Why Only ONE Of Cinderella’s Stepsisters Turned Good...| Disney’s Cinderella
There is no doubt in the world that Anastasia and Drizella Tremaine coined the term “Evil Step Sisters.” But as time went on in the Cinderella universe, only one of them stayed that way. Anastasia Tremaine was the only member of her immediate family that took a step back from her wickedness and decided to turn her life around in a much more positive way. And although her mother didn’t like the person that she was becoming, it was ultimately for the best and led Anastasia to her true happily ever after.

Anastasia’s redemption arc was beautifully done. As an adult, I realize Anastasia only participated in her mother’s and sister’s actions because she knew that they would treat her badly and ostracize her if she didn’t. Lady Tremaine literally brainwashed and manipulated Anastasia and then once she met the Baker, she chose to break the cycle of Lady Tremaine’s abuse. She grew closer with Cinderella too. It was beautiful to watch.

This is for a great and useful message to the public that just because someone’s on the same DNA doesn’t means they’re all the same, Anastasia was brainwashed to act a certain way, but developed a sense of empathy that her sister and mother failed to. @@HWDragonbornThe cruel irony of it all is that, in the Charles Perrault version of the story (the same one Walt adapted from), when the stepmother wanted to call Ella “Cinderwench”, it was the youngest sister (who was the nicest of the group), to name her “Cinderella”, wanting to retain Ella’s name. Since Anastasia Tremaine is canonically the young stepsister, this implies that she’s always meant to be the redeemer. Which makes it gut-wrenching when Kingdom Hearts didn’t get the memo.

Then in the third movie, Anastasia realizes that you can’t change time cause that won’t make you feel better unless you find someone that really likes you. I believe that yes, Anastasia did have some bad qualities with the first movie. But my mother told me: “We make bad choices in life. That doesn’t mean you have to keep following them. You live and learn from your mistakes.” We have to remember, Child are not bad by choice but by example. Look at Mitral from Lilo and Stitch. Her father was abusive and had a strong opinion of what was normal AND HE walked out on the family. Anastasia is not different in beginning. But once she learned that there was another way to fight for what you want without being mean or cruel she redeemed herself and took responsibility and did the right thing by telling her mother that her way is not how she wants to live her life.

I think it's "Mertle," but I see your point nonetheless. Honestly, I'm willing to bet Lady Tremaine probably says awful things about her daughter's on the sly, because they are "awkward," compared to Cinderella. That could have also fueled the bullying of Cinderella. Pitting siblings against one another never turns out well. I also noticed in the first movie that while Anastasia was pretty awful to Cinderella, it was pretty mild compared to Drizella and Lady Tremaine.

Oddly enough, there was a film back in the late 90s called Ever After , with Drew Barrymore as Cinderella, where one of the stepsister was actually not "evil." I absolutely love Anastasia's redemption arc because even though she had treated Cinderella like a servant, she turned her whole life around by asking Cinderella for help when she fell in love with the baker. Anastasia had to find someone who would love her for her and she wouldn't marry someone who had wealth but would care for her because Anastasia needed help from Cinderella who in the end was willing to help her and now I see why Anastasia became a kindhearted person just like Cinderella and I'm proud of her for finding true love. Cinderella and Anastasia are two sorts of people who believe that kindness and love are better ways to treat people than being mean to them. The golden rule states in Matthew 7:12 "So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." God wants everyone to treat others the way we want to be treated because if we do that, we will please God and be blessed by Him.

You know it’s interesting. Now that I’m older I’ve learned more about history and the fact that they chose to have Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, and Drizella appear as the villains because they wanted to marry the prince for his social status (as well as how they treated Cinderella) is rather interesting. That was extremely common for that time period in history in French aristocracy. It was very rare for people to marry for love, and it would’ve been even rarer for the prince to marry Cinderella who came with no dowry. For him to even associate with her is shocking. Her family was clearly poor because they needed to use Cinderella as their maid, so if they saw her as even lower class than themselves, what should he think? This story was written in 1697. That was a very modern take for the times.
@wittwashere
@wittwashere Год назад
nah the fact that it went against such social norms is why it was considered a fairy tale in the first place "everyone" of the time period "knew" that such things would never happen but the idea of being able to breakdown or ignore such class barriers was fun to dream about for people of all walks of life

There were a few instances where kings and princes in Europe did marry peasants. See Elizabeth Woodville. She was the Queen of England in the 1400s. She came from a poor and forsaken family, and she was also a widow of a minor lord. She took her sons with her one day to beg the king, who was out hunting, for financial aid, but the king, upon seeing her great beauty, instantly fell in love with her, amd against his advisors' wishes, married the peasant girl he met in the first. This enraged the English nobility as the king should have married a foreign princess to secure an alliance from another kingdom.

