I have been asked "How to get a Permanent Residency (PR) in Australia?" many times and PR in Australia is a dream for a lot of people I know but the Australia PR process 2022 has changed drastically and people are not aware about it. Australia PR may sound easy to get but it is one of the most difficult countries to get PR in the world, currently, and in this video I am going to share some true personal experiences that every single person wanting to immigrate to Australia should know.
Life in Sydney is fabulous but all things that glitter are not gold. Australia PR is a struggle that is faced by many international students who come here to study and decide to stay but the realities are harsh and different to what people perceive from another country.
Permanent residency in Australia has some groundbreaking realities that I am sharing in this video and I think everyone should know about it before they decide to move. Australia permanent residency 2022 is different to what it was before 2017. If someone tells you it's very easy, they don't know what they are saying.
I came to Sydney as an international student and decided to stay here permanently but getting a PR in Australia feels like a unachievable dream everyday. The immigration laws are changing and the student visa to permanent residency Australia is not possible so easily anymore.
Pathway to PR Australia is getting more twisted and rough day by day. And here are some realities that come with PR in Australia for work visa holders or PR in Australia for international students.

Honestly there should be more videos like this which should be used as a warning for people aspiring for Australian PR through the study pathway. There's a reason why international student fees are doubled compared to local students, english tests having an expiry date, professional year programs offering points (even tho its a complete waste of time and money), and education being one of Australia's largest exports. They sell you the dream of living here permanently but they have effectively raised the requirement so high it's almost impossible for a newly graduated student to get PR. Your only hope would be to convince some Australian to sponsor you in a partner or marriage visa, otherwise you're pretty much screwed regardless if you have 90-95 points because you'll be competing with thousands of other applicants. Australia does not want skilled immigrants, they just want cheap imported labor to fuel their hospitality and gambling industries - dangling a the bait of PR to keep you in the hamster wheel. If you want PR, you're better off with Canada.

We've got our family visa for permanent residency last July and we're flying on June this year. The process actually is not that long, it only takes less than a year. I think the biggest factor that our application didn't take long is because my father is working in regional Australia. I've heard that people living in big cities applying for permanent residency gets a lot of trouble with their application. Contrary to what others have said, my father is paid generously enough and was planning to move to Western Australia for higher pay.

I can totally relate myself to each and every point you have mentioned, Starting from skills assessment to language tests. I've been waiting since 5 years and yet there is no ray of hope., I've done 3 Assessments so far which is way expensive. Out of all, Australia is helping the English tests, Assessment bodies and the colleges to make more money at the stake of many people's dream. It is true that the competition has increased, but there should be a streamlined way to deal with.

Australia used to be a paradise for PR some 15 years back when not many people were interested to this country as currency value was also low. Now in recent years it has become unpredictable and difficult. One good example is how Australia gave preference for only Medical professions during Covid lockdowns and other occupations were not given PR. Thus PR pathway to Australia can be unpredictable and difficult after spending so much money. Studying is Australia is only 5 points extra which can gained in other ways, without spending big money and staying in home country itself.

Just spoke with a renowned immigration consultant paying $150 here from India (you would have guess the name) and was told about a 1 year course for my wife leading to getting PR in 2-3 years leveraging bridging visa post the course which sounded too good to be true. Not losing hope yet but will be more thoughtful as we are working in good companies and at the prime of our careers, so starting afresh with the risk at stake may not be worth but will see. Good luck in Canada!

Hi Akanksha Thanks so much for the time and effort you put in creating this video. Today I had a mental breakdown after realising that after 8 years, I am still in the same boat as thousands of other people who have been here less years than me, and yet competing for the same PR positions, stuck in this hell process. Everything you have described is absolutely right and I have actually started to advise people to not waste their money and come to Australia for studies under any circumstance, as it is not worth it at all, especially if the dream is to become a PR (which ultimately becomes the goal in the end after spending thousands of dollars and feeling you deserve it). This country only sees you as a cash cow and honestly, apart from the beaches and weather, Australia lacks in family values, spiritual values, culture, history and just the mainstream lifestyle. Do not waste your time and leave your own precious country, to slave away every day at the mercy of an ignorant Australian employer just to pretend you're happy in a country that will never even accept you, if you're not white and/or have the Australian accent. Even after obtaining a PR, you will be sold the dream of owning a house for 500k which is not affordable to the average Australian (unless with family support or govt. subsidies, which most of them get) let alone an immigrant. I am begging you, whoever is reading this, do not come here unless you have a job and PR already, otherwise you are in for pain and disspointment and it will bring you down to your knees.

