3 because she's forced to interact and work with individuals who are working for the company responsible for her first nightmare in re1. Carlos and Co may not have been directly responsible, but seeing as how everyone including her former boss Irons worked to protect umbrella, she didn't know who to trust. She ends up softening up to Carlos and Tyrell as 3 goes on. You can tell she's still caring at first from her interactions with Brad. In the end, after she trusted Carlos, she showed her caring side again by being reluctant to shoot Nicolai and inadvertently shooting Carlos.
It's hilarious when people think Jill was bitchy when the correct term is realistic. Would YOU hastily trust soldiers from a mega corporation where one of their employees leads to you somewhere to get you killed? People are so stupid. Jill actually goes through a character arc in the remake, going from being hostile and distrustful to building a fire-forged friendship with Carlos and realizing that not everyone associated with Umbrella is evil.
Nicholai is one of my favorite antagonists in the series, along with Heisenberg and Lady Dimitrescu. He's just so well-done and doesn't have some grand scheme like many other antagonists. His goal is simple: he likes money. And in his case, the simplicity makes him a great villain.
Canonically he didn't die. The Library files in RE5 reveal that the RE3 ending where Nicholai steals the helicopter and escapes is the correct one. So he is still alive.
The most evil thing Nikolai was killing Murphy, a member of the UBCS unit and lying to Jill that Murphy was infected and that he killed him to stop him turning into a zombie. If it's Carlos who finds Murphy in the original RE3 he is turning and Carlos has to kill him but not if its Nikolai.
In the novel he shot Mikhail pretty much to just watch him die a slow death. Utterly twisted villain so much better then Wesker who just turned into a comic book villain.
The part where you mentioned that Nikolai was dropped into Raccoon City a few day's early reminds me of a report you find in the Police station whilst playing the original RE2. A suspicious individual lurking around the sewer area that drops C4. Maybe that could have been Nikolai.
@@explorinjenkins349 The worst part for me about that part in the book actually wasn't his death, but that he hinted to Jill that he wanted to rape her before killing her to make her death even more miserable and humiliating. 😣
Right Nikolai was underthugging heavily compared to chief irons he was just basically a knock off wesker and wesker was way more out cold since he infiltrated s.t.a.r.s and became their captain
Hello! I'm a new subscriber and I've been binging all your videos and I especially like the explaining evil ones, if I could make a suggestion can you do one for Dr. Marcus? I'd like to know more about his "accident" and just more about him in general. Keep up the good work!
pre-video comment: I have narcolepsy- some days I dont get out of bed. Today I was laying there in a daze, having had alarms go off through the morning, ineffective. Then I scrolled through my phones notifications and saw this. IM UP! Thanks devuh lmfao
His death in RE3 was the most vindicating. Given that all he did was manipulate and disregard other people for his personal gain only to end up failing in the end when he was so close in completing his mission.
He only dies in the alternate ending, the canon version is his taking the chopper and leaving according to the RE5 library files. That's the ending where Barry saves Jill and Carlos.
@@toy5965 Have you played Resident Evil Survivor? It was a terrible game that was poorly made in design and execution! I have nothing against Nicholai, I liked both his original and remake versions. I thought that he was a unique villain amongst the rest in the series!
Assuming Outbreak is still canon(which according to RE7 it is), Nicholai had to be working like clockwork getting from the university to NEST2 in the time right before the nuke
Hey Devuh: another outstanding episode explaining the greedy Nikolai. He needed to die.....he is much like death stroke doing the wrong stuff for the right price. Please when you are able I have a request on. Eveline, and Lucas baker the two main antagonist from re7 can wait. Something really stood out to me RE6 was the worst game in the series but something about their villain Carla Radmes stood out to me. She was a villain true enough but she was made that way after she was not only betrayed and turned into something she wasn't to begin with but violated as well by someone she was in sort of love with .......she was infatuated with simmons and he was infatuated with somone else. .the same someone that carla got turned into
something about your videos give me very much youtube poop humor lmfaoooo especially the nikolai heavy bass edit bits. You get a sub for the niche humor, well done
I believe that the people Nicholai was working for are The Connections. Founded by Brandon Bailey and maybe this is just a precursor to him compiling the necessary resources…he would have been one of the only people with such a grudge towards Umbrella to wish to see them reduced to rubble. He had been there from the beginning alongside Spencer and more importantly his friend/mentor James Marcus. When Marcus was assassinated this threw him into a depression and he ultimately planned his escape (faking his death). At this point taking care of Umbrella was all that was left…and having an operative like Nicholai on his payroll could insure a number of things. One - thoroughness, Nicholai effectively killed everyone on his team by trapping a platoon in with zombies, executing Murphy Seeker, leaving Mikhail to die, shooting Nathaniel Bard and destroying the vaccine to the virus. All that was left was to eliminate Carlos Oliveira and Jill, though the latter he seemed to value for making him more money. Perhaps it’s because her goals aligned with his albeit from a hero’s perspective. Regardless she’s an acceptable loss if it meant his own survival. Two - combat data and any other information he secured for the client (The Connections). B.O.W. Data would be invaluable in their hands alongside anyone else after that information and him securing this info makes him an asset beyond simply cleaning up loose ends. Three - He’s easy to sway. He loves money…he has no moral compass that would be a problem and as long as you outbid anyone willing to employ him you’re set. I think if they wanted to they COULD make this “connection” to the group and bring him back for another game (whether that be numbered or a side game like an Revelations entry). He definitely has the potential to survive this incident given the second chopper on the helipad and previous games (Survivor/RE5) suggesting his survival.
