Just stumbled up on your podcast/video, it's great to know about your experience, having lived in both countries, we have migrated from New Zealand in 2006 to Australia, I am a citizen of both countries, dual Australian/NZ citizen, in actual sense Australia change the rules decades ago for New Zealanders arriving in Australia, New Zealanders arriving after 26 February 2001 aren't permanent residence automatically, have to be granted a permanent Visa, there are disadvantages as well moving as a New Zealand citizen, because you don't qualify for everything. I can relate the experience, my mother had New Zealand PR, she wasn't NZ citizen, so we had to renew visas for her every five years, in Australia, thankfully now she holds Australian citizenship after number of years, it took us a long long time.

Please note that no visa will be converted to another visa automatically. Once a person complete his work visa period he should apply for a residence visa. If the INZ satisfy,with your application they may issue the visa. To apply for the PR you should complete your residence visa period of 2 years. After successful completion of your PR period you can apply for CITIZENSHIP of NZ. INZ is not the department concerned to issue citizenship. If I am right,it is the NZ internal affairs department. It is up to the departments concerned whether to issue the visa or citizenship to the applicant. In short,please note that no convertion is possible automatically in all the above cases.

I've been working here for almost 4 months now and is planning to apply for a Student's Visa under the Diploma in Community Healthcare and Support after my 3 years of work here in Japan. I'm very much interested to move to New Zealand but I got worried since I've read a lot of experiences from other people that it's so hard to get Permanent Residency in New Zealand. Is it really true? And I'm not sure if I will be able to pass the IELTS exam since it's one of the primary requirements if I prefer to apply for Student's Visa.

Even Kiwis want to come to Australia. Mostly those who can't get Oz PR go for NZ. Australia is much bigger, cheaper to live and has more opportunities.

First of all thank you for sharing your experience. Please help me to know one thing. Is it possible to come to NZ(employer sponsorship or student way) and gain 1-2 years of experience in your field ? and if that field job is also there in Australia then apply there, I think Australian consider NZ experience as local experience, which is very important to get a job. If we get the job in Australia then Australian experience there will also be countable in PR points. Which can make the a pathway to PR easy. Australia is super expensive, once we have the job things become easy. I am a software professional, so I was thinking in my professional this might be possible. Please advise, is this is possible?
