So a lot of people are saying giyuu is stronger although he didn’t do much compared to obanai in their fight against muzan. I know the whole argument about how giyuu was tired and injured because he had to fight akaza before. But, you can think of it like this: Giyuu’s first fight in the infinity castle was against akaza (he was with tanjiro and didn’t fight alone). While obanai and mitsuri had to fight nakime who had a very annoying blood demon art. I’m pretty sure if it was reversed and giyuu and tanjiro had to fight nakime they would’ve also struggled a lot because of her blood demon art. Now, if we consider obanai’s fight against muzan the first “actual” fight he had (since they couldn’t do much against nakime and was more of a chase than a fight) obanai is actually pretty strong as well, since he had so many feats against muzan (who is much much stronger than akaza). What I mean is if we compare giyuu’s first fight against the third strongest demon vs obanai’s “first actual” fight against THE strongest demon (ik he was drugged, he is still stronger than akaza) then obanai wins ig. Both obanai and giyuu are my favorites, but idk why people hate and overlook obanai so much.
You need to consider that obanai have a lot of energy fighting Muzan. Obanai and mitsuri waste a lot of time with the biwa demon. On the other hand giyu already fought a menace in akaza.
Yes true, Obanai was getting tossed around by that demon of the infinite castle and couldn't do shit while giyuu was drained after fighting akaza but still was keeping up with muzan's attack I dont want to be rude but this obanai was just irrelevant for me People down play giyuu so much

Imagine fighting and using your sword to attack and defend from akaza's powerful punches that could literally blow something up. If you saw how akaza destroyed tanjiro's sword when he was so infuriated by him. How much more if you fought akaza head to head. And obanai really had the most energy and stamina during that time but he didn't manage to survive until tanjiro became a demon. Only giyu did. Getting you arms cut off and suffering from too much bleeding, giyu still survived and still able to protect other people and holding tanjiro on his own.

Obanai fought a weakened Muzan with Tanjiro while Giyu fought Akaza with Tanjiro. He was also knocked out in that fight which would’ve been his death had Tanjiro not been there

Giyu claps obanai, giyu is stronger, faster (dead clam), has more forms of breathing both defense and offense and overall his breathing is superior (11 forms), giyu has more experience and the reason why giyu didn’t do as much to muzan is bcz giyu was fatigued from tanking akazas most powerful attack whilst obanai was playing tag with nakime and mitsuri and not even fighting. On top of that, giyu was able to continue the fight and move on to the muzan fight and even after all his injuries he was even able to dodge DKT attacks and save multiple people and yet still managed to survive the night.
Obanai is not stronger than giyu, yes he’s a formidable hashira, but even he couldn’t land any decent attacks on muzan without unlocking his marked state, tho giyu already fought with Akaza obanai was running around with mitsuri tryna decapitate the Biwa lady, he was basically in a much better condition than giyu, instead of seeing who’s stronger than who u should praise what everyone did in order to catch the dub, mitsuri did claim she was barely hanging on unlike everyone else, but that’s how everyone felt, they fought together and wanted the same result, surpassing their own strengths and peeking through their performance as it showed, that it took literally everyone to take muzan down. Some were more effective than the rest but we needed everyone on that last fight
I agree with you they while obanai was trying to kill naikme. Giyu was fighting a much more powerful demon akuza so saying he’s stronger is kind of a joke he is strong but his personality is one I can not stand. He thinks his stronger then most and he kinda reminds me of corkus from berserk in many ways. 1 he is arrogant 2 it might not have been stated but I’m sure if he had the chance he would kill both nezuko and tanjiro when no one is looking and make it an accident 3 he looks up to kaguya as if he’s a hero. Just after muzan launched some kind of attack that made every one there unconscious. Iguro was the 1st one to get up and stopped muzan , he literally buried muzan to ground and then he went on fighting Muzan in 1v1 and 1v2 along with tanjiro. At that point Iguro even lost his eye yet he was able to dodge Muzan's attack and able to counterattack also ....... Iguro turned his sword into Bright red sword just by his pure grip . Iguro was able to unlock STW . Did you was manage to do that ? Ahan No never Even sanemi helped him to turn his sword red and Giyuu never able tap into STW . Remember STW give you so much advantage in a fight that we have witnessed in a fight of Gyomie vs Kokushibo...... That how gyomie was able to read movement of Kokushibo. Now I do think Obanai is strong BUT Giyu fought off Akaza (with Tanjiro), he was the first to encounter Muzan and stand is ground, and he was the ONLY hashira still up and standing his ground against Demon King Tanjiro who may i remind you is basically unkillable being imune to the sun. So in my opinion Giyu is the 3rd strongest.