I've never really considered him to be evil. Sociopathic, yes, but not evil, he's just a pureblood mercenary. I'm sure that if you could name the right price, he'd do anything, including saving lives, lol. But this video reminded me of how cool those old school UBCS uniforms were, why couldn't they look like that in R3make?
It would have been cool to see all characters have an alternate or older costume look. Also good point, That would be crazy to see him helping other and saving lives
@@emulation2369, in the RE 3 Remake he stays behind when Raccoon City is nuked from the map. If you refuse to shot him in the end Jill and Carlos die while he escapes. Guess which one of those is canon.
I think Nicola should be played by Michael Fassbender because he was really good as David in Prometheus and alien covenant and he looks like Nikolai from re3 remake
I really like both versions of Nikolai. I’ve always wanted to see him return in a sequel to try and get revenge on Jill. She deserves her own reoccurring enemy. Only problem with remake Nikolai was he overshadowed Nemesis though you can’t really blame him for that lol
@@HeYDeVuH He doesn’t really have a definitive death scene in either version of RE3. I know him still being alive after the remake would be really stretching believability but that’s nothing new for this franchise lol
@@mtb5431 If you look closely at the scene where Carlos and Jill leave him to his fate, there is another chopper on the roof. I think that was to show that he possibly survived!
@@metaldiscipline3955 Hope so. Unfortunately given how Jill’s role in the series is next to nonexistent these days,I’m not expecting Capcom actually going anywhere with that. RE9 would be the perfect opportunity for her to make a comeback but it’s hard to be optimistic.
I think you should've included some information from Operation Raccoon City, I think the game is semi-canon because it mostly lines up with the events of the mainline games. But in ORC you can see Nikolai betray his squad and the umbrella soldiers hate it
Nicholai: Russian, which means he's bad ass. Former Spetsnaz, which means a former member of a special forces unit. A trained soldier, demolitions expert, sniper, close quarter combat specialist whose conscience was allready driven out during basic training, if he ever had such a thing. When it comes to his personality he's a greedy individual, who would gladly sell his mum for the right price. Every fellow soldier is a potential meat shield he can exploit to ensure his own survival and everything he does is calcculated with the intension of getting every payment, reward and promotion for himself. For him emotions are for loosers and only the strong survive. He's a soziopath straight out of the textbook. On a scale from 1-10 I would rate him on a 8/10. Only the leadership of Umbrella and Wesker are more evil than him.
You said it perfectly, the guy was definitely Greedy and would do anything to gain more money. He showed how atrocious he was in RE3 and how he made everyone, even his own comrades, disposable as long as he achieves his goals.
Nikolai is basically a business man doing business, and funny how he could've killed Jill in just a few seconds while nemesis throughout the entire game struggled to touch her
what's with the pouches Carlos has mounted to his plate carrier? the square box pouches? he has 40mm grenade pouches and then these block pouches yet no AR magazines.
You're mistaking terms sociopathy is sth much different than psychopatic behaviours of Nicholai you're describing. Sociopathy is heavily grounded anti-social posture, that relolves around rejecting commonly respected social behaviors and all norms. Sociopaths don't take any pleasure from seeing other people suffering but they also don't hesitate to use the opportunity eg. hummiliating your opponent to get promoted without remorse. This is sociopathy.
