I suppose this will mean a hiatus between now and the next season then. I'll just say I've enjoyed people watching so far, it's been an interesting look at human dynamics as opposed to the friends/himym archetypes of people. I really want to found out more about these characters and what they think, and I can't wait until the next episode

Yes! They nailed what it's like for everyone in their twenties. It gets a lot better in your forties, though. At least, for me and everyone I know. It's the place where you realize that you're both special and not special, and that's just fine. Plus, after adulting for 20+ years, you have the experience to know that you really can handle life, both the wonderful and the shitty. You just go on with your bad selves, millenials. You're rock stars, growing up in the culture we're in. ETA: Jessica made a good point, in that perhaps it's not *everyone* in their twenties. I was basing it off of my own experience, and those of my friends back then. I argue that it's not an invention out of sheer boredom - I mean, I was dealing with some real shit back then, yet all these questions came up. Just happened naturally, at the same time as the real problems.

kateknowsnothing - continually marching towards irrelevance, there isn't a thing in this world we don't want to fix. Yet there isn't enough time. Its all useless. All the skills I have are used by someone else, a self serving someone, to further perpetuate endless suffering in the name of greed. worse still they are nameless and faceless. if I work towards some kind of real change, the crippling weight of the ever rising cost of living will drag me to the bottom. Beyond that, endless ridicule , even hatred by the old jaded shits who gave up on trying to save anyone but themselves a long ass time ago. on one hand I serve myself and selfishly work for money, or I serve myself and work to change the world... it all seems selfish - i really do want to sleep the days away. every dime I pay in taxes goes to kill a person. every product i buy further exploits those unlucky enough to not be born wealthy. it gets better? no - the idea that anyone can live with themselves in the USA is simply ignorance or numbness.
@skuzzyj

For the longest time, you think *"it's gotta just be me, right?"* Then... you maybe get _uncomfortably_ honest with some people in conversation, be it friends, maybe that odd semi-distant family member that you can actually _kind of_ talk to, or just some stranger at a bar who's also trying to drown the same feeling but won't actually admit it until somebody brings it up - that kind of bizarre interaction two strangers can have when they know that they can actually open up about something trivial or deep and the honesty is okay because they never worry about judgment because they never actually have to see each other again after they discuss it, and if they do in passing, _it's just that._ Then you stumble across across a cartoon video series... on a comedy channel... that perfectly sums up exactly that feeling... and as you start reading the comments, you just sit there thinking _"holy. fucking. shit."_ And it *isn't* *just* *you.* ...... This series couldn't have come at a better time. And fuck nostalgia.

I saw this years ago around when it first came out. I was 22 and struggling in my 5th year of college pursuing a liberal arts degree. My family had just gotten done interrogating me about what I was going to do with my life, truth be told I had no clue and I'm pretty sure that they sensed that, it was very embarrassing ...at 26 things are going well for me now, but gotta love how fate or the algorithm tugs on the ole heartstrings by randomly recommending an old one like this. I'd like to think the universe sent me this video to leave words of encouragement for someone whos searching to see so here it is If you're in a tough spot just know that no matter what you do, your highest highs and lowest lows are still ahead of you. Being down on yourself and indecisive when things aren't going well won't do anything for you. Try new things and think different. Things that worked for me were waking up at 5am for exercise, reading, and Googling "____jobs for people with _____ certifications". -

You never gave up, and that's what matters. Try not to look at the past too much, and don't compare it to the pasts of your peers. All those peachy "coming of age" stories tend to be fabricated outliers anyways. You only have control your future at this point. You aren't alone and you can still construct and lead a fulfilling life even if you were dealt a terrible hand early on. Focus on getting your finances in order. Then tend to your physical health. Finally you can start expanding your social circle.

Nostalgia isn't bad because it's a framed picture of the past but it's certainly not something people should aspire too
@niklashansen5432
@niklashansen5432 7 лет назад
I really like the way you framed that (punny-pun-pun). In a way, you can equate that to social media where you also also put up a frame while looking at other peoples frames. Both in nostalgia and social media, your frame consists of the selected good parts whether it is a conscious choice or a selective view. Neither is something you should aspire too. But neither is inherently bad or good either. Both nostalgia and social media can serve a purpose if used for its prober purpose - seeing what made you and what now defines you. All of it affects you and the person you are today. I´d like to see a follow up video on that topic from People Watching. Thoughts?

