Hi Robin, I have a video suggestion for you! Maybe pick your 10 best photos ever, tell us their story, maybe the post-processing, photography tips to get something similar and so on. I've seen some great photos from you in these years, I would love to see your very best ones.
Thanks for the suggestion! I think I will share more on photo-projects. It is not about showing the best photos, but being able to show them in a series and tell a story.
Exactly! Give us some tips on how you "see" a photo, your decision making, what compositions work, what falls flat, etc. I understand that such videos typically do not get as many views as a "tips" video, but your loyal subscribers will appreciate it.
Hang on in there Robin. You have a lot of support from people who enjoy what you bring to life both with your knowledge and insight as well as your enthusiasm for photography, m4/3 and LIFE!
I love this video, it feels so personal. Lockdowns are hard on one's mental health, especially when your business if suffering. I don't think anyone should expect you to entertain us with high quality photographic content while you're in lockdown. This video format is great, your subscribers can talk to you, you can talk to us, and hopefully we can all spread some happiness in these difficult times.
Hi Robin great video, I can't believe OM digital can treat you the way they have. You must have been responsible for the sale of hundreds if not thousands of Olympus cameras and lenses with your inspirational reviews and tutorials. OMD should be grateful you are a true fan of their gear. I bought my EM1 Mk 2 based on your and Jimmy Changs reviews you have never given poor advice, keep up the good work and hope lockdown eases soon for you. Stay safe and thanks for the great videos
Strange that OMDS should ignore one of Olympus's foremost and faithful visionaries. Your videos were one of the reasons I had got into the MFT system with my EM10 MK2 and 25mm f1.8.
Nothing to tweak, nothing to alter. You are you, you speak plain, you speak honest. Perfect, Robin, that is perfect. Whoever is not liking that series has the free choice not to listen to it. From my side of the planet a big thank you, well done and please keep doing what you do. Regarding the business ditch: push through, this situation will clear out many other businesses, so those who survive will have enough work for years. I've been through that with 3d animation services and came out of the recession many years ago stronger than I went in... keeping my fringers crossed for the same happen to you. Stay strong!
When all this hell started and my event related business collapsed, one person gave me very usable advise: focus on opportunities only. Ofc her advise was rejected. But then I started to think and few months later my first book was released and now it was selled in decent amount of copies. And also it helped me to find a very fine job. So I'm pretty happy now. And I wish you to find your way out of this trap too!
Hey Robin. Keep speaking to us. I get you need to get through this rough patch, which will pass. Your enthusiasm and joy in what you do is an inspiration. Fingers crossed you can get out soon and get re-inspired! 🤞
Great video Robin, looking forward to more of the same. Fantastic that you are doing this for us when you are in the situation you are in. I hope the lockdown ends soon so you can get back to exercising & shooting outdoors again. Keep your spirits up, because you certainly keep ours up. Thank you.
Hi Robin, i think the BEST i can say is i understand, i agree you go your own pace and please receive all muy support, this new idea is great, feel more personal, the sensation i get is a closer Talk to a person Ive been getting knowledge from which is something i apprecciate, cheer Up and Big thank you
Thanks Andres for understanding, and I appreciate you just being here. More videos coming soon too.

Thank you Robin for making great content and inspiring people to take more photos. I really appreciate your work as a Olympus visionary and honest opinions from various photography related things. Keep on doing what you do and I'm truly hoping that situation gets better soon at Malaysia so that you can do what you love. Best wishes from Helsinki, Finland.
Hey Robin, I am on the same boat, I got the lens two days AFTER the launch, yet no camera either. But frankly to correct your comment, not many ambassadors have the new lens/camera either, only a handful of them had, Peter included, but only for two days and very close to launch too, so he kind of rushed it. I think there's some miscommunications somewhere but OMDS has been restructured and the 'channels' we used to communicate is not longer there and there are too many broken links.
Well I counted a dozen or more reviews out there, and some of them got information about 8-25mm PRO a month before launch. I am perfectly fine not getting the products for early review, as you have said and I agreed, things are different now and I can accept that. But I think we all should be informed about newcoming products. How can we do our jobs as ambassadors when people ask us about the new products and our answers are "I don't know?" It reflects poorly on us, as if we aren't doing our jobs, and it reflects poorly on the brand too! I am not asking for the information to come like super early, but maybe few days before launch? Like a press release statement which was usually given to the media before launch! That would have made a whole world of difference.