Nikolai Zinoviev one of the most greedy and sociopathic villain's in the Resident Evil series, he is in the UBCS in Resident Evil 3 Nemesis, it's remake, Operation Raccoon City, and Outbreak, he is more than just a common soldier he's also a secret monitor/supervisor for the UBCS, before Resident Evil 3 starts he was doing a lot things against the UBCS in Raccoon City, he was killing his own men, watching his men fight B.O.W.s and gather data, destroy all evidence that Umbrella was involved in the outbreak in Raccoon City, he killed all the other monitors to steal there data to make sure he gets a giant payday, he also knows about Nemesis and his job to kill Jill and Brad, he also knows that Umbrella put a bounty on Jill and wants to kill her himself for bonus pay, In the original Resident Evil 3 Nikolai survives it's cannon, but you can die in 2 ways, 1 Nemesis can end up killing him, 2 he can be shot out the helicopter he steals form you, in the Resident Evil 3 Remake there is no solid answer wether Nikolai survives or not, Nikolai Zinoviev is one of my favorite villain's in the Resident Evil series, he was willing to betray everyone just so he could get rich, thank you HeY DeVuH for a great video on Nikolai Zinoviev ✌️
Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City was good for the coop it had, i hope there can be more games that have coop (not pvp) in some fashion, Revelations 1/2 and RE 5 were good cause of 2 player co-op atleast.
Nikolai is the most hilarious and aint shit character in the game. Let me explain. Dude give Jill the middle finger and multiple times and laughed it off with a smile. I have never seen a person more about their money than Nikolai. And at the end of game when he has the nerve, the gull, to ask Jill to spare him in exchange for information. He knew he was lying, Jill and Carlos knew he was lying. Hell, the player knew he was lying. Nikolai really said, "Even though I killed, lied, and screwed over my men and civilians. I left you guys for dead a lot times but lets forget right now. Can you please save my rude ass?" I wish I had the confidence this man has. In conclusion, Nikolai aint shit and will be shit. I love the man as a character.
Original RE 3's Nikolai's canon fate has never been revealed. We don't know whether he was killed by The Nemesis, escaped Raccoon City in a helicopter or whether Jill killed him by shooting it down with him in it because what happens depends on whether you push Nemesis off the park bridge or jump off it into the sewers.
Mercenaries do exist but, Nikolai is a special kind of Mercenary. Obviously he’s a supervisor but he could’ve possibly killed off or used them as bait for the BOW’s. Money seems to co-exist in his mind, the other trying to keep himself alive, and even he is possibly the best actor in the UBCS as he’s managed to keep his role well hidden! To say he’s Evil… well of course he is, he doesn’t care about the safety of his men in his unit, money seems to be the only thing he cares about, and likes to see innocent people be hurt or killed by the BOWs so definitely some sadism within him too
In re3 remake we didn't even see him die which makes me think he survived the missile attack even nest 2 must of had an underground escape train aswel so surely he got out but i think in this timeline he was working for wesker it even said he wanted to sabotage umbrella so for someone who worked for umbrella wanting to make money out of there mess he has no filter anyway hes only doing for money so im guessing he made a deal with wesker without even meeting him money for combat data wich would be used to expose umbrella or to blackmail sergie if he even exists in the remakes into giving him complete access from the red queen but nikolia always thinks a couple of steps ahead when escaping so im guessing he must if activated the underground train before trying for the helicopter so i hope he turn up in a spin off game that'll fill in the blanks abit
I will always prefer the original portrayal of her charater in the Resident Evil 3 Nemesis. In the remake he is so cartoonishly evil that I can't take his character seriously, but he is still a lot of fun in that game too.
Doubtful he would survive, given that the ending of RE3 is always set minutes before Raccoon City was nukec into oblivion. Also, even if he managed to secure a helicopter of his own, his aircraft would've been caught in the explosion causing him to crash and die.
@@HeYDeVuH the RE5 files have the ending of his stealing the helicopter as the canon ending, in Remake there's also a second helicopter behind him after Jill and Carlos leave. There's no confirmation of his death though other than his alternate death to nemesis based on player choice, but since the Barry rescue of Jill and Carlos is confirmed in RE5, that means that death is non canon since if you pick that path Barry doesn't fly in.
Not a fan of Nikolai in the Remake as he was portrayed as the stereotypical evil and obnoxious character in 90's film dialed it up to 10; bad just for the sake of looking bad and unlikable
Of course he was evil. The guy killed so many people... Although his character was way better and mysterious in the original. The remake explained his motives way way to much. Although Mikhail was just as evil. He set in motions the events of hunk he helped transport the tyrant. He just had a change of heart during the raccoon city incident. Nikolai just was evil the whole time.