"You care about this way to [sic] much" says the person who is posting repeatedly on a video they apparently dislike, to people with whom they obviously disagree, in a manner which shows a not infinitesimal degree of investment in the matter. What dull irony. Seriously, though, it would be really nice if you just didn't follow through on your impulse to spread negativity. You can keep it to yourself because it's not hurting anyone that +Agent 0hi0 likes this video. When you feel the urge to tear someone down, perhaps consider examining what it is in you that feels it's appropriate to do that. Because it's pretty unpleasant and I can't help but wonder if it's a trait that makes you as repellant in real life as it does online. And I'd hope that you'd not want to be seen that way.

That can change everything in a person's life even though it seems so obvious. The discussion in the video changed their point of view for the better. That seems like a good result. I do appreciate the humour in your comment tho. Even if it was a bit dicky.

Jean Claude Van Damme I'm dickish because he sounds silly saying that and adding "it's beckoning" doesn't help. Wake the F up and be more practical. Past, future, pffff, just grab the shovel and keep shoveling through life, that's how it goes.
@checkURusername
@checkURusername 7 лет назад
Gordon Shumway who cares what word he used? He cold have said the future is sending him a text message to his cranium it wouldn't matter. Also that sounds like what he's intending to do, shovel through life with a new outlook. Sounds like you're getting what you want to me.

Hey, doubtful if anyone will see this, but I just binged all 10 episodes and it was strangely comforting to see something that seemed to be specifically tailored to my predisposition towards painstaking word dumps about human subjects that ultimately have a wryly hopeful tone. Of course, I could be completely misinterpreting the whole point, but that's showbiz. Anyways, amazing job on this series. Seriously. You did so many things right, in my admittedly inexperienced eyes. Keep up the good work.

This seems awfully heartfelt. I can't relate totally to this, but I can appreciate the sincerity here. I don't know if I'm truly nostalgic in the textbook sense. The thing that strikes me the most about Jeremy is that he was a very attractive young woman, but it wasn't him. I mean, I'm trans myself, and I've only taken one selfie in my life (about a month ago) that I was ever happy with. I'm told I was an attractive guy, but nothing about that person felt like me. I'm not nearly as girly as I'd like to be now, and it's weird as fuck to be called beautiful, but that one selfie had more of me in it than every picture ever taken of me combined.

I'm not obsessed with nostalgia; I'm sick of people saying how everything is getting worse and worse and pretending that putting an effort into anything is worthless because of it. I get that people seem to be nostalgic all the time because they forgot the bad things from the past and were much younger, maybe even too young to understand the bad things. But damn, stop making remakes, reboots, prequels, sequels etc.; bringing back the past won't do shit. Allow yourself to care about the future in a positive way. I mean, goddammit, you can't wait for someone else to do it for you.

I'm pretty sure a big theme of this series is that pretty much nobody has this whole life thing figured out, but get better at masking that, especially from themselves, as time goes on. And how it's important to continue on with what you have to do to live and thrive despite that. Existentialism isn't exclusive to the young, or else we wouldn't even have common understanding of terms like mid-life crisis.

I'm so very grateful for these little cartoons. I just graduated high school, moving across the country for college, and there's nothing I fear more than failure, and wasting my youth. A friend of mine died last week, someone I've known throughout high school. I've been isolated, and alone with my own self destructive thoughts. My thoughts often betray me, I think about some really awful things. I feel guilty that the death of my friend is what it took to purge suicidal thoughts from my mind. But having something so honest, so comforting in the fact that it isn't promising a miracle cure really helped me feel better about myself. I don't think anyone will necessarily read this, but I just had to put it out there that this series has really, profoundly uplifted me.

The other half resonates more with those who have already dipped their toes in adulthood and have had some hardship. It's easy to look back and yearn for the time where you were still a kid, having no worries other than have you done your homework yet. But at the same time, you realize how much more you have now than what you had back then. And sometimes that makes you value who you are now even more .

Nostalgia is bullcrap. You only see things how your mind wants to interpret them. What you thought as a great experience, was in fact not so great after all, sometimes. Nostalgia can be broken by a remake or reboot. It can prevent the future from happening. Just because you want to keep things the way they were. And when someone does go to change that, you get upset with them, especially when they ruin it. There is nothing from 2000, 2010, and 2020 +, that I can say I want to remember. As far as I'm concerned, nothing eventful ever happened. I can't honestly remember anything I did a week ago. You asked me one thing that happened a decade ago that I can remember with full detail, I can't give you one thing. If you only live in the past, you're already dead. If you only live for the future, you're not living in the present. If you're living for the present, it's already left, by the mere thought of trying to think of it.