@@robinwong I agreed. I don't even have the spec either! In UK, I am kind of used to not receiving all info... yeah, believe me. I may got the products, but often I had to ask other people outside of Olympus to make my videos better as I simply couldn't get an answer. That's before though, but now, worst, I don't know launch date, product specs no launch statement... etc. All ambassadors should get the same ahead of the announcement, with or without products, we should get the same info as retailers, news agents. I hope OMDS realise it this time and rectify for future launches. But have to say that the worldwide ambassador program is a little.... weird these days. I think they are restructuring again and you may see some people go and new members as the direction of the products have shifted towards wildlife and outdoor.
Robin, you've essentially mastered a genuine and contagious online personality, and you've developed a loyal following via your "realness" and inspirational photography videos. And you did all that with an unpopular camera brand in the US, from Malaysia. If I had to guess, the reason you may have been "forgotten" is because you're naturally, too excitedly, honest. Perhaps it's the other conversations down the road - roadmap questions, camera releases that are just repackaged gimmicks, etc., that are not what JIP want you officially, honestly reacting to. Your willingness to challenge the industry at large, the hype marketing of other RU-vidrs, etc., is why your viewers trust you, and also why you might need to be more creative than other RU-vidrs with regards to securing your income/product review streams. Keep going and growing dude. Chin up.
Thank you for sharing such a deeply personal message, Robin. While you work through your situation at your own pace and in your own way, please know that you in turn are helping others make their way. I can feel the frustration and depression in your voice, yet you’ve still managed to provide us with another informative, inspiring, and uplifting video. I don’t think anyone can watch you and come away without a smile. You are a gift to us and our community.
Really like the new format of your videos, checked ep. 2 before this. Agree with the problems of being able to keep the motivation when the conditions change and you are limited to your own 4 walls. For me, it is my health that limits my activities and then it is, among other things, your youtube clips that give time meaning when I can not use it for activities. I have spent many hours in company with you, Peter Forsgård, Rob Trek, Jimmy Cheng and Matti Sulanto learning about m 43 and photography through the years I have now been ill. So thank you for the time you spend sharing your knowledge and the style of your youtube studio suits you perfectly.
Yes, I can understand how hard it can be in lockdown. I still can't believe why they didn't send you a sample of the 8-25 f4 no matter the situation. Olympus does not know how much money you have helped me spend on their gear. I'm not sure I want to buy that lens but you are very good at showing off the advantages of a piece of kit. Their bad.
Thanks Evan, appreciate the kind words and show of support. It is ok, whether I get the review unit or not, life goes on. I have pre-ordered the lens and it will come in due time.
@@robinwong I look forward to the review. I hope someone at JIP wakes up and gets you a copy before that happens. Your reviews and in particular the images on your blog helped me pull the trigger on a number of lenses. Someone was asleep at the switch this time. I got into Olympus first from Ming's blog and then from your continuation and expansion of the M4/3 side. The fact they forgot you makes me feel like an unforgotten customer. I hope they correct that.
I wonder if OMD Digital Solutions didn't include Malaysia in the announcement and test samples of the new gear because of the lockdown and Malaysia's law against photography outside? Perhaps they were concerned about what would be considered breaking the law and didn't want to cause issues for visionaries there? I hope things improve for you soon. Life is quickly becoming more normal here in the US since the vaccine rollout.
I had the same thought in regard to the sample items. But yes, they could have at least furnished information. If your rep didn't know, then it does sound like a main office intern screw-up. Let's just hope they patch that so there are no repeats.
This one is possibly the longest one I watched in this channel as your videos are usually within 15 minutes. Well done. Looking forward to more upcoming episodes of this series.
This seems to be a good idea Robin and seems to work well. So much more relaxed and a chance to cover more of your thoughts. Hope your lock down ends soon.
Either an intern screwup (unlikely) or an intentional decision. Who knows at this point? And I honestly don't care any more. I will still do what I do here, that's not going to change.
Man, I can feel your pain. it must be really frustrating for you to be in such a heavy lockdown. Here in the Netherlands, we all complain about the rules while compared to the rules in your country, they are peanuts. I hope that you can see the light at the end of the tunnel, as the lockdown will end. Keep up with this new RU-vid concept, and I will keep watching it. Thanks so much.