I 100% agree with your comments. I moved here in 2016 on a student visa and some of the requirements are so stupid. It doesn't matter whether you've attended their high school or university. If you don't sit one of their money making tests, you can't go through the system. And this is when some international students speak and write English so much better than domestic students. Oh and don't get me started on getting a job. You're literally at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to jobs. I went through numerous rejections before getting one on a last minute offer. It doesn't matter how good your grades, references or work ethic are. When they look at you and upon seeing that you're not a pr or a citizen, 99 percent of the time, they'll throw away your application. It's good to hear that you've become a Canadian pr. Honestly, I wouldn't want to go through the Australian PR system again if I have to restart.

I don't know whether my comment will stay here or it will be deleted. But below are my personal views re the content of this video. I can feel the frustration and disappointment that has been the base reason behind the content of this video. However, the facts mentioned are mostly correct unlike the reasoning mentioned against them, which are mostly biased. To summarise: 1. PR is complicated. True. Occupation list changes. True. Australian immigration add or remove from the list as per their wish? Not really. It is based on the demand of that occupation in the industry. Why would they want to keep an occupation in the list which they know doesn't have much demand in the market? That would add up to the already rising rate of unemployed immigrants in the country. Increase in points requirement has the same reason too. When supply of applicants is way more than demand for that occupation, point requirements has to go up to cater the increased competition. Nothing wrong in that. 2. Education consultants and migration agents sell you the study path way or whatever else to get your money. True. It is their job. They are salespersons for their companies. Simply don't fall for them. If you really are good enough to make a move to a new country on a professional basis, you are really good enough to conduct entire application and decision making process on your own. If you need any clarifications, talk to the embassy people of immigration officers. Don't choose study pathway to get PR. Choose it to attain higher education and then take a call whether and when to apply for PR. 3. Skill assessment is a drama. Not entirely true. You should look at the qualifications from some developing or underdeveloped countries. It is really necessary to ensure the compatibility with Australian education standard to ensure as much as possible that they won't end up not getting recognised in the industry here. One year experience required by the assessing bodies for few education streams is to ensure that your education is at least good enough to get you the job somewhere else. 4. IELTS / PTE are not cheap and valid for only 2 years only. True. That is dumb? Not really. Private bodies do make it a business. Nothing can be done. Just don't give the test until you are 100% sure of applying EOI. And PR is PERMANENT residency. So if you are worried about having to give test again for another immigration in near future, PR is not really your thing. Coming from India where english is fairly common is an easy for not forgetting english in 2 years after passing the test. Imagine coming from a totally non-english speaking country (Ukraine or Portugal for example), it is easily possible to lose english competency in two years if there is no interaction with english whatsoever. 5. Annual immigration ceiling is reduced. Of course it will be. It is again a supply demand thing which has been affected by slowing down of industry demands due to prolonged COVID effects. After all, immigration is designed to benefit Australia's industry by enabling more resources that are qualified in certain occupation categories. It is not to benefit applicants against the requirements of Australian industry. PR doesn't guarantee you a job. It is just a requirement to live in a country. 6. PR is a super expensive process. True. That is to ensure that an applicant will apply only and only when he / she is very very sure of making a move and not just obtaining a PR as a hobby. I have seen rich brats getting multiple PRs just for the sake of it. Imagine it needs few hundreds instead of few thousands, so many people will apply, that the supply v demand thing will be ruined and keeping track of requirements of industries against qualified people will become impossible. The points requirement will go through the roof too. However, I agree taking study route for PR is not worth it. I believe study is to learn. PR is after you start to earn. Solution, pursue the pre-requisites of PR application on the sides along with what you are doing and start the assessment part onwards which needs money to be spent only when you are very very sure of making a move asap. If you don't agree or oppose the above views, please ignore the comment. It is not meant to hurt anyone's feelings, so apologies if I have, unintended. It is just to establish the other side of the coin which is nowhere to be seen in any other comments. P.S. I am not an immigration agent too. I moved to Melbourne by going through the whole process of Subclass 189 by my own.

