Why not both? I for one can get behind a Space Marine empowered by a fragment of a Primarch's soul AND going batshit crazy from being stuck in the Warp for so long yet still remained uncorrupted by its effects. Tbh I consider the idea of going nuts from being in contact with the Warp for to long whilst still being sane enough to look at the Forces of Chaos as your enemy to be a interesting flex on them. You can break Draigo's mind, but you'll never break his spirit and desire to murder you all in Big-E's name.
the "have you eaten a tangerine" is a reference on the same series when he literally swallows a star... therefore i recommend to name said star in 40k lore to tangerine, or the tangerine system
why not both! have Draigo go silly after years in the warp just like the tts version of him while introducing the good Magnus shard storyline because Magnus needs a consistent enemy that unlike the space wolves is not driven by pure unfiltered pettiness
@@stevensanders6696 Ya, he was miserable with guilt so he wanted to be punished. That being said had Leman not been such a single minded destroyer Magnus could of been pulled back from the cliff edge an brought back into the fold.
I was going to counter you with another awesome TTS quote, but there’s too many to choose from... Edit: Although, all those chicken gags at Magnus’s expense do provide some great roasting material...
@@amogus1415 Arguably they belong there and aren't necessarily Psycic in the way a human is. So I suppose it depends what the lore will develop into with this rift powering Psykers up. I'm speculating old lore based on new stuff that's unfinished so could go anywhere I guess. But people less powerful than an average grey Knight have been through the warp and fought demons.
@@AvACyberSecurity the demons are described as suffering outside of the warp and it requires more warp power to keep them there, the higher tier demons even more so and that is why it’s easier to summon the small boys. Removing the warp from demons also suffocates them, so they are way more powerful in their own realm. Edit: I think that justification would work if GW went in that direction, it just doesn’t add up right now imo
@@raxy0163 As I said I'm speculating on what hasn't been finished yet. But also, nothing anywhere states daemons are more powerful. In fact, the same thing would apply for them now with the rift but it doesn't. Which is why I'm saying what I am. They are warp energy but not all command such energy. A grey Knight would especially and supreme grand master. It's all relative and yet some is subjective in how we read parts of lore that is incomplete or new. This is old lore but seriously could change the theory depending on where this rift boosting psychic powers goes. As a writer there are various was I'd like to take this but so much of it has Implications. That's what makes the crap GW books crap. No thought of the Implications to basic lore. A bit like the simple description of Sanguinius in early HH books. Not lore but very contradictory. I just hope they give thought to wider lore when developing this news rift storyline.
@@Quintus_Fontane FEAR NOT MY FRIEND! For TTS is like a grate master that was forced in to hiding to avoid his enemy's, but one day, ONE DAY HE SHALL RETURN!!!
I actually love the fact that he’s so overpowered that demons hide from him it’s just like the Matt ward issue. He overdid it with every little thing. Matt:”and there’s the ultramarines and they are the most reasonable marines.” Fans:”ok awesome hell yeah.” Matt:”they are also the best fighters.” Fans:”well hold up now that seems a bit muc….” Matt:”AND EVERY OTHER SPACE MARINE WANTS TO BE THEM! CALGAR ONE SHOTS A AVATAR OF KHAINE! THEY CAN BOTH NOT BE KILLED AND CAN KILL ANYTHING!”
@@RagnarTheGrey oh they’re great it was just under ward they were to much. Now they’re becoming better because their intense favoritism towards logic is being shown as BOTH a strength and a flaw whereas before it was basically “ultramarines are always right.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if he was originally either gonna have Calgar be this OP or have Draego be in Calgar’s place as the chapter master of the Ultramarines.
I like that Draigo exists - it's basically GW saying that memes should be a part of 40K so enjoy. It's one of the few things keeping humor in 40K, along with the Orks, everything else is so serious grimdark that we need the absurd memes to match it and bring back the fun.