I will stay tuned and and continue to support your channel as long as you care to talk to us. I sympathize with your situation. Thanks for hanging in there and not giving up. Be well.
Keep going with the series Robin!! I liked this video a lot. By the way, OMDS should take care of their visionaries, all of them. The 2 cameras and various lenses that I bought since I met you are all from Olympus. Latest is the M5-III with 12-45 which I love. That's all my gear, all from Olympus, and all because of Robin Wong. I'm pretty sure you are responsible of many Olympus gear purchases.
I very well understand your frustration, I´m locked down to. At least I can work from my computer, I teach electrical engineering at a university and I'm doing it via online now. Keep your spirit high. I wish you the best.
Love this format. Your presentation skills have grown so much you feel so comfortable in front of the camera. Sorry to hear about the 8-12mm snafu, that is very disappointing. I hope they correct this for any future announcements.
Thanks Ed. I am still quite uncomfortable in front of camera, took a lot of reshoots/retakes, but I guess I do improve a little over time. Thanks for being here
Hi Robin! I recently decided to dip my toes into the mft world and purchased an M5iii because i’m simply getting too darn old to haul around my heavy Sony glass. And man, I can’t tell you how thankful I am for your tips and tutorials! At this point, I think I owe you not just a cup of coffee but a whole espresso machine or a week’s salary of a private barista or something.🤣 Anyway, thanks for all the great content and off to the Patreon link I go…
Robin thank you for this wonderful new series that you are making. Hopefully the lockdown will ease and will be eliminated so that you can enjoy once again your passion. Best wishes!
Wow those spider shots are amazing! Sorry to hear that Olympus are playing silly buggers with you, hope you can get the situation resolved mate as you are such a great ambassador for the brand. Great idea for the new video series, Subscribed. Good luck for the future Robin.👍🇦🇺😎🙏
So the thing I still don’t get is that you don’t even give your Olympus Visionaries a specific budget per year that they can spend freely on new gear. Robin, without you and Peter Førsgard I would never have bought my first EM10-3 and recently my EM1-2 with both pro lenses to cover 14-150. It’s the two of you who make the inspiration video’s and show us all the possibilities with the gear. But as well, you push me unknowingly to create better pictures each time. Keep on going, lockdowns ain’t easy, but your community is here for you with their online support!
I really do enjoy your videos and helped me a lot in choosing Olympus as my digital system. I will be honest, my second system is Fuji. Thanks for your so many helpful information. Hopefully, Covid will do us some favor by disappearing and let us work as we love.
Great video, Robin. I really liked the format. On the GODOX question, yes, it is compatible with both Olympus and Panasonic bodies. I use the TT350o with the pro transmitter. This is a small TTL flash, very useful.
I enjoy the content of your chanel no matter what. A lot to learn about photography but also about resilience. Wishing you the best. Greetings from Sweden
RobinSpeaks is a great idea. Please keep it up. A weekly livestream would be even better! On the EP-7: no EVF or accessory EVF is a deal breaker for me. Not sure why Olympus abandoned the EVF for Pen cameras (except Pen F). Assume there is a sufficient market for an EVF-less Pen model to make it economically worth their while, but not for me.
Wow this is a great format! Amazing, especially replying our comments, I like that, well done Robin. I listen to this while working or driving. Thumbs up 👍🏻
The 60mm f2.8 macro is my favourite lens! I just love it. Excellent photo of that spider. It seems you do have plenty of inspiration after all, a spider shot and a talking head video all in one 😉 You'll be fine.
Hi Robin. I really enjoyed this format. I hope you are able to continue this and your other videos as you provide a great deal of interesting topics. I hope your lockdown is over sooner than later.
I live in the US, but I’ve been to Japan in August. One thing that struck me was even in air conditioned spaces the temperature was 10-15 degrees F higher than you would find in an air conditioned space in a US business or home. Maybe Maylasia is similar? I’m sure I’d be sweating profusely in Maylasia. Don’t worry too much about what others think. They should just be grateful for their privilege and their comfort, instead of being petty and critical.