This actually because on Charles Perrault version of the story it´s stated that actually one of Cinderella stepsister was less evil to her than the other sister, and toward the end of the story both repented on her missbehavior to her and got married with some important noblemen closekin to the Prince. Also this idea got into the final version which Disney used for Anastasia evolution on the animated sequels of the 2000s after the live-action movie "Ever After" where indeed Cinderella only has misstreatment from her stepmother and the elder stepsister but not from a younger one closer to her and in the end she actually ends marrying a close friend of the Prince whereas her mother and sister got a proper punishment as servants in the palace pretty much on the same as Cinderella 3 after credits last scene when they go back to be humans from being frogs early on after a fireback spell, but find themselves into Cinderella´s classical postition as servants. So both the creators of Disney as well the ones from Ever After decided that one of Cinderella´s stepsisters actually needed a good ending on her own to be set apart from the other one and their mother. This was also used in opera after the plot of La Cenerentola of Rossini much early on!!

Like the main story be about Cinderella learning about the princess life and be the ball she sets up. Jacque turning human can add to the story and drezila falls in love with him under the impression that Jacque is some lord or baron. 3 Anastasia meets the baker but lady tremaine keeps her from finding true happiness and sets her up with other young lords/barrons men of wealth. Jacque is playing keep away from drezilla and runs into Cinderella. Cinderella does recognize him and asks how he ended up like this. Mean while plans for the ball are not going to the way the duke had originally plan and us worried about what the king might do to him. ….. Just saying

That's really a really interesting coincidence. Not sure if the historical Anastasia's (on whom the Fox movie character was based) name was the inspiration for the stepsister Anastasia's name but it is a very pretty name nonetheless. On the other hand with Anastasia's sis Drizella, Disney was definitely playing off some dry dark humor with that name which I have a feeling they most likely created themselves.

Somehow even before I saw the sequels I vibed that Anastasia was the nicer one.
@bunchberry9957
@bunchberry9957 Год назад
She was. Notice that she never started the bullying? It was Drizella that always started it. Anastasia just went along with it. And she never called Cinderella nasty names either nor was she physically abusive like Drizella. Another example is when Anastasia tried to get the footman off of her, she did push him a bit too hard with her foot but at first, she at least knew he was trying to get the shoe on. Drizella on the other hand, slapped the footman, called him an idiot and violently pushed him away. Had it not been a family film, I bet she would have swore at him aswell.

the sequels are confusing for cinderella timeline. i know the third film used time travel. but did the second movie happen at all or were the two films in separate universes? There's no mention of the baker. and only prudence is the only sequel character that returned. if they exist in their own timeline then anastasia redeemed herself twice in two different universes? if it's supposed to be all the same one then lady tremaine split anastasia and the baker up somehow and got anastasia to listen to her again.
@sparxmaiden841
@sparxmaiden841 Год назад
Honestly, to me it seems more like the second movie takes place after the third. So it would be 1,3,2. It also makes sense with Cinderella's personality in the second movie and Anastasia's, because the events of movie 3 laid the groundwork for her change.
@Mike0908
@Mike0908 Год назад
not really because the step family is implied to be maids in the palace in the ending of the film and probably considered traitors. no way they can just go back to living in cinderella's family house. i know cinderella 2 was a failed tv series packaged together into a sequel but i think they imply months have gone by. and the mice and birds giving a gift of a book of 3 stories to cinderella. cinderella 3's beginning they imply it's been a year. it makes sense to either be two diffrerent timelines or 2 goes before 3. because 3 going before 2 makes no sense. no one would trust the tremaines after they used magic. at least not lady tremaine and drizella. if they weren't forced to work in the palace they'd at least be exiled or thrown in prison.
@uncolaman99
@uncolaman99 Год назад
'Cinderella 2' had 3 stories written by mice. From my mind, it's canon that the mice wrote these 3 stories, but the tales are nothing more than fanfiction. For example, the Cinderella I know wouldn't break down crying because of a window that she wasn't allowed to have open.
@Mike0908
@Mike0908 Год назад
@@uncolaman99 they act like it really happened. that they were writing new stories that had just happened because the only story about cinderella was written was her life up to marrying the prince. the book was just a wrap around segments. like i think this was likely going to be a special at the end of a season with them giving her a book. but without the rest of the tv series that would made it look like a tv show. they did this with the tarzan and jane sequel. a sequel to the tarzan series that showed 3 differetn tarzan episodes with wrap around segments around it.