Memes were always a part of 40k. Just remember rogue trader: the Inquisitor Obiwan Sherlock Clousseau, dancing space marines, the custodes being naked out of embarrassment and Gazhkull being a parody of Margaret Thatcher just to mention some
I love Draigo, may be insanely over the top but that's one thing Warhammer does so well - no one ever complains the emperor or primarchs are overpowered and big E created the space marines knowing full well that chaos would be the largest threat to humanity, no grey knight has ever fallen to chaos, emps has saints like Celestine so he could be powering Draigo with psyker powers too, carving a name on Mortarions heart and setting fire to his real is nuts, just fruity as a tangerine, have you ever eaten one because I have, also did some coke so gonna play space marine now and kill more orks than a space marine should be able to, I sure hope leandros doesn't suspect me of witchery and report me to the inquisition
First time I heard of kaldor draigo was a animated video. That one involved alot of warp dust and a daemon prince talking in a high pitched voice like he breathed a entire tank of helium while wearing a bunny mask. ... Good times
@@Badchi I think that on Newgrounds you can still find the videos. I'm sad that we will probably never see the Ostrogoths again, I loved Regular Marines as well.
He better have a shard of the emperor. Emperors defiance for example. He defies all chaos so Hard that he can casually walk around in The home turf of chaos uncorrupted.
*Him being that stong actually makes sense!* At least kinda.. Hear me out: Psykers got their power from the warp, that's why many of them straight up explode when they go inside the ralms of chaos. That is also the reason why the great rift had such a huge impact on characters like the emperor. Imagine being inside the warp without overcharging and straight up dying like most psykers do. You can become a god if you have the capacity to control warp powers without ripping apart
He continues to wreck the Realms of Chaos and chances are that he probably destroyed several hundreds of thousands of different Daemons, and he pretty much the Doomslayer of Warhammer universe, and boy does it shows that he continues to be a utter badass with the slightest ease.
He used the true name to weaken him. It was a secret passed down. He then carved the name Janus onto Mortarion's heart after wrecking him using his true name. Before that, he was getting his ass kicked.
@@reynoire9681 He used the true name to weaken Mortarion as that had power over him. It was a pretty 1 sided fight before that point. Lazy writing, but it was psychically implanted in him but he couldn't access it for whatever reason until he was in that fight with Mortarion. The grey knights had apparently discovered it a long time ago but it's kept secret by the upper ranks I think (been a while since I read the story).
@@reynoire9681 Deamons, even the Chaos Gods. Are followed by one absolute unchallenging rule: If ANYONE knows your real name, and is able to say it. You are now bonded at the service of that person you like it or not. By knowing Deamon Mortarion's true name you make him your bitch.
I still think TTS's explanation for his powers is the funniest. That he's part C'tan (The soul eating gods of the Necrons ) and was made by the Big E and the Deceiver ( an experiment that went way out of hand as you can see ) Like, for TTS it explains everything he does in both the lore and TTS itself. Like eating a fricking sun or beating the shit out of Magnus in under a second
What if Kaldor is actually the Starchild in mortal form? Perhaps that is why he knows Mortarion's true name.. because his soul is part of the emperor's whole and remembered the warp demon that was used to make Mortarion
TTS did propose a shard of the Other being stuck inside of Draigo at its end ... a collaboration between the Deceiver and Emps ... So yeah the Shard of something being stuck in Draigo as an explanation of his Garry Stue status is a favored explanation that would work in the setting
@@rexlumontad5644 And only have that power in the material realm, against psychic phenomena and especially in the unreality of the warp they don't have any resistance.
@@overlord2495 Huh. They appear to have taken it down. It's still up on NewGrounds and here is an unauthorised re-upload ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fSBNeATSmKY.html
The Grey Knights have been my favorite SM chapter since 03, when they were just Codex: Daemonhunters, and even before the Spiritual Liege went all hammy on their backstory, with the Sisters, and all. I usually like Draigo, I suppose, and found his TTS presentation wonderful! I see him as am amplification of how I used to see the Grey Knights. Back then, when I believed we would never get Custodes models, I envisioned the Grey Knights as their stand in; shiny, silver super-marines with similar Spears, strapped on guns to keep their hands free, and special powers. They were to Astartes what Space Marines were to Guardsmen, and so they had to be ridiculous. As their leader, and all that taken to eleven, we get Draigo. I know not everyone liked him, or the Grey Knights, but I still think they are great!