I really enjoyed this. Thanks! I'm interested in what you think of the new lens. I think it's an odd zoom range and would prefer to match my 12-40mm with the 7-14mm. Stay well and I hope you'll be able to get out soon.
Thanks Bob. I cannot give my comments on the lens yet, I don't want to be one of those RU-vidrs who rant on and on without having proper experience shooting or using the products. I have pre-ordered the lens so in due time I will make my review. Please stay with me!
For anyone looking for a really great wrist strap, I can recommend the Peak Designs one. It comes with 2 quick release discs so it's easy to swap to different cameras and it's very comfortable. I've used it all over the world (including Malaysia) and can't fault it.
Robin don't feel too much pressure to keep putting out content. If you have to, take a couple weeks off. Make plans for when things reopen. Its too hard to do anything in a lockdown as its limiting and depressing. When you finally get freedom to put something out worthwhile your viewers will jump on it straight away. You do great work. We arent going anywhere. Chin up brother!
The ep7 is not even available in the USA yet. I was surprised there is multiple colors. The lens might be more exciting then the camera. However it's a very tempting purchase. I thought that too you are looking good. How about making a video on your testimonial from engineer to photographer? Let me tell you that people like you are what makes this community GRRREAT!!
Thanks Joan. I have no control over the subtitles. I have enabled community contribution. So if someone from Spain can send in the subtitles, I am sure it will be updated.
This was a good video, Robin. Glad to see the jumping spider made for a good muse. They are a favorite subject of mine, as I really like them. If you upgrade your gear in the near future.... I recommend four large drones. You can tie them to a lawn chair & make your escape. :vD Regards!
Lets start by saying ' You are doing good, Robin. And we love your work ' So next, Lockdown says > Macro, and perhaps what's happening above you ( weather/clouds ). As for commercial work, maybe write a book, on all OMD camera's, their up and downs, and your experience. Perhaps some new creative ideas while working out older creative ideas. Go on your own speed. Keep in touch with us in your usual way !!! >>> Love your positivy
Robin, you can do it! Always loved your videos, hoping for better situation as soon as possible! 😊 P.S. love the picture of the spider, amazing detail!
Am shocked by what is going on in Malaysia with lockdown, hard to believe I was there as a tourist just over 2 years ago. I found 3 weeks of our first UK lockdown hard enough let alone the 3-plus months it became, then the second lockdown and now the third that is being extended. We have to learn to live with the virus. It's not good nor is it natural for humans to be cooped up away from social interaction and in a small confined space. Stay strong, Robin, we all sympathise with the situation you are in, which is totally outside of your control.
I can't imagine. I can't help but think these videos will help you manage the mental challenges of your lockdown. I'll be watching. As a novice photographer, I've been looking for content relating to composition and post processing. I know you've done some of that already but more would be welcome. Keep "doing this"!
Thanks for being here and I appreciate that. I have indeed talked about composition and post-processing. However I also quickly realize that these two components are highly personal, and I need to allow my audience/other learning photographers to explore their own styles and experiment. I do want to focus more on the story-telling aspect of photography, or how to see/find interesting subjects. Focusing on "what" to shoot, rather than "how" to shoot. I think a lot of photographers miss that, and not many channels/photographers talk about this topic.
Hi Robin Thank you for your new video series, if they are as good as this one, they will be a regular watch for me. You have been very creative in what is clearly a restrictive lock down by coming up with the new series. With regard to you not receiving the Olympus Pen E-P7 I read on peta pixel that it is only being released in Japan and Europe, so maybe there isn't an example to test in Malaysia? No idea about the 8-25mm f/4 though unless they didn't want to tempt you to go out and break Malaysian Lockdown laws, as your style isn't to produce a hollow review. Whilst you can't go out and take amazing pictures for your channel, could I suggest photo editing software reviews. The software doesn't need to cost any money, if you start with Olympus Workspace, and there are free download trial software for most of the other applications available. Hopefully looking at some of your back catalogue of photographs will also help to remind you of the good times that will be coming once these lockdown ease. You might even end up with a to do list for when you can go out and take photographs again. I for one would like to see your existing photo editing workflow. Looking forward to your next episode in this series. Malcolm
@@robinwong So then, you didn't name it? I saw a video where a guy referred to one as his pet and actually "fed" it a fly that it jumped to on his arm. But at least you have a free live-in model for a while.