Hey, no this comment is not going to get removed because I value everyone’s opinion even if it’s different to mine and this is a space to share opinions. If I may ask, what year did you do your 189 and moved? And did you move straight from overseas or you were staying in Australia?

@Whatsnextakanksha Год назад
@@kunjannakhare9533 Okay so 189 was open in 2018 and no offence but since you moved straight as a permanent resident you wouldn’t know what I am talking about. 😕 This is something faced by anyone who’s come here to study and wanted to stay back. You can look at the comments section to see how many people resonate with this. Australia has been a country that invites immigrants but since these last 5 years, the government has made immigration for someone onshore an organised mess. I am actually questioning the laws/decisions made my the government and also suggesting what could’ve been better. These are some realities that people don’t see when coming to a new country and that’s what I have explained in the video. Yes there are technical and logical reasons behind everything but when you are in the situation, the perspective changes. I do mention in the video that yes I am frustrated because even after spending so much money, time, energy in a country you don’t have any leverage over anyone else applying for the PR from overseas. :) It’s easy for someone who hasn’t been through this, to put reasoning behind everything I mentioned and no blames because it’s different watching this from the outside. Thanks The goal of my video to give a fact check to people who are planning to move, thinking things are easy as butter. It’s not anymore. Might be in future but Australian immigration is a mess currently.
@laytheng6825

@kunjan the best comment i have seen so far among all :) so informative yet not confusing. PR shall only be granted to right person who really want to move purely on intention he or she love that country and also he or she have professional skill which able to help the country to fill the workforce gap using the skill he/she gain &possessed either from education + working experience thru oversea/ home country or in australia. ( the so called win win situation ) there's no shorcut to get everything you want so don't blame when thing not getting your way /as you wish. cheers and no offend here

@Whatsnextakanksha Год назад
@@laytheng6825 hey, rightfully said but what would be your reaction when you have all the said things, experience, education, qualifications and your documentation is not assessed due to random reasons which don’t align with the assessing bodies. Been 7 years here. My occupation was removed in 2017 as well so I feel you! Regarding migration agents, I totally agree! I know more than them most of the time and they are just trying to get a commission. I've dealt with a few migration lawyers but I consult a few before I make my final decision and I go to them when I already know the answer just so they verify my thinking or for them to go beyond the basics. Most have to go deep into the law to help me ahhahahah Points are so hard to get when you're not in IT or accounting because you can't do a professional year or get points from stem, degrees etc., And everything is so expensive NAATI is $800 just to show you speak your own language! Exams are nearly $400 a pop, skill assessment is almost $1000 and that's just the basics. Also living here is expensive so make sure you get a good job and live anywhere but Sydney and Melbourne so you can enjoy your money and spend less. It's great that you share these truths with people because many people come here without a plan and with fairy tale dreams and then reality hits them hard. Thank you!

Everything you said about pointing system and assessment is true. I have done some research and it is very discouraging. I visited AU and fell in love with Sydney but then maybe I just romanticize living there because reality is different than imagining. My job is in the shortlists but the assessment is challenging. They want the syllabus of all the classes I have taken and clinical hours, signatures of clinicians etc. I have been out of school for over a decade. Where am I supposed to get the syllabus of all the classes? Most of my prof are retired. Even though I have the experience in my field, AU require Bachelor's degree. My program only required Associates in Science here in the US so that is what I have. I make decent living here but have been thinking about moving there.
