Marketing is the thing that scares me trying to pursue art. Marketing feels primative and unnatural to me, and i struggle hard to "speak" in a salesman type of way without feeling and portraying that im a porcelain dole trying to recite a script. Hate it. Massively.
Honestly, the part of this video that touches on the importance of specialty is absolutely true. If you can adapt and stylize your work. Then post some fan art for "popular fandom Y", then that will probably help a lot with marketing. It won't yield instant results. But it will put your name out there. For example, one of my mates is an reptile/scalie artist. And it took him a hot minute to find an audience. But then the combination of war hammer fantasy taking off (lizard men) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles having a another surge in popularity. Led to him finding some solid success. So luck and circumstance does play a role. But finding your niche is gonna do a lot of good.
Every time you publish a video I fall deep into the dilemma if I should just go to bed and watch it tomorrow, or sacrifice some sleep time and watch it immediately because I know it will be good and I can't resist the interest. Difficult life choices.
i have been wanting to learn basic marketing for my art online for a while but the Neurodivergency tm makes it hard to listen to any videos out there cause theyre so incredibly underestimulating, having this information delivered in a format i can watch without getting distracted and by someone whos literal dayjob is marketing is incredibly valuable, thank you celestia youre amazing 💟
Was kinda hoping you'd touch on the recent trend of sliding into people's dms uninvited and trying to harass them into commissioning you. It's been happening a lot lately on Facebook and Twitter, and it's really annoying 😣
Also folks, keep in mind that sometimes, no matter how hard you market, even if you’re doing everything “right”, you might still get no sales. That’s just… unfortunately, how it is. You’re dependent on so many factors outside of your control. All you can do is increase your odds of success.
I’m actually glad that you touched on this because I remember you mentioning multiple times about marketing but I felt stuck with what to look for on my own. Before I found your channel, I tried finding marketing on my own and it was mostly artists that are graphic design and not really specific for what I’m looking for which is more commissioned work. I think this has the best information being told to me that’s straight forward and not lingering on info that I need. The way I’m getting this is that it’s more about the people and how people see your art and brand is what I’m getting at. My question is how do you separate general life stuff to vent posts? I’ve had a problem before where I would vent to my audience right in the moment and ever since I stopped doing that my posts have been more bland when I talk about my personal life because I’m afraid that the venting side is going to get back out again.
Thank you so much for this I’ll be coming back to it often. I’ll admit a lot of this advice makes me want to curl into a ball and cry but that’s not on you Celestia just how scary the hustle is in general. Keep up the great work :3
Thank you very much for this video. I am always afraid that trying to sell my art will result in me drawing something I don't like all the time just to get someone to pay for it. And generally, people just say "you need to promote yourself” leaving me with methods that seem uncomfortable for me or too sudden (which scares me even more because of the amount of work, skills and mistakes it will take). This video really helped me to understand what way is better to take with every goal in mind and I don’t feel that lost anymore. This comment may seem too dramatic, but I am just so happy that I now found a video I can go too if I’m scared to start something with my marketing, since it, not only somehow gives me motivation I lack, but explains everything calmly and with examples so that the task looks more manageable.
great vid! unfortunately, my autistic brain will shove this into the deepest recesses of my mind and only come back under extremely specific circumstances that I'll never know
I don't know if it's borderline impossible to figure out the algorithm, I've found that one possible surefire way to increase traffic is timing, A good one is to figure out is when people will be looking at social media most. My experience is early ungodly morning hours or somewhere around Five in the evening, IE, the time just about everyone is getting home from work and just mindlessly scroll through their feeds, or when people are getting ready to leave for work.
This video was incredibly helpful ❤ thank you so much for making it! I’m quite bad at marketing and very lost when it comes to the business side of creativity. Hearing about how you compartmentalize your different niches was also very helpful. I’ve been struggling with that a lot lately.
This video was definitely very useful with helping me realize I need to also put effort into advertising instead of just hoping I’ll somehow manage, big thanks to that
I've been trying to market my art but it's really hard especially on platforms such as tiktok. Is it genuinely possible to be successful without marketing on tiktok? I'm kinda tired of trying on there because people are just bullying me for my art or being unnecessarily rude and I'm pretty sensitive to stuff like that and I don't wanna lose motivation as I'm currently trying to start selling prints of my art.
I'm self taught, and don't think I'm at the point of being able to do commissions yet. But I have thought about trying to see if I could do content based around the journey to get better, and promote a kofi tip jar to request specific characters as a doodle. Or taking suggestions and just promoting a tip jar in general at first. Your content on this topic gets my brain working on ways that I could get into ways to earn some money using art, while keeping my goals realistic. Thank you Celestia!✨
I will be the first to admit I am horrible at marketing myself/art/slkills and wish they had of done a better job of teaching any marketing besides an optional marketing module that filled up after 20 people😶
This was a very informative video thanks celestia :) I've wanted to ask, is it okay to post your commisions? Or do you have to ask permission to do so? I know it's your art but is it still yours to share and post if you sold it off? /genq
Thank you for making this video! I'm definitely going to implement these tactics into my marketing strategy! The art drawn in this video is also SUPER CUTE! Love the colors1
Does this method apply to posting social media aswell ? I've taken some down time to watch your videos to get into learning better methods to market myself as an artist/animator and you bring out the best advices ever!
Hey! I really feel this video was very helpful! I was wondering though if anyone has any discord servers they recommend for selling commissions? I’m already in one and would like to join more!