Admittedly I'm not a big Drago fan, but the short story "Mortarion's Heart" helps reduce the Mary Sue aspect of Drago's defeat of the Daemon Primarch. It explains how he knew Mortarion's true name and helped to justify the victory. Still kinda jank, but at least it was something thought out rather than just "Ward magic".
The thing with the true name's of the daemon Primarchs is an interesting topic. For One: are their true name's the one given by her Creation like Conrad Kurze and Pertrerabo or new ones their receive with their ascension's? And Two: would that mean that the Emperor had full control of his fallen Son's? So or so, he know their true name's and was the ultimate master of finding daemon names, like on Horos ship during the Siege.
Giving Kaldor the shard of Magnus also gives us a shortcut to "another Primarch." Given his deeds, the shard, along with the existing knowledge that the Grey Knights are of the Emperor's geneseed I think that would make him a defacto Primarch lol. Personally, I like this idea if for no other reason that Magnus will do something besides hassle the Space Wolves like some loser who is mad he got bounced from a club.
Let's not forget that if the recent chaosgate game is canon to the universe, he didn't just beat mortarion once, but twice on his home turf with the help of a handful of other gray knights.
I'd really like a real life history of 40k 30k like when things were added like wasn't Horus originally just a general that betrayed the emperor ? Like I'd like to see how it evolved into what it is now
I would add, that the shard increases in power each time it passes to a new gran master, as it retains to power of the former grand master or a part of their soul gets stuck into the shard due to some sort of warp shit with Magnus. That would explain why Draigo is more powerful than the grand masters that came before him.
So basically, going off on your previous video of a Primarch being Chaos Gods, Magnus is the god of Madness and Insanity. And the Chaos Gods are scared of Kaldor not because he's awesome, but because they have a literal unhinged lunatic on the loose. Perfect!
Seeing that tts reel really made me realize how much my image of draigo was reshaped by that series. Also seeing all those clips together convinces me it'd be best to have him go insane
Once again, another great one! Thanks for always putting out videos that are awesome, easy to follow, have lots of canon info, and that are funny as hell sometimes, due to your personality and style. Keep up the fantastic work my brother. Have a great time on vacation and stay safe. C-ya when ya get back. Peace!
Draigo being in the warp is like the same effect as a daemon being in real space his real space presence weakens daemons at their source making them even more pathetic. So the curse had the opposite effect on Draigo, empowering him and weakening anyone he encounters.
Kaldor is a magician so he doesn't have to explain his secrets. Hands do not exist in his reality though. But he's still a Giga Chad Grey Knight that is so badass inspite of the memes. But let's not forget his Ordo, Ordo Drago you provides hams to everyone. Edit: I think his OP stuff from within the Warp is thanks to himself being a Psyker and drawing power directly from the Warp energy all around him, basically giving him unlimited power.
Usually majorkill is more accurate. Draigo watched the grand master die from a distance, his paladin squad survived and they then held commune and elected his a supreme grand master more as a sacrifice against Morty to buy time rather than because he's due it. he is then given the true name of mortation by the gks chief librarian, he fought and barely won Vs him and I mean barely only winning using Purifying flame to make a distraction in Morty's defences then used the true name intended for him to beat him
That little girl accidentally solving Tzeentch’s maze at least made sense in the setting’s own rules, though it’s not explained as the story assumes the reader knows about the Warp’s nature already. Her mind was too simple to pay any heed to the maze’s complexity and the Warp’s nature therefore causes the maze to conform accordingly. Kaldor Drago’s lore breaks the rules. His mind is far too complex to convince himself enough to affrct the Warp relative to himself, and he’s a psyker, which makes him schmuck bait in the Warp regardless of whether his spirit is strong enough to remain uncorrupted. The only person we know of with an advanced mind capable of the things Drago did in the Warp would be Rogal Dorn, who disbelieved Chaos’s very existence so strongly that Chaos literally could not exist in his presence. Daemons and stuff just stopped existing when he showed up. Not sure if he ever learned that the Chaos stuff was real or if he thought everyone else was just being ridiculous. Oh, and since he’s a Primarch he is also an extremely powerful but extremely specialized psyker.
@@leeschulken8744 Hasn't Fabius Bile also canonically encountered the Chaos gods in person and then turned around saying they were just Warp manifestations?