In the Hashira Training Arc, Sanemi Shinazugawa decides to "teach" endurance lessons to the lower-ranking Demon Slayers. Later, he is seen to spar with the Water Hashira (Giyu Tomioka) using wooden swords. The sparring match ends in a tie, thus showing that the two have equal swordsmanship skills.
Equal? Senemi who fought UP1. Endured an attack which is impossible to survive said by kokushibo himself. And after tanking that attack ,he was still fighting kokushibo with gyomie. Immediately after defeating UP1 they went to fight muzan. Senemi landed most blows on muzan after obanai and gyomie even though he was tired. On the other hand giyu, getting his ass clapped by akaza. After activating mark, still getting clapped by akaza. With the help of tanjiro who was hashira level, and still got clapped mid diff by akaza. And after akaza killed himself, they took a short rest and then went for muzan battle and did nothing. Literally he didn't do anything good against muzan and his sword broked. He is nothing compare to senemi.
At first i was very weak though, but when i became Hashira then i get stronger bc with the yellow eye, i can see the next demon im gonna fight so i was training hard b4 fighting that demon

I don't really think of him being that strong, but it makes some sense. Rengoku and Tengen didn't seem to be that strong, although Rengoku could be a different case based on mark, and if he fought a different opponent with any help. But idk, he fights Nakime and just lives since Nakime wasn't fighting. But, I still think any 2 Hashira might have had trouble catching Nakime on her hometurf. I just wish we could've seen Obanai, Sanemi and Gyomei fight something before the Inf castle arc.
this is because giyu never help anyone. he was just lying down and relaxing most of the fight at last he woke up when muzan was already weekend by obtain,tanjiro,sanemi and others.obanai also fought upper moon 4 which is defensive type that take too much stamina from him. obanai saved tanjiro 2 times, save mitsuri,save giyu from muzan attack.
Obanai,Giyuu and Muichiro. We all saw how Muichiro blitzed UM5 when he got the mark while the same Marked Muichiro got stomped by UM1 Kokushibo, meanwhile Base Sanemi even without his blood hax kept up with Kokushibo for a good 1 and half chapters. Sanemi himself said He was able to dodge Kokushibo's attack due to his vast experience compared to Muichiro. Now Giyuu have same experience as Sanemi. This is also proved when Sanemi and Giyuu are equal in Swordskill in their training session. Also note that Obanai trains the newbie slayers in "SwordSkill Section". So this proves that his SwordsmanShip is best among the pillars. So there's no doubt they would keep up with Kokushibo just as good as Sanemi if not worse. But they would definitely not fall faster than Muichiro. This alone puts Giyuu and Obanai considerably above Muichiro by the end of the series. Now coming to Giyuu and Obanai, unlike the rest Obanai was basically fresh against Muzan whereas everyone got their fair share of damage against their respective uppermoons. Also Obanai himself said he was doing worst among the pillars at the beginning of the Muzan fight(due to being unmarked). The crows share the information how each fight went throughout the dimensional fortress arc. Obanai is the first one to figure out how to turn the blade red by listening to Muichiro's struggle which proves how perceptive and keen observer Obanai is. So he also turned his blade red by himself while also achieving the Mark at the same time, but this was too much for him as he almost fainted. He was about to die to Muzan's attack at that moment, but Giyuu almost tried to thwart it but missed while Zenitsu/Inosuke saved Obanai. ->Now most people scale Obanai to top 2 or 3 as he achieved red blade by himself. But most people forget that Tanjiro turned his blade red by himself 2 times in chapter 193 and chapter 197. He again tried to do it for the 3rd time when Muzan was cornered down and stabbed by Tanjiro but couldn't do so as he was fatigued/stamina drained. Then Giyuu