My AP teacher, who worked in the military, stated that he was stationed in South Korea. He was right at the boarder to North Korea. He and a few others were able to tour around the South Korean side of the boarder, but were told they should never look through to windows, which led to North Korea. There were guards on the other side of the boarder, and he could feel one of them staring at him. He stayed like that for 3-4 minutes, avoiding eye contact with the man staring at him.

Idk if it’s just me, but in between the border of North and South Korea in Google maps, I saw a hardcore concentration camp, and that gave me chills. I have no clue if it’s still in operation, but I saw it. This shows how strict North Korea is, and even the slightest disloyalty will get you to possibly one of these camps. This also shows that they aren’t messing around when they say there are many concentration camps. 😔

Yeah, maybe the culture for both side is vastly different, but that’s isn’t that big of a deal consider how fast a culture can be learn and assimilate into, especially with the aforementioned similarities between both North and South Korea. Also, believe it or not, North Korea would also welcome any South Korean or American defectors as one of their own too, so it’s not that special. @@danielpavialivori7832 I have a couple of questions for you if you don’t mind spending the time to answer them. It is not the final draft so don’t be surprised if I send another draft later. Here it is: Simplfied: Why are there so few North Koreans fleeing every year compared to the (? 1.8 million) Iraqi refuges who fled Iraq during the 1991 Iraqi Uprisings? Are the reasons for why so few people escape North Korea at least vaguely similar to why there are so few Uyghurs escaping China today as refugees? Expanded: Why are there so few North Koreans fleeing every year compared to the (? 1.8 million) Iraqi refuges who fled Iraq during the 1991 Iraqi Uprisings (the upringsings by the Kurds and Shiites in Iraqi following the 1991 Gulf War that tried to overthrow Saddam)? The number of North Koreans fleeing each year is usually less than 2,000 Is it because Iraq in 1991 was in a state of chaos and disorder which made it easier for Iraqis to escape Saddam Hussein’s brutal surveillance whereas North Korea is not in a state of chaos which makes it extremely difficult to get through North Korea’s _______________? I heard that a reason why the Uyghurs don’t flee en masse from China despite them being imprisoned is largely because of them being under heavy surveillance. Having said this, is it (high level of surveillance) also a similar reason why the number of people fleeing North Korea is so small. A related question: Saddam Hussein was also an extremely oppressive dictator. Were most Iraqis, particularly the Kurds (an ethnic group persecuted under Saddam) under heavy surveillance like the Uyghurs in China? Just so I know whether or not your answer is reliable, how much do you know about the subjects that I am asking about?

That woman who escaped and was stolen back... I don't know what's more scary, thinking that NK could very well be keeping an archive to hunt down _everyone_ who's ever escaped from their hands or even trying to imagine how that woman felt; you fled from a nightmare against all odds and selflessly tried to document something so traumatic for awareness, the disbelief of being seized away from your loved one and sent for the government to enslave and murder. Horrifying.

Way to get the wrong end of the stick. As if states with the best standard of living in the world haven't set up social welfare and leftist ideals. The worst off countries that still name themselves "first world" generally shun systems they see as communist, while suffering from low education, poverty and inequality. North Korea is not a question of values, it's tyranny...

@@georgia-nz3ut I got that wrong, I’ll admit. However this still applies to the United Nations. Kim knows he’s lose the war if it ever started, but he also knows that other countries are aware of his weaponry and arsenal. He knows that these countries should expect heavy damage if they ever decided to interfere with what he’s doing, and the death count would be too high to even think about trying something like that.

There are a couple issues stoping the world from interfering. Outside interference could trigger a response from China or Russia which, unfortunately, are the only 2 nations who could put up a fight against the USA. The USA is relevant because even though you aren't an American the UN is so dependent on US forces that there's no reality where US military isn't involved. The US also has forces and bases in SK and Japan which would force us to be involved regardless. The other major problem is NK has nukes. So let's say that somehow both China and Russia get onboard with UN forces, completely removing any reality where NK could win. In their death throws they'd launch every nuke they have to take as many people with them as possible. SK and Japan would be in imminent danger as there might not be enough time to intercept the warheads. Other, farther places would also be in danger since it's likely that many of the nukes would be given random coordinates because Kim is actually that petty. It's not that the rest of the world doesn't want to help. It's that helping would very likely harm and kill more people than doing nothing will.