He was probably able to do all the crap in the warp because Grey knights are known to be effectively uncorruptible, and because he had unlimited access to warp energies giving his psychic powers a huge boost.
TTS Is what got me into thousands of hours of warhammer lore, its like having a favorite actor then reading up on all the actual cool shit they did in their lives. Drago is up there, hes like if the musclebound custodes, the emperor and rogal dorn all had a baby. Hes beautiful. But I gotta say, top 5 in no particular order vulcan, rogal, custodes, the skitarii and magnus. The number one spot is only a one time thing, but Santodes. "skitarii... let me enter your TEMPLE..." "access g-g-g-gg-g-g-granteddddd."
I thought black library already has hinted at the fact Kaldor has gone a little wonky and that’s why he’s been able to survive the warp along with the fact that the warp is psychic energy and kaldor has learned to harness it boosting his powers. Which made him go crazy in the first place, since logic and reason don’t necessarily follow like it does in the materium, reforge his sword and go tip toeing through Nergel s tulips. You’re welcome for that image.
I feel like Kaldor Draigo is meant to be the Doom Slayer of 40k, in which case he needs at least a sentence of backstory as to how and why he became a singularity of absolute badassery and it could work.
There is another possibility, after being exposed to the Warp for so long he may have become a Warp Entity or has been further enhanced due to everyone’s belief in him altering the Warp.
Did you know that Ork tech working because of magic is also meme lore? It was based on a single tech priest who doesn’t know how basic electrical circuits work trying to figure out how this gun he never saw in the machine Bible worked without being submerged in WD-40 first.
I like the TTS justification of Draigo’s power being that he’s literally the Outaider C’Tan plus having been driven mad inside the warp. Adding the Magnus Shard to the mix makes him understandably a god in the universe
As a person who saw Draigo in TTS before seeing him in Chaosgate it was jarring to see him go from "weird crazy super powered guy" to "super serious, duty bound and super powered guy". I did think it was nice to see a Draigo with his head on straight though all things considered.
Kaldor Draigo was named grand master for a suicide mission. In the book Mortarians Heart (aduio drama) he is helping the grand master fight Mortarion with a ton of support and he is already incredibly gifted in combat at this point. But after the grandmaster dies to mortarion. They hold a council and decide that draigo will be named grandmaster on the condition he essentially charges mortarion and tries to banish him using Mortarions true name as given to him by another senior gray knight. And he only succedes because mortarion didnt break his helmet fast enough. Also he didnt succeeded he only killed mortarions body in the material world. So just stopped him temporarily.
i kinda figured draigo's tts appearance was due to insanity-induced hyper emotionality. obviously him being both a psyker and in the warp means these extreme emotions would take form making him incredibly overpowered. though as for the real space star-eating... yea i got nothing.
A note on TTS Draigo: It is heavily implied that he is the silver knight of Slaanesh. This can be seen in these clips by that daemonette calling him traitor
there's another thing you haven't considered: him being insane would also justify his power in the warp and against demons, because in the warp it's all about what you believe. if you're crazy enough to believe you're invincible, then you're FUCKING INVINCIBLE!
📝: If ever making an overpowered character they must have a flaw that balances them out. Such as terrible health, absolute stupidity, or an addiction to snorting narcotic substances from another dimension. Or some rational plot device.
"Why Nobody Takes Kaldor Draigo Seriously" There is a famous quote that can explain almost instantly whenever someone asked why he is like that. *It's a secret*
In my opinion insanity alone wouldn't be enough to justify Draigos warp fighting deeds. Like it's one thing to go crazy and influence the warp with your insane ideas you 100% believe to be real, but to desecrate and kick it's ass so hard is beyond the will of even primarchs, let alone this guy. Although to be fair he is a sort of pocket primarch - if we go with the Magnus shard theory which does make a lot more sense. A large chunk of the second most powerful human psyker, one of the only two who would survive long term golden throne exposure btw, would definitely explain why Draigo (who already is a psyker, and an elite Astartes, and shares genes with the emperor himself) would be able to do as much as he does. He can always be crazy on top of that anyways so it's not like the two options aren't compatible. Really if we think about it, if Draigo does have a significant shard of Magnus in him, he would likely be basically the number three of human psyker abilities, even being better than Malcador.