stepped in and made the blade red "with one hand". Neither Tanjiro nor Giyuu fainted when they made the blade red. If Giyuu with one hand can, Sanemi with 2 hands obviously can but the situation never prompted for him. So anyone can make the blade red by putting enough force but it can be assumed Obanai fainted because of his canonically 2nd weakest body among the hashiras. -> Also when everyone got thrown away by Muzan, Obanai was the first one to return to fight. This feat also makes most people think he is the most durable and also a reason to put him in Top 2 or 3. However mostly no one notices that he was merely lucky to not lose a leg like Gyomei or an arm like Giyuu which suffered them heavy blood loss that adds to their already fatigued state. Sanemi also hit by a big rock on his face which can be seen when the medic team helped him get awake. -> Also Obanai was amazing when he fought Muzan with blind eyes but we also have to note that he was half blind since his birth and his snake assisted him for a short while until he got the talisman's papers which more or less made him fight in his former state. Obanai himself stated that now it is much easier to fight him. We should also note that Muzan stated that he should have been able to kill Tanjiro and Obanai at that point easily but couldn't do so because he was at his limit due to the antidote by Tamayo. Muzan was at his weakest at this point. ->Giyuu was fighting the first half of the battle with broken sword as well and was keeping up with the others. -> So i would put Giyuu slightly above Obanai and those two considerably above Muichiro by the end of the series.
I agree. Obanai was being played by the demon girl changing rooms and rooms again tho. I would say both giyu and obanai has outstanding stamina. Also, i think why obanai wouldve or did faint was because of getting the demon skayer mark and making his blade red at the same time while having a weak body. Id say that giyu is slight better than obanai too.

And carried the fight for some chapters . Brianless kids still think Giyuu is stronger 😂 Lol Anyway there is a psychological reason behind this Lemme explain - Giyuu was introduced in a seris in a very dope manner ( when he 1st meet Tanjiro) - Giyuu's entry in Mountain arc Where he cut rui ( like it was walk in a park ) Rui was lower moon 5 That's where all hype created and some of the DS fans assumed that Giyuu is so strong But actually he is not . Giyuu ( Mark ) and Tanjiro ( mark ) were barely keeping up with akaza He was upper 3 and without any internal damage or severe damage they passed out Totally worth laughing While Iguro was fighting demon King muzan . . Almost Everyone agrees with Gyomei and sanemi being the two strongest but when it come to 3rd strongest different people have different opinion . But i think obanai is 3rd strongest hashira and giyu is 4th . Giyu might me a better fighter or meybe even stronger than obanai but obanai is better at fighting demons due to his unique breathing style . I might even put him equal to sanemi or even above him (in fighting demons ) . Snake breathing is one of the most haxed out breathing style in the entire series , bro can catrol the direction his attack its like hacking and don't forget he is the best swords an in the demon Slayer corps . I think the third strongest hashira is muichiro. I mean kokushibo's descendant and became a hashira in only two months. he practically surpasses the other six. and the fourth is giyu. because he has mastered water breathing to its very peak. I don't expect obanai with a bendy sword to win.

Personally I think Muichiro is 3rd,because he has more feats and is far more talented than Obanai. Like Obanai only feats are him struggling against extremely weakened muzan,but that’s just my opinion going off of what was stated in the manga so I might be wrong and I might have missed something stated in the manga and anime

Giyu is still better because obanai does while fighting nizam but giyu survives the battle proving that he was strong enough to continue fighting despite his injuries