I didn't even really think about or realise about Anastasia and Drizella losing *two* father figures, and as *children* no less, until this video. After that experience I wouldn't be surprised if both sisters also didn't have some issues forming emotional bonds with males, not wanting to lose them and get hurt again. Going after the prince for "only" his status and money is a lot easier to hypothetically accept in that scenario than actually going for love towards a male. I wouldn't be surprised if that's another reason the king touched Anastasia's heart so deeply, because she's never really had a father.
@deniseboldea1624
@deniseboldea1624 Год назад
The redemption was not so much making up to Cinderella for all she did at her mother's behest so much as Anastasia standing up to her Status seeking mother and being her own woman. Back around the time of the original writing of this story. (The brother's Grimm version), children of families of higher standings were expected to pair up with a mate of at least equal or higher social standings. Daughter's in particular were treated like purebred dogs or horses as they were frequently told they had to pick a husband of "Good Breeding", but parent's were not above threatening son's if he fell in love with someone not of thier choosing. It's why you hear so much about eloping or miserable marriages that ended badly in some local history books. To some extent this practice still goes on in some wealthy families.

In Charles Perrault's version of the fairytale, the unnamed younger stepsister is described as being not as rude or spiteful as the elder. And this has been depicted in media many times over the years, from Jacqueline in Ever After (1998), to Anastasia's redemption in Cinderella II. Funny enough, I think Walt Disney based his Cinderella on the Brother's Grimm version, the one with feet mutilations. And that didn't have redeemed stepsisters. I guess by 2002, Disney animators (the direct-to-video department guys specifically) decided to alter course. Too bad they didn't tell the guys at Square Enix, who were making the Kingdom Hearts games. Because they went full Grim - yes, that's a pun.

I think the very first KIND version of The younger stepsister was Every After. The younger daughter tried to be kind to Cinderella (or Danielle, as she was called) but had to do so when the mother and older sister weren't there. It saved her from receiving the same fate as her mother and sister. Indentured servitude, in the castle.

Yes, it's inspired of the original tale (Charles Perrault's version) where the youngest stepsister is described as nicer. Also, in " Ever After " we can really see Jacqueline being neglect by her mother. I don't really think she tried to be bad in this version but was forced to stay neutral because of her mother. This is show before and after Marguerite threw away the book in the fire : we can really see Jacqueline being ashamed of touching Danielle's mother's clothes and later, really sad by what her sister did. Of course, she could help but because of her mother, she couldn't but she make amends by conforting Danielle

I like that at least one of Cinderella's stepfamily decided to turn her life around & felt guilty & regretful of how she treated Cinderella I remember as a kid our principal read us Cinderella & at the end not only did Cinderella get married but so did both of her stepsisters. Notice how Anastasia changed her look in order to win the Baker's heart she looked more relaxed & carefree.

It's interesting how the troupe has been used in other versions, like in Ever After with Drew Barrymore (spoiler alert ahead). Margarite was favored for her beauty, while Jacqueline was looked down on despite her efforts to be good enough in other ways. In the end, it was Jacqueline who had a place in Danielle's new life as a princess because she showed kindness, and helped the prince rescue Danielle after she was sold.

As a person who grew up with a decent amount of Disney Sequels, I sometimes don't understand the hate given to some of them, Examples being little mermaid, Pocahontas 2, LATT 2, some things like that, I loved all three of the Cinderella Movies and I still do to this day. Anastasia is a wonderful girl and when I look back on the movies, I can see exactly what she was going through. She's a good girl, who simply just needed a push in the right direction is all.

I had this movie when I was a kid, I loved Anastasia's story a lot more than the first movie. Cinderella makes it seem so easy to be kind and do the right thing even when you are not feeling at your best, I never could relate to her. But Anastasia feels more human, she has many flaws and is easily manipulated by her family because she thinks her mother knows and wants the best for her. She goes along in her mean actions with the rest and it isn't until after she suffers a little humiliation and pain that she learns why the things she did were wrong and wants to do better. She wants love and wants to be a better person and tries. And her happy ending promises hardships in her rocky relationship with her mother and sister and marrying a baker coming from a noble family. It was so sweet.

It just goes to show that parental upbringing results in the very thing you yourself were raised in and Anastasia saw the light which caused her to give her mother the finger (figuratively speaking) and atone for her wrongful ways; too bad Drusilla and Tremaine didn't do the same thing.
